If you want just install Rom Manager then install Clockwork recovery from within Rom Manager. Just like i did.

Desire HD - Rooted
LeeDrOiD 1.2
Rom Manager 2.5.07
Did an update in the rom manager, HTC Desire HD was the only option
BUT "An error occurred while attempting to run privilidged commands!"
Now worked, for some reason superuser had been disabled, and I know it was not me

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

\o/ thanks, installing worked like a charm, just how it should

Upgraded from Paul's recovery.
Everything works great.
Thanks Koush

YEP! GOOD MORNING!

Thanks for the heads up, it's all working fine. Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix the issue regarding the phone turning on and booting into Clockwork recovery when it's off and being charged.

Need more info than you've given.
Have you got root on the device?
Have you got S-OFF?
If you have both, then simply download Rom manager from the market and install the recovery.

Hi
Try to run "Fix permissions" in Rom Manager. I had the same problem and this helped me.

Do we need to manually S-OFF before we can flash roms with this?
I didnt realise so i have already flashed recovery...
Do i need to go back and sort out S-OFF?

Yes, i think you definately need S-OFF

Im somewhat confused now, one of the guides mentions that S-Off is not mandatory...
Can someone post to confirm please?
Thanks

Thanks for the update!

S-OFF is not mandatory!

Ok I don't get it.
I had permroot on my dhd with visionary and downloaded Rom manager now and flashed clockwork recovery by selecting my device. Now if I select reboot in recovery I only get options, reboot, sdcard update.zip and wipe. Also it says e:can't open cache/recovery/command
It does not show options like backup, restore or install from zip. Even after doing the fix permissions in Rom manager
What am I doing wrong?

If you rooted your phone you are not able to install the update...
2 Scenarios:
If you haven't rooted your phone and the update failed, you can try removing battery and placing it back in...if that doesnt work I would boot into recovery mode; using the volume down key and power button when the phone is shutoff and restore phone back to factory settings
If you are rooted, I would advise you to reboot into clockwork mod recovery and wipe your system and cache...and flash the stock htc ROM...wich is in this link...

Hope this helps
Yes, it's a rooted phone.. so this is normal for rooted phone.. i will try to update using clockwork..
Thanx

So I rooted my wife's Inspire. Reinstalled all her apps and what not. The only way to get the update is to download and flash via CWM and lose all the stuff I just installed?

Just tested with ROM Mananger, it can backup just fine.. as soon i choose a ROM to install it loads recovery and fails, just like when you do it manually.

Sounds like stock recovery installed itself. If you are rooted remove/rename /etc/install-recovery.sh then reflash cwm manually or through rom manager.

I have had this happen on my NS4G. I know they are a little different, but it seems like you are having the same thing happen that I did and to solve it, I open Windows command prompt(or terminal depending on you OS) and fastboot flash recovery (insert recovery.img name here) and reflashed the recovery partition with clockwork. Very easy fix. Just make sure you boot straight into recovery after flashing and flash the Rom you want to flash before booting back into stock(also make a nandroid before that). After that you shouldn't have any more problems unless you unroot. There must be a small glitch somewhere when flashing the clockwork doesn't fully erase stock recovery partition.

The Nexus one did the same thing. Most OTAs verify / replace this file. It's easy enough to deal with if you're unlocked and rooted.

I am using the terminal method. flash_image recovery recovery.img
that is the same method as I have used every other time.
I just flashed CMR 5.0.2.0 through ROM Manager last night. verified it just now using vol down + pwr and 5.0.2.0 is what came up. is my phone tricking me? or did fake flash get fixed/changed?
bumping this thread back up, every time i open RM it says there's a new version of CWM so i download it over wifi and it installs but never changes on screen. i just rebooted into recovery and its saying im using v5.0.2.0 but like the last post said is this thing tricking me and saying its really updated or what?
I gave up on Rom manager a long time ago. I have 4ext recovery now. But to throw my posts relevance in there, I just opened Rom manager and it says I have the latest version installed right now when the reality is quite distant from that.
Doesn't really answer your question... But Rom manager is definitely flawed....

Looks like you're having issues getting into the recovery. That screen isn't the recovery, and I've had it before.
A lot of times, when you root on a stock rom, the phone deletes clockwork and restores the old recovery. That might be why you're having issues with it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
The second post on this thread describes how to make clockwork stick. You might need to make use of some adb commands OR get an app like Root Explorer.
1. Flash the recovery
2. Follow the instructions in the second post before rebooting your phone.
That should do it.

Actually it is. That's the stock recovery, but it's options are too limited which is why we use CWM.
Rest of your instructions should help the OP out though, good on that.

Just flash clockwork again and flash a non stock rom, or remove the file as described if u wanna stay stock.
Ya I think it was just freezing up got into recovery and installed new rom
I do thank everyone help

[Q] Tried to Root HTC ONE X stuck at 'This build is for development purposes only'

Disclaimer: I am a noob!:cyclops: Wont understand jargon.
I tried rooting my HTC device and went through all the instructions as given by an youtube video. 'HTC One X - Root (in-depth)' by 'itvraag'
(I understand no links allowed till 10 posts but this might be an emergency! )
I am stuck at the Recovery section and am unable to get beyond the Recovery mode (screen).
The video says the next step is installing from the .zip file which I have downloaded onto my sd card.
I have got a bootloader screen which says 'Tampered' at the top. So, I guess, its not yet rooted?
I would appreciate solutions.
Thank you!:highfive:
p.s. The phone restarts in the normal At&T mode when done so and hence, its working as in stock.

This is the One S thread. Anyways, at bootloader, where it says tampered, it should also say unlocked. There is also recovery as an option in the menu. Have you flashed a custom recovery yet? If so, select recovery and use power button to select it and boot into your custom recovery. If not, select fastboot, and flash a custom recovery.
