Speech-to-Text- Voice Recognition - General Topics

Is there any ppc software out there that can do this?
I would love to use this for texting and emails?

plenty

There are services as well
Jott was the best known, but is now a pay service. You can get the voice to email/text message functionality from Dial2Do. I use it often when driving.

Thanks for the links...I'm also looking for SPEECH to text (not the reverse) solutions for WM...specifically like vlingo for Blackberry. Doesn't seem to be anything that competes with vlingo...anyone know of one?

Well I could not find one
so have put my email here http://www.vlingo.com/vlingo/vv_unsupported.jsp
for the vlingo version when its comes out
the more people to sign up the better

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that this Speech to Text conversion doesn't take place on the device, but rather the voice data is sent to a web server that decodes it and send back the text?
Is this true?

Yes. All the options till this date use a server for it as the database would be too big to be housed inside a smartphone.

Ive signed up tooooooooooooooo!!!!!!! Vlingo do something......hard to type sms on my omnia while driving!!!!!

I signed up too. Currently using Voice Command, but need this next step.

I this not the company that make the software you posted a video of http://www.nuance.com/nvc/ guess you could send them an email and get a trial.
Also the last post links to a cab that seems to do what but it is a 3 day trial
Sully

Vlingo
I too used Vlingo with my Blackberry during the painful months that I had to use the Curve. It is the only thing that I miss about that device, and I too have been looking for this software. Vlingo was very smooth, and it processed everything on the device itself. Telus offers a Voice Command service, but even their proprietary version takes much longer to convert than Vlingo did.

Disable "internet pictures blocked" in mail?

is there a reg setting some where to have it download all images as soon as i open the mail, instead of blocking them and waiting for me to click "unblock?"
bump....guys anyone?
would love to know here too.
Still nothing - not here, not in the General forum either!
This is a great question - that bugs the hell out of me!
Any ideas?
I got curious and also searched. Came up with 2 other threads of with the same question and no resolution.
Maybe you could post this in the Kaiser Tweaks thread as a feature request for the XML? Some of the folks watching that thread really seem to know the registry!
Don't know an answer but
Its a Microsoft safety setting because you can put malicious code in a .jpg so they only want you to open trusted images (yeah weak I know) but its the same way with exchange server emails. Would be great to put this in kaiser tweaks but it would also be good to select all emails from a certain sender. So if I open an email from my friend there could be check a box and then from now on he is trusted and it auto does it instead of just doing in blanket style. but thats just my opinion i could be wrong

This is a feature of Exchange/Outlook 2007, but you can configure it to automatically download the pictures. Unfortunately it seems there isn't a method of doing the same for WM

yep...I'd like to know too.
Yeah, I'd like to know as well !!
I'd like to know how to download internet pictures even the second time. When I get "Internet pictures blocked" and I tap on it it then says "Download Internet pictures". When I tap on that "Internet pictures blocked" returns. I can Send/Receive and still no pictures. Frustrating.
If it matters I run my own email server on Linux and I am accessing it on the phone via IMAP.
I get this also on a standard ROM, anyone managed to suss it yet?
Very similar to the other problem I have with my Kaiser, regarding the "annoying "Internet pictures blocked" link in POutlook messaging.
FWIW, I don't know if it's a 6.1 thing or not, but it looks like if click the link the first time to emails, it'll cache the images so they'll open the next time you open that email -- but then again, who reads emails 15 times?
I was trying FlexMail, but for various reasons, not the least was my experience in asking questions on their forum which no one answered, but also the fact that when I get a Starbucks email, I'd like to be able to see the images not shrunk so much I can't read the text in the images... know what I mean? I bailed on that trial, and have used QMAIL, but it does something similar but much more comprehensive in scope... my only annoyance with QMAIL is it doesn't integrate into the messaging subsystem, oh well... so much for Voice Command telling me when I have new mail in my AutoPilot Qmail settings, but at least -- no "Internet Pictures Blocked" bull-pucky.
It seems though that maybe 6.1, as opposed to the older ROMs, is starting to show my email pictures without the nasty fuzziness! Hurray! I can see the Starbucks cup full-size, albeit I still have to tap the download images link the first time I open each email, and I have to tap the "scroll" link each time... maybe a small price to pay?
But maybe... just maybe, there's a registry king/queen out there who can pour through the registry and shed some light on these issues... maybe... I may, during some night-shift work, while I'm probably supposed to be passing medications ( ) sync up and look through the reg to see if I can see anything that might help, and putz around a bit.
HOWEVER... it'd be much easier if Microsoft just made a CAB that addressed these issues and fixed the problems, adding a few benefits on the side like trusted domains, adjustable font size, etc.
... but then again, maybe we'll run smack into another ice age by 2010, too...
Cheers,
BereanPK
Was this issue ever solved? It is soooo annoying, reading an emailm having to click you trust, having to click DL pics, having to go back, click send/recieve to DL pics. Then go look at the email. I have went from 1 tap and reading full HTML email on my iphone, to like 6 taps to get a full message on my WinMo phone.
I too am looking for a resolution to this.
Has this issue found a solution yet ?
Was hoping for an update when i saw this resurface. Hoping for something.....
still nothing! :-(
Still unsolved?
This thread has been floating around for ages now with no answer... adding "still unsolved" or "still nothing!" isn't likely to resolve it, so why do it?
C'mon people.... if you are going to post here, at least have an answer.

