i read a post from a chinese forum about x10, mentioning that the handcent sms greatly impacts the battery time negatively.
i havent tested it yet. does it make sense?
after updating to 2.1, my battery time gets worse than that of 1.6, so i am going all out to find a solution.

Meaning, if youve recieved a text and have not yet read it. Then it consumes battery more?
Wonder why!
Tbh, my battery doesn't seem as good as it use to be, Im on 2.1, lot of customisation! Hmm :/
thanks for all of your responses. i'll make an evaluation and post back soon.

I think that if you have the blinking LED going (e.g. to notify of a new message) that reduces the battery quite a lot. So I do my best to turn all LED notifications off.
Not sure if that will help but try it out.
uninstalled handcent but didnt find obvious difference. many people here repoered longer battery time. i dont know why i got the opposite result. now i may have to root my phone to freeze some applications i dont use. hope this would be helpful.

Iv had my evo for a week now and i used handcent on my samsung moment with no problem but on the evo i noticed that if i dont open a message immediatly the phone will stay awake. (screen will black out but phone is still running) Iv verified this in spare parts. I had over an hour of usage from handcent in partial wake usage.
Does anyone have a solution for this? I love the way handcent work and its layout. Iv checked in handcents settings and nothing should keep the phone from staying awake. my evo is stock with root.
I've been using Handcent since I've had the EVO. Like you I came from the Moment too. I've had no issues.

All I can tell you is reinstall handcent I guess.
Hey, ive noticed that the default messaging app is pretty slow to load or send messages. I even tried handcent and got the same issue. It's like a 2-3 second lag when opening the app or selecting a specific message. Does anyone else have the same issue? Wasn't this bad on my nexus :/
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I use handcent and its almost instant when I send or load messages. I don't like the stock message app so I never really tried with that one.
Do you have a specific setting to make it faster??
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I use Go sms. It is free and pretty fast. The delay could also be happening if you have a lot of messages though. That would slow down any sms app.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
The HTC messaging app had been criticized for having this slow issue before, so nothing new. Just use handcent or similar.
Handcent is instantaneous with send/receive, plus pop up text, can't go wrong.

I've had this issue. Actually i've had issues where the entire device gets so slow i have to reboot. This hasn't happened since i changed kernels. I use smartkeyboard pro too, so i reduced the length of time of the haptic feedback and that helped too.
That's why I use go sms.

Seems so.I've had no reboots either side from accident holding the power button too long and it rebooting on me... lol
This is an example of people not understanding what issues are. I had to stop your video when I saw it.
The keyboard lags in the MESSAGING app. Not anywhere else. Any SMS client with any keyboard will have the lag. To repeat, the actual bug is "lags when typing text messages." So no, people aren't smoking crack. Just you and several others don't seem to understand the actual issue.
Not trying to dog you out, just misinformation is one of my pet peeves.

Strange... I use handcent and better keyboard fully customized and I have no lag on this or stock keyboard in messaging or any app for that matter
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Well if using handcent fixes the lag, then I stand corrected. I used the default keyboard, gingerbread keyboard from the market, swype, default SMS app and go SMS. All combinations produced the lag after a bit of texting, not just just one sentence.
If you can type out a paragraph using handcent without it slowing down then I will shut up. And thank you for finding a workaround.

Try calibrating your battery.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
There is a rogue app in your drawer. download watchlist app, it will keep track on other apps which are hogging your system.
Battery calibration won't and doesn't do anything useful... its more then likely an app or something running constantly. What's your screen on times? Post a screenshot of your battery usage.

I'm on 2.3.4 with practically all the bloat and more removed, holy hell battery is terrible for me... if testing to find rouge apps doesn't work I'm gonna factory reset and just not install any thing. Today I didn't hardly use my phone (no work) sat around on the computer, paid some bills watched some movies and TV, sent two text messages and read 3 emails battery was at 65% after 3 ½ hours... 3 of which was idle time and screen off. Never had it so bad before.

Anytime. That's usually the first thing I do when I install a rom based on lg stock. That app runs constantly eating data and ram. You will usually gain almost 1mb of open ram by just deleting it.

What the hell is qem_warlock .it's been on my kernel warlock since I unplugged.
I pretty much don't play games and don't stream music or anything like large data usage. I call text browse and read articles and such, XDA and Facebook is about it for other usage though, light in most eyes, and I under-clock the phone to 700's usually.

Its not bad, but it could be better. It looks like u lose signal a few times throughout the day. The phone searchin for signal will def drain ur battery. That was really the only thing i noticed. Looks like ur awake time and screen on time r pretty dead on (better than mine) so ur peob not havin wakelock problems. Do u use the facebook app? It is a huge battery hog.

I like the Friendcaster app for Facebook. It does everything the official app does and it's a lot more resource-lean. It's also easier to use, IMO.

Also runs a ton faster.
Properly configured, Friendcaster uses C2DM for notifications which is already running anyway, so there's nothing extra polling in the background.

I've got notifications disabled with Friendcaster and it uses 1mb of RAM when it runs in the background. The upside is that I have the option of "sharing" with my other apps.
I'm one of those annoying people who always posts pics of their kids and articles that no one else likes to read, so having this option is important to me.
