[Q] Car Holder - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

Thinking of getting this car holder and just wondered if anyone owned one and could let me know what it's like? It says there is a charger built in but I can't see it in the photos. How long is the cable? Can the holder be attached to the dash or just the window.

I can see that one scratching the bezel or back after sliding it in and out a few times.

Review - Brodit Active Car Holder

Hi,
I searched a long time for a good car holder. Now I bought the brodit active holder and want to give you some feedback on it.
Positive:
- Build quality is very good. The plastic doesn't look cheap but very good.
- Despue the fact that the brodit holders are not glued or drilled to the dashboard, it's very very stable.
- The holder is active, that means if you push it in into the holder it gets energy
- The cable to the cigarette plug and the plug itself is looking good as well. A little light on the plug is showing that energy is.
- The car specific part can be fixed without drilling. So in a leasing car you can remove it after some years again.
- Inserting and removing the phone is easy. It's not to tight and not to loose, just perfect.
Interesting to know:
- I read that the brodit car holders a consisting of two parts, the car specific part and the device specific part and therefore you can switch the holder between the cars. That doesn't work as I expected because the device specific part and the car specific part are connected with a screw. So you can't easily take it to car A today and car b tommorow.
- The same applies to the orientation of the phone. Landscape is possible. But you have to open the screw with a scredriver. Adjust the holder as you like it and thight the screw again. You won't change it from day to day or even during the drive.
Edit 01/31/2011: Both is probably possible if you have the right extra parts from Brodit. Thanks for your feedback guys.
Negativ:
- There is a "open area" for the headspeaker plug in the holder frame. But this one has to little tolerance (or HTC changed the dimensions of the phone). I couldn't insert the plug. It's not important for me as I have a bluetooth connection to my auto radio.
Summary:
I would buy it again. It's a bit expensive (ca. 75 EUR for both parts of the holder) but worth the money as I haven't find something comparable.
Any chance of some pictures to see it in action? im after a car holder aswell
Good one
Brodit are the best car holders in my opinion i use them for years now and in different cars never had any problems whit them it wont fell of the fit is perfect if you get the right part to place it in your car they made for every car its own part so look out you get the right part for you brand and type of car
Regards Wielo
Yu cannot movt from car to car because you have to fasten the holder to the clip with screws. But you can buy 1 clip for each car and buy the removable adaptors (I don't remember how they call them, something like clip & move) so that you can easily transfer to different cars.
Orientation: not true, you can just rotate and move at any angle you like.
Charger: bad thing is that it is not recognized as dock which would be very nice to have.
Also, I received one which was very tight for the phone, so tight that I couldn't take the phone out of it and most times, the sim cover would get off and stay in the cradle. I received a replacement which seems to have been altered to allow more room for the phone. If you have similar case, you should request replacement from brodit directly since resellers deny the issue.
Some picture would be really helpful!
I am looking to go Brodit's way - I particularly like the option of the molex connector for getting direct power from the power, thus hiding cables! The price though is kind of heavy...
Regarding the picture, you can see it pretty good on that site. Go with the mouse over the small pictures:

Regarding the "moving it from one car to another". You are right. There are some extra parts that can be bought.
Regarding the orientation, you may be right as well. I didn't know that there is that much extra parts you can buy. There is probably one that allows it. With my solution it's not possible. At the moment I am a bit overwhelmed how many extra parts there are. It's difficult to know which one is good for what.

That's not a big problem for me. I use tasker in order to configure/control the phone. If the bluetooth connection to my radio is connected, I have a trigger to do whatever I want.

Anyone tried converting the wireless charging orb to a car charger?

As title. I have a back skin on my phone and never had any slipping problem with the orb, so I was thinking if I could convert it to a car charger. Has anyone tried this? Does it stay put on the road?
I wouldn't risk it. One good bump and I'm pretty sure your phone would go flying.

Someone did. I think it was in the orb thread. What was done was use a AC/DC converter to plug it in. Don't remember how they kept it set in place during right or left turns lol.
And a good bump in the road will indeedy knock it off.
lol I should do some experiment with some cushion near my dash...if it sticks it would be a very nice car mount.
There's a topic here somewhere where the guy drilled holes and put magnets so even hard bumps kept it in place.
Didn't work for me. I drive an Explorer and bumps in the road dislodge the phone from the charger. I ended up using a WCP-700 instead.

I'm the one who put magnets on the orb. I don't care what kind of sticky back you have, your phone is guaranteed to fall while driving. As a test put your phone on the orb and lift the orb up and start shaking it. See if the phone falls off. The way I did it, you can hit a pothole then take a jump being airborne and landing into a telephone pole and the phone will still be charging on the orb!
I put it in my car using a 2.1 amp car charger and it powered it up great.

