Gtablet positives with 2.04 - G Tablet General

Sure, we went for 2400-2500 to 1800-1900, but:
1. Battery lasts longer (for me anyway)
2. Stone Cold Steve Austin stable
3. Youtube & G4 client apps do work a little better than with 2.0
4. USB Storage is solid again
5. PSX4Droid still performs better than with 2.0
6. Flash video and other video files still perform better
7. Wifi tether seems to be more stable
8. Angry Birds Christmas addition was release today I am sure roebeet and wlawyer are happy
Next update that allows changing bluetooth inputs so Wiimote and other devices are easy to add and use would be a biggy in my book
added:
Maybe we could hack into VS site and post an easy install 2.04 FW package for the people

Question re #2: have you experienced more FC in 2.0.4 than 2.0.2?
Needless to say I'm truly grateful for roebeet's effort; I just want to make sure I didn't do anything stupid that causes all these FC (esp when I exit an app and get back to the home screen). Keep the ROM coming!

Deusdies,
You can get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
it is at the bottom of the first post on the first page. 2.1.0 is now being tested but 2.0.4 is available.

Go ahead robeet... take away my thunder,

Running CM 6.1 beta4. Any reason to try this?

I've been rocking 2.0.4 for a little over a day now (just got the tablet last night), and this has been awesome. I must say I continue to be impressed with this tablet, and while initially I thought it would just be a toy I wouldn't use much, I find that it's quite neat and very functional.
I installed rockplayer on it, and have reencoded a couple movies using handbrake (open source video encoder), and the xvid and h264 videos I've reencoded (just reencoded a dvd video) play smooth as butter. Only downside is the reencoding takes a while, but I guess I need a faster PC. I must say I'm thoroughly impressed with this tablet, as well as roebeet's work and everyone else's! I'm too busy tinkering and exploring the functions of this tablet to bother with upgrading to the newer version yet. The integration with Gallery to my picasa albums is just too cool. Big thanks again to everyone!

First off, roebeet is awesome!
Give 2.0.4 a few hours and watch out...
I have been rock solid for a week and moved to 2.0.4 and all hell broke loose...
Was stable all last night on 2.0.4 and when I turn on today it went sideways...
CF after CF after CF... email completely disappeared...

[ROM] Modded Super D with dwang's kernel

As I`ve posted before some code in most new kernels is causing some issues while using my car's handsfree set(vw) I get random disconnects.
So as I like Super D and I like latest dwang's rom. I mixed both of them and took the best of both roms. What you get with this rom is latest Super D with the best kernel that's working for me.
i don't take any credit from it, I'm sharing a good setup working for me. I just took all the work done by people involved in Super D and Dwang's rom. Apart from that I also included advanced launcher themed by eesel with cyanogen's tray shape.(thanks rogro82, cyanogen and eesel)
Link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V5H2P9IE
Trying will report back
thanks for sharing friend!
Edit:
1. Speed is good
2. Sometimes launcher lags in sweeping
3. No MT anywhere, well thats the Kernel thing
4. sign-in page force-closed on me many times but got over with that
5. Killing all the apps gives 60 MB free, wwhile on SD default kernel we get around 45 MB, this is great!
6. application response is very very quick
7. wall-paper gallery is older
Thats all for now....hope it helps those wanting to try this ...
Cheers,
I am not having those issues. Have you wiped everything before flashing? I didn't have any force close in the whole friday.
I have to research how to solve multi touch issue, because dwangs rom supports it
Wow, superb work. I may test it asap.
Hows battery life compared to stock SuperD? That was the thing put me away from Dwangs (and the random reboots).
Thankyou!
sounds interesting.

-no idea then, coz mine asked for re-inputting log-in information again and again. although everythhing was setup (meaning, synching was running while it was still bugging for signing in to google after I did it once)
Coming to your question, ya I always do full wipe, no matter what.
Your Mod definitely runs fast, congrates, and the force close is only stopped once you ignore signing in request and press Home button - done!
MT is an issue fr me, not that I use it while browsing web or Gallery very often but I like to have it for the sense of completeness
Good Job, I am now back to SupD tho.
P.S. Battery was not checked since I only stayed on this rom for less than an hour, not enough time right?
cheers
Battery life *seems* good so far
Multitouch is working indeed BUT not in the browser nor the photo gallery, I still have to look for more info. If you want to try it run MT visualizer. I 'm sure it's something about multitouch being handled in different way by donut or eclair.
I just flashed it without a wipe.
It works fine for me so far, but it should be mentioned that it is the white version
But i like suprising graphical changes

60 MB free? "
It use ramhack, compcache and swap?
BTW.. seriously.. The kernel have ramhack, right?
Now I'm using the rom SuperCSDI V1, and with the SupSetup I can turn on or off APP2SD.
I think it's a great thing, because installing apps on NAND they run a lot faaaaaaaaaaster! So I install default apps in NAND, and other apps in ext partition.
If I found a way to do it in this rom, I'll try it
PS: If you don't use compcache or swap and it have 60mb free on killing.. ramhack can be removed to use 3D application

OMG i have the same exact issue with the random disconnecting. its been prevalent in every rom since cyan's 4.2.6 (and dwangs, super D, etc). I've tried pushing the older working "bluetooth.apk" from 4.2.6 to the newer builds with no success at all. Did you recompile the ROM to make it work? The perfect ROM to me would be Super D 1.9.2 with no ram hack and working bluetooth.
good work though, im willing to sacrifice 3D games for working bluetooth though so i may give this a run... *subscribed!*

nice Rom, but it only has 3 screens, and i don't like the launcher. Despite those things its great, i did a few tests

highest - 1084

What hands free set do you use?
I've read that you can solve it by editing /etc/bluez/audio.conf as follow
enable=
Disable=Headset,Gateway,Source,Control,Sink
uncoment #Master=true and replace it by Master=False (mind the caps)
It's working for BMW sets, give it a try may be you can keep 3d.

