I just wanted to know if anybody has tried using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse setup. I am interested cause i think this phone would be amazing to use as a 'pc' just like the evo especially since we can hdmi mirror natively and i have verified that using droid overclock to change lcd density works.
I am absolutely DYING to know if this works. My entire life is on my phone and it would be so wonderful to connect a keyboard and mouse and put the hdmi out to my tv. cmon, this has to work. how can the evo do this and i can find nothing, absolutely nothing anywhere on doing this with the g2x?
find it very hard to believe that with all the people on this forum we cant get an answer for this very simple question. Someone please assist.
i have a bt mouse at home. i'll check this evening..but somehow i doubt it... the keyboard SHOULD work tho.. but I don't have one.
I think it's likely that you will need an additional driver to use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Search in the market for "bluetooth keyboard driver."
I know Teksoft has an HID driver for Android that is supposed to allow keyboard/mouse input. Its called BlueInput....here...
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=blueinputandroid
I don't know if/how well it works on our device. I only know it exists. If someone wants to try it and report back I would be interested in knowing too. This could save me from hauling my laptop to work every night.
Hope this helps...
I was in bestbuy and tried the motorola BT keyboard that they market for their android tablets. I kept getting an error on my device while pairing. said, "problem with pairing. please make sure the password on device is ******"
the *'s are always random numbers. I would really like to get this to work. gahhhh
Passwords are usually 0000 or 1234 for most devices, but if not you're screwed and need documentation. I'm going to be ordering a bt keyboard/mouse for my atrix cuz I hacked the webtop on it so I don't need the dock, hopefully input devices work without....
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Oh wait, I realized what you're talking about, bt 2.0 uses different password methods.... Back from spacing out, you should be able to click yes that they do match and likely out will attempt to connect.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
welllll. there is no option to say yest they match. the password changes everytime i try to pair. So yeah, still no definitive answer on whether or not the G2X supports bluetooth hid. how is this so FFFKKKKNNNN hard to find?!
Bump. any help please?
Is this something i need cm7 for? do i get mouse pointer like the evo had in cm6? im so confused please help
There definitely have to be more of us that want to see this become an easy task. im sure many would benefit from this. I know i would love to be able to take all my work notes on my phone without using my thumbs for pages and pages of notes. any ideas folks?
I think the stock rom doesn't support it. I couldn't get my wiimote to pair until CM.
Probably the same deal. I'm sure CM has support for those profiles.
Thanks so much for the input. I've been trying to get the wiimote to work too? Any feedback? Using nexus aosp by faux.

Ok.
I followed the discussion over wiimotes and how the bluetooth stack used by Samsung prevents the use of bluetooth keyboards w/the Epic 4g, but I can't, in all my googling, find an answer to this question: is the icontrolpad compatible with the Epic 4g?
It looks like Bluez IME provides options that may get around Samsung's bluetooth stack or that the icontrolpad connects in a way that functions differently that bluetooth keyboards, but I'm honestly clueless. The icontrolpad website, by the way, makes it sound like any phone ever made is compatible. Anyone have an answer?
Sorry for the double post/self-bump.
I bought one anyway, so i guess i'll report back if it makes any difference to anyone. Either way, it's a good investment for my pc, transformer, and any phone i get after i'm done with the epic. Thanks for your time.

Well, did it work ok for you. I have been curious to know after seeing you had no responses from anyone.
One of my lecture classes doesn't pick up my school's WiFi. I'm wondering if anyone got this to work before with a Xoom. Is there a ROM out with support for this. There are plenty Ethernet ports in the lecture hall that I could use.
Thanks in advance.
People on the Motorola forums have reported having success with this

I think this is the discussion where they discuss this. I have used the Linksys USB200M with success.

Awesome. I love this tablet more and more each day. I sold my iPad and do not regret it one bit.
Another question: Say I get this to work there will be a lot of iPad users in my class that will get jealous. Is there a way to then create a hotspot with the Xoom for them to connect?
Why not just put a wifi router in and lock it down? That way all the teachers could use the net.

What?
I just want a select few to hook up to my Xoom.

Well I pulled out my Linksys USB200M USB-Ethernet adapter and plugged it into my Xoom with an OTG cable and to surf the web on my Xoom it worked flawlessly. I did not have to do anything to make it work except plug it in. Now there are no areas to configure the connection, so if you need a proxy or anything beyond DHCP it will be more complicated.
I then tried using the Xoom as a WiFi hotspot and this did not work. I will dig into it a little bit and see. Now I am running the latest Tiamat rom so not sure if the Tethering & portable hotspot settings are present on a stock WiFi only Xoom
I'm on Moray. I will look at the settings. If you test it let me know. It'll be awesome

Have you had any trouble with the door on it breaking off? This seems to be a major complaint for this unit, but everyone says it's really easy to use.

