Clockworkmod for the Mesmerize WORKING! - Samsung Mesmerize

With the help of jt1134, we managed to get clockworkmod installed and functional on a Samsung Mesmerize. This will assume you have the android SDK installed and some knowledge of how to use adb.
First off you need to have your phone rooted. This can be done with SuperOneClick. You will also need a couple of files, recovery.bin and redbend_ua, both of which are attached to this post.
You will need to install redbend_ua first extract the zip file then;
Code:
adb push path/to/redbend_ua /sdcard/redbend_ua
then you need to make it executable
Code:
adb shell
su
chmod 777 /sdcard/redbend_ua
Now you need to move it to the /system/xbin
Code:
adb shell
su
mv /sdcard/redbend_ua /system/xbin/redbend_ua
Extract the recovery.zip and then we push the recovery.bin to the sd card.
Code:
adb push path/to/recovery.bin /sdcard/recovery.bin
Finally we need to flash the recovery.bin
Code:
redbend_ua restore /sdcard/recovery.bin /dev/block/bml8
After this the only thing left to do is download Rom Manager from the market and install the clockworkmod for the Fascinate. This is working on my Mesmerize. Please leave feedback!

Nice! now if only I had a Mesmerize...

Congrats! Hope this gets US Cell folks more active...

hey guys this worked great for me! thanks. I ran into a problem though when trying to make the redbend_ua file executable while it was on my sdcard so i moved it to the root of my phone memory using root explorer, than I ran the command
adb shell
su
chmod 777 /redbend_ua
than to move the file I used the command
adb shell
su
mv /redbend_ua /system/xbin/redbend_ua
and than follow the remaining steps that thescorpion420 has posted up, it shouldnt take more than 5 minutes for the process, I am flashing a rom to my USCC mesmerize as we speak and I will report back!
Enjoy guys
And thanks to the devs for figuring this out.

rom
ok so i was able to install a rom and not get an error, however I am stuck on the samsung screen when the phone boots up, it makes the power on noise, however it wont start up. any suggestions?
I tried to reflash the phone with a different rom and here is what happens when I go to install the rom
Finding update package

deleting files
formatting system

Any ideas??

hey guys, I freaked out and didnt think I had made a successful backup of my rom before messing with it but I found it and I got the phone to go back to stock. So now I'm going to try a few things to see if I can get some roms to install on this thing.

Wow... Awesome news. Subbed for updates. Now to read some tutorials on how to get through the whole process... Won't be doing any flashing until I see someone confirm they got it up and running.

help
i getting failed on redbend _ua cross device link please help lol what am i doing wrong

You could try
Code:
cat /sdcard/redbend_ua > /system/xbin/redbend_ua

why do i keep getting permission denied on the last step of the recovery prosess

make sure you're using the root prompt # rather than the standard prompt $. This is why you're getting permission denied.
OKAY. So I have clockworkmod installed but when I try to backup my ROM it reboots into the recovery thing and then fails to update using the update.zip that clockwork downloaded. What should I do?

Just because you can get Clockwork Recovery for the Fascinate working with Rom Manager does not mean that you can start flashing Fascinate specific ROMs and/or kernels to your Mesmerize. You still have a Mesmerize and until the ROMs are made for the Mezmerize, or at least compatible, you can't use them. This is a great first step, though.
People are already pulling ROMs apart to make some of them compatible so it won't be too much longer.

I'll just leave this here . . .
Flash in clockworkmod not made by me, thanks jt1134.

[MOD][12/03/09] ADB Remount, Superuser, and Busybox

I'd been trying to figure out how to set up a few simple things in my rooted, post-MR, but otherwise stock CDMA Hero. Namely, ADB Remount permissions (/default.prop file), set up Superuser to properly manage permissions for apps that require root, and install Busybox. Ideally, I wanted to set these up manually. Turns out it's not as simple as one might hope. ADB Remount, for example, requires that you modify and repackage the boot.img/recovery.img.
So, what I've got here is a minimal update.zip file you can apply to your phone via the recovery console. Nothing crazy, it's just MoDaCo's ROM 1.1, but with everything taken out except for the aforementioned items. Once you patch your phone, just these items will be configured and your phone will still look, run, etc. the same as before. Also, a2sd will be copied to your /system/bin directory, but it's something that had to stay in the file for some reason, otherwise the phone wouldn't boot. Probably a setting Paul built into the boot.img.
In any case, here it is. It's working well for me. Hope it helps some of you out too.
****
Thanks goes to Paul of course (MoDaCo) camalot (Droid Explorer) and dagnasty for telling me about the auto-sign plugin that's available in Droid Explorer.