I've done it, and it works better than any of the other wireless chargers i've used.
I'll post some pictures of my setup in the next hour or so.
Currently i own three wireless chargers, the official one, the cheap one from china (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Qi...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item48532ccec1) and the Panasonic one that moves the coil to your phone.
I've tried the first two in my car and the Orb by far is my favorite. Pretty much all i did was pull the rubber stopper from the bottom and use command strips to stick the orb in my center console. I plug the included USB into my Belkin bluetooth usb port (http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Blueto...68023962&sr=8-1&keywords=belkin+bluetooth+car). I keep a skinomi skin on my phone so it sticks to the Orb like glue.
Granted, once you see the pictures you will see the phone wouldnt have far to fall if it did come undone, but i've used this thing since i got it and the only time the phone has moved has been during times between skinomi skins (any clear skin will work. I had a dbrand leather skin and it slides eventually.) When i received my cheap wireless charger i attempted to use it in the car with the help of some grip tape (the kind for electronics, its the same material used for those grip pads you can by for your car). While it was in the car i used command strips to attach my charging orb to the wall next to my bed (upside down). I could just place my phone on it (the angle was about the same as it would be sitting on a desk) and it would charge. During the course of the night the phone wouldnt move an inch. I wouldnt try that without a skinomi or similar clear protector on the back. The glass slides, and so do cases and designed covers. Anyway, I didnt like the cheap charger in my car as it didnt charge consistently or quickly. Now it sits on my desk at work and the Orb is back in my car. I'll post pics once i go back out.
[VIDEO] Orb in the car using the magnetic method!
I have attached a video of the Orb in the car and it charges plus will never fall off. Check out the video.

Very nice tips. Once I get a higher output car charger I will start experimenting with it.
Actual charger in place and working in my car. Oh, it's not the Orb but the other LG Charger: LG WCP-300

In the works
I'm in the process or rigging up the google orb to be a car charger....
only instead of a standard orb just placed in my truck, I've crossed it with a ram mount xgrip bracket...
Since the only necessary parts of the orb is the charging plate and circuit board, I took mine apart and attacked the case of the orb with a dremel, cut out most (all?) of the honeycombing structure in it, shaved it down to a ring, then reassembled it around the xgrip (pictures to follow... still needs some cleaning up and final tweaking.)
Not sure how well it will charge, I can't recall what the output of my cla->usb adapter is... I'm hoping it will be at least enough to maintain the charge, if not actually recharge the phone.

Qi fast charger magnetic/sticky car mount

has anyone here found a car mount that has either a magnetic or sticky pad qi charger? looking for a sleek install in my car. or do i have no other choice to diy it?
I haven't tried it yet but this one has been the only one I've been able to find so far. I am currently using this Spigen magnetic mount and was able to position the metal plate at the very bottom of the phone horizontally where it will still hold the phone securely but not interfere with my Samsung fast wireless dock at home, but it would be nice to have wireless charging in the vehicle as well.
I've been considering the air dock 2.0 but it doesn't have quick charge. I read somewhere that the magnets can interfere with the spen somehow. I'll probably end up picking up a choetech fast charger and rigging it somehow.
I'm really looking for this as well..
Couldn't find a single magnetic QI car charger which supports QC 2.0 yet.
I have used the magnetic mount mentioned above from Amazon. The really cool thing about it is you do not need any extra metal or magnets for the Note 7 to stick to it (previously I had always mounted magnets under the back cover or inside a skin to hold the phone) However, what I do is have the bottom of the phone rest on top of my car stereo to keep it in place. This adds more support for the phone in addition to the magnetic mount and seems to really help keep the phone attached on bumpy roads and fast turns. Lining up the phone to charge correctly can be a bit of a challenge also. I had been making custom magnetic charging car mounts for myself with my other phones (started with the palm touchstone a few years ago) but his is so far the best stock experience I have had for a magnetic wireless charging car mount.
I have ordered a proclip for my vehicle. Waiting on that and still searching for a Qi charger thatll look and fit nice in my center console. Still debating if I wanna do magnets or sticky tape. I too have the magnetic mount. But it doesn't seem to be strong enough with a case and the metal backing interferes with the Qi charger in my room.

Recommend: The best wireless charging car dock

Hi All,
I ordered my Note 9 512gb a little while back and have a few more weeks to wait. While I'm waiting I'm getting all the stuff I think I want to have with it. One of those things is a wireless charging car dock. There are too many out there to really know which is best so I thought I would ask the people that already have the note9 and possibly are already using a wireless car dock. Thanks!
I'm interested too. I'm searching for one usable with the clear view cover. Magnetic one would be great but I'm scared by the metallic ring and Qi interferences. I'm thinking of building my own based on the magnet already in the cover...
Nobody has a pony in this race?
I went with Choetech one for my other car because it has a USB C inout for power. Works good, about the same as the iottie one touch except not as convenient.

