[Q] Brushing the chrome rim? - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

Hey is it possible to brush the metallic part of the sgs like the iphone?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtLSeVx_q1I
Thanks!

it's possible because as soon as i saw this post, i went out to get myself a rough sponge and electrical tape and just did it.
but careful not to scrub too hard or the "metal" surface might just get scrubbed off completely, exposing the plastic underneath

Can you please share some pictures?

That's hell nice, but yes, cheap Samsung only put Chrome paint on the bezel, it's black plastic underneath.

Damn, so if we brush the chrome we'll get black plastic? Doesnt look good right?

sorry i do not have a camera other than my galaxy s, apologies...
you can brush the chrome, just dont brush too much/deep

Hi,
I don´t wanna ruin mine even more. Is there a store who sells these things?

That guy talks too much...
I wouldn't recommend doing this. A mentioned, our bezel is plastic.

Had a look at different videos on youtube. I prefer the outcome to the cheap shiny look. Maybe I´ll give it a try after all.
Can s.o. confirm that the plastic underneath is black. Cause if all fails, I wouldn´t mind a black bezel.

It's a dull grey/black. Parts of mine are scratched off and yea, it isn't exactly pretty.
Edit: After closer inspection, it may not be half bad; it just won't be shiny. May or may not look better than a cheap, scratched chrome bezel.

The problem is... There ain't a metallic rim in Galaxy S...

I don't know why but i have this feeling its a creamy white bezel instead of black plastic. so be prepared..

Erase AT&T front logo?

Any ideas hoe to remove or erase the att logo in the front.
Maybe put out the gorilla glass? But how to do that ?
It'd be nice. But I have no idea... hopefully somebody else does

The screen protector I got from at&t for my infuse blocked the Samsung name at the bottom but left the at&t at the top exposed. Made me laugh a little.
I'd rather have it vice-versa actually. Lol

Any ideas? On the atrix you can remove it with a penny but im not sure its the same design/material here
its inbetween the glass and the digitizer. sorry, it aint comin off.
Sharpie?... LOL
Electrical tape.
Try squinting reaaaaally hard....

Yea I believe its under the class so its gonna be kinda hard. Perhaps a case that overs it? Maybe a sticker? Besides that I don't see any possible solution. Unless its possible to remove the glass, but that is probably too much hassle for just the logo
When the ottetbox defender case comes out, it won't be visible at all, since it will cover the top portion of the front side

It's not gonna happen... Sorry haha
But on a brighter note, taking something hard or sharp and scraping off the paint on the speaker at the top makes a cool little chrome accent

[Q] Chrome Bezel

I dropped my phone yesterday and scratched the chrome bezel that goes around the from of the phone. Where can I get a replacement part or is there any way to repair it?
your best bet is to just put a cover on it, its not easy to change, this cover is good, it covers the bezel
http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=45703&cat=5483
or get an otterbox which is more expensive

Or the body glove

o man. that would be awesome. im going to search for it now. lol
This sounds like a CRAZY idea, but I build plastic models, so this might actually work.
Maybe you can try masking off everything on your phone except for the bezel then sand it down til all the chrome is gone (low grit to higher grit for a smooth finish). After cleaning all of it up, use any color spray paint you want to repaint the bezel. You might need primer for it, depending on what kind of paint you use. Maybe topcoat it as well to protect the paint. Just make sure you spray in very light coats and it shouldn't run underneath the masking tape.
Obviously, this will take a lot of work, but that's the only thing I can think of if you can't find spare parts.
Also, the person mbernusg mentioned in his post might've done something similar. Just a random guess though.
Hi,
this is the only thing I could find about bezel replacing:

NOTE: HE KILLED THE SCREEN, but I believe it could be done successfully!

[Q] Painting my scratched HTC DS

OHAI,
Well, I have got that phone scratched already somewhere more, somewhere less.
I am interested to paint it originally black, because I see no need spending 30+$ on new case.
Have anybody tried to paint that metal case black? Any tips of colour and lack? I'd go to local paint shop, but at first I am loooking forward of hearing any ideas.
Thank you.
Hey there,
I'd not advise you to paint it. From my understanding the case is coatet like eloxal.. but i don't know what excactly it is.
If you go for paint I'd guess that the paint will wear off quite fast. Another problem with paint is that its not lasting on aluminium (is it alu? at least its not normal steel)..
In the end it might be easier to buy a new case if you get that
hard work but here's an interesting thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293207
I would use anodizing! It is pretty simple process to do in home but need some time. Might be more durable coating than the original and you can use what colour you want
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4TAeCjVEhs&feature=related
I have done that couple times and it's pretty easy thing to do.
I got one tiny tiny dot on mine, which shows the bare casing, by the headphone Jack I got really upset when I saw it I always look after all my devices with great care, and was distraught to see the small cuff.
I tried using a black permanent marker to cover it up. It doesn't work well, as the ink is too dark, making a deep contrast.
It also rubbed off over time, so I thought, just forget about it

Lucky guy..
I dropped mine on hard floor 2 times and have 2 scratches at the corners.. :-(
Sent by my fingers to your head.
If you can get hold of metalic touch up paint you should be ok. We got a metal table for our garden and in the box with the table was a small tube of touch up black paint and it is exactly the same colour as the black desire s. You wouldn't be able to tell on my phone where it has been painted!
Thanks for tips and tricks. Also the anodizing way is very interesting and potential. Only thing I matter is "htc" letters on the backside. Anybody have an idea how to save them?
Hi....my device also has the same problem....does metal maker pens work?...Iam asking it because others are not working...

