[Q] Tech Help 4 HTC Touch elf 0100 (old orange network phone)

Any one on this site know owt about Electronics in phones as my touch screen isnt working
The battery has swelled up but ive checked it with multimeter and its giving out 3.6vdc , which is full battery power + - .1vdc.
Screen came on breefly and was just white. Then next night i had a look it came on and showed the Orange start up but never loaded up, once i removed batt. i hasnt come on again
Reason i stopped using it was not because the batt. swelled up, because i only noticed this a couple of months afer getting it back out to try to get it to work, it just packed up one day., but it holds all my work details ,so i need it.
Any tech help that'll get it going, i will explode in my pants, cos i'll be so chuffed

Touch screen completely died. No help from Sears.

So I woke my tab up last night and noticed it would not register any touch input. The capacative buttons worked but no joy on the touch panel. Wiped data/cache/dalvik. Did nothing to fix the problem. Did a full nvflash stock restore. Nothing at all. No touch panel input whatsoever. So I head back to my local Sears (Orlando) today and tried to exchange. Turns out they nor any other Sears in central Florida have any in stock and the soonest they will be in is the 5th day of the new year. So now I am gtabless. I must admit that patience is not a value I possess for anything outside of my son. Can't figure out if I can wait on a new one or if I am too impatient and will spend my $400 elsewhere. *sniff, sniff*

This scares me. I mean, the fact that the touchscreen sensor can just go bad like that. I wouldn't blame you if you did spend the money elsewhere. It's unfortunate there's nothing on the market right now to rival the G Tablet in terms of power and value. If mine ever died I don't think I'd get another. I love it, don't get me wrong. But that's writing on the wall right there. If I could get my money back and get something else, I would.
True story (and off topic-ish): I set up a media center for my uncle and aunt. WD TV Live HD a Seagate Expansion 1TB external USB hard drive. Worked perfectly for 3 months and then was out at about the end of the 3rd month. Returned it and got a replacement (brand new). 6 months later my aunt is telling me their drive is now 'clicking' but still working :/
This isn't the same case exactly, but just an example of why I'm jaded against replacing 'quickly faulting' devices with the same ones.
Good Luck to you.

[Q] Random Shut Downs, Only when plugged in

i have been getting some random shut downs but only when plugged in to a wall charger. at first i figured it was due to heat while being charged. but the phone could shut down while plugged into the wall at any given time no matter how much charge there is or how long it's been plugged. Last night I plugged it in before bed at 30% and today I woke up at 44% with the phone off. Sometimes it's minutes until it shuts down and sometimes it's hours. It's the same on any Rom/Kernel I tried. Thinking it may be a hardware issue. Any ideas? Thanks.
Currently Trigger2X 14 - Faux SV 3.5
Happens to me too... I'm on stock though.
And is it me or does charging the phone off seem to be ineffective?

which makes me believe this is strictly hardware. its not really like the software related reboots of the past. too bad i can't get it to go while plugged into pc, otherwise i could check logs to see what was up. let me know if you can recreate like clockwork. thx
Its hardware trust me. I've had in total like 6 g2xs and this is the first I've had with the issue.. I also have another now.. Both have the same rom, baseband, kernel and apps. Yet my new one shuts down on the charger.... Its hardware for sure and a replacement is in route. No point trouble shooting its a bad phone.. Threes many good ones just be patient... Now to wait for replacement...
If your on your 6th G2x, did you have to pay the 20 dollar exchange fee or whatever it's called? It would get pretty expensive after your 3rd or so G2x.

no. Bought first one full price it had no issues but dust, return no fee, then I exchanged again from pixel, no fee. Thats 3. Then I sold it for a sensation. Had bad luck with the sensation so I sold traded it on CL for a G2x and cash. Well that g2x was awesome too. so thats 4. I then dropped that ***** hard and had to exchange for another no fee again because I paid 130 through asurion. Thats 5. that g2x is awesome too. Now on a new line of service I got a free g2x with a online deal, so theres 6. Thats the one Im on now and it sucks donkey doooo.
but ive had enough to know there are good ones with no issues. I knew this one was gonna have issues cause of the ratio of no issues vs hearing issues here. LoL time to hunt for the good one again. LOL then after this I got to get the other g2x replaced again cause it was dropped again, and I cant have that. So Asurion that will be.....
Wow. Asurion must love you! LOL!
Last time I gave T-Mobile support a call, they wanted 20 bucks.
But that's a lot of G2x's my friend. And how much cash did you add on top to get the Sensation?

trust me. I get mine back from asurion. they dont get a phone back
Oh and only 270 for sensation used upgrade.
This sounds like a defective battery. If your phone was plugged in at 30%, then you slept all night and woke up to a 44% charge with the phone powered down, that means that the battery was not taking any incoming charge for the vast majority of the night, nor does it seem that the battery was powering the phone for the majority of the night. Charging from 30->100% should only take 2.5 hours or so - maybe 3.
It could be that when you plug it in, it heats up - and thus expands. This could cause a loose connection to the battery somewhere (maybe something as simple as the physical contacts for the battery, or could be something more intricate inside the phone).
As much as you don't want to hear it, i'd say you'll probably need to take it to a store or send it in for replacement.