[SUPER Fast][Phone.apk NO LAG]Holy Crap! Who's rom is this?! Hero2.1 (2.1 + SenseUI)

Edit 5/18/2010
FIRST PUBLIC BETA OF MY EDITS TO THIS ROM ARE OUT! CHECK THEM OUT HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6518000
Mods! Please close this thread! PLEASE do not post in this thread about my Beta! I don't need to be tracking 2 threads!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Browsing Google for new roms to check out, review and breakdown for my own learning pleasure, I stumbled across this hero rom of Android 2.1 with SenseUI.
http://www.4shared.com/file/163848444/8c7602ca/Hero_21.html
Tried to google search the archive name as well as the full 4shared link but couldn't find any articles about it anywhere. (If you know where its from let me know!)
Flashed it on my 32B Magic (MyTouch). This rom is INCREDIBLE. Booted up from flash to setup in less than 3 minutes, everything in setup ran smoothly and quickly (with one exception, I'll note below).
This is SO FAST, right off the bat, no SetCPU, no nothing, AND THE PHONE COMES UP INSTANTLY WHEN RECEIVING A CALL! No force closes so far, no non responding apps, NOTHING.
I've found 2 problems with the rom - Gmail setup can't seem to find a data connection (but the browser and IM clients do - weird? is this a CDMA rom? How do I check?) and the homescreen reboots anytime you hit the "Home" button - but it only takes a second or two to finish. I'm going to fly spare parts onto it and see if I can keep home in memory.
If anyone knows who's rom this is, let me know! Also, if it IS a CDMA rom, can someone port it to GSM? About Phone says this is the HTC Hero, but the Kernel says it is "Unavailable".
TRY THIS ROM, ITS AWESOME! If I can get gmail to work and the home app to stay in memory this will be my daily rom until CR brings his Slide rom out of beta and it runs this fast.
EDIT: Doing some testing, results of set 1
Comes with SU installed and working.
Text messages - working
Sense Widgets - working
Phone calls (in and outbound) - working and SUPER fast, there's NO lag!
NO CAMERA!
wifi - broken? says its unable to start
bluetooth - same as wifi
Gmail - broken? Can't get a data connection to gmail
Market - not working, because I can't get into gmail :-(
Browser - working, browsing the web as we speak
Keyboard - working (HTC_IME with no lag or weird ram-hack like problems.)
SetCPU (installed through adb) - installed and now this thing is just... I mean, there's no words for it. its fast. its really fast.
-----------------------------------------------
I'm working on building off of this rom - but I'm not copying and pasting in a ktichen, I'm actually working to rewrite code, replacing drivers, updating with a new kernel and above all else, making the apps work together. Right now I'm working to fix sync and make the prgram list actually display all the installed apps. This is tedious work, but Ill update you guys on my progress as it happens. I think this is a great rom to build off of because from the start, its super fast and as long as I keep speed in mind as I work on the rom, I think the end result will be a good one. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them, both for fixes and modifications to this rom. I'm new to android development so I'm doing a hell of a lot of reading right now but I'm a 8 year programmer and do it for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, so it's not like programming is new to me - just the android side of it. I'd like to thank Cyanogen fo his wealth of tutorials, repositories, and tips because most of the stuff I'm reading and learning was written by him.
Bugfix log for NEXT release (NOT THE CURRENT ONE!)
Facebook App and sync - fixed
Camera/Video
Wifi
Widgets (they don't all appear in the add widget list)
Google sync - Partially fixed... still working on it
App list not showing all installed apps - Working on it, still don't have any idea why its happening but I will find out if it kills me

[5/9/10] On the google sync issue - I originally thought it was a Hero caching problem, having found a ton of information of this happening on stock hero devices, but it turns out it wasn't. In the process of discovering this, I've also found out why the installed apps don't show in the Rosie app list. Its a bug with how this rom was built in SDK version 6, when the original Hero rom from HTC was build in 7, it was backported (not sure if I have the correct terminology there), breaking a few things. I'm going to recompile in 7, fix the system date format (which is also causing an error in the Google sync) and hopefully get sync working, then I can start looking at other minor bugs and optimization.
-----------------------------------------------
PS - somebody find out where this rom came from so I can give proper credit to the original developer(s)!!!
Edit: I'm told this is Drizzy's original Hero 2.1 (Thanks Chris!) with broken drivers. I'm going to try to contact Eugene to see what modifications he made and also check through online documentation to figure driver **** out. Props to Drizzy/Eugene - this build may be more or less broken (well, it was your first and you had plenty of updates to it since then) but damn, nice job on such a fast rom, its awesome even for alpha.
im a little scared to try it...so i wont zackattacks 2.1 1.1 hero is fast enough and stable enough for me right now.

Could be - but I don't think so, this thing is old, uploaded last year, I can't get ZX's 2.1 hero to work and I haven't seen a ZX Team update on their 2.1 Sense threads on here or on androidspin, plus this one has a ton of extra features, like the animated browser progress bar from the original espresso rom.

