Has anyone bought one from their outlet center? Apparently they are customer returns. My question is, are they open box or refurbs?

Yes, people have bought them. And I think they are mostly just returned items. Probably all are good, just people hated the way they work out of the box.
Everytime I see one on the outlet website they are only available for store pickup. Has anyone gotten sears to ship them a "reconditioned" one?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I have an Outlet device - they are customer returns. As such, they could have scuffs and scratches depending on how the inital owner treated them.
I believe that these are "Closeouts" that you would see in the Clearance area in their Electronics section. As such, you have to pick it up in the store that you bought it from.
I bought mine online, got an email an hour later that it was ready for pickup, and then drove over to get it at Merchandise pickup. Mine was a first run, the previous owner had taken off the screen protector, but it was in good cosmetic shape. The previous owner actually had Androot on it, as well as Launcher Pro!
I've ordered one at sears.com and I haven't got a time to pick it up yet.
What do you mean it's returned items?
I wasn't able to see anything about returned item on the web site.
Please point it for me.
TIA.
Unlike roebeet, I had a pretty horrible experiences with the sears outlet. I to make about 10 phone calls to different departments and different stores. I waited for a week because they kept telling me the item will be "ready" in couple days. They all give me the run around. Even when I confronted them that me calling someone else will not help because I called that number already, they kept repeating what they just said untill I hung up. Half the time they could not find my order even after I gave them my order id, sale check number, my name, address, and phone number.
I kept calling the sears outlet customer service till I got someone useful that actually wanted to help me. I found out the reason that half the the people could not find my order was because they never check the "sears outlet" box when they searched with my order id. Because the last guy who helped said he had no trouble finding my order. He actually called the sears store that i was suppose to pick up the item from for me.
He got hung up twice by the sears store then came back to me and told me he will try again because he wants to get to the bottom of this. It took him 5 more calls to actually get to the manager of the sears store. This took him about hour and half. In the end he found out my order been canceled but nothing was updated and my credit card was still charged. I got my refund back but wasted a lot of time.
I guess the moral of the story is if you do not get a email in one day when the store are open. You should cancel your order to save yourself the trouble. If the sears outlet customer service cannot find your order by the order id ask them if they have sears outlet checked. Because there should be no reason for them to have to ask you sale check number, your name, address, and phone number to find your order.

sears.com (or a regular Sears store) is not a Sears Outlet store which is being discussed here.
Absolutely check your local store in their electronic clearance area....
All returns will go to the floor at a reduced price if it's just a return.
If the item has a problem, it might end up at the Outlet center.
I bought 2... 1 brand new at the black friday price and 1 returned.

When you say black friday price do you mean $379.99? The price on the sears outlet is $279.99. Because I would not buy this product unless its under $300.
This is actually interesting. I work for Sears and I'm in charge of processing high value returns between electronics/hardware. Our Sears Outlet site is simply a database of our 991 items ( clearence ). All sears outlet does is show you what stores in your area have that item at a discounted price, but it does also show what we have in our actual outlet stores as well. The only reason electronics get marked down is because they are last years models, or because they were returned/have physical damage/missing something.
One thing I can tell you for certain is that they are not refurbished. We do not refurbish computers ( or any device that stores personal information ) on a store level ( regular full line store, not a physical outlet center ). If the box has been opened and the customer has used it, it's not to be sold in stores, and frankly, even if it hasn't been opened, it's not to be sold either. It's supposed to be sent to a return center to be properly processed - and no, it will never come back to the store.
I mean, correct me if I'm mistaken but you guys have picked up these tablets at a discount at a regular store? They would absolutely not go back on the salesfloor at my store.
I'm not trying to spill secrets here, but it's a heads up for you guys. Frankly I'd love to know what stores are doing it, if I'm following this correctly. This is not only wrong for the previous owners but wrong for the second buyers. Which is why it's against policy. And like Roebeet said - how those programs were left on it - means it was blatantly processed incorrectly. This actually bothers me quite a bit...
I ordered a second gtab from Sears outlet @ 279. Picked it up at the Scranton pa store still I'm the shrink wrap. Looked unopened to me and not a fingerprint to be seen. The lady said it came from a pile in the back...? So I'm pretty sure I got a brand new gtab for 279.
This thread has probably ruined our chances of ever getting another G-tab for $279.

