Design mistake contacts?? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I was trying out somethings and noticed the following:
When I sync all my contact into live account, the phonenumbers get attached to emailadresses. (is pretty nice all info on one contactview)
But when 1 of my contacts decided to update his profile and puts in the phoneinfo: ASK ME IF YOU WANT(or 06000000) .. Then my phone gets updated with that info and I lose the phone number from that person! Even when he did not had his number on his profile at all!! and I manually attached it...

Put is on microsoft social.answers but no response yet...
The best solution should be a notification that the user changed his details and if I accept those changes.. or something like that.

So it's like the integration with Facebook is too tight?

Shouldnt need to, I have changed phones several times (DVP)each time doing a hard reset and my contact pictures always come back. I dont see where they are stored to save them but you shouldnt have to reassign them once you sync with Windows Live.
Okay that's a pretty good news.
But it's really weird. i don't even see on my contact list in live.com
Thanks for your answer.

I dont see them on Live.com either. And you may find if a contact has already set a picture on their live profile it may override your custom picture, dont know for sure though as I have not done that yet. But just FYI.

[Q] Changing main phone account through the registry?

So.. I used my windows live account for my phone... and for some reason it detected it as if I lived in the USA... So now I can't add my bank card to my account and I can't buy applications.
I created a new account to set my country to Mexico (I already did this in zune.net). The problem now is that I would like to change the main account from my phone so I can buy applications without having to reset my phone.
I have an LG Quantum, so I can access the registry editor using the MFG app.
Anyone knows how to do this?

Thanks a lot man! =)
What is the difference between the email and the user?
Do you know if it is possible to change to use a messenger account for messaging that is different from the main account?
lol ... after actually trying this out... it didn't work and it screwed my accounts xD
it is good I remembered the original value for those fields so maybe I can fix it =)
The fields seem to have an id instead of the email of the account... maybe this would work if I could get the id from my other account :O
Hey, tenhotshot, first, when you do copy/paste, you must provide link to the original post, i.e. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335240
Second, when you trying to answer on question what you have no idea what is the question for, please do not answer. I already told in my post - it's about changing email assigned to the primary Live acount, not a whole account...

Check my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335240 , I just added some important info (and of course tested on my handset - I'm able to use Marketplace, Games and Hotmail with new id!
P.S. Probably we need to add this hack to FAQ...

Awesome! I'm guessing I have to add the new account to the accounts list first?
And also... Do I have to do those 3 changes, or just the last one?
So.... it didn't work for me... again xD
Now I can't config contacts nor accounts... and I can't access my email...
It really sucks how microsoft restricts your account to only one country... u__u
I'll probably get a cheap used phone to try this kind of things first hehehe =P
Hmm, it's really strange, because I just did it and everything works fine. What phone do you have and how do you change the registry (registry editor, provisioning)?
Also, as I mentioned before, I changed the LiveID user name i.e. email account name, not a whole account (may be it's a reason?). Sorry, I don't know the difference and how it affects on WP7 settings.
First, I've changed email at the first two registry entries and was able to get new email (my old email associated with Live account, was blocked by damn stupid Verizon - after 10 years - still can't believe). Yesterday I found what Marketplace and game hub stop working, and asking for password with old email (LiveID?). So, I found the third entry and now all Live-services working fine, including Zune. It's 100% true.

I actually wanted to be able to change my main account because for some reason the account I normally use for messenger is identified as being from the USA, so I can't use it to buy. So I created another account and set it to Mexico (my country) , so now I can buy apps from the market place...
The problem is now I have to re add all my friends to my new messenger account... x___x
So if I could change accounts, I could switch my account whenever I needed to buy something and then change it back to be able to send messages.
=)
For now I think I'll just start adding my contacts to the new account.

A virus on my phone????

Hi Guys,
I have recently installed the 12070 F/W on my Lumia 800 phone and last night an email was sent out to all 500 contacts that I have for no reason. There was an email attachment in the form of a web address which, when opened, brought you to a page in a magazine called Business Journal.
I am really worried this morning. I need to email all of my contacts wo warn them of this. But what do I do with the phone, do I have a virus on it? If os, how di it get tehre and what do I need to do to remove it??
Guidance right now much appreciated.
First of all, this topic does not belong to the Windows Mobile section. The second thing is that there are no viruses for lumias. Check all the apps you installed and on marketplace check if they can access your contacts information (Bottom of every app description page)

no, actually impossible..
There are two possibilities:
- an app that access your contacts sent them to their server and the owner sent bunch of emails
- your password has been hacked
It's very unlikely that the emails came from your phone. Email gets hacked all the time through weak passwords or cross site scripting exploits. Reset your email password and security questions and update any web browsers you use.
Ask one or more of your recipients if their emails at the bottom says "Sent from My Windows Phone" - unless you've edited it, your signature must have gone along with your email if it went from your inbox. However if it's some app or a password hack, they won't see that signature.
This will also be a good way to see if the emails went from your phone or from a desktop PC.

