Is the HTC Touch Pro able to work on U.S 3G band , if not is there a radio patch that will activate the U.S band on the device. Please help.

We shall see what happens, although the bands are available in the "band" settings tab so it MAY be a radio issue.
Bit early to know yet, as there is only one user here so far who has hold of an AT&T Fuze (RAPH11000) we dont have a huge ammount of detail yet.
Both the newer 1.02.25.31 and 1.02.25.19 radios seem to have similar protocols (same QCT_BOOT and HTC_BOOT), it would be good if any user could flash the (apparently) older 1.02.25.11 radio and see if it does anything?
I really wish i could help out on this 3G front but no 3G in my area...
I can help...

I have the 1.02.25.19 radio here in Chicago. I know I have good 3G coverage from my TyTN II that I had previously. But why would you think the OLDER radio (1.02.25.11) would have U.S. 3G? ...jus curious.

I've installed the radio 1.02.25.11 and no luck with 3G in US ATT. only edge support.

I tried all the radios listed on the wiki too. None of them worked with 3G.

Its bundled with the AT&T ROM which is currently on the AT&T Fuze devices people are testing.
Higher radio version number doesnt necessarily mean a better one, as veterans of the Hermes will verify
The overseas Touch Pro cannot get 3G in the US. Just like the Diamond, the Touch Pro from overseas (RAPH100) does not have a WCDMA 850 radio.
Flash all the radios you guys want... it's not going to get you 3G on the 850 band. You'll have to wait for the US version/ATT Fuze if you're in the US and want 3G data.
Anyone know when AT&T sould release US version/ATT Fuze?

Until we have tested newer ROMs and radios that statement is pure speculation. MANY devices have had missing bands and etc...but have had them unlocked in ROM and Radio updates so it is too early to be writing off 3G support yet.
I have a TouchPro coming tomorrow. I called HTC today and (although I have about as much confidence in this as the paper I wrote this on) I was told by a lower level tech (I think he knew what I was talking about) that a "software" upgrade would allow for the European 3G enabled device to work in the US for 3G
... I sure hope so since I forked out the cash today
The Treo 750 didn't even start out 3G capable at all and was made 3G able with a ROM upgrade
Hoping
Hardware
Maybe a very stupid question, but what about openning up an eu version to see if the quad radio hardware is there? I would assume the radio chipset would be labeled and numbered so that we would know once and for all.

I thought about this but cracking open a 900 dollar device and completely voiding the warranty really isn't worth it. If someone can get schematic from HTC which i doubt we could see if the hardware is installed.

I believe there is an asian hardware version, this is what the HTC techs keep mentioning that might have the 850 3G radio.
I have a case into HTC support asking them to answer the question for me around if the radio is hardware capable of 3G in the US and explained what bands I was talking about and that it was in the software to enable those. I Posed the question as if I was unhappy that I was selecting these bands and it wasnt working to try to get an answer out of them will report back when I am answered one way or another.

Just so you know - I sent a similar email to them regarding the 850 band on the Diamond and I was sent a very nice response informing me that the phone I purchased was not intended for the US and did not have the hardware capability to be used on ATT in the US. Low and behold the xda developers made the 850 band work. Now HTC offers a rom upgrade opening the 850 band they said was not in phone. Unfortunately the response you get will not be the definitive answer.

I understand yours and others' reasons for not believing me or assuming it's speculation. All I can say is there will be a lot of effort put forth for no reason, just like with the DIAM100, only to confim that the hardware everyone is trying to unlock isn't even there. If the efforts put forth do nothing more than prove the above to be true, then at the very least people can rest more easily with full confirmation.
Good day to you all,
I would like to know if there's any way at all that a T-Mobile G1 can access the Rogers 3G network. Radio update, etc?
I have posted this question in the Dream and Dream Q&A section with no responses. I'm sure this isn't specifically a development question, but you guys might know the answer.
Thanks!
no it is a hardware not a software limitation sorry
Not what I wanted to hear, but it makes sense.
So on the Rogers network, I'll be stuck with the EDGE data?

yes but the normal g1 can not utilise these frequencies unless it falls between a specific range which the rogers 3g network does not. However the t-mobile ones do
correct - its a frequency thing, which is dictated by the radio hardware, not the sim or a software setting.

nope it is only able to use a t-mobile 3g network with a tmobile sim. I meant you should buy a t-mobile sim for use with the t-mobile network if you really needed it.