Wait until after 12/25....
Just last night I found them online in the "Outlet". I was going to place order but I fell asleep studying. This morning, I wake up to place the order and...they are no longer showing up on the outlet website! Like at all! Do disappointed. I guess now I am stuck with the 101 as it was in my price range, but 2.2 runs like crap on it, so I read, and it will probably never see 2.3 or 3.0.
I hope searsoutlet is only sold out of them. I have been looking on the site everyday for about a week and nothing...
Anybody else know where to get them for this cheap?

Seven of them in SEARS today - looks like Black Friday returns are starting to come in.
What is the link for refurbs?
60,000 units times perhaps 70% returns = about $4.2 million cost for refurb sale and handling costs (minimum).
Not seeing how this ends well.... Perhaps people will learn not to release a product not ready and then release a very half-hearted update, while a few people that are not even paid make it a near great product.
I wonder if Viewsonic has accrued for this hit to their P&L in 2011? Viewsonic is nuts if they think Kmart / Sears, Office Depot and Staples will eat these costs.
All they have to do is get rid of Tap, add the Nvidia drivers, Flash and do something about the disaster of an app market portal. That last one is the hardest, but the others can be done NOW- not 12/19, which will probably be another half-hearted effort.
The sales and operations planning meeting for February will be very interesting at Viewsonic

My guess is Viewsonic may see a bunch of returns by retailers before sold to customers, but I did not expect the device to be pushed during BF, either.
Logic sometimes has no meaning.

I guess I'll be taking a ride to freehold and paramus! LOL!
WOW! The one from Paramus was gone when I clicked on the link. I just bought the one from Freehold.
Half of them are already gone.
Is there a way you can reserve these before driving to the store and purchasing it? I'd hate to purchase it, drive to the store, and it's gone..
Buy it online, the store confirms the unit is there, then they charge your card. You get an email that says it's available for pick-up. and you drive to get it. If its already gone, you don't get charged.

Seriously, at that price, you would be foolish not to buy a 3 day old device. I don't even care if it doesn't boot; I can fix that!

The online site doesn't give me an option to buy it, just print out a page w/ a tracking number and goto the store. I called the store and the manager and sales associate seemed kind of clueless about sears outlet, and said they didn't have any in stock..?
EDIT: I see now that you have to "Add to Cart" to reserve the item and order it online. Here's hoping I got it!
just tried to buy the one from marlborough, MA and I ordered it at 9:30 AM and the store does not open till 10 am. I still got an out of stock email T.T
I am willing to pay someone if they can get one for me. There are none in my area.
Well, I placed an order online and went to the store for pickup (fairfax, va), and on my way there I got a call that the product was defective and being sent back to viewsonic. Seeing as how I was almost there, I just went to the store. Spoke with the manager and got the same schpeel. "The customer returned it for an issue with wifi."
So, one has to wonder why it was up for sale if there was a problem with the wifi, and how they magically knew there was a problem after me calling and inquiring about it. It would appear that perhaps someone else wanted the tablet who works there, but who knows. Perhaps I should have just taken it and tested out the wifi on my own but I opted not to.. Moral of the story, don't call the store.

As of 1:30 pm Eastern, they are all gone except the lonely one in upstate NY that has been there for a couple of weeks. Its amazing to me how these units sold out so fast. I still need another so I check the website a couple of times a day.
Yes, they are all gone. I was able to buy one, but i had to drive 180 mile one way, so I choose not to do it.