Well the Linksys dongle works just fine. It takes a little bit for the connection to work so be patient and also the Xoom does not give any "indication" that there is a conneciton. Under the quick-menu it will still show "No Internet Connection", but if you go to surf the web or check email it works just fine.
Right now it does not appear the hotspot application sees this connection so using the Xoom as a wifi-router does not seem to work. Maybe ICS will bring this functionality
I have to buy an adapter today. I can't wait to try this out on Thursday.

Apparently the new out-of-the-box 4G XOOM (Honeycomb 3.2.2) does not automagically configure the Ethernet dongle. However, if you use a terminal app and su, the following could work on a rooted device (it does on mine, using TrendNet TU2-ET100 adapter with an ASIX chipset):
#
# ifconfig eth0 up
# dhcpcd
# setprop net.dns1 4.2.2.1
# setprop net.dns2 8.8.8.8
#
You can test by doing a ping to your favorite pingsite. Gmail works, but K-9 Mail doesn't know there's an internet connection and won't sync. I did turn on airplane mode so as to disable WiFi and 4G and not confuse the network settings. There may be other caveats. Tweaks appreciated.
Remember, if you break it, you own all of the pieces.
Ethernet on the Xoom
I've tried 3X devices, including Apple's A1277, Belkin's xxxxxx, and Niko ethernet adapters. Using the above method ^^^ and I have to say, it works Flawlessly!!!! whooop whooop ... now all I need is the instructions on how to get a T.V dongle to work with the xoom.
Hey any one on here use torque? For somereason my obd2 blue tooth adapter wont
hook with torque; connects then disconnects....over and over cant get a solid connection. I have done all of the proper blue tooth updates for this phone.
ANy one using this app or have a similar issue?
Thanks
There is an issue with pandora in case you have that installed. Also, to get it to work you only have to pair it through the bluetooth settings on the phone, not get it to connect. When you run torque, be sure to select the device in the app settings. I use the BAFX branded adapter from amazon and it pairs as "CBT".
I have torque and pandora on my amaze and it connects to my obd-II adapter flawlessly. Like the above post says , connects the adapter to the obd port on your car,
Then go to the Bluetooth setting on you phone
Search for Bluetooth devices
You should find a Bluetooth device that contains some numbers and dots (This is the obd adapter)
Click on the device and pair it...If it asks for a code use 0000, 0 or 1234
Once you have paired it, Open the torque app and it should automatically connect within 30 secs...
Thanks, ill try it, was just odd because on my dx I have no issues with it

Also check with the ELM version.
There is 1.3, 1.4a and also 1.5(it is not officially listed, so it is probably 1.4).
1.3 has connection drop problems.
Hey thanks ^
It still is borked and this is one thing I haven't checked
Will report back.
Dev tells me its am htc issue, but ill check the elm

If your adapter is couple of years old you have probably V1.3.
If you are going to buy a new one check this web site: http://www.elmelectronics.com/obdic.html
It seems there is only 1.3a and 1.4b ELM327 chips.
ELM323 is the new one(V2.0) but I couldn't find one with bluetooth.
Choosing an adapter shouldn't be that difficult

BUMP!
I'd rather not start a new thread and this seems to be general enough -
I'm using Torque (highly recommended for any DIY car people out there, even my gf has a BT adapter in her car at all times in case of random events)
My Question:
Since AdHoc network creation is such a faff (Currently using a T999 SIII, stock, nonroot 4.04, debating what to do w/it yet)
has anyone confirmed the use of a plx / generic WiFi based adapter with the Torque app? since the baud rate of WiFi is higher than BT transmission, I'd rather use the WiFi connection if at all possible...
anyone?
Thanks in advance!!
No one?
I'm still in the search of an appropriate adhoc mod for the S3 I'm currently using to be able to run the wifi obd reader with torque - i've seen the TUT thread on modifying the wpa supplicant file but not convinced it was working on 4.04 S3's as of yet... (unless anyone can confirm that - will check in the S3 forum too)
This thread will be the bounty thread for the willing developer to MOD the app for the new Pioneer Appradio 2
To collect the bounty discussed in this thread the Developer must modify the Appradio Android Application or create a new application to allow Full touch control of the Display Mirroring. Currently the Appradio 2 accepts HDMI input via mini-hdmi or MHL.

I recently picked up an Appradio 2 from Pioneer. The premise is good but the excecution is poor IMO.
The app seems overly complicated and quite frankly pisses me off the more i use it.
Now what i would like to know is if the app can be modified to just offer control of the MHL mirror. That would be ideal for me. At points within the app it allows you to control the screen via the touch screen on the appradio 2. Then at certain places it doesn't allow any touch or only touch portions of the screen.
I have very minimal knowledge of programming for android so i cannot tackle it myself. Im also willing to start a bounty for this as well if someone shows some interest.
Here is the apk: Link
Anyone up for the task?
I just got one of these earlier today. I was very excited at the "Android" support. I haven't installed it yet (buying a washer and dryer takes forever!), but I hope to do it tomorrow.
Did you do your install or did you have somebody do it for you?
Also, have you messed with navigation through phone at all? What cables does it need? I know it needs an MHL for my SGS2, but where can I find the cable that plugs into the back of the unit?
Its a simple straight forward install. The cable in the back is a full size HDMI that comes out of the mhl adapter.