Rogers definitely supports full 3G, it's 3.5G (HSDPA) as a matter of fact.
The G1 runs on a different frequency and can't access the Rogers 3G, only EDGE data network.
The point of this thread was to see if the G1 radio was capable of using the Rogers frequencies... Guess not...
Doesnt rogers carry the dream? Why get a Tmobile G1 when the Rogers Dream is the same phone except it uses the correct frequencies for 3G?

I bought a 'bricked' G1 on eBay for $40. I fixed it in a matter of minutes. I figured it was a hell of a deal, but I didn't think about the fact that I would be missing 3G here in Canada.
I already own the HTC Magic 32A (Rogers), this G1 is just to play around with.
No idea why anyone brought up SIM cards or whatever. That's utterly irrelevant, and only served to confuse people. Thanks.
The radio in the TMO G1 only supports UMTS Band I (2100) and Band IV (AWS). The Rogers G1 supports Band II (1900).
My recommendation is to resell that fixed G1, and find yourself a Rogers Dream.
You can convert your HTC Dream to 3G in Canada by replacing the antenna. Here's a link to a (probably) T-Mobile antenna as an example. But if you can find one for Canadian frequencies... Good luck!
Ive had the g1 before the dream came out , if I were to get a dream do I root the same way with the downgrade then flash new Rom , I m running hero Rom right now on my g1 .

Hi,
I just bought a Telus Milestone while in Canada las week, I bought it from a Best Buy store in Toronto.
I live in Costa Rica and we use 850mhz 3G band but for some reason is not picking up 3G band only GSM with EDGE data connection.
I already try the "WCDMA only" option but still not working it goes out of service.
Is there anything different in Telus 3G network that could be not compatible here?. All of the iPhones 3G and 3GS work here with no problems, same as some other ATT phones.
According to the FCC my phone supports 850mhz 3G band.
Behind the battery it says: FCC IHDP56KC5
And according to FCC documentation it supports WCDMA 850/1900/2100 plus HSDPA 10.2 mbps
So, I don't know what's going on...
Hope somebody can help me, I heard there is a Field Test hidden option on the phone that can show some troubleshooting information, but I don't know how to access it.
Thanks for the help,
Luis
Planning to buy one too, so it'd be handy to know what's going on there. I take it you bought it unlocked? Also, is the APN and all that setup correctly? How do you have it setup, is it one of the new 3G phone lines or an old GSM one (which are capable of 3G as well)?
I have the exact same problem down in Mexico, I just received an unlocked Telus Milestone and all I get is edge. I am using the same APN configuration that I have on my Rogers Dream (G1) and I do get 3G on that one.
Also, I believe this forums are for HTC phones only, I'm not sure we'll get lots of help here on a Moto issue.
Mine does work on HSPA+ here on Telus.
Just a hypothesis would be: Since it has only been released on HSDPA/HSPA+ network in Canada, they haven't done proper testing on 3G mode and there is a bug in 3G only mode.
Like I said, I can't say for sure since the only other GSM network we have here is rogers which is mixed 3G and HSPA+.
On second thought, I do have a Fido/Rogers SIM lying around so I'll give it a shot over the weekend and let you guys know.
Thanks Ady, it does sound like a compatibility issue. I have tried Telcel, I should be able to try ATT in the US next week.
Other than the 3G issue, this phone very darn nice... way faster than the dream, Multitouch work's great ont the browser.
yeah, its really good.
Update: I gave fido a try and it seems to be working, but on HSPA.
I bought it locked to Telus, and got the unlock code from "UnlockMotoDroid"
My SIM card is one of the old GSM ones, but I already try the new 3G SIM Cards (kolby3g) and same problem, only EDGE data connection. APN and all that is correct.
pasker17, I'll love to hear if you find a solution. Keep me posted.
Ady, agree with you, other than the 3G issue, this phone is pretty awesome..!!! Hope I can find a fix soon. I'm wondering if this could be related to the HSPA+ advanced technology that might not be compatible here, but as far as I know it should be backwards compatible with any other 3G technology.
And also, I heard people is using it with AT&T no problems, 3G data speed. Do they have HSPA+ ?
Thanks for your help guys
AllI can tell you guys is ther eis something diffrent with Radio signal we are using here ( Canada ) and the one in South America, I been tryin to use Latam f/w on my stone and no signal aty all whatsoever , so th eother way around doesnt work , they must be something we are missing about network compatibility , 1 thing I am sure Telus 's 3g network is the new HSPA .
double post sry .
DAG,
Yes, maybe there is some sort of advanced HSPA+ network in Canada, and that might be the reason is not working in some other places.
But as far as I know, all those HSPA+ flavors, should be backwards compatible.
Now I wish Motorola frees the bootloeader and I can try it with some other custom ROM.