Fake calls Software for PPC

Hello,
I've been looking and searching for a software that does the same as "call jockey" does for the wm smartphone. That is we can schedule fake calls in order to get away from unwanted situations.
Can one of the guru's develop such a softwarebcs I've looked everywhere and don't think it exists.
Thnaks
Xtp
Does it actually make a call, or just play a ringtone?
yea, why not just set up an alarm with ur ringtone, and pretend to talk or something.
I remember reading about a web site that would take your phone number and you could schedule calls in advance. it would actually play one side of a conversation that you could participate in (if you felt so inclined).
No clue what the url is, but it's out there somewhere! If someone came up with it, you could use your browser and do what you want without having to install a new program.

When you put it in "InCar" mode you can say "Hey Vlingo" to wake it up and use voice commands.
FYI, this works on the VZW with the Incredible with no problem..

Also, it works! The new Google program is about 1/10 in getting what I say right.
Vlingo is (so far) about 5/5. I like that if it doesn't find what you're saying locally, it does a (very fast) internet search.
any word on making it work for other android devices? ie the g-1

Works great on the dinc. I appreciate the share!
thank you so much for sharing this app with the community. I have been fooling around with it for half an hour or so and it does some pretty awesome things. LOVE the in-car feature, completely hands-free and works perfectly, even reads and writes text messages for me. "hey vlingo"
Edit: Forgot to add, very accurate, even with names
Wow, the incar mode is really REALLY good. Anybody know how to have it differentiate between a contacts home and cell when sending a text message?
Say call blah blah mobile. That should work.

Google's voice search sucked at recognizing what I was saying for the first week or so, but then it got a lot better. I'm wondering if it learns your voice or something. Vlingo, on the other hand, worked well on day one. However, while it does a good job of recognizing what I am saying, it doesn't always give me the results I wanted. For instance, movie times never come up even though that's one of the examples the app shows, and it displays my exact phrase correctly (movie times near #####). It just says "No answer found". And I've also had trouble getting it to dial the right phone number for a contact. It's like it ignores when I say "mobile."
I'm having the same problem. It ignores when I say "mobile" after the contacts name. My g/f is getting irritated with the text to landline messages that repeat "test" lol
Is it necessary to install the standard Vlingo app before installing the incar pack?
I´ve been trying to download the installer but i still cant find it, it´s not in the market either.
It would be much if I ask to share the installer?

anyway to successfully have this running in the background with the in-car? Currently it seems that the program has to be on main screen for me to say "Hey Vlingo" and it wakes...
Plus..too bad I cant say Jarvis to have it wake up
Instead of 'mobile' try saying 'cell'.

Right now the best way is to make two contacts for the person and label one cell and one home after the name. Best workaround at the moment.

Yeah, I went ahead and did that the other day, but thanks! Hopefully that will get sorted.
It would be nice if you could ask it to use your GV # by default as well.
i wonder if there is any way to train a contact that it gets wrong every time. Wifes name is tricky and unless i use her last name first it misses it every time.

Any application that can read SMS' out loud (possibly through a bluetooth device?)??