Update 3389 Speed Degradation After the Tablet Sleeps

While update 3053 (December 10) gave me a tremendous improvement in speed and stability, I noticed that after update 3389 (December 23) my tablet appears to be affected with some sort of speed degradation when it comes out of an extended sleep period. Short sleep periods do not appear so far to affect it.
I already had this happen twice out of two tries. The best place for me to see this is when I attempt to use gestures in Dolphin Browser HD v4.2. The browser does not follow my finger as I draw the gesture. Instead of the gesture I draw on the screen I just get random lines.
I can also see a difference in how the TnT app drawer opens and how my screen taps are detected in general or how a website scrolls on the screen.
A power OFF power ON fixes this until the next extended sleep period. In my case the extended sleep period was a couple of hours.

I saw a post last conjecturing that there's a governor, so I did some Googling and found:
http://tegradeveloper.nvidia.com/tegra/forum/cpufreq-tegrastats
I checked on my Gtab, still on older stock TNT, and min freq was 216000 vs. Max 1000000. Maybe if min freq was set to 1000000, you wouldn't see the slowdown?

Download an app called advanced task killer. Kill all the apps that randomly pop on to phone home... Speed restored for me at least...
One of the devs recommended using Autostarts to kill all instances of Calendar. Seems to have done the trick for me.
-=Sent from my VS GTablet (VEGAn b4) using Tapatalk=-
This issue has affected ZPad and now Vegan ROM too for some time, so it's not just in the new 3389 update. However, it happened only infrequently in Vegan beta3 and happens all the time in Vegan beta4, and according to the TNT Lite thread, it is happening more with TNT Lite 3.1.0 to many people too.
And apparently it's affecting the new 3389 update more too, based on this thread.
In Vegan beta4, blocking the Calendar process with Autostarts doesn't change the issue at all for me, though Rothnic and others said that fixed the issue in Vegan beta3.
Vegan beta4 and the 3389 update and TNT Lite 3.1.0 all share the same new kernel I believe. I suspect that some change in the new kernel compile by Tap N Tap has made the problem worse. Just a guess though.

Kernel is the same, that's correct. It's probably a good place to start and I suspect even stock is affected. One step forward, two steps back?
I use a Startup Manager, as well. Lots of the gapps like to start up in memory, on boot. On my old Pandigital build, I would actually delete any apks that I didn't use.
Maybe someone who has 3389 can try setting those min freq values mentioned in #2?
It's pretty easy using su/term.

Jim, I have been using Overclock Widget to set min 512000/max 1000000 for some time now. The short answer is that it doesn't make a bit of difference to the lag-on-wake problem. I haven't tried 1000000/1000000 for any extended period of time because I suspect it will drain battery pretty fast.
Just some observations and suggestions...
I've been reading posts all morning about 3389 speed degregation and other issues. For me, I installed TnT Lite 3.1 cleanly last night, and I haven't seen any of the issues being reported. My camera works fine. My gtab comes out of sleep and connects to wifi ready for use. Although, I don't use live wallpaper, but Roebeet already said he will address this issue. The only reported issue I see is the Market stars being cut off, which is a known issue with the Tnt Framework. To my pleasure, everything else for me is working just fine.
Last night, my gtab was slow for a while because of the SD scan (I do agree it does take a long time). This morning, I have been taking my gtab in and out of sleep with no issues or speed degregation to report.
I see folks constantly asking Roebeet if they need to do a data wipe to install the updated custom package. The rule of thumb should be yes. It doesn't take long to restore everything. The longest time is to restore the applications from Titanium Backup, and for me with close to 50 applications it only takes 15 minutes or so to complete. I always do a data wipe (factory reset), cache wipe, and dalvik clean, etc. before I install the custom update unless otherwise stated by Roebeet. My suggestion is if you haven't done so is to do a full clean install.

Hi,
Thanks. I'm new to Android, but not to *nix, so was just curious. It may be that VS disabled or didn't include the governors in their kernel? I guess you/we won't know until they provide kernel source, and hopefully their build parameters...

I didn't seem to have the issue until I installed the gapps. How do I uninstall the gapps, can I just reapply the 3389 update zip?
Edit: I will admit that I didn't have 3389 on very long before adding the gapps but I am pretty sure I had at least one sleep cycle in there somewhere. I have never seen this lag before on prior VS updates though and it is pretty annoying.

I downloaded your enhancement pack and installed as you suggested. I lost:
ES file manager
android apps
viewsonic g market
Talk
PHotos
Angry Birds is present but I have lost all of my user data.
The speed seems to be a little faster than pure stock was but as I understand your post the enhancement pack was supposed to simiply add the speed features and the android market on top of the 3389 update. Any idea on how to correct this?

Right this does remove a few things that tnt lite removes. It also replaces some apps. Most of the apps you list you can download from the official Google market that it installs. It also installs galley 3d, which is a better photo app. The viewsonic market isn't needed when you have the Google one.
Also, it doesn't touch user data.

I'm pretty sure that it is the calendar and maybe contacts sync from Google. I don't include those in the tnt enhancement pack, so I think it may be immune.
You could reinstall 3389, then install the enhancement pack.

Is this something a user has to do every time the performance degrades? I'd rather have Viewsonic fix it.

I have a stock tablet, so your suspicion is good. Viewsonic needs to fix this promptly.

