Learn how to do it for free.

I will in time but whilst I'm trawling through the related threads to learn at least I found an easy fix for now I hope it will also help new comers and people that don't have an interest in learning but still want to change bits about the appearance... either way I think it was a good find and well worth sharing

Customize Maps/Navigation

Can anybody help me figure out how to customize the Google Navigation images? More specifically, I'm trying to change the navigation "arrow" that represents you as you move around the map. I've made the icons but don't know how to get it back into the program successfully. I've tried just installing straight up, I've tried resigning with Signapktic, and I've tried just restoring with My Backup Pro. None of these work. I've even tried just replacing the com.google.android.apps.xxxx.apk with my new apk. I'm at a loss. Is this just impossible?
I've looked around XDA and a few other forums but haven't even been able to find the slightest mention of anyone else trying to do this. I have a hard time believing I'm the only one who would want to customize this??
I don't think it's impossible because I've seen it done on gps's all the time. Maybe try resigning it on your computer then push it through ADB?
yikes, I never really figured out how to sign it on the computer. I'll read up to learn how and see how it goes. worse case scenario is I learn something

[Q] I have a serious question.

I need the mind of a good hacker. Somebody who knows the ins and outs of all these programs and how to make them work better.
My question is this:
Would it be at all possible to have an apk file that can extract necessary files on to the SD card to boot up as a temporary "recovery boot mode" that runs outside but next to your ROM?
Then how about adding a function on your phone (widget or an app) that will bring you to the "2nd operating system"? I guess that's what it'd be right? The thing that controls all the deleting and installing of new zip's... Anyways, make this 2nd operating system a lot more visually functional than the (clockworkmod recovery, xionia, etc..) other rec. modes.
I mean we're working with tiny laptops. These are computers, not "phones". They just make phone calls too. Why would you LEAVE a program in "MS DOS" mode? Spice it up, give it pictures...
Anyways... Bad rant but valid.
Let's wrap all of these up in one program. One "App". This app will scan what firmware you're using, use that info to disregard some roms from your selection and only allow you to flash a rom that will work with your phone or was made for your phone. Browse through working models of some of the mods (actually test function and design by looking at 1 to 4 interactive pages of the phone design (lock screen, how it looks when you rotate the rotary to unlock but does nothing else).
I have some ideas how this can be "realistically" done, but not the programming knowledge to know how to actually do any of this.
The thing is, if you can do this - I will bankroll you. Just making up for the time you spend doing this though. I'm not going to pay you like your boss does so don't quit. I mean we can work it out. 50 bucks a month or something. Just something so you can tell your friends and loved ones "I'm getting paid, let me get on the computer".
If it is possible to do and it gets done... **** man, I'll give you a thousand or something. We'll see how much I have at the time.
Let me know if you're interested so we can work out how much you will need.
Also, sorry whatever mod is reading this and about to ban me (I read the warning. sorry.)
I defend myself by saying that in no other forum could I find the specific target group for this question. This is exactly the people I need to ask this because this clearly isn't a question related to "Live wallpaper Deadmau5" as in the "Android Software Development" forum.
Anyways, if this idea even just gets done... that's the important part. Progress in technology. What a ****ing thrill...
*Disclaimer*
Seriously, if you take this idea and make money off of it... Well, just change your IP address so it doesn't match up with your current one and hope this site doesn't tell that you were on this page. Reading my post. That is time and date stamped. That will hold up in court that you did this idea after you read this post. Plus how long after you read this did you do it and is that about the time it takes to start right after you're done reading.
On a lighter note - You know this will make money. I'm already going to pay you. But if it's such a great idea, shouldn't I get at least half of the cut this makes on the market? You wouldn't be doing it if I didn't have this great ****ing idea.
TL;DR:
Can we flash a rom without rebooting first?
Uhh...you want a dual boot? I'm confused
sent from my epic 4g. with the key skips.
It is possible, at least on the HTC devices, or especially threw Desire HD:
We got Ubuntu running from a boot.img and if we flash something like that into the recovery partition, simply a boot.img as recovery-system, then it should boot and maybe we can build a simple Linux from scratch for it and enable fastboot somehow to get the simple features.
And maybe we can get something more out of it.
Or we just use a small Android.
But isn't the ROM Manager a little like your idea?
You can choose device-specific ROMs, flash them, do backups, you just got to reboot.
That's the only difference to your idea, isn't it?

[Q] android help anyone?