Thats my thought. It's still plugged in but does not charge. Forgot to mention that it requires a battery pull to restart. So possibly the phone is not really off, just in a non responsive idle state. Im going back to stock for now to see if that changes anything. I know they will ask if I got the update so I might as well. Thanks for the info.

Half the time its off, and half in a non responsive idle state. Cause sometimes you can turn the phone on, and sometimes you need a battery pull and the ***** is hhhhhhoooottt.
I doubt theres a loose connection when it expands as the copper connections in the corner are pretty lines up and expanding would only make em touch more you would think.

[Q] Did I actually manage to kill my phone, or is there still hope?

The issues started about 4 weeks ago when I fell in a lake with my MyTouch 4g in my pocket. The issue was that I hadn't realized that it had gotten drenched until about an hour later as I was trying to chase my daughters runaway puppy through the neighborhood at the time and she wouldn't stop for anything.
Needless to say, by the time I got home and realized what happened, my phone wouldn't unlock and the camera flash on the LED was in a permanent on state. I immediately pulled the battery, SIM card and SD card and put the phone and battery in a bag of rice (a trick I had read about here). I waited for a week and attempted to power the phone back on, but again the flash led came on and the phone did nothing.
Thinking it a lost cause I switched back to my oldest phone (an old Motorola Cliq XT) and rooted it so I at least had CM 7.2 on it, though it is so slow that I am yearning for my MyTouch back again so I can actually do things like use Reddit and surf the net on my phone again (I was without my actual computer for months at one point so I got in the habit of using my phone for about 90% of my surfing and whatnot).
The other day, however, I had a bright idea while bored at work. When I got home I attempted to turn my MyTouch back on, and to my surprise, it came to life! I quickly switched out the SIM and SD cards and flashed CM 7 onto it and tried to boot it up. To my joy it seemed to work, at first, however as soon as it went to sleep, the screen would not turn back on. It lights up, but there is no image, the touch screen works and the OS seems to be working since I can feel the tactile feedback when I unlock the phone. I was hoping that someone could tell me if I had actually killed my phone dead enough that it is beyond hope or not? If I have actually killed it I was wondering if anyone had advice for me on where I could pick up a replacement for cheap?
I already tried asking /r/android the other night and the only suggestion they had was to make the dog pay for a new phone. Amusing as that may be, she doesn't currently hold a job and thus has no way to compensate me for the damage.
Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks!
If you stalk Ebay you might find one with a cracked screen that still functions for cheap or something like that ,that will allow you to use a part from your phone to make it whole.. providing you know how to replace the screen or basic repairs, that is what i have done 4 times over the past 2 years..
Good Luck!!If you look long enough and bid right you can get one for a fair price ,I bought my last one for 20 dollars and replaced the screen after dropping it in my foyer and worked like a charm you just need to be careful opening it.I hope this helps as far as providing a potential solution to ur problem.again Good Luck!!
Sorry, you probably did. Phones can barely take a couple minutes of water, yours took a swim. Usually the rice is the only way to get it dry, if that didn't work....
Your screen could be damaged though. Your best bet would be to order a good phone at a pretty reasonable price off contract on sites like ebay or swappa, or if you're eligible for an upgrade, go for it.
Motorola Cliq XT? That was my first smart phone, can't say I miss it much lol. Of money is super tight I say get an optimus T and sell that pos. The optimus actually ran cm7 pottery l pretty well for having a 600 mghtz processor

shot in the dark- no power

hiya all!
the wifes m8 recently took a ****, found a n5 from a friend who went apple.. said battery needed replaced, for $25 why the hell not, spent $10 on a battery that came in today.
battery replaced.. still nothing, when i plug it in to charge, i dont even get a charging light (old battery wouldnt get warm when left on the charger, waiting to see if this dose the same thing) , wont boot, any help fellas? screen isnt broken, its in pretty good shape. thought itd be cool for both of us to have a nexus, with me having the n6.
any help would be fantastic!
thanks fellow nexus users!
could it be the charge port? i wouldnt mind using just a wireless charger, but i dont have one to test this theory currently, the moto 360 charger isnt strong enough to test it.