I do not have gapps installed. My tablet is stock 3389.
I have just done described in post #2 using the terminal and su. Fortunately path do match, so it was matter of typing it in.
Off to pick up few groceries, an will report if that worked. I wonder if we have to do this everytime when you reboot?

[ROM] VegaComb BETA 1.7 - by TeamNewCo and TeamVillain

Welcome To VegaComb BETA 1.7!
Apologies that this has been so long in the making, I haven't been sitting idly by, but real-life responsibilities mean that I don't have anywhere near the time to work on the Vega as I once did. BUT, we are ready for a BETA 1.7 release! So, without further ado, here is what I can remember of the changelog:
Rebel1's 3G patch is now built-in to this build by default.
The /data/tombstones folder will now be automatically cleared out every reboot, to try and avoid it devouring all of your available /data space. This is a stop-gap until I can fix the problem fully.
The default Browser has been edited to remove the Asus homepage and replace it with Google, also TabletRoms.com has been added as the first bookmark.
Default dictionaries have been added to the default keyboard by popular demand! Languages are: En, De, Cs, Es, Fr, It and Nl. You will have to enable dictionary suggestions in the Keyboard settings to see these.
Default system wallpaper has been changed from the boring blue stock Honeycomb one to a much nicer abstract wallpaper.
A whole multitude of wallpapers have been added to the built-in Wallpaper-Picker, this is a mix of the nicest wallpapers I could find from the Acer Iconia, the Asus Transformer, the Motorola Xoom and some custom ones from around the net!
The Youtube app has been re-hacked to dramatically increase the quality of videos. The HQ option now works correctly to switch between high and low quality, and (while not 720p) the higher setting is VERY crisp and clear compared to before.
FLASH! Ahhhhahahahhh (think Queen). download the OFFICIAL flash player from the market (10.3 currently), download Opera Mobile from the market, watch flash. Simples. Green bar glitching, ghosting and other flash strangeness should now have been all fixed. Flash video can still be a little jerky as it is being rendered in software, overclock to get around this if you feel you have to (but it does work well at the default speed!)! BIG thanks to brucelee666 for this, when my transfer cable broke, he picked up and did a ton of testing to get this working!
Brand new (extra shiny) boot animation has been added. HUGE thanks to ThinkDevoid from the TabletROMs team for creating this for me!
The required default /system partition size for all future VegaComb releases is 155mb, we now have much more room to play with which removed a HUGE limitation that was actively holding me back!
More? Who knows, my memory is crappy
Before you update using either the 1.6-1.7 upgrade patch, or install 1.7 from scratch, you MUST be running my new ModdedStock base as this increases the /system partition size to make VegaComb BETA 1.7 fit. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS THE INSTALL WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY AND YOU WILL SOFTBRICK YOUR VEGA! Please fully read the ModdedStock thread to make sure you understand how this works!
I have been working HEAVILY in conjunction with MrGuy of TabletROMs now for a while, and especially on BETA 1.7 (Thank him for many things including the awesome YouTube app hack). Together we have now not only updated VegaComb, but now AdamComb as well for the NotionInk Adam. Vega owners owe a lot to MrGuy, so show him your love people!
Update notes from previous versions:
Code:
[I]Previous Notes:[/I]
[B]Changes in BETA1.6:[/B]
Spare Parts settings fixed - Setting power button to "Home, then sleep" now works correctly.
Bluetooth should now correctly turn on and pair "out of the box" without tweaking.
DPI settings have been changed. The default DPI is still 120, but you can now manually set this to 160 if you wish, unfortunately though the Google Apps will not function correctly at this density (although most other apps should now be fine).
Youtube app has been hacked (thanks to MrGuy for wokring with me for this!) to disable HQ playback by default on all videos. This should now mean that you can play all YouTube vids through the app. The HQ button is still there, but if you select it, the video will not play.
Default CPU speed set to 1.2ghz instead of 1ghz as there appears to be some strange speed issues when defaulted to 1ghz.
Fixed an issue where you needed root to read contents of NTFS drives.
Added OpenVPN support (thanks to Scanno!)
Hopefully fixed any lingering 3G issues (thanks to rebel1!)
Possible fix to GPS issues but this cannot be tested by me (unfortunately!).
Added a seperate download for an EXPERIMENTAL FlashPlayer hack. This hack unfortunately does not fix flash video playback on most sites (YouTube and BBC iPlayer do not work for example, but the small videos on the Yahoo news website do). What this hack DOES fix, is most other Flash applications, such as web games etc. Using this patched version of Flash, Kongregate Arcade should work correctly, as well as other apps such as Zoodles Kid Mode that use flash within the application to play games. Please use this at your own risk and report the results! Trying to play flash video using this patched version WILL crash your browser, you have been warned ;)
Added an animated VegaComb boot screen.
Possible speed increases due to various changes to the init + memory management tweaks.[B]EDIT: Apparently, this has caused a much more significant speed increase than was expected, 1.6 has been reported to be VERY fast! :)[/B]
[B]VegaComb BETA 1.5.2 Patch![/B]
Small patch to apply over the top of 1.5.1 (ONLY to be used on 1.5.1) which fixes Root (for people who upgraded) and App2SD for everyone. Link at the bottom of the thread!
[B]VegaComb BETA 1.5.1 Patch![/B]
This patch simply fixes a small issue with Wifi in 1.5, you can use the 1.4to1.5.1 patch to either upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5.1, or to patch 1.5 to 1.5.1 if you had already flashed it and have the issue :) Apologies for the bug!
[B]Welcome to VegaComb BETA 1.5![/B]
Hello all! We are back, as promised! The release cycle is slowing down a little now as expected, but we still have some damn juicy treats for you in the BETA 1.5 package :) So, without mucking about, here is what's changed since 1.4:
Speed... I spoke about this a little in the [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMqeqcRh5pM"]development update I put on youtube[/URL], but just to clarify here... We were not happy with the overall speed of the ROM in BETA 1.4. While repairing the stability issues in 1.3, we went a little overboard with "safe" settings, making 1.4 rock solid, but noticeably slower than previous releases. We didn't want to reach a "happy medium" with part-speed and part stability... and so, there has been a full review of all the memory settings, testing dozens of combinations until we reached a setup that offers both impressive speed (at least the speed of 1.3 IMO) without (hopefully!) any of the reliability drawbacks. And so, our hope is that 1.5 will be both the fastest, AND most stable release so far!
Bluetooth should now be fully working, searching and pairing has been tested with several devices, so pair away!
The Screenshot option in the Display section of Settings was causing Force Closes, this is now fixed, so you can take screenshots of your VegaComb tablet in action :)
The 3G APN (and related) settings should now be correctly visible in the settings menu, for those of you with 3G cards.
Issue which was causing the Launcher to sometimes Force Close on boot should now be fixed.
Problem with the media scanner not correctly locating music on the MicroSD card is now resolved.
Overclock increased back to a maximum of 1.5ghz.
Xpad support should now be available again (to connect Xbox pads over USB).
The Dreaded blue light of DOOM under the camera has been banished to the fourth dimension of hell.
Force Close problem when downloading from the stock browser or Gmail/Email apps should now be fixed.
Force close that was sometimes plaguing the recent apps menu should now be fixed.
Google maps framework has been added. this was previously causing certain apps (such as Tweetdeck) to immediately force close when you logged in. These apps should now be working correctly.
We have had a whip-around and provided the Honeycombs on the boot screen with an extra face each (PHEW! Pedants, move along, nothing to see here :P)
Shutdown menu has now been put in place (thanks to the AMAZING work of HomerSp), it is not the ordinary power menu, but a lovely custom one that provides you with the options for: Home, Shut Down, Reboot and Reboot to Recovery!
Because of the new shutdown menu, the recovery reboot app has now been removed (not needed!).
Added working screen calibration app. This will help with most issues (like home/back buttons) but does not fix the top-of-screen sensitivity issue as of yet I'm afraid!
App drawer has been edited to remove the bottom row of icons, so you can now better access the screen previews below them when placing a shortcut :)
Again, there may be other stuff that was fixed and forgotten :P Let us know if you find anything!
[B][I]I also want to make an important note for those who are confused... I am NOT working on this ROM alone, this has been a group effort from the start. Originally worked on by myself and Corvus (with help from the guys here at TabletROMS. Since then we hooked up with HomerSp (LEGEND!) who does magic things with Android that I really don't understand (some say he's a clone grown at google), and the project has moved in leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, Corvus has recently been forced to back out of this project due to time limitations in his real life, with work and family, so now it is primarily myself and Homer who work on VegaComb. I hope this clears things up, credit where credit is due![/I][/B]
[b]Welcome to VegaComb BETA 1.4 - Codename: Arnold Veganator (Hasta La Vista Processes)![/b]
As promised! BETA 1.3 was more of a features update, trying to get the ROM more in-line with where we would like it giong forwards, cleaning up files, opimizing and getting as much as possible working. We realized at that time that tehre were memory issues with the build, but we are trying to take a modulated approach to developing this ROM, so one step at a time :)
1.4 is primarily a performance release. You won't see any HUGE new features here (other than Huawei 3g support, thanks to rebel1!) but a lot has gone on in the background to try and make this ROM useable as your daily OS. Memory values have been tweaked, the kernel has been re-compiled with HoneyComb specifically in mind and (hopefully!) all of the freezes and hard lockups present in 1.3 have now been eradicated.
[b]Changes in BETA 1.4[/b]:
Kernel has been recompiled from scratch (thanks to @HomerSp!) gearing it for HoneyComb. [I]Some features such as xpad support are not yet present in this kernel, they will be added back in soon, but there shouldn't be much other than that.[/I]
Kernel bug that was preventing lowmemorykiller from working effectively has been fixed in this build.
Memory tweaks made in init to values better suited to both the Vega and to Honeycomb.
CPU clocking now defaults to 1ghz instead of 1.5, the top-end has been lowered down to 1.4 for now (this will be put back to 1.5 hopefully in the next release). Install SetCPU (from XDA) or download CPU Master from the market (free) to overclock if you want.
Support for Huawei 3G dongles added (HUGE thanks to rebel1 for this patch!) - this has NOT been tested as of yet, as I don't own a 3g dongle! :P
EGL patch tweaked slightly taking a new approach, hopefully making this simpler to manage in the future.
The issue where the battery indicator was not updating correctly MAY be fixed in this build (not 100% confirmed yet)
Replaced an icon I missed when the BACK button is pressed (oops!)
Adjusted a couple of apps to save some space in /system.
[I]Please make sure you ask for help and post bugs in the threads provided, I am getting WAY too many PM's to answer them all (sorry, don't take it personally!).[/I]
[B]Changes in BETA 1.3[/B]
Switched to Transformer Frameworks - Better fit for our hardware and to stay in line with what the Adam guys are doing.
New frameworks are more streamlined, should make the UI feel snappier overall.
Framework edited which should allow all web related apps to render correctly (not flash)!
[i]This means that you can now use browsers you download from the market like Miren and Dolphin, and news readers such as Pulse will now work.[/i]
Wifi issue that caused you to need to reboot after the first flash before Wifi would turn on is now fixed. You can connect straight away after flashing the ROM!
Corporate email setup added to Accounts & sync (all security settings work correctly, but remote wipe does not factory restet the device as of yet, but is does disconnect the emails).
Screenshot function added (select in Settings > Display). You can take screenshots by long-press of the Recent Apps softkey.