Hey guys! Do what I did: Went to my local Sears in NC, talked to the store manager, purchased a gift card on the spot for $311 ($279 plus UPS shipping). He called the store manager in Michigan. Had the G tablet sent my house, it arrived 2 days before my birthday. The stores can accept your Sears can send ID on back of the card to the store in question and hopefully ship your device. Also sign up for the Sears loyalty card while your at it; picked up $10 bucks in Sears points on the spot!

He mention that he had gotten 30 in. He sold 8. All 8 came back.
He also mentioned that none of the sales team was recommending it, because it's bad for the bottom line...

Yeah, which one. I need to pick them up at $279 a piece!

I would almost be afraid to order from there. Had anyone ordered from the outlet? The site mentions scratched items.
Inticing at 100 off retail...what do ya all think?

Gotta be in ny for that one.
I just picked up my second G tab from the Sears in Scranton PA. Ordered from searsoutlet for 279. This one is a gift for my brother.
When I got to the customer pickup the lady said that "they don't get stuff from sears outlet" and that the tablet she got for me was from a pile of other tablets.
The package was unopened...and when i unboxed the tablet it looked completely untouched.
So bottom line is..I got a brand new tablet for 279.
Im not sure what the deal is with the searsoutlet but i know that tabs pop up a lot...and I don't see how they could have been sent back and forth to China for refurbishing?..?
CLick on the "refurbished" link. That is the term they use for anything NOT new! LOL!
I just realized that you cant order it to be delivered anyways... so must be a way for them to get rid of open box product and such. Closest one to me is Alabama ... and I am in California oh well.
Holy cow 8 out of 8 returned? After showing mine to a client the other day I told them if they wanted one to wait until Honeycomb comes out in 2011 and the bugs are worked out. Being that I would be the one supporting it.
I'm waiting for one to show up in the local Sears Outlet here, with the state this thing is in by default, $400 is way too high.
Viewsonic is going to catch hell from a bunch of retailers over this one.. Sears, Staples, Office Max (?), any others selling this lemon?
The fine folks here on XDA are making good strides on the tablet, and I suspect soon there will be good ROM that "just works", but out-of-box this thing is total crap and the 8 of 8 returned doesn't surprise me one bit.
THey may be out of stock but the site is now giving awat 9 quadrillion dollars with the purchase of the tablet... do you think this is a good deal

Hey all. Well with all my reading on the forums and all the hard work the developers have been doing for this tab, I made up my mind to get this tab instead of the Archos 101. So here's my story:
I went to Sears and saw the G Tablet sitting all alone on a shelf with the security wires around it so that it cannot be opened. I thought that they were selling fast so I grabbed it and paid for it.
I drove back to work and pulled it out of the bag. I reached for a scissors/blade to open the box, but I found that there were no security labels on the box. That was weird. I say so because according to Sears if you return it in an openned condition, theres a 15% restocking fee. I thought they would have made sure that it was seald.
Anyways, I open the box and take a look around the black foam that cushions the tab in the box, and what do I see? CAT HAIR!!!! I thought, how could this be? This is supose to be a NEW tablet. I begin to carefully pull the tablet out of the cover and discover that it is covered in finger prints (5+ fingerprints). WHAT!!!!! I quickly placed it back in its cover so that I do not touch the screen at all. I lift the tab in its cover out of the box and notice an empty zip lock at the bottom of the box where the accessories are. Why is it empty????????? Also, the contents that were suppose to be in it are laying next to it OUTSIDE OF THE BAG!!
I immediatley thought, 'Did Sears just sell me a USED device at full price'? I called Sears and told them I have reason to believe the tablet was used and that I'm bringing it back.
Do you guys think I should bring it back, or should I just suck it up and keep it. Also, has this ever happened to you?
Thanks,
Scott
When I got mine the whole box was sealed.
Hi,
If it were me, I'd definitely take it back and get it replaced with a new one.

