They aren't fashionable these days, but for texting and emailing, they are still very practical. Out of curiosity, what do you consider to be the best hardware keyboard that you've ever used on a cell phone? Why?
Personally, I think that the HTC Touch Pro 2 was the best keyboard that I ever used because of its excellent layout. I also firmly prefer 5-row keyboards, which is one reason why I choose to import my Samsung Epic 4G and use it as a wi-fi device. The keyboard also allowed me to type at a decent WPM rate.

I'm hoping for an Android phone with a similar layout. The G2/Desire Z is a 4-row keyboard and I think that the hinge might snap on that phone.
Note: Please back up your opinions with why if you are going to post a new keyboard.
Without question, the Touch Pro 2.
I absolutely agree, I can only hope there will be a newer model with a keyboard this awesome some day!
hTC Universal has been byfar the best kb device I ever used, of course my Rhodium was a great experience too but never compared to the magnificent kb and rotating pivoting screen of the Uni
Let´s see the Touch Pro 7, hope it will continue the great line of business/kb devices
There's also the new HTC 7 Pro, which is a Windows Phone 7 device. It appears to resemble the Touch Pro 2.
Lets phone for an Android version soon.
TP2 easily. So much space, and so comfortable.
You could have easily made the title of the thread:
Everyone reply to this by saying "Touch Pro 2"
...and gotten basically the same results.

At least one person thinks the HTC Universal is a good keyboard.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and not go with the epic 4g or any android phone in general, but rather the lg xenon. (;

The SE Xperia X2's keyboard is amazing! It had a good feedback and wasn't too "clickey"
Too bad poor software made this phone basically unusable ...
Rhodium phone for sure.

Why was the G1 so good as keyboard? It didn't feel as good as the TP2, unless you've never used it. Or if you're being sarcastic.
I liked the tp1, moved to tp2 and LOOOved it
I have the epic now and love it too. It's near perfect. (Only issue is when you type fairly fast it begins to mis letters and such...not that often though. Maybe 1 every 25 characters)
Overall tp2, epic and tp1 grade A keyboards
Epic Is As Epic Does
hTC Desire Z is also a good competitor, shame only Android on it...
Hope in 2011 the development of real hardware keyboard devices continues and give us a nice surprise!
Still thinking the best all times keyboard device is Universal

I've never used the TP2, I was answering the question. Best keyboard I have used. My opinion.
Yeah, I like the G1 keyboard. Haven't used the TP2 though it certainly looks decent (layout) in photos.
Waiting for a new Android phone with a keyboard at least as good as the G1. G2 loses because of no dedicated digit row.
The best that I've used is probably my Moments keyboard. I liked the soft keys and the spacing. The worst I've used is probably tied right now. Either the Palm Pre keyboard since it's so small, or the Droid keyboard.

Hi,
Having used Tytn II for 6 months now, I guess there wont be any update regarding the display drivers from HTC, which is the main cause of annoyance. I am looking for suggestions/advice for buying something better then this PDA.
Thanks
If you don't mind leaving Windows, you should get a Nokia N96.
Or if you don't want to leave windows, you can get an HTC X7501. The only problem with that one is that its kinda big due to the 5" screen.

hey, i was kinda in the same boat as you, and ended up buying an n95-4 (the 8gb version). i used it for a few days, and now i'm back to my tilt. the biggest reasons are lack of html in ur emails, no qwerty, and no touchscreen. never knew how important those two are to me. wm also has a lot of free programs, and you dont have to deal with getting them signed (wtf is that??) anywayz, while we ***** and moan about lack of drivers, in all actuality, i think we have the best phone on the market...

I think so too. I can't have a phone without qwerty or touchscreen. And no html in emails? What kinda cheap **** is that?

ya thats one thing i hate about the n95-4, it feels like any crappy cheap phone. its light, not very solidly built (search for slider issues on these phones) and the entire layout of the phone feels the same as any free nokia... now to sell this phone, anybody wanna buy a brand new n95-4
I'll trade you an unlocked Wing for it.
Why is everyone forgetting to mention the world famous iPhone!!!
LOL
ha lol, na thats aiight, i can sell it for $600, easy... bunch of nokia freaks out there
Yea the iphone is good if u dont mind losing your QWERTY and u want something simple. i would compare it to a sidekick on speed. But not a bad phone overall
WOW!!! I was being sarcastic.....
I bought a N95 8gb, really nice piece of gear (would be even better if I could learn how to use the damn thing) great media functions BUT!!!!! there is now a new learning curve, wheres the the stick??? there is no stick no qwerty I have gotten use to win mobile and and using a stylus and qwerty keyboard...on the plus side Movie playback and games are Smoooooooooooth
this is the one

Will write a mini review in this thread after I have configured it and have used it for a few days.
Hey guys
I won't bore you with a long story so here goes the short one: I need a new phone, I currently have an Acer M900, I could buy another M900 but why not try another?
must have KEYBOARD!
Current choices and ruled out:
Omnia 2 - b7whateveritisbuthasakeyboard - No diferent to my Acer and no chefs
Milestone/Android - serious concerns over its keyboard, market access for non-network locked. Ruled out.
TP2 - lesser model than my current Acer and its HTC which i refuse to buy having been burnt several times.
So, are there any other top of the line phones with a keyboard i haven't considered?
Thanks!!!
Have you looked at the Sony Ericsson X2?
But only the TP2 has XDA developer support

Not heard of an X2 so will take a look but I know the X1 was somewhat of a disaster and also made by HTC.
omniapro b7610. its basically an omnia2 with a keyboard. (slightly smaller screen and internal storage...)
LG Expo (IQ). 1Ghz Snapdragon and wm6.5.
and yeah the xperia x2. looks really sweet but using old processor. not made by HTC.

start or end or no idea? I'm only back in the country for the first few days...... argh!