How to replace I9001 chrome bezel.

It's my first post so I would like to say hi to everyone,
I would like to replace the chrome bezel from my device. It's all scratched and it doesn't look good. I know that some people are just removing the "chrome" paint and sand it but in my case plastic underneath is light gray so it won't look good in my opinion.
I've read that screen is glued to the bezel and it's not so easy to do it that's why it would be great if someone could write step-by-step tutorial how to do it or to share his experience. Is it possible to do it at home without damaging the device?
i am also looking to change the bezel. From what i have found out so far the home button and the touch buttons (menu and back) are attached to the bezel. Also those buttons are glued to the screen and the screen itself glued to the bezel and the housing underneath it. So it should be very difficult and risky to try to change it. Most people in these forums agree that it is impossible to remove the screen without breaking it.
I can't really believe it is impossible to do it, and all who reported on it have tried to replace broken screens so maybe they were not careful enough. On the other hand no one has claimed to successfully removing the screen without damaging it.
Better be safe and hide the ugliness behind a case or something
So i decided to sand the chrome away in mine first to see if can get it look good and thus avoiding the hussle of opening the case
here are some photos of my work so far. Now i need to polish it
It looks really good with your white backplate... but I prefair to keep my phone black
How did you remove the chrome.. Sand it away? i tried scratching it off but it too risky in some places
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
i used a nail file to sand the chrome away. I covered the edges of the screen with some tape to prevent scratches and also had a screen protector on just in case.
Just jam the tape in the gap between the bezel and he screen, you 'll be fine.
Also patience is highly advised
It looks prety good.
where did you get the white backplate from
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-BAT...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3cc4149074
how much to pay?
It look very nice with white bezel.nice work!
my s plus was white to begin with,i didn't change that.
actually the bezel is grey and not white, it doesn't look all that great up close but it's still better than the damaged chrome.
i mean to paint it glossy white to match the backplate as much as possible but i am still looking for the right paint.
i will come back and upload more photos when done
Sent from my GT-I9001
It's very nice
How about paiting the border black after you sand it down? I'm thinking of doing this with some spray paint.

Thank you for this post. It gave me the confidence to try this on my back SGS.
On the corners of the bezel, the paint had chipped off making the phone look ugly. So I used my nails and blunt side of the blade to chip away the paint.
I found out that there are 2 layers of paint on top of the bezel. First is the black glossy paint which actually chips off.. Underneath that is the silver shade. This cannot be chipped off. You have to use your nails to make it go away. But later I figured out aftershave liquid just does fine and easy job. So maybe alcohol or nail polish remover would also work.
Since I used my nails and blunt blade, there are no signs of roughness or scratches on the surface except for 1 or 2 which is barely visible. So thankfully no need of polishing. The device looks much better now.
If you have figured out about the painting the bezel, let us know. Thanks!

[HELP] Opening a WHITE Nexus 5

Dear all,
I can't for the sake of me, remove the back cover of my white N5; I know there is glue at the bottom, but my issue is the middle clips on both sides (at the level of the U of NexUs), they just won't move! I tried gentle / shaky movements, then harder and harder to the point that I damaged the cover by deforming the border;
I use classic blue plastic pry openers and I even broke one! At this point if I try harder I will just tear the cover or break something!
I've seen like 5 videos on youtube and for each the clips on the side aren't any more difficult than the others; however I could only find videos of black N5s, could it be that the white is different?
Can someone share his experience with a white one?
This just drives me crazy, attached is a picture showing the problem and the damage as well

You can order a new battery cover on ebay
Sent from this crappy Nexus 5
My white one came off fine, I used a butter knife. Just be careful with it, and use some force. Also the factory cover has the IMEI on the inside.
I will try harder I guess...
For those unhelpful posts that wonder why I do this, I ordered a spare speaker to try this mod, I would ever have needed to open it if it was not featuring the crappiest phone speaker I ever heard on a mobile or smartphone.
And the back case is just plastic which is quite flexible, the only damage is the border not the fact that it appears bended on the picture, and I don't care much of its aspect when I have a case for it... I am just afraid to break something inside the phone...
Its just a cover, worst case you break the cover. Everything else is pretty much protected behind a cover in there aside from the battery.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Finally got in,
my mistake was to attempt to 'pry open' it, i.e. to put a lifting pressure on the cover;
The two clips in the middle are definitely stiffer, and the way to open it is to actually push really hard directly on the clips with lateral pressure towards the inside of the phone (towards the nexus logo).
The glue is piece of cake