The Calendar app is back from Vacation and ready to organize your life.
The Books app has gotten over it's shyness and now shouldn't dissapear shortly after boot. This is still slightly strange so it might go walkies if you don't pin it down :/
Working Recovery Reboot app added, this one works so you no longer need gscript to reboot to recovery! (thanks to Paul O'Brien for this app!)
VegaComb Beta simple boot logo added.
REALLY annoying black fade on the right-side when using the notifications popup has been removed as it refused to display correctly.
MicroSD card now correctly displays as what it is, instead of showing as Internal USB storage.
Moving apps to the MicroSD should now work correctly, and apps launch fine, even if you have USB debugging turned on.
USB external storage now shows correctly, and gives a notification when it is plugged in (you can click on the notification to browse files or dismount the USB storage).
Can now correctly mount FAT, EXT and NTFS USB storage and browse through the file browser.
When you connect the Vega to the PC with your USB cable, you now get a notification allowing you to mount your SD card over the USB to share your files!
Doubled the ammount of memory that was available to apps in order to try and combat some of the freeze-up issues (MAKE SURE YOU WIPE DALVIK CACHE WHEN YOU INSTALL THIS BETA!)
Other stuff I've forgotten again :/
[B]Welcome to VegaComb BETA1a[/B]...
1a release is a very small patch to the installer script to make sure everything is installed correctly!
[B]What's new in BETA1?[/B]
This is a HUGELY new build, and has required a ton of testing, so please bear this in mind :P
Files have been streamlined and some slowdown bugs should have been fixed, you should see a nice little speed increase in this build.
SuperUser is FINALLY fixed! [B]No... I really mean it this time :P[/B]
WiFi has been patched. You will still have to reboot as it will lock the first time you try to turn it on, but after that it should be much more stable than before, and shouldn't require you to toggle WiFi on/off all the damn time.
The Dolby Audio section in the Settings menu was causing Force Close errors, so this has now been removed from the menu completely.
Web browser has been hacked to prevent you having to disable EGL rendering in order for it to work.
Gmail and Email apps have been FIXED. You can now read your emails in both apps, they should be working perfectly as far as I have tested.
Bluetooth libs and binaries have been added. Bluetooth now turns on without any errors, but I cannot yet confirm if it actually works. If someone tests this, please let me know!
WiFi has been patched to connect correctly to ad-hoc networks. So you can now tether your Vega to a phone such as the HTC Hero.
The whole image has been SHRUNK (massively) to fit into the Vega's default partition size. It's a hell of a squeeze, and some apps have had to be pushed to /data to make it fit. All of these are apps that can be re-downloaded from the market like maps etc) other than two, the Android keyboard (it's a huge file :P) and the Android Music app. If you prefer to use a different keyboard, you can remove this one, but if you wipe /data, you will have NO keyboard installed, and the world might implode :P
This is now a ClockworkMod image, designed to be used on the Vega's default partition tables, so DO NOT flash this over the top of ALPHA4. Re-flash 1.09 (or some other standard image) before installing this through CWM. You now have a healthy 293mb to play with in /data, so you can download stuff off the market without worrying like in ALPHA4 :)
OK, LOTS more stuff has changed, but I can't remember a lot of it, I'm sure it will come back to me, but my brain is a little fried right now and I need a beer :P
[B]Updates from ALPHA4:[/B]
Gapps WORKING! (Huge effort on IRC, big thanks to MrGuy!)
NTFS usb drives should now be detected in host mode (not tested)
Moved some apps to /data and shrunk the /system partition to 260mb to give you some more space now that the market works!
3D Photo Browser, Books, Maps, Youtube, Google Talk and Music Apps moved to /data (you can uninstall them from there to save space, if you wipe data/factory reset you will lose them!)
Browser patched to turn off EGL rendering by default, so no more need to use about:debug anymore.
SuperUser fixed!! (Hopefully properly this time! :P) [B](ONLY JOKING I BROKE IT AGAIN! :P)[/B]
Other stuff I've forgotten :P
[B]Updates fromAlpha3:[/B]
SD Card is now detected
Audio fixed (HomerSp, legend :) )
WiFi Fixed (Guess who? :P ) (This is still buggy, the first time you turn it on, it will not work. Reboot, then try again. Sometimes need to toggle on/off to get it running)
G-Sensor fixed (yup, you can rotate happily now!)
Bottom-Bar Home button fixed.
Lock screen added.
Hardware buttons now work, power to sleep/wakeup etc.
Added Spare Parts, you can set power to home/sleep.
Root and Superuser added (you should be able to use CPU tools to overclock now). [B][I](WHOOPS I BROKE THIS! SEE BELOW ON HOW TO FIX!)[/I][/B]
Bunch of changes in build.prop
More updated libs and binaries than you can shake a llama at.
[B]Initial Features from Alpha1:[/B]
It boots!
Hardware Acceleration!
Widgets.
Most (not tested) android apps should run.
What doesn't work (updated as of 1.7):
Camera Still FC.
Flash player doesn't work in apps or in the default browser (Opera Mobile only!)
Battery indicator doesn't always update correctly (wipe battery stats tog et around this).
Audio has been reported as "Tinny" - we are looking in to this.
Factory reset (and remote exchange wiping) not working.
Cannot connect to PEAP Wifi networks.
We will keep working on this!
CREDITS!
Myself and Corvus have put a whole ton of work in to this, but there are others who deserve praise for all of their work:
HomerSp, for his brilliant work on fixing the Hardware acceleration, sound, wifi, the world, curing cancer and generally being awesome!
The guys working on the NotionInk Adam port here at TabletROMs - They have helped us a LOT both with their original port to use as a base, and a wealth of help they have given us on IRC to get this working, our original port was based on files from the SDK, Xoom and Transformer, we are now completely basing our work on their amazing ROM (which is based on the Transformer and Iconia) Thanks guys!.
MrGuy has worked with me extensively on version 1.7 (and with lots of parts before!), so HUGE thanks to him!
Lenny from VillainROM. Lenny has pretty much tested and approved EVERY build of VC to date, given opinions and hilighted bugs. Thanks a lot man!