Very pricey and April
X2 will be awesome, and it's coming soon in the States (not sure about elsewhere).
The Expo too is a good phone for sure, what with Snapdragon and a nice keyboard.

Actually moto droid/milestone is by far the best android if you need a keyboard, it is as thin as without a keyboard. it has no buttons around the sides and the notification light is the very best - not rediculously bright.

how about the lg eve? the keys are small but are better spaced out.
Im looking for a GSM, and considered the mytouch, but the processor is slower then most phones I've had... How come most phones with keyboards arnt as good as touch only?
Droid: I've really heard the keyboard sucks, dont want to risk it
Lg eve: TINY screen. Going from hd2 to eve: suicide.

HTC Kaiser with flashed Eclair 2.1, why reinvent the wheel?

Why get another phone only to put Android on it? Seems pointless to me.... especially if you're suggesting something that breaks sound.
I am so close to getting my entire family on HTC devices.
I have a TP2, daughter has an Eris, Son getting an Imagio.
The wife wants an Android phone but she (like me) needs a physical keyboard.
Of all the Android devices HTC has put out, why are there so few with physical keyboards (both on T-Mobile at that).
UGH...
Now she is leaning towards a Moto Droid... .
Not only on young Android
for WM too
Hope last qt2010 we can see something

PC70110=HTC Wildfire?
In China, many sites say PC70110(or Wildfire, you can visit:http://www.pdafans.com/article-6189-1.html) has QWERTY keyboard......
The PC70110 is not the Wildfire. The picture is the Wildfire. The PC70110 looks has a keyboard like a TouchPro2.
Interesting phone although.
I literally just posted this in another forum today, but I completely agree. I am dumbfounded by the lack of an HTC Android QWERTY. Then again, looking at the history, it could be on its way in 4th quarter. Granted, these were almost all WinMo phones, but still...
HTC's Verizon release schedule for example:
Keyboard
HTC Harrier - November 2004
HTC Apache - February 2006 (odd delays, believe me, I remember)
HTC Titan - December 2007
HTC Raphael - November 2008
HTC Rhodium - September 2009
No Keyboard
HTC Vogue - April 2008
HTC Diamond - April 2009
HTC Droid Incredible - April 2010
Seems like a pretty obvious pattern to me. Sometime in 4th quarter most likely, but I'd love to see some more leaked info soon. In the past, we've typically already seen the first in the wild shots, FCC info, etc... Nothing so far, which has me thinking I'll end up with the Droid 2.
I will say that I'm getting closer to being comfortable moving away from a hardware QWERTY. I am definitely switching to an Android device this fall, and with multi-touch keyboards and Swype, I'm feeling a little more confident in the transition. Big step though, had a hardware keyboard since 2004.

Well it is moot now. We ended up getting my wife an LG Ally
I think most hardware companies think it's all about getting the latest chips and screens, slapping it in any old case, and getting it on the market. Keyboards take time and effort to design. This is also why just about every non-Apple phone is painful to look at.

Honestly, I thought I'd never replace my G1 without having a new hardware keyboard. Wife had a few free upgrades so we got our new MT3GS's, and I've used the keyboard maybe 10 times in the weeks I've had it. SWYPE has made me a believer, I will probably never use the keyboard again unless SWYPE is not available.

Hi everyone, I have been wondering what people think is the best phone on the market and why?
This thread is designed for those who want to purchase a new phone, but don't want to buy something that is only hyped and has no substance. By the people, For the People!
Please state the phone and your reason why it is your personal favorite. (Note: It could be any phone, even the iPhone 4.)
Thanks To all those who post!
I thought the Motorola Dynatac 800X was pretty coollio, last week!
My favorite phone by all means is (because I own it) HTC HD2. Mines is a TMOUS, but if you are planning on buying one get the world version its universal. Here is a video (not mine) on why the HD2 is better than iPhone 3GS in versus type explanation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9cOMoouatY&feature=related . The HD2 is a versatile device. It has the capability of running Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Mobile 6.5.x, and new to the device many versions of android. I personally enjoy its big 4.3 inch screen. It has a pretty good 5 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash.
Exception: The phone overheats alot!
That's funny,

Whats funny is this was a monutmental breakthrough in cellular phones. The precvious model looked like a car battery with a phone on top. My neighboor got the first car/cell phone ever made and showed it off to the neighboorhood. It was funny because no one ,,,, got it. No one understood what that big ass cynderblock represented and what it would lead too. So when ever I see the older cell phones I think back to the original and laugh thinking, if you'd been carrying that car battery the past 2 years this thing looks like its from startrek.
I here there will be a new Brick just around the corner

my favorite is the htc hd2 too, but thats because i love winmo, and i love the option to boot android too (wich works just awsome, better then i thought).
but for a totaly new person, i wouldnt recommend to buy a winmo 6.5 phone, cause that OS is sadly dying more and more, and the hd2 will probably the last winmo device.. ;(
i would wait for a new phone to come out..

I'd go for the hd2, I don't own it. But I like the device.
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
Now i have a motorola dext. pretty good phone, really.
But i love the NexusOne and the HD2, if i have money i buy one.
I love my HD2. Even before I Android running on it. WinMo is smooth as silk on it. I love options too.
I love my diamond,if i have money i would buy a desire!
Well, mine is the Desire.I own it,I love Android,I love the device itself and would recommend it to everyone!
Thanks for the Replies