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

Google Voice 0.3.0 Galaxy S3 ICS 4.0.4

**UPDATE** I MADE IT WORK
Hey, I'm not sure if there is an answer to this...
I just got my GS3 and love it! However, Google Voice 0.3.0 (ya'll know why I love it) crashes on the ICS 4.0.4 platform. I have been using
Voice+ but I just don't like the call back feature. I have also found a smart gv dialer that automatically decides between gv and the cell carrier based upon certain rules but it still takes a while to complete the calling card style dial through.
YES, I WANT MY CAKE AND TO EAT IT TOO!!! or in this case my ice cream sandwich I know with the unlimited plans floating around most people don't care anymore. I have an OLD OLD OLD plan that is grandfathered in with unlimited data so I don't want to give it up.
My question is, does anyone know of a fix for the app crash that worked fine in 2.2. Or has anyone "recompiled" the app to work in ICS?
Thanks for any help...
THE ANSWER!!!
UPDATE:
Yay! I know it doesn't seem like much for some but those of us still using our trusty f&f plans this is big.
I hope this helps someone out there who found that the old GV 0.3.0 app would hang up and crash as soon as you touched next on the new ICS 4.0.4.
If you want to have the old GV 0.3.0 on ICS 4.0.4, follow these steps:
1. Install newest version of GV from play store.
2. Open GV and touch next but do not choose the displayed gmail account touch USE A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT (this is the only way to get this
to work!)
3. Type in your Gmail address and your password (I know it is the same one that was displayed on the previous page... THIS IS THE ONLY
WAY TO GET IT TO WORK!) Touch sign in.
4. Choose how you want GV to dial and whether or not you want to set up the GV Voicemail.
5. Now, download the old GV 0.3.0 apk here: http://www.freewarelovers.com/androi...oice_0.3.0.apk
Thank you www.freewarelovers.com!!
6. Make sure Install from Unknow Sources is selected under the security tab in your settings menu.
7. Open the Google_Voice_0.3.0.apk file (Look in your apps and touch Downloads to get to the downloaded files)
8. You will get a message that you are replacing an application and that all previous user data will be saved. Touch OK.
9. Touch Install.
Now you should have a working GV 0.3.0 apk that will allow you to call through GV utilizing only one access number place this number in your F&F list and make outgoing calls for free!
*Disclaimer - Although this works you may want to review your TOS to see if this violates your carriers terms for Friends and Family numbers.
If this helped you please show my thanks meter some love!

Gv works fine for me. Are you still stock or on a custom rom? Fresh gv download from play?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
GV works for me as well, I only use it for voicemails but I haven't had any odd issues. Btw, why are you on an older version? The app hasn't been updated since March but it's on build 0.4.2.54. I definitely suggest using the above users' suggestions.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The reason for gv 0.3.0 is because this is the last version that does not use direct access numbers. It only uses one number for direct dialing out. Which means I can assign the one number to my f&f list.

I know it is fairly moot, I said almost the same thing in my original post. However, some of us don't like change. Also, I only have 500 minutes for my wife and I to share (makes our plan really cheap) but we do have F&F numbers. Generally the callback dialers don't put the outgoing number in the history and it takes 5 seconds or so to connect to the outgoing call (also fairly moot for the use of free calling).

Oh im sorry I think you misunderstood what I meant. The way you describe above didnt work for me, I still got force closed when launching GV after installing the older version. You can search here and see the thread regarding that.
What I meant was, there is a simple way to use the new version of google voice that allows for dialing one number only so that your friends and family list can have that one number in it still. I like the look of the new version personally, I would like a black themed one though so I may look for that later.
A side note, the new plans include unlimited voice anyways so it only really matters if you arent on one of the new plans.

First, what is your problem? Did you not read my posts or just like to come and insert your conjecture wherever you can? I stated I have a CHEAP plan with only 500 minutes. I pay $89/mo for two smartphones with unlimited data, TRY TO BEAT THAT PRICE!
Second, if you merely select the gmail account linked to your phone on the first set-up screen then it wont work. You must use the "use a different account option." Then yes, you manually type in the same gmail address that is more than likely the gmail address you use to link your android phone to google. This is the way that the old google voice app stores your user data and will allow the old gv app to work. Plus, there is no way to make the new gv app stop dialing direct access numbers.
Feel free to offer the way you "know" it can only dial one access number and I would be more than happy to try the new gv app.
UPDATE: Furthermore I have looked at all of your posts concerning this issue and you have not offered a single solution towards the problem nor explained work arounds you tried or how they failed or worked.

