Motorola Droid 2 Bootloader and 2.2 Stock SBF's - Droid 2 Android Development

I was searched for a bootloader SBF last night to service my dead Droid 2, and I came across an amazing site with both, 2.35 and 2.37 bootloader versions, along with the original 2.2 that was shipped with the handset on release.
http://and-developers.com/sbf:droid2
I also have a question, if I wanted to flash back to 2.2, is it the latest (2.37) that won't allow it or did 2.35 block it?

For the record, my process was the following to repair a "Code Corrupt" in bootloader on the Droid 2:
- Download RSD Lite, the bootloader SBF, and the 2.3.20 SBF from MDW.
- Turn phone on, load bootloader SBF via RSD Lite
- The phone will restart, hold "X", and boot into recovery.
- Wipe all
- Pull battery
- Replace battery, hold "Up" on power up (back to flash mode, "Code Corrupt" should be gone)
- Flash SBF
- Pull battery when completed, ("Code Corrupt" will show back up)
- Reload bootloader SBF
- When completed, phone should boot back into a freshly flashed 2.3.20
This was my process, but yours may differ slightly.

Oh yeah. Search for Team Black Hat 2.3.20 Triple Threat on Google. Use the full system SBF.
I did it. I'll answer any questions.

My phone on 2.2.20 has Bootloader D2.35.
Dunno if you can SBF the 2.35 over the 2.37 though.

You can change bootloaders all you want. We just don't have the ability to change kernels at this point.

I have a question and figured this would be the perfect thread to ask it in.
My bootloader on my Droid 2 is D2.35. Is it worth flashing it to 2.37? Is there any real difference since the kernel is locked anyway?
Thanks for your time.

If it's bothering you, you can update. You can switch back and forth between them all you'd like. I've noticed recently though, older is better, especially with the tyranny that Motorola has put on Droid's recently.

No, I'm not bothered by it at all. It was more curiosity than anything.
And I agree with you on Motorola. That's why I rooted my phone the day after I got it.

[GUIDE] Root Instructions (manual method)

If you are on FW: 2.0 or 2.0.1 Read PART 1
If you are on FW: 2.1 Read Part 2
MOD EDIT: For the Telus 2.0.1/2.1 Milestones, start at Part 2.
PART 1
So you are on Firmware 2.0 or 2.0.1 and wanna get root permissions.
First thing you need is the rooted update.zip, which you can download HERE
Put the ZIP file on your SD card
Shut down your phone
Go into recovery mode by holding the Camera-Button and pressing Power-Up
When you see the /!\ -sign press Volume-Up and the the Camera Button
Select "Apply update.zip"
Your'e done
PART 2
Be sure that your phone have atleast 80% of charge.
To root a 2.1 phone we need to downgrade the recovery
For this we need a Only-Recovery SBF file which we can flash via RSD Lite
First install the USB drivers from Motorola
The you need the RSD Lite Tool | Linux machines can use the linux flasher (created by [mbm])
And the Recovery-Only SBF (which will downgrade the Recovery Partition and not the system)
Start the RSD Lite, select the SBF file
Plug in your phone (while its off)
Go into the Bootloader Mode by holding UP (on the hardware keyboard) and press Power-On for 2-3 seconds (if UP doesn't work try pressing X)
Now select your phone which should be now visible in the RSD Lite tool
Press Start
The phone will reboot 1-3 times while the downgrade process. DO NOT unplug it
When its done, you can apply the same method as in PART 1

I would update your Telus Milestone to 2.1 and then use the Part 2 method. That will work.
EDIT: The Telus 2.0.1 method requires you to flash the Brazilian 2.0.1 SPF, and then do the rest of Part 1. I would not recommend that.
However, I have a nandroid backup of a Telus 2.0.1 stock, if you ever need to restore that.
Nice work, if we keep the forum clean and add stickies like this, it will stay nice and clear.