Well I got my galaxy s2 on release day and being a former crackberry addict I have no idea what to do with android. I understand that there are endless possibilities but I have no idea where to begin. Anyone know some stuff I can do to make my android experience simply better?
in same boat
i am not only new to andriod, i am new to smart phones. that said, i have had my andriod for a month. i have done a lot to it just by reading posts here and in andriod central. andriod central seems easier to navigate by phone choise than xda.
my wife is still a blackberry adict. after gettting my phone she wined about how much i could do. she still likes the blackberry and has found ways around the issue or boasted about something she could do that i cant.
this is just from reading about backberry so feel free to correct me if i am wronge. the PC device manager allows you to modify your phone. ie change theme, apps, ect.
the biggest issue most andriod owners have is that they cant get rid of the carriers apps(bloatware). most of these apps take up space, run when not in use, use up your ram. as far as i am aware the only way is to root(gain administrator acess) the phone. then you can get an app that will freeze the unused, unwanted apps(titanium backup, pay for version).you can also delete them, but i read it could be hazardes. recomend reading manual. i wont do it any justice, so info on rooting is everywere, i do suggest andriod central.
if you dont care about the apps then dont root. you cant get multiple home launchers,ie go launcher, launcher pro, adw launcher, theres more. i prefer go launcher, it lets you customize the most, ie change icons, the way the app drawer functions, the way icons function, different functions for the direction you slid your finger on the desktop.
with a rooted phone you can get custom roms to change the look and feel of the phone. what i understand flashing a rom to be is installing a new operating system, its like someone took andriod OS striped it down to just the OS and then added what they feel should be there for apps. generaly they just get rid of the bloatware, optimize the system, and a few usefull tools.
i have rooted my phone. sadly no custom roms yet. freezed most of my bloatware, freed up a lot of space. changed my desktop. got a wifi tether app so i can hotspot my phone with out having to pay for the data plan. any way i hope this helps. if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
to expand on the topic about rooting (assuming that you take this route), here are some rooting methods (android version-specific):
z4root (2.2/2.2.1)
SuperOneClick (2.2/2.2.1)
Gingerbreak (2.2.2)
everything you can possibly discover about your phone (roms, kernels, themes, etc) can be found in the sgsII's forum:

opinion: how google is a bootloop itself

Nowdays im trying to root my lg l70, and it isnt simple as it sounds. i have a little backgroung in root actions. but yet its hard since my smartphone isnt popular. during my attemps to root i had many prbleems(cant mount sd, win 7 doesnt recognize ext2 etc.). and i havent finished yet.
In gennerally all android subjects arent that easy. you always have to find other way\app\moudle\exposed\moded to do what you wanted. My first need of rooting was for improving my OS(getting externalSD permission). Google adds those things we want to thier OS but until we will have basic needs(such as youtube in backgroung insted of exposed or modded apk) i think android version will be 10.
Dont get me wrong i love android very much. those many option are good. but sometimes its just annoying to look for everything. in those time you start to wonder how iOS would be like in ways of simplicity..
My real point, is that during those searches for methods and stuff we use....... google search - the product from the company that brought us the need to look for methods in the first place.
So, like your phone sometimes stuck in bootloop - so is google.

Its not rooted, but I still want to change ALL the sounds...

Greetings!
About 10 years ago, I left the smartphone world.
Recently, with the retirement of everyone's CDMA equipment, I've been all but forced to start using a smartphone again (and I'm glad I did). I can see things have become a great deal more complicated than what they used to be...
I had unlocked my HTC Touch Pro and was able to get into and change anything there, because I had found an abundance of resources on this site for editing registry entries to change icons, sounds, and all sorts of other things I wanted to customize. That was a WIndows phone, of course, which appears to be nothing like Android's system.
But now I'm using an A71 5G (A716U), and though I've been able to find a lot of guidance in making the phone my own (much of it from here), I've not found any fruitful information about how to change those annoying system sounds outside of rooting or bootloader unlocking, neither of which I'll be doing. Screen taps, charge-start notifier, default notifications....don't like any of'em.
So, with all that, this is my question: Is there any way that some genius here might know of to customize any and every internal system audio file without rooting or using the bootloader unlock? I've spent a good deal of time over the last 4 weeks trying to find a method to make this happen, but every resource eventually comes down to having to root the phone.
...Along the same lines, I would also (of course) absolutely love to replace the entirety of the startup and shutdown splashes and sounds....
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer!