cool intersting times ahead! good luck on port, hopefully 3.0 sourcecode out sometime soon
In the title it says xoom(ish) port but it looks more like a transformer port in the video? Either way Honeycoooooomb! Good luck guys
Good luck and keep up the good job!
It is a mix of all 3. SDK, Transformer and Xoom. I took a few libs from the Xoom, as well as a ton of stuff from the Adam Transformer port and the SDK files factored in too. It's kind of a Frankenstein-monster effect going on Changed the title to reflect this!
Cool, great work. Am pretty certain the source will actually be released soon. Googles i/o is on tuesday and am sure this is when they are gunner announce or hopefully release the source for honeycomb, or possibly icecream, which will be a mashup of gingerbread and honeycomb am sure.
So hopefully that will help getting honeycomb onto the vega
Well done guys, keep the good work going.

FRESH TODAY 9th May 2011 11:30AM EDT
Cross collaboration between devs of sister tablets in the ##adamroot freenode IRC channel this morning!
Devs: HomerSp got hardware acceleration working, newbe5 got it working on the Advent Vega (video demo below) and DJ_Steve applied them to the Adam HC rom and confirmed to now be working smoothly!
9th May 2011 12:05 EDT
DJ_Steve showsoff hardware acceleration implementation on Notioink Adam.
I encourage guys, let's take the VEGA to infinity and beyond
your second video looks pretty smooth any reason why a dev only download isnt appropriate ? not pushing this is amaing work you must have great patience just intrigued
Curious to know how much space is left for app install after Honeycomb is put on the vega???

I'm staggered at how smooth H/C is from the video!
I did try but i had a falling out with nvflash so i'll look forward to a update.zip I can use, I assume when wifi is working!
I did spy from the video there didn't seem to be any gApps, I assume this will be added unless there is a seperately gApps download for H/C?

hopefully honeycomb sourcecode released at todays event at 5 oc'lock london time, who nows we might even get an update from advent or pov.

i'd be surprised tbh!
I was under the impression from Advent we would be getting 2.3 and the source code has been out for quite some time and still nothing. yet you can get a CM nightly which is 2.3.4.
Unless they've had access to the H/C as a vendor and been working on that but some how i doubt it :S
Wow, a mention on the front page!
Congrats on this, guys!
Wow. Does this mean hardware acceleration may make its way into other Android devices? I hope so!

[ROM] Ainol Novo 8 Adv 2.3.4 Root UK V4.0 (NEW 15/04/12)

Very necro update March 2021:
All versions of this ROM are now stored on my personal site and can be found here:
Ainol Novo 8 Advanced Firmware Downloads
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A long time coming but Release 4.0 is now here
Site Link:NebularNerd.com
To save keep opening new threads I shall now just update this one to reflect the latest release. The main reason for the delay was waiting to find a firmware to base it on that offered something more than just a minor update.
To keep things short and sweet the full Readme will now be kept on a separate page on my blog Click Here and a plain text copy is in the download. Check out the Change log/What's New below then get your download and enjoy. Screen shots after the download links.
Posts #70 onwards for support on this release
Change log/What's New:
Key: + New # Updated > Information ! Important - Removed
07/04/2012 Version 4.0
+ Newer base firmware based on cheeyee and tomx2h releases.
! English only release, Multi Language may follow
! Google Maps will Force Close if you have no active Wifi or Data connection, this is the way the app works and not a bug.
- Flash and Skype removed as they only semi worked. You can install these from the market.
+ Modified Google Play Store gives the best results yet. Still not perfect but improves on last firmware.
! Play Store must not be updated, auto updater removed to prevent this. Any updates will remove the modded version.
+ build.prop altered with HTC Flyer data (closest match to our tablet) again results have improved in the Market.
# All included Google Apps, Facebook and Dolphin are latest versions as of compliling the Firmware
- Root explorer because it would still give Chinese menus, ES File Manager is just as good when given root access rights.
+ New Statusbar icons for Home, Menu, Up, Down and Back (See screenshots)
# The wallpaper app that was in Chinese I have converted to English, look for 'ICS Wallpapers'
- Separate Latitude.apk (now comes with Maps) and Car Home (Too small for our screens)
> For UK users iPlayer and latest Flash seem to play Medium quality streams without any problems, High quality is broken in iPlayer by the looks of it as setting it makes no difference over Medium.