Telus 2.0.1 was also rootable by flashing the same rootable recovery only SBF. I did it and it worked.
Indeed though, the only way back to Telus 2.0.1 is by nandroid, not SBF. But you'd have to have a pretty good reason for wanting 2.0.1 over 2.1.
After being rooted, does Android Wifi Tether work on this device?

No. this won't work. These are .sbf files so they have to be flashed via rsdlite. They CANNOT be flashed with clockwork and will probably screw up your phone more if you do. Boot your phone into bootloader, connect to your pc, and use rsdlite to use these files.
Before you do that, though, try a battery pull. Do that a few times and it might get you into clockwork.

Sorry dude but you'll lose your Metro flash. It will have to be reflashed. If you don't want to pay to have it flashed, I would start reading some online flashing manuals.
On the other hand, does anyone know where I can get the 2.2.1 files?

okay. so i flashed my droid with the 2.01, not knowing which version it was on before it got bricked.
the backlight turns on, but NOTHING ELSE shows up.
when i flashed the SBF to the droid with RSDLITE, the bootloader shows the SW UPDATE in progress, but it still boots to NOTHING...and when i try to go to the bootloader, all that is shown is the blank backlit screen..same when starting the droid.
i'm confused as to what exactly is missing here...the stock SBF is flashed, yet it still won't boot??
edit: tried 2.1, same problem!! currently trying 2.2...i'll update when it's done.
2.2 same problem.

As long as you can get into the bootloader, yes.
I downloaded each one of these and tried to do this with RSD Lite but it keeps telling me it fails.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Would someone be able to assist me?
No data
Ok, my droid lost data connection ( no 3g or 1x icon) it has just the phone´s signal strength bars, wifi works fine, and the icon only appears momentarly when I turn of data connection in wireless settings or turn on airplane mode. So I read some place that I had to run sbf files to reset radio or change radio, actually my phone has Steel Droid v.10.2 (gingerbread 2.3.7) on it.
So my question is if it´s ok to run any of these sbf files on my droid, and will it get stock radio?

Hey all. When the 2.3.2 update was released, my Droid 2 was trying to automatically download and update but it failed the update every time. Maybe because I'm rooted and I had removed several of the B.S. apps I didn't want. So I downloaded the full SBF and used RSD Lite to update it. Everything went smoothly. Now I have an issue where several times a day I'll get a toast entitled "Info: Download of update failed." If I go to settings > about phone > system updates I get a toast that says "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete" followed by the download failed notification.
It seems like the phone is still trying to download the update even though I already have it. Any idea how to stop the automatic download? I already tried rebooting the phone with no luck. Any suggestions are appreciated!

My only suggestion is that your phone still wants to update. If you were to wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset I would think the problem would be gone.
You can Flash straight to this SBF. I started playing with roms after I got the update and basicly bricked my phone I was at the M screen or a boot loop just after and just flashed straight to 2.3.2 and it worked fine.

Help
I don't know if I need to post this here or not. I somehow messed up my phone. I didn't use any sbf and or rsd lite before i rooted my phone. But I was upgrading a rom from rubix 1.8.6 to the 1.8.9 and messed it up. It was stuck at M icon forever then i started messing around with the bootloader and reading these boards. I tried flashing the sbf 2.2 and all that stuff, and couldn't get it out of boot loader. I then tried the 2.3 sbf and now it says low battery, corrupt file..... please help on how i can fix this. I am a noob when it comes to this and any help would greatly be appreciated.

You need to get a charged battery and then you can try flashing the 2.3.2 SBF again(Droid 2 only). The phone won't charge unless your phone has software on it so you need to find somebody with another D2 or a D1 or an external battery charger to get a battery with full or near full power. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088 Read through this tutorial even if you are flashing in windows. It's got everything you need to know about SBF flashing (more for linux but the fixes at the bottom are for anytime you flash an SBF).
If you mess up an install it's always better to try and get into clockwork because unless you really messed up the install you can just get back in to clockwork and re-install and you should be fine. The best way to get into clockwork is to:
1.Shut off phone(battery pull if you need to and wait about 15 seconds so that it doesn't just boot up again).
2.(with phone completely off) plug the phone into the wall charger.
3.Now turn on your phone. (if you get the battery charge screen just press power again)
4.(wait a bit) Now you should be in Clockwork recovery.(if that didn't work try it a few more times.)

