Predictive dialing for android - Android Apps and Games

Guys, is there a program that gives me predictive dialing for the android? I have Froyo.
I found Dial one or something like that and it works fine, BUT, there is a formatting problem and it puts the persons name on TOP of the date last called and all that and it makes it harder to read, AND looks ****ty!
I'm also using a program that makes my fonts bigger which might be interfering but normally, it doesn't.
THanks

Tried TakePhone yet? 30 day trial if you get it from his website, shsh.com, then buy it from him direct or from the market.

Thanks
I don't see anything about predictive dialing but I can give it a try.
If I get it from his site, how do I install it on the nexus?
Thanks
George

You could also try TouchPal dialer free from the Market. It's got predictive dialing and is a bit more speedy than DialerOne.

I remember I loved this on my T-Mobile Wing. I could type in 323 and dad would come up.
Nowadays, I just use the search button in the dialer to find the contact in question. Just type their name out haha.

It's bull****! You'd think that on a 700 dollar phone, this would be standard
THanks by the way, I'll try the latest suggestion.

Ok, that was greek to me, Download to the SD card?

Whew, that saved me from being a jerk! Just kidding....
Just go to his website on your phone and hit the download button. Chrome to Phone is a browser extension available in Chrome, Firefox, maybe other browsers, which lets you send a URL directly to the phone to download.

Hey, unlike all the other idiots, at least I'm aware of it. Makes me smarter then doesn't it?
I will give it a shot and I will most certainly screw it up so I'll be back soon

my droid incredible does this out of the box...

Well, I think that's common sense and the sad thing is, some HTC phones have it and some don't. Makes no damn sense at all.
I had it on an HTC three years ago
What about the option of having LARGE fonts? Large enough for ol' farts like me?
NOthing. Gotta pimp my $hit to get apps on there to do it. Damn embarrassment to techs all over the world. They make a phone that can make coffee but they can't even figure out the simplest of things like hey, use the WHOLE screen for stuff, hey, have an option for large fonts, large icons, less space between icons and options for a large clock..
I think they're all idiots and that's my final answer!

Meanwhile I'll try youlu address book.

Yep, very nice and very peppy little app. However, I managed to change the layout in the favorites to thumbnails and I don't know how to get it back to LIST mode.
Any advice?

That's because you've spelled it wrong. It's TOUCHPAL, not touchpad. It's free in the market, works great in English and Chinese, and is a lot speedier than DialerOne, but has all the same features.

Youlu is faster than DialerOne but there are 3 things I'm missing here:
1. There is no * on the dial pad. I didn't find an option to call to phone number *1234.
2. With DialerOne I have shortcut to the call log screen and it appears with dial pad. I can start searching (T9 style) right away. In Youlu there are different tabs/screens for dial pad, calls log, contacts and favorites. If I use shortcut to calls log I have to do extra click for dial pad
3. In DialerOne there are few places you can press on a single line on calls log screen: 1. direct call, 2. calls log of specific contact, 3. mini-menu to dial, sms, face, mail to the contact or open contact details. It's less options in Youlu: direct call to the number or calls log of the specific contact (like if you got 3 calls from him and return one back)
I'm still wondering what best for me.

Speech-to-Text- Voice Recognition

Is there any ppc software out there that can do this?
I would love to use this for texting and emails?
plenty

There are services as well
Jott was the best known, but is now a pay service. You can get the voice to email/text message functionality from Dial2Do. I use it often when driving.

Thanks for the links...I'm also looking for SPEECH to text (not the reverse) solutions for WM...specifically like vlingo for Blackberry. Doesn't seem to be anything that competes with vlingo...anyone know of one?
Well I could not find one
so have put my email here http://www.vlingo.com/vlingo/vv_unsupported.jsp

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that this Speech to Text conversion doesn't take place on the device, but rather the voice data is sent to a web server that decodes it and send back the text?
Is this true?

Yes. All the options till this date use a server for it as the database would be too big to be housed inside a smartphone.

I this not the company that make the software you posted a video of http://www.nuance.com/nvc/ guess you could send them an email and get a trial.
Also the last post links to a cab that seems to do what but it is a 3 day trial
Sully
Vlingo
I too used Vlingo with my Blackberry during the painful months that I had to use the Curve. It is the only thing that I miss about that device, and I too have been looking for this software. Vlingo was very smooth, and it processed everything on the device itself. Telus offers a Voice Command service, but even their proprietary version takes much longer to convert than Vlingo did.

SMS in Diamond2

Do you see graphic smileys in your Diamond2 SMS tab? I only see textual smileys, and HTC support said the only solution is to install a 3rd party program.
If none of you can see graphic smileys, what are you using to see them?
This post is not related with graphic smiles but as it is related with sms i will post it here and avoid several threads.
It happens frequently that when I switch on the display I receive de alert sound of a new sms. The sms was received before, sometimes a long time before but the alert sound only sounds when the display is switched on.
Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks

You mean the "flip album" interface in the "people" tab? Post a link to what you're referring to.
If that is what you mean, then just tap on the + button and add a favorite contact. This is a place you can store favorite contacts, ones that already exist in your contact list. Once you tap the + button, you can select a picture, etc.