you are being way to hostile. I AM IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU, I have 1400 minutes with a family plan. I am however fortunately on unlimited data. So I dont know what you mean by "insert your conjecture". I will beat it because I pay $150 for 5 lines and have unlimited data on at least 2 of the lines. So I understand the value of friends and family lists.
The "Second , if you merely select... " way doesnt work in all/most cases. I have discussed this in another thread that I had locked because there was no interest in this. The way I came up with works consistently.
I wasnt being confrontational to you, I even apologized that you misunderstood what I was saying. I will say it again too, sorry if what I was saying came across differently then what I said. I have tried your way on multiple phones repeatedly and kept getting force close. That is how I figured this other way that actually works on the new version of the app.

no thanks, for someone being so hostile why would anyone want to share with you. you could of searched and easily seen the post I made a month ago about this and that it works but instead you rack up 7 posts boasting something new and being a jerk, as if no one else has ever thought of this. Theres other users that have pm'd me and I've helped them get this working properly on the new app version.
Right on for getting it to work because thats the goal really. But when you see that it doesnt work on all google voice accounts, you might want to rethink your responses.
p.s. good job searching after posting. No I am not gauging demand, I've helped people in pm because of WHY google voice calls a different out number each time normally.

Enough you two! If he does not want to post his solution then he is just trolling
And we don't feed the trolls. Confronting him only continues the senseless posting and helps no one.
I will close this thread if it does not get back to constructive, helpful posts

I actually came to this conclusion as I started to reply the last time and have simply ignored him. My apologies. I am new to forum posting and had no idea what was really out there. I was just surprised and allowed my competitive spirit to get the better of me. I just have a hard time understanding why people make uneducated statements off of half reading a post. There will be no more exchanges between me and him.

Sorry kennyglass, not trolling at all. In fact, I took a second to think about the google voice app functionality and this thread. There is a reason Google changed the app from the old version to new version and why it dials random multiple numbers. So, posting in public how to circumvent that might not be the best idea, especially if we want it to continue to function with one number dialing.
You can look that there is no less then 3 threads related to this subject that I posted over the past couple months.
1. How to check compatibility with older version of google voice app to ICS and the SGS3
2. How google voice apps functions and why one gv account dials a single number while others dial multiple numbers (when setup the same with the same versions of apps)
3. How to get it working and the interest of others wanting to know how to do it with the newest version of the app.
You just have to search before starting a new thread.
This isnt where I just saw a random thread in General and said lets mess with the guy, NO, in fact this has been a couple months in the making where I tested, asked questions, tested more, then figured out how to do it. As I said before, it might not be the best idea to post how to do it on the newest version of the app where it works on every gv account (not just some). I have helped many others already on how to do it privately as I am not sure I want google to discover this and stop it. Surely you know that google did this at the pressure of the Cellular providers?
The kind, not so negative people that want help have figured out that they can simply pm me and I'll help. Also, I wasnt flaming, trolling, nor was I even negative. I complimented the OP for figuring out a way that works for him. I even apologized TWICE for any misunderstanding, but I didnt feel to much like sharing publicly after being told what is your problem or to prove it... would you?
maybe people shouldnt read 'tone' on the internet, reading doesnt always translate to tone well..........
and to note the half read posts comment, it is hard to reply to a post that is edited over and over, hence the ORIGINAL quote, to inform the reader what was being commented on.
Thanks for the PM tillithz. The process was simple and easy and it works.
Since, I came up with a way that works 100% of the time without using an OLD version and I am happily helping others get it working as well, I will link to the ORIGINAL thread so that I dont ruffle any feathers here. You can either use the OP'ers method with the old version of the app or visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31936430#post31936430 for a current method. enjoy!
Trying to use a different google account, and then using my same name and password didn't work. It said that user already existed. So I was forced to sign in using my main google account. Went through the rest of the steps and everything appears to work, I was able to install GV 0.3 and open it up. Although it doesn't appear to actually function. It won't download my new messages, for instance. Any help?
I was able to make this trick work by installing google voice version 0.4.2.54 along with google voice version 0.3.0. Thanks for the great trick! Its very usefulx for those of us on a legacy plan.