amazing job.
i assume power off and sudden power on screen is not fixed yet because of hardware bug?
Will try and give my cents later today. THANKS , great job.
Thanks, great job!!!!
One question
have you fixed the power off bug
Huawei e220 and bluetooth
Hello. First of all, congratulations for the nice work!
I´m wondering if anyone managed to make Huawei e220 modem work on this rom. If so, please send the instructions.
Another thing that would be important on further updates is to make bluetooth hardware work on our Novo8 or also a external dongle.
Bye!

theres a workaround.. you need the "screen off timer" to 15secs.
Make it sleep. power on normally. immediately upon you unlock the screen, poweroff like you normally do. it works most of the times like that for me.
D
Bluetooth would be great

I am looking into the whole Bluetooth thing as it's something I would quite like to have running as well, on some of the other forums there is some Bluetooth stuff being worked on so I need to look and see what that is about and if I can use it.
Huawei e220 IS working!!!
Hehe, something is def. done with the power control. i can "easily" power it off now when the powercord is plugged in. But it immediately starts up again.
power off works and stays off without power cord. plug cord in and it powers on.
first cents.
thanks for fb, and dolphin! Why not make ES FileExplorer standard too?
Trying not to bloat the rom, and new base firmware

I left ES out as it can be downloaded from the market, while it is my preferred file manager other may want something else so I'm trying to not overload the rom. To most people having the stock File Explorer and Root Explorer is likely enough. Facebook, Dolphin and Skype were added because like some of the Google apps they cannot be had off the market but are near enough essential to daily tablet usage.
*** NEWS FLASH ***
I have just managed to download the latest beta from the Chinese sites, took a while to work out how to do get it off their chosen download host, need to add learning Chinese to my todo list
I shall start playing with this new firmware and see how it behaves, who knows what that will bring us.
*** NEWS FLASH ***
Ok, so yesterday while falling asleep i looked at latest topgear.
New in this rom, is that every five ten minutes, the "power off" dialog pops up.
Any idea how come? Also while playing games it pops up every now and then now. didnt in the earlier rom.
Also , when i started skype it said "Skype must be reinstalled" and i was never able to log in.
Exciting about new beta! Crazy stuff.

V2 install yesterday, and today I learned that in China have released a new version.
It has some bugs that you've fixed in V2, so I think you can pick your version of china and improve it.
I encourage you.
Thank you very much for making us enjoy both.
Feedback
A little feedback ROMs:
concerns:
First, after installing programs, I'm having problems ("com.androi.settings process stopped") to access Settings-App Manager. The same happens with the time zone setting. I tried reinstalling, but it continues going after the installation of any problem.
I am also having problems with skype ("resinstall skype").
Another question is about the graphics processing. Although our tablet has enough technology, games like Spiderman and Real footbal run without the proper rendering.
I think that ultimately, the ROM should not come with installed applications, it can easily be found through the Aptoide.
Moreover, the ROM is good, with few delays in Appmenu and tablet features working except bluetooth, but this is a problem of its own original ROM and still no solution proposed.
Keep the good work!
The ChinaDigital-mirror is broken (get a 44MB file every time).
Replies to all,
Regarding Skype issues, is this cropping up as soon as you are running Skype or after name and password entry. I do not have a Skype account so could not fully test, I shall add it onto the fix list for the next version.

Thaks for the heads up I shall get onto rikeys and see what's doing. I should have another Mirror or two coming up any time soon.
daniel.eriksson:
The Power dialog is a weird on, everytime I flash it appears either more or less than before, hopefully the new beta has some fixes.
educuritiba:
Are you trying to change to another language? I've not ran into issues with Settings myself and did try changing languages around before release, if not please let me know what it is you are doing that leads to the FC.
App bundling is a tricky one to win, while those of us more skilled in the ways of the internet and things we can easily grab an apk to stick on, not everyone can or they prefer a all-in-one flash and be done solution. I'm not looking to stick anything on that can be had off the market and equally nothing that is not free for but things like Skype, Facebook and Dolphin are what I consider for most people must haves. Maybe for the next release I will bundle a working set of .apk's for people to install post flash.
Oberth, you are right. Those problems in settings only happen when the language is not english ( I am trying portuguese br).
Keep the good working in the next releases!!!
Bye
Yesterday I install the latest version to come out of China and is a wonder. Very stable and if no delay. The problem is that in Chinese and English is not complete. Would be nice if the Chinese were also multilingual and that all people around the world have this tablet. Bad for them.
I think that you would work with this version because it goes very very well.

Thank you for your work from Spain.
hi, the rom is very good!
i change only the task bar to a another smaller.
a question:
what resolution u use?
how row and coluns in launcher u use?
to assist videos in 1080p, u use a standart video player or a mx video?
in the mx 1080p movies are slow, same in S/W fast.
im from brazil, and the rom is the best!

Hi Tobituba, Resolution is set at 160dpi which is 1280x768 (what the screen is) at 160dpi the Launcher gives 6 columns by 7 rows in the app screen. Video playback is just through the stock player using HW Decode where it can no other software required. If you're using MX you need to make sure you have the Arm 7 Codecs as well and make sure it tries to use HW where possible. Not tried it heavily as the stock player is pretty good now.
Well that looks shiny