That wouldn't be it. If you the iPhone works in Costa Rica the Milestone should work.
Have you called ICE? From the very brief info I can find on how to get the iPhone to work in Costa Rica it almost appears that ICE itself has to approved the devices on its network. Apparently they have approved the iPhone. I assume they'd do it via IMEI

Yes and no, you do need to provide an IMEI to get your data plan working, but it should work with any device. I did it when I had a 3GS and have used my SIM on other phones and 3G works normally when setting my old apn. This is indeed bizarre
I called ICE, and went to their offices. Milestone is not
in the "approved list" so they won't even take a look. Same with the iPhones they work fine but are not "approved".
They already got my Milestone's IMEI registered on the system.
At the end they told me that this could be a software incompatibility but since the phone is not "in the approve list" there is nothing else to do or test for them.
Since this phone for sure supports 850mhz 3g band, I'm starting to think that it could be a software thing.
I'll be in the US in a couple of week and will try to test it on ATT, I heard a lot of people are using Canadian Milestone there with full 3G speeds

I take it you've tested known-working SIM cards and all (not only Kolbi ones), I know for a fact that mine works with APN: icecelular, if you care to give it a try with mine, let me know and we can arrange something. I really want to buy a Milestone and want to know if it works with 3g here or not
I've tested GSM Sim Cards (green and pink) and kolbi3g SIM cards, all of them with data enabled, not of them works with 3G data speed only EDGE.

OK then, if you've tested with apn:icecelular for the old GSM ones, and kolbi3g for the new ones, then I guess it's something specific to the phone, but this is extremely strange. :S

This, it will not work.
That model does not support the UMTS/HSPA bands used by T-Mobile (1700/2100). It supports 850/1900 (used by AT&T and several Canadian carriers).
Changing your ROM will not fix this. Flashing a T-Mobile radio will not fix this either - it's a hardware issue.
As it is quad band GSM you will get 2G service.

Not going to work as others said. Best is to sell, re-buy and cut your losses. Sorry.

that will never happen
you are better off returning it, and buying the proper model for AWS band (1700/2100)
I know the AT&T Samsung galaxy note was hacked to work on the 1700mhz T-mobile network. Can anyone tell me if this is feasible on for the unlocked international One S ?
We in the rest of the world uses WCDMA... you americans use CDMA... BIIIIIIG difference.
Thiesen, I guess you have a complete misconception there.
Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.
T-Mobile & AT&T use good ol' GSM/WCDMA, so if the phone has the right radio frequencies, it will work.
the hardware between the two devices are exactly the same right ??
So the only difference needed will be the correct radio in order for it to work ??
I have the international (UK) mine supports GSM / WCDMA - so if thats what TMOUS Uses, it shouldnt be a problem ?
The internation version doesn't have the 1700 AWS band (for T-Mobile) or the 1900 band (for AT&T).
No idea why HTC would suddenly eliminate the 1900 band, especially as it has always been present on their phones.
As far as I know, the Galaxy Note works on T-Mobile because it has always had the bands needed, they were just disabled. I guess the question is, does the international One S have the bands and they're disabled, or does it not have the bands at all?
The chip inside the phone is capable of all bands. the issue its turning them on.

Thanks
its a rom upgrade utility..
you download in in a .exe format, and your computer flashes the rom onto your phone.. Its a complete image including kernel, radio, rom, the lot.
there arent many ruu's available yet, as the phone has just been released.