I like the Choetech charger but 2 things bug me. The arms are slightly curved inwards toward the end and when the phone sits in the cradle all the way back the tips of the arms slightly block the screen. And forget about accessing the side edge function. 2nd is the mount, it doesn't use the 17mm ball and it's reversed compared to other mounts. The socket needs to be on the back of the device instead of the ball.

Thanks gottria. I use a panavise mount in my C63 and have a 17mm ball to hook the dock onto. This would've completely screwed up my setup :highfive:
I've just bought the choetech fast wireless charger mount. I have a Vauxhall vivaro and theres no good way to mount it so its on the windscreen towards the top with a USB trailing down to the quick charge 12v plug I use. I can see it being a pain but doesn't really block my view. I prefer air vent mounts had a baseus wireless charger but didn't even charge the phone. Compared to the choetech its much more cheapy and flimsy the choetech feels solid. Which is good but if anyone can advice a way I Can get a air vent mount to hold it to that then would prefer it.
My main worry about the choetech is with cold freezing weather coming in and frozen windscreens how well will it actually hold up as dont want my £1000 phone dropping and smashing. :fingers-crossed:

If you find a solution, let me know. I too am struggling to find one that works with the clear view cover
I have to say that when it comes to car mounts period, the folks at EXOGEAR are the best from my experience over the years. I've used their tablet and smartphone mounts. These mofos stick to practically any surface. Couple that with the way the phone snaps in and out of the mounts? It's so quick and easy.
But now I'm learning these guys make wireless chargers for their mounts. It says it goes "up to" 9v so I'm curious how fast it actually charges the N9.
Since it's EXOGEAR and I swear by their suction cup performance I'm going to buy it soon as it comes available and I'll check back later and let y'all know how it worked out. I honestly never felt the need to have a wireless charger in my car because I typically have plenty of battery life by the time I get home but this wireless charger peaked my interest.
https://exogear.com/product/exomount-qi/
I purchased the iOttie and loved it enough to purchase a second one for my wifes car. I havent found a single suction cup that would work with my leather in the car so I purchased a panavise mount and 17mm ball adapter to mount it. But while waiting for those to arrive I tested the suction cup and it holds... amazingly. The mount hasn't shifted in the slightest and I have launched the car from a dead stop a few times trying to get it to shake lose. I can feel my body violently being forced back into the seat but the mount doesn't look fazed. First time I can actual praise a suction cup mounting system.
Also I thought I should add that "Fast Charging" is displayed when the phone is docked.
I'm using the Baseus Qi Wireless Magnetic Fast Charger and it's pretty good. The only downside is if you have stiff car suspension (like in sports car) and get into a big bump, the phone can lose grip and fall.

Since my car already has a navigation screen I don't need the phone up in the vent area. Besides I didn't like any of the in vent holders. The magnetic phone holders out there I don't like since if i hit a bump or pothole the phone will fall due to its weight. There is a coin slot holder in my care but the wireless ones usually have a base that won't fit in that holder. But I then found a wood wireless charger a while back that had a metal base which is removable. I placed it in the coin holder and it charges my then Note 8, now Note 9 even with a case. Granted it is not a fast charge type of wireless charger but it does charge my phones quickly enough on the half hour of driving from work to home. So it does the job enough for me, looks great and I don't have to worry about the phone falling off a magnet or blocking the vent.

Question Car air vent magnetic charger for Flip 3

Been trying to research this with not a lot of luck so far.
Does anyone know of a magnetic charger (not the arm clamping ones) that fits on a car air vent and that can wirelessly charge the Flip 3 ?
I just bought one (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08RRY9211) but the magnet will not work with my flip 3. Was thinking of getting one of these (https://www.amazon.co.uk/ESR-HaloLock-MagSafe-Wireless-Charger/dp/B09BYRZFDR). Does anyone know if this will work ?
Failing that, can anyone recommend a good magnetic air vent wireless charger for the Flip 3. Preferably available in the UK.
Thanks in advance.
Just wanted to update this. The Magsafe ring works an absolute treat ! So I am very happy. Have also bought one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09Z24Y5S6 for the side-table next to where I watch TV.
The one thing that I am missing (magnetic-wise) is a magnetic 3-in-1 charger for the desk in my office. It need to have a magnetic upright charger as well as a charger for a Samsung Watch 4 and a charger for my Samsung Buds Pro. Think that I am really stretching what might be available, but thought that I would check here if anyone knew of such a thing.
Many thanks.