Text Messenger - The Text Message Away Message

Hey all, I'm new here but was looking for an outlet to announce applications. I have just finished up my first Android App and was hoping for some reviews/comments/suggestions. Criticism Encouraged!
Text Messenger is a simple away message application for your Android phone. There is a full version for $1, and a DEMO version (where you cannot change the default away message) for FREE.
Give it a try, then give it a Buy!
EDIT: updated barcodes to go directly to Android Market, rather than through AndroidZoom.
Just checking in to see if anyone had a chance to review my app, and had any comments/suggestions/criticism?
To make it easier to find I will post some barcodes (DEMO and Full Version) for the apps.
Thanks.

That's alright, I know this isn't for everyone. With the current state of texting, especially with the younger crowd, I have seen many instances where people say "What the [email protected]#$ why aren't they texting me back!!!"...I guess this is more for those types.
Also, I find myself in situations where I really should not be reading/responding to text messages but I end up giving in knowing there is a message. With Text Messenger you can set your Away Message and automatically put your phone on silent at the same time. So when I am driving, in class, or anywhere else where I shouldn't be answering a text I do not feel the urge.
Pretty cool - few suggestions
Hey, just checked out the demo version of the app. I'm a brand new Android user. Coming from windows mobile I needed an app like this. Just a few thoughts as to what would make this an even better app. These are just suggestions and ways that I would like to be able to use the app.
1. Allow for profiles to be set up. Such as during certain user defined times, the app automatically sets an away status.
2. Allow for away statuses to be enable for specific contacts, like a black/white list.
3. Set up a quick reply list so I can select from some predefined messages such as "Call if it's an emergency", "In class"...
Keep us updated...
Nice app by the way

Thanks for trying out my app.
I plan on adding a customizable list of away messages, so you can easily set "In class" etc...look for that update soon.
The Black List & Scheduled away messages are a great idea, although the initial decision creating the app was to make it as simple and quick as possible. Adding these features would be great, but also add more complication. I suppose there is no harm in adding these as optional features though, since if people wanted a quick easy solution they could simply not enable them.
I will keep you updated on the changes coming, look for your #1 to definitely be added with the possibility of #2 and/or #3.
Thanks again for trying my app, and leaving feedback!
P.S. Anyone else that has tried the app it would be great if you could rate it on the Android Market. Only a few people have rated it/commented, and I know many more have given it a try.
I like the demo app. I would like to try the full version but don't see it on the Market. I tried the posted barcode and it never loads the link in the browser.
Thanks,
I downloaded the donation version to be able to say what I want. What an awesome application. I can easily say one of my top 5 most useful. I set it when I'm driving, in a meeting, flying (in the air force) or when I'm busy with a million other things. Here is my list of features I would love to see, forgive me for any duplicates from any other post;
1. A widget! One that when pressed will turn on the auto reply AND have a drop down list of saves/pre-made responses.
2. Option to turn off notification bar icon, I hate that big green booger on my minimalist bar.
3. Option to save messages for future use through a quicky list
4. Option to have messages be contact specific (I would love to see this and would justify a higher price as it would make this an essential app, on par with SetCPU!)
5. Lastly, some notification of auto reply being sent, I'm currently not seeing one on my phone.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have heard more than once the need for customizable preset messages & option to turn off the notification "booger". I look to add those features this week. The rest of the suggestions I also agree with, and will hopefully work them in. I was looking to keep the app extremely simple, but the feedback so far has made it sound like the app is "too simple".

I am not too familiar with the Belgium Android Community, but it sounded like you said you are unable to buy any apps? If so, I do not know what I can do about that. But I will look into comparability for Android 1.6.

* Enable/Disable Notifications
* Text Forwarding (Currently only supports other Phone #s)

Both depend on the support of the project. Currently I have been hearing good feedback, but the number of downloads does not assure me it would be worth the time of creating an Android 1.6 version and/or porting to Windows Mobile.
I am currently working towards Version 2.0, and after that I will investigate porting and 1.6 support.
Thank you both for showing interest.
Any way of choosing which Apps this works with, as just had it in a weird loop on my facebook status. As I have fb notifacations sent to my mobile via texts, its put all away messages on my facebook, then as I had a new post, got sent a new text, which then triggered another away message...... Turned it off for now, but really good and usefull app, if you can have it only work with chosen apps. Like Handcent only.