I would take it back to the store. With a little persistence, you can probably walk away only paying the refurb price as seen on their outlet site. I have heard others doing the same with other products.
I would test the tablet first and make sure it it working. then, You should talk with the store manager and try to get a discount like 20%, if not, then return it with no restocking fee.
I bought mine on Saturday for $349 and I asked the sales, she said that during the holiday weeks, there will NOT be a restocking fee as long as I return it with the orginial box, etc.
Ask for a discount or return it with full refund.
Same here, mine came in shrink wrap.
If you think you got taken, take it back.
However, if it works (big if... be sure about this one), and you like it... what the hey, try talking to the manager.
Thanks for the info and suggestions everyone. Im going to take it back in a few hours right after work. I honestly dont even want it for a discount price. I just want a brand new sealed one. I will post the status of my return once it has been accomplished.
Thanks again,
Scott
We have two G-Tabs; a brand-new one I got for full-price for my wife, and a "refurb" which was really just a returned G-Tab that I got for $279. The used G-Tab functionally is exactly the same with the same warranty, etc except the person who had it before me had flashed an early TnT onto it (and even returned it that way; I had access to all kinds of sites, etc that he forgot to wipe from cache/data. I obviously didn't take advantage of that and erased it completely).
My point is that if the cost doesn't matter to you, I'd exchange it for a new one. Otherwise, you can always get a nice case or some other accessories for it with money you'd get back by taking the "refurb" price. There is not a single difference between my machine and my wife's after nearly a month of use; you can't really tell the difference between the two (unless you know our wallpapers).

Good idea. Im gonna power it on right now and test it as much as possible to see if everything works. If its ok and I get the same warranty, I'll try and talk Sears down. If not, then its a new one. I'll be leaving work in 30 minutes and Sears is just down the road, so I should be reporting back about the swap by 5.
Thanks,
Scott
I wouldn't even bother investing time into it, immediate return for me.
Cat hair? Fingerprints? Not new, not what I paid for.
So Im at Sears now and I just returned the item. Funniest thing, the guy asked me what was wrong and I told him. So he said no problem we will exchange it. Then he punched some buttons and here comes a yellow "clearance" sticker that he just slaps on it for $279. Go figure.
Scott
If it has the power supply/charger and USB cable, I would buy it for $279. the manuals consist of some papers that point you to the WEB.
then when you get it home, go to the DEV page here and download clockwork mod and for me Cyanogenmod and make it sing.
Wow my day gets better and better. So I'm waiting for the new tab and they tell me they have 20 in stock but they can't find it. So they give me a full refund and send me to another store. I asked if I can buy the one I just returned and he said no. It's already processed to go to the warehouse. Again, go figure lol

Wait so they have a unit you returned, slapped a 249 sticker on it and they will not sell it to you?
I would talk to a manager, if that is the one you want. That is not customer service.
I didnt even bother. The guy seemed quite miserable too. Well I'm at another Sears location now and they handed me the item. Guess what, its shrink wrapped. Looks like I got a brand new one. Gonna get home and hack the mess out of this thing lol.
Thanks
Scott
Congrats, the main thing is that you are happy with the purchase.
This happens all the time, unfortunately. And not just at SEARS.
The only thing they screwed up on is not cleaning the darn thing before putting it back on the shelves. If you're going to break your own store rules, at least do it well.
As for a "refurb", the device I have now was a clearance / closeout item - had a lot of fingerprints and the previous owner rooted it. But, for $215 with tax I could live with a used item. On occasion the Outlet will have a GTab at $200 or less - most of the time it's $279.
Stories like these and others are the reasons I don't shop at Sears anymore. After I'd long since stopped shopping there, my wife bought a lawnmower from our local Sears. It had a gas leak. About 1/4 of the way through my lawn it ran out of gas and I learned it was leaking it all over my lawn.
The store insisted since I used it I couldn't return it. They said they would have to "fix it" for me. After the manager raised his voice to me I flipped the receipt over, read the line that states "if you are not completely satisfied at any time return the items for a full refund." I said "I'm not satisfied. Do I need to explain that to corporate?". He jerked the receipt out of my hands and started pounded the refund into the register without saying another word.
My previous experiences with Sears were similar. Same problem with Western Auto which at the time was owned by Sears. I finally got a hint and stopped shopping at there or any of their subsidiaries like K-Mart (which has another whole string of horror stories regarding misleading pricing I could discuss.)
My G tablet is on it's way from Staples right now. I think Santa may hang onto it though.
Link coming soon
Here is my unboxing video:

I am planning on picking up a Gtab tomorrow at Staples, since the one near where I work has them in stock. I checked the website just out of curiousity and they're no longer listed. I know that Staples was very down on them...none on display and the first time I went in someone who works there told me that they were dissuading people from purchasing them.
Anyone know anything about their clearance policies?
I asked my local Staples about it, a few weeks back - they said that they did not have one.
If they are pulling the GTab, I should call them and see if they'd sell the floor model. I was nice enough to update the firmware for them a week back (they weren't at the latest).
In the store yesterday and in fact in this week's local sale paper for $399.

I was surprised too when I searched for it on Staples website.
Now at Office Depot
In this morning's paper at Office Depot for $399. I suspect that perhaps Staples temporarily pulled the unit because of price match concerns with Sears at $350 last weekend. I've noticed that in the past when OD had an item cheaper that suddenly the availabilty of an item at Staples went to zero. Could be that they just sold out coincident to the lower price but does make one wonder.
That said, I missed my price match by a few days but still glad I pulled the trigger and have a nice little tablet and a few days off to explore. Thanks to the efforts of folks here it works really well at this point.

Hello,
I've read a few posts about people purchasing gTabs that were returned to the store.
Is this from specific retails only and how do you track down those that have returned units? Are all stores willing to re-sell a returned tablet?
Thanks in advance. I have a gTab and my wife has decided she'd like to switch from her laptop. Hoping we can track one down for her.

Sears outlet (www.searsoutlet.com) will display available tablets and they appear fairly regularly. The catch is they are usually only available for in-store purchase and they usually sell pretty fast. Not surprising, since they are usually priced around 279 USD.
The buy instore is really dependent on the store and the customer service people.
SearsOutlet.com had one about two weeks ago, I called the store to ask if they could ship it. The answer may vary but here's what you should do:
1. tell the automated answering machine, "Electronics" and "Store" or "Floor" (can't remember) , the Call center people you usually get can't help you and will just direct you to the Sales staff on hand. You need to talk to someone physically in the store. So listen for the option to talk to a rep on the floor.
2. Make sure they actually have the unit on hand.
3. Ask about shipping it.
a. The manager I talked to in Buffalo, NY(Scott Nash) Said that Sears will ship it for you.
4. You pay for it on the searsoutlet.com site and then give the confirmation number in the store, and I guess they'll arranged for a UPS Pickup.
I got it about 4 days later. If the people in the store give you trouble complain to @sears on twitter. Maybe they can help. They acknowledged me when I thanked Scott and Roland the guys who helped me.
Good Luck.
PS: Seems like you have better luck seeing them on the outlet site between 8 and 10 am, either they sell like hotcakes or its a bug. But I would see em in the morning and then not see the tablet in the evening. just go to searsoutlet.com and search for viewsonic that way you'll see the case too if you want it. you shouldn't get much else. click the one you want. if it says they don't have it in your area click view all available and click on the store info. the phone # will be there if you need to call them.
I picked mine up at a Sears store for $279. It was listed on searsoutlet.com, try "searsoutlet.com/d/products.jsp?md=srh_md&stxt=tablet" (I'm too new to post outside links). They'll show up there for a couple of hours to a couple of days. You should check once or twice a day and be ready to pounce!
It was missing the manuals (I already had the pdf's) and usb cable (I have plenty). So far I'm happy with it.
Thanks for all the replies.
Unfortunately our Sears is the size of a convenience store and they never had them for sale. I tried searching on the next closest location but nothing wanted to come up. Haha maybe we don't have any others here in Montana.
We do however have two Staples within two miles of each other. I stopped at one and the manager said they had nothing. All units had been returned to Viewsonic.
I'll keep searching, thanks again for the information.