Good call on that one. The signature is a great way to find out.
Your contacts in your email was hi-jacked; change your password as soon as possible.

[Q] Merging local profile on ICS?

Hi all,
I am wondering about this:
There is a local profile in the contacts list on my ICS, it is my information about myself. Can't I just be able to merge with my gmail information, which is already in the contacts list?
Thanks
Heeter
damn wish someone had replied to this, just realised that the 'local profile' doesn't connect with the google profile that you sign in with when you first start your phone (first initial boot i mean) which is kinda useless because i have my contact info in another contact, so is there anyway to merge the 2 for future use (i have started to use roms on my nexus s now so would be handy to know).

Google Knows Best

While I'm a huge fan of Google products and services, there attitude of ignoring the masses when it comes to certain features that everyone wants/needs in the name of 'it's better' the way we designed it gets frustrating.
I'm hoping someone here knows a solution to this:
My contacts [not even the same name] keep getting merged/linked together automatically. It's happened on every Android device I've owned, and it's always happened to completely different names. I keep my contacts meticulously organized, and would never have a duplicate that would even need to be linked together. I've sent emails to Google asking how to disable it, etc. and they tell me it's a feature that everyone likes basically.
The most recent linking disaster was it linked my current girlfriend 'Lisa' with my ex-girlfriend 'Elizabeth' with TOTALLY DIFFERENT last names...WTF? So when I hit the dial button on the contact clearly labelled 'Lisa', and with her picture...I was actually calling my EX! Needless to say this led to a long argument that there was no way I could accidentally call me ex when trying to call my girlfriend, and blaming it on Google is ridiculous.
It's done this with a contact 'David', my then boss...and a contact labelled Dad...so when I tried calling work at 2AM (when I start) I actually woke up my dad in the middle of the night. There is no way of knowing when this happens unless I manually check every contact to see if there has been any merging or memorize everyone's phone number so I can see if it's really dialing the right number. It even linked my friend Charles, with Les Schwab Tire store once before.
Anyway, everything I've searched on the subject says that there should be some sort of notification asking me if I want to link/merge contacts, and to make sure to select 'NO'. I've never been notified though, and just get surprised at least once a month when my phone calls someone else, when I select a contact to dial.
Whoever knows the answer will save my life!
Thanks

I've never noticed this...what version of Android are you on and what phone do you have?
In haven't seem it either...are you talking about the "merge duplicate" feature? Did you happen to leave the first or last name blank?

It's happened on my Atrix running GB, also on my Note running ICS. It's happened to 3 other people's phone I know.
I think you might be on to something...it does seem to happen most often to names where I have no last name entered. It merged 'Lisa' with no last name to "Elizabeth" with a last name. It has merged 'Dad' with quite a few different names beginning with D.
They are not merged/linked when viewing contacts on the web in gmail...they are still separate there. It just merges them on the phone only. The most recent one I can't figure out the algorithm behind thinking these were duplicates and merging them automatically was: [Lowe's] and my friend [Lana], Hit her picture from my favorites menu, and got the Lowe's Home Improvement store. Her picture was displayed on the dialing screen and everything. Had to go into contacts, choose 'un-link', and sure enough it had automatically merged to two contacts after sitting separately for years.
This isn't Google. This behaviour is of the stock contacts applications by Motorola and Samsung. Each one modifies the Google contacts app in their own way, especially with regard to linking of contacts and social networking. You'll be better off asking in your device forum to see if others are facing this issue, and contacting Motorola or Samsung about it. It doesn't happen on AOSP Android ROMs, and on pure Android devices like the Nexus line.

This is definitely the best advice. I had this problem when I got the original Evo which was running Sense. Your phone might be trying to link similar contacts as well as facebook contacts if you've logged into the facebook app and let it sync contacts. I recommend going directly to your Google Contacts and doing a bit of organizing and cleaning. Once you have that cleaned up it will hopefully not mis-link your contacts again, even when you log into facebook or something like that.

Right. I did that when I first got my phone. I named all my contacts properly (First name, Last name) so the Sense Facebook sync linked my Facebook contacts correctly. If you want to keep nicknames rather than formal names, then adding all your contacts' email addresses from Facebook will also link them correctly regardless of name. Even if your email addresses and contact names don't match with Facebook, you have an option of manually going through all your contacts and linking them (in HTC Sense). You'll only need to do that once as Sense stores an '< HTCdata >' tag in the 'Notes' field of each contact indicating which Facebook contact it is linked to, so any future sync will immediately link the contacts based on this tag. The best Facebook sync app for AOSP ROMs, HaxSync, also makes use of these tags.
Organizing your Google contacts just once in your life goes a long way.
