hey guys.
this is probably a newbie issue, but i can't seem to get any of the tv players to work with my phone.
i've downloaded the trial to HandiTV, Pocket Live TV, and SPB Online. all HandiTV opens a link to media player, and when media player accesses that link, it closes down without giving an error, and obviously without working. SPB online took forever loading the few channels it had and never got to it. Pocket Live TV either said "error" or "access denied" wih some channels, and with a couple actually said "Playing" but nothing was playing on the screen.
i'm testing with the ActiveSync connection. my goal is to get a program that will let me watch over WiFi as I have free WiFi access at the university and plenty of time to myself between classes so i would like to watch tv in that time :-D
please let me know what i'm supposed to do to get one of them to work! Preferably HandiTV as it seems to have the best selection of channels
thank you!
If I am not mistaken, all of those programs require a subscription to the service they offer...so that may be your problem.
nope, all the ones i'm trying are "demo" or "trial", so i should be able to "try" them before purchasing them. i've been able to get Pocket Live TV so work with some channels, but nothing that i'm interested in watching.
oh well, after reading it seems it's never going to be a true tv watching program as i'll be watching whatever they're sending online. when i originally downloaded the programs i was hoping for something like off-the-air tv reception or something
why dont they make a tv tuner that you can plug into the usb port and then do it that way? i'd pay for that!
EDIT: well apparently they make something similar to "it". I can buy a SDIO tv tuner for about $150 from Hong Kong that will work with the wizard. To get the SD card to work though i'd need a SD-to-mini adapter, so about $200 all said and done and i can have a self-powered tv antenna hooked up to the phone...huh...that'll have to wait!
I have a media server setup and was wondering what the best streaming software was to watch my movies and shows on my phone/tab.
Mainly for internal but could be both. I did see Qloud but I am always weary of anything from China (well it appears to be chinese), not to sound racist.
Also my girl has an ipad 2, does anyone know of a software/client that has both an apple and android version.
thanks
Well its now official, Zune is on it's way out and to replace it will come the apps store and Xbox music. Check out the link below.

From what I've seen, it's pretty much the exact same, sure there will be smartglass, but this is just a rebrand.
theres also a web browser coming to xbox (IE10) but I think it requires kinect. Also the whole smart glass thing is similar to apple tv but in a less expensive way if you already have a xbox and a wp device.

(sorry it wont allow me to post the full link cause of the 10post thing..)
I hate the fact that they are killing the Zune brand. I hate even more the name "Xbox Music". I agree that they needed to do something to fully integrate Microsoft's music features (I hope the rebrand Bing Music, also). I think in order to keep the brand alive they should have taken out WMP and continued investing and supporting ZUNE.
So... forgive me if someone has already asked this, but I couldn't find anything. I have some movies I've purchased on iTunes on my laptop. I put them on my 16gb microsd, but they don't play on my surface no matter what. I've also tried several apps. My question is, have any of you found a good app for this, or a program I could run on my laptop to convert these to wmv or mp4? (I'm not ready to drop money on software like that, and wmv is preferable.) Anyone else have the same problem? Thanks in advance!

There is an app called "Format Converter X" that should do the trick.

Yeah, I've already tried that. Says "an unknown error occurred...
Movies you purchase on iTunes are DRM-protected.

Uhhh, yeah, that's why I asked this question. I need to know if there's still a way to play them on my Surface. I've been trying to get around DRM with my legally purchased movies (I have like 15, and am going on a road trip). It would be nice to play them on my Surface instead of lugging around my laptop.
This is why I don't "buy" DRMed media. Legally speaking, what you're asking for is actually against federal law in the USA (the Digital Millennium Copyright Act prohibits the removal of DRM) even though what you're asking for certainly *should* fall within the grounds of Fair Use (legal exemptions to restrictions of copyright law). In any case, there used to be programs that could strip the "FairPlay" DRM from movies. I don't know if any of them still work, though. Once the DRM is stripped, Surface *should* be able to play the actual video/audio codecs without additional third-party software.

Oh ok bummer, but thanks!
There are definitely still apps which claim to be able to do it. I'm skeptical of such software, and would recommend running a thorough virus scan and not running it (or the installer) as Admin if at all possible, but you may as well try them if you don't mind a bit of risk.
That said, please don't support DRM "sellers". You aren't buying anything; legally speaking its more akin to renting, and the DRM is an attempt to enforce that. You can't do any of the things that you normally would be allowed to do with purchased items, such as modify them (for your own use) or re-sell them / gift them / pass them on to your kids (even if you didn't maintain a copy yourself, in keeping with the usual requirements of copyright law).
It was a great day for the music industry when Amazon started selling DRM-free MP3s, and now nearly all online music purchases are DRM free. It's only a matter of time before the same happens with video.

Yeah unfortunately, I've tried pretty much every virus-free software out there, but they all want you to buy them for like $40. Heck no! I'm not giving them my credit card! I don't know how much DEM free will come to movies, seeing as the movies companies regulate that. Oh well. Oh, and btw if there is mac software to do this that anyone knows of, let me know. I could borrow a mac if needed... I don't really have a problem removing DRM since I legally purchased it and am just trying to take it along.

Hi,
i wanted to watch Amazon Instant Videos on my Surface RT. But the browser is telling me it's not compatible. And everyone in the Internet (mostly the Amazon site) says that's not possible because there is no silverligth for the Surface RT.
But than i found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFSKoYp__F0
So maybe someone can tell me how it works to whatch the videos on my Surface. I tryed the browser and the app from IE. But both do not work.
I had also a Problem with a digital Copy video i wanted to watch on the Surface. Microsoft told me it should work and i need to reinstall the video app. But it doesn't help..
So i hope someone here on XDA can help me with this problem after you guys solved a lot of problems for my HTC Desire
According to the comments on that YouTube video some countries uses Flash instead of Silverlight. That's probably how he does it.
You might need to use a US-based proxy or VPN so that Amazon thinks you're in the US. It sounds like it uses Flash (rather than Silverlight) here, so that should work... unless the location info is tied to your AMZ account instead, in which case that could be a problem.