[Q] Field device/engineering phone?

I got a warranty replacement D2 today. When I first powered up the phone it bootlooped. Needing a working phone, I SBF'd and got it up and running. What struck me as odd was that RSD Lite 4.8 saw the phone as Engineering (see screenshot below) with no ESN/MEID. In hindsight, I should have taken a screenshot. I'm a little concerned because the phone has a bootloader 2.37 loaded onto it versus version 2.35 on my old D2. While the SBF worked to put the software on it the first time, would I run into problems with subsequent SBF's?
UPDATE: Screenshot added. Trying to SBF again did not work.
That has always done the same thing for me in terms if the rsd lite display info. And you flashed to a newer bootloader (2.37) which is a good thing since its supposed to give better battery life versus the old one.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Any idea why SBF'ing again would fail? I've tried 3x and every time it has come back Code Corrupt. I have plenty of battery and have redownloaded the SBF twice.
Try updating to RSDlite 4.9 or use linux.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies. There is something majorly wrong with the phone. After 4 consecutive SBF's, I got it to boot. While trying to restore my GVoice settings, my voicemail settings hung so I rebooted the phone. It bootlooped again. Plugging it in to RSD Lite yielded the same results. It's as if the phone wipes its nand memory every reboot. I have already talked to Verizon and have another replacement on the way.
OMG make a hard copy of everything that you can regarding the bootloader on that handset. I've been a network engineer for years, what you have is a field device. In other words: what you have is what we need to crack eFuse and unlock Kernal!

Let me know what you need me to do. The bootloader is version 2.37.
Why are you so sure this in a field device? All moto phones have always had engineering and test modes that the phone could be dropped into, and would persist until removed from them. Not to mention, BL 2.37 is nothing special, you can download it and flash it yourself (and honestly, you can go back and forth between 2.35 and 2.37, I've tested it on a regular D2 and it doesn't seem to care what bootloader it has). If you want the files, get them herehttp://and-developers.com/sbf:droid2?s[]=droid&s[]=2.
I don't know if it is a field device. That's what djblu seemed to think. I just found it odd that the nand is completely wiped on every reboot.

HELP SBF

I am now having issues SBF back to GB. I am not a n00b to flashing my D2G. I had just flash in yesterday back to stock really early before I went to work. So I tried again today and the USB port I was using on the same laptop I use all the time to flash it wanted to download the drivers to switch to BP mode so it took longer than normal so the SBF failed. So I attempted to turn off the phone and start again now it says it finished but still stuck at the boot loader and I get this message.
Bootloader
D0.11
Err:A5,70,70,00,1F

What do I do? I SBF my phone back to stock before like 3 or 4 time with not many problems.
Isn't D0.11 the new boot loader that you cant sbf back? If it is you are stuck with a brick until they find the new sbf file.

likely you were on 2.3.4/4.5.629 update that came out 1 march 2012
and not much can be done till, SBF is leaked
if on verizon, take to store, and tell them the update, bricked your phone
they can either reflash, replace, or send to get reflashed
RSD Lite was created for stores to flash, but seems that they don't all do that anymore
if not, this could have happened, just from failed SBF, maybe
won't hurt to try [TOOL] ezSBF D2G
or check md5 check sum of SBF and use RDS Lite 5.6 or better or downgrade to older version

or check md5 check sum of SBF and use RDS Lite 5.6 or better or downgrade to older version

no D0.11 isn't new
is the problem
likely you were on 2.3.4/4.5.629 update that came out 1 march 2012
and not much can be done till, SBF is leaked
if on verizon, take to store, and tell them the update, bricked your phone
they can either reflash, replace, or send to get reflashed
RSD Lite was created for stores to flash, but seems that they don't all do that anymore