thank you so much for sharing this app with the community. I have been fooling around with it for half an hour or so and it does some pretty awesome things. LOVE the in-car feature, completely hands-free and works perfectly, even reads and writes text messages for me. "hey vlingo"
Edit: Forgot to add, very accurate, even with names
Wow, the incar mode is really REALLY good. Anybody know how to have it differentiate between a contacts home and cell when sending a text message?
Say call blah blah mobile. That should work.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Google's voice search sucked at recognizing what I was saying for the first week or so, but then it got a lot better. I'm wondering if it learns your voice or something. Vlingo, on the other hand, worked well on day one. However, while it does a good job of recognizing what I am saying, it doesn't always give me the results I wanted. For instance, movie times never come up even though that's one of the examples the app shows, and it displays my exact phrase correctly (movie times near #####). It just says "No answer found". And I've also had trouble getting it to dial the right phone number for a contact. It's like it ignores when I say "mobile."
I'm having the same problem. It ignores when I say "mobile" after the contacts name. My g/f is getting irritated with the text to landline messages that repeat "test" lol
Is it necessary to install the standard Vlingo app before installing the incar pack?
I´ve been trying to download the installer but i still cant find it, it´s not in the market either.
It would be much if I ask to share the installer?

? It's in the second post of this thread.
anyway to successfully have this running in the background with the in-car? Currently it seems that the program has to be on main screen for me to say "Hey Vlingo" and it wakes...
Plus..too bad I cant say Jarvis to have it wake up
Instead of 'mobile' try saying 'cell'.

Wow, the incar mode is really REALLY good. Anybody know how to have it differentiate between a contacts home and cell when sending a text message?

Right now the best way is to make two contacts for the person and label one cell and one home after the name. Best workaround at the moment.

Yeah, I went ahead and did that the other day, but thanks! Hopefully that will get sorted.
It would be nice if you could ask it to use your GV # by default as well.
i wonder if there is any way to train a contact that it gets wrong every time. Wifes name is tricky and unless i use her last name first it misses it every time.

great keyboard works great
Took at look at your website, looks like a very good keyboard. I have the TMOUS HD2, and I've never liked its keyboard -- its keys are too close together.
I'd like to try SlideIT, but I have a question first. Can this keyboard be uninstalled if I don't like it by using "Remove programs" on my HD2? Thanks!
Looks like a great improvement. I'll post some feedback after some use. I already like the numbers/symbols being available by long press. That was one of the features lacking compared to Swype in my opinion.

mwalt2:
Did you install SlideIT on a TMOUS HD2? If so, when you installed the program, does it show up under Settings - Application - Remove programs? Have you tried uninstalling it? Thanks in advance for your reply.

No, I installed it on a RhodiumW. It shows up fine in the Remove Programs though. I haven't tried uninstalling, but it's generally pretty easy to look at a cab and just delete files from your phone if it won't uninstall. There's only 5 files, a shortcut added to \windows\startup, and 1 registry entry. A .dll goes in \Windows and 4 other files go in \Program Files\SlideIT. There's a setup.dll, but that probably just pops up the registration screen after install (though I don't know how to take the dll apart and see what it does ).
mwalt2:
Neither do I (know how to dissect dll's)!! Thanks for the details. I'll probably give it a try after I backup my phone with SPB Backup, just in case.
Works smooth, i like the keyboard also, doesnt lag. Some words to need to be spelled out tho, other than no problems. Definitly a GO
I tried to try the keyboard. It's always asking for an activation key. So it wasn't possible for me to try it. But it looks great. I'm using Goatrip 5.5..

Yes, since it didn´t work at my device (allways asking for activation) I uninstalled it using the windows routine. Everything seems to work as it should afterwards.
Here's my review after a few days of use.
Errors/Bugs
-General Settings - It says ‘Taping’ instead of Tapping.
-Check for update returns “You have a last version. Update is not available.” It would probably be more grammatically correct to just say "You have the latest version."
-Did have some problems getting it to type after initial install. I needed to switch to different keyboard and back to slideit in order for it to work correctly.
-At one point, I got stuck on registration/settings page and a task manager showed almost 11 MB of memory being used by SlideIT. It locked up the phone. This seems to be almost exclusively related to the registration pop up. It appears at different times (not just after a soft reset). I have a problem of it appearing after ending a call. It makes the device non-responsive for several seconds until the phone allows me to press 'OK'. I imagine this would not occur if I had a licensed version.
Likes over previous version
-Symbols above letters
-Smiles
-Moving the period to right of space bar. I was always pressing "," before in the previous version of SlideIT.
Suggestions
-Add a feature for one letter words like “I” an “a” where you can slide from I to space and have a space-I entered. As it is now, a space has to be entered manually before pressing “a” or “I”.
-Change Brown to default to the color instead of the name (lower case). Just personal preference I suppose .
Thanks and looking forward to the final version.
I would like to try it, looks nice to me, but when I press demo button it tells me that I need internet connection to activate demo. Probably becouse I am on wi-fi not on data connection. When I will have working intetrnet settings for prepay O2 UK I will try again. It would be nice to be abble to register with wi-fi internet co
nnection. Sorry for my English.