Gotcha. I need to pick one up for my sgs2.
Where did you put your nav antenna and your microphone?

So I was really excited about getting this, but it sounds like everyone that's gotten it has been disappointed. I'm interested in whether anyone really likes it.
Mine ended up being broken (non-working bluetooth).
Returned it and got a dnx7180 with nav and good ****.

As was i and to be honest i am sort of disappointed. However, the potential is there for this unit. I believe with the right modes to the app and/or unit it will be GREAT!
The system is similar as the MIMICS system. It mirrors the display of the phone via MHL and uses bluetooth to communicate screen touches. If the app can be modded so that it allows you to navigate to more than just the appradio app then it would be perfect.
Someone that knows what they are doing should be able to mod the app accordingly and unlock the true potential of this device.
I'm sure they will hear the complaints and make Appradio 3 or 4 better. I will definitely give it another try then. The lack of compatible android apps is disappointing.

The 'appradio2' from pioneer is just starting and is getting more and more android fans every day.
Altho this is a device with great potential, the user experience is indeed a little dissapointing.
Where should I begin?
Well, first the SPH-DA100 officially only supports android 3.2 and not even all phones running it too (a list of compatible devices is @ the Pioneer website)
I successfully connected my Galaxy Nexus i9250 (running ICS 4.0.4 since this weekend) and it works!
The perfect picture for this device should be when you can control your whole phone from the screen of the appradio. For now, only approved apps can be controlled.
I follow MKVFTW when he says that someone who knows what he's doing should rewrite the apk. but for now we can only wait for Pioneer to make another version.
I do not doubt that Pioneer will wait for an appradio 3 or 4 to make things better
The current hardware can handle it.
Or does everyone here buys a new phone when the next android version comes out???
I managed to get a custom background wallpaper on the device, that is a start isn't it?
*link not allowed yet --> search youtube for appradiomodder
Let's keep going where our apps take us !!
Cheers!
I already got rid of mine. It barely worked, such a waste.

Sorry to hear yours broke;
Mine works pretty good tbh. It rarely crashes and when it does, it only takes 20 secs. and the app restarts itself.
Bluetooth never worked from the second I opened the box. I'm using a compatible phone as well.

I'm currently looking in to the apk.
Seems like there a lot of things there wich aren't even active for the moment.
So I think a version 1.0.3 is coming soon
According to Pioneer the app manufacurers shoud update their apps to be compatible with the sph-DA100. I don't understand this.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to connect a bluetooth mouse + keyboard to your android phone? (I did this ages ago allready on my Pocket-pc)
A touchscreen (even multitouch) works by the same principals no?
I think Pioneer's it-devision is taking things to far at once and they should re-think the whole app. I'm not that experienced with coding (I'm a modder, not a creator), but from Android 3.2 and up (when the device supports mhl or hdmi out) the procedure call for android.permission.BLUETOOTH and android.permission.EXTSCREEN is the same for all devices right?
Hawt tip for any Pioneer engineer happening to stumble on this thread::
Take any android 3.2+ device with HDMI/MHL out
Connect this to a tv using HDMI/MHL to HDMI cable
Take any bluetooth mouse and connect it to your phone (might need a FREE driver app on older phones)
Take any bluetooth keyboard and connect it to your phone (might need a FREE driver app on older phones)
Enjoy manipulating ALL APPS + PHONE GUI on your tv
Cheers!
They currently have something interesting going on in the apple camp with Appradio Extensions 2.0
Appradiomodder, you are correct with the bluetooth. Most if not all android devices now adays support bluetooth devices.
The apk does what it should do when it comes to sending touch commands through the receiver screen to the phone via bluetooth. The problem is that the apk restricts it to certain locations.
That looks promising
But I noticed its for the appradio 1 not 2.
Respect for the guy's work tho! That requires a bit more skills than modding..
I'm not quite sure yet if its the appradioapp that does the restrictions. It could also be an extension is needed from the 'approved app'
I'm gonna check the apk's Carmediaplayer and Carkeyboard this weekend.
I feel it could be both. When you are at the appradio home screen and try to pull down the notification bar it wont do anything, yet in the app on the phone you can pull down no problem.
I found out a couple of things:
It is not possible to make the phone GUI work with the appradio for now. for that to work, a new AppradioApp should be written.
The approved apps contain extra code(smali) wich tunnel the received info (Location info, Parkinginfo, touchlayer info, ...) from the radio and translate that to the app itself.
The approved apps contain extra permissions to communicate with the appradio/-app
If any experienced programmer would want to have a look at this, I'd be happy to share what I found out allready.
- Background picture can be customized (only in app mode)
- ANY app can appear in the approved apps list on the radio and they CAN be started by pressing the radio's screen
The search goes on...