Yup. It's a script that was added to the boot.img-ramdisk that copies all of your apps to your sd when apps2sd's requirements are met.
So if the sdcard is not partitioned correctly then ap2sd will not run, yes?

"Correctly" is relative. If there is no EXT partition on the sdcard, then the ROM won't try to move your applications to it. But the script runs regardless.
Sorry, meant if sdcard isn't partitioned at all. Thanks for the answer.
flipzmode told me in another thread that even though this script is included, that doesn't mean that the update.zip i posted will enable apps2sd for anyone. there's more required in order to get it to work (i stripped most everything out).
A few simple questions. re -stock 1.56... rom
1) in the zip system folder, its refers to /xbin ; does that require that /system/xbin be pre-existent, or will it create it ?
2) busybox is in /system/bin on mine. Do I need to remove it?
a) if so then due to the "busybox --install -s /system/bin"
command , how do i remove the current symbolic busybox entry points?
b)have $PATH changes been applied to overwrite the current export
3) empty init.sh file?
4) google meta references?
I think I may understand the need to get bootstrap-"root" permissions established, is there another way as well?
Thanks for dealing with these noobie questions.
Thanks for this. worked out great.

sorry willy man. not sure what i can tell you. i'm pretty close to being a newbie myself. i never fully understood what the script was doing. i simply took the original modaco update and compared it to another script paul had posted on his forums last fall.
if you unzip the file, you should be able to see everything that's going on. the file structure is super simple, so modify it to suit your needs and give it a try. worst case, you'll need to revert to a nandroid backup. oh, and don't forget you'll need to sign the file and zip it back up in order to flash it onto the phone.
come to think of it, i guess maybe i should update the script using the latest modaco rom, though i'm not sure how helpful it'd be for everyone. to be honest, i've since bitten the bullet and moved on to flipz's rom and the gumbo kernel. runs beautifully!
Ok, so I formated the card, put the .zip file on the sdcard and tried to press home+power to enter the recovery council. When I hold home and press power I am taking to a screen that has an exclamation point and an image of the phone.
Can anyone help?

Boot the phone by holding home only. And...I'm assuming you have the recovery console installed and are rooted.
I think the problem is that a recovery boot image was not previously installed. A green screen with a set of options should've appeared.

I did root the phone but I am not familiar with the recovery council. I tried to search for this but was unsuccessful.
I just got my Hero last week so I am still new to all of this. Can you point me in the right direction?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=596879 explanation
code from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
13:
Code:
adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img /sdcard
Pushing is equivalent of copy the file to the root of your sdcard. By the time you finished reading this it should be done. You'll know its done because the ouput will say something like transferred X bytes in X secs.
14:
Code:
adb shell reboot
This will cause the phone to restart automatically. Wait till it is fully booted to continue.

Your google search didn't turn anything up on "recovery council" because the operative use would have actually been "recovery console"..

Recovery Console
Go to the recovery console by holding down home when you power your Android. In that menu, you should see something that says 'flash update from SD card'... or something like that... then you choose the .zip that he has so kindly provided us.
Oh, and you have to put the .zip file that he provided on the SD card if that isn't already obvious :/
I also renamed it update.zip once I copied it to my SD card. Hope this clears it up a little. I just rooted my Hero yesterday.. so I am on the same NOOB level.
Do I need to wipe before flashing this / will this wipe my phone if I flash it?

You shouldn't need to wipe your phone; however I really don't think it's a good idea to use this. I put this together last year when we were still running Android 1.5 so it's WAY out of date. Just go with Nfinite's ROMs. He keeps them almost completely stock (depending on which you choose) and they can serve as great back-up / go-to ROMs.

[BOOT ANIMATION] -- LCARS Custom Boot Animation by Jeremy Herrmann

LCARS boot animation replacement for SPRINT HTC EVO 4G ONLY
NEW METHOD USING SIGNED ZIP THANKS TO nebenezer
Download signed zip to sd and flash with recovery
Signed zip is in download section below.
NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE GALAXY TAB AS WELL, THANKS TO nobleskill
Link to Galaxy Tab thread here
OLD METHOD:
To install...
extract the zip file
reboot into recovery using rom manager
In the partitions menu select mount /system (or if using other recovery then manually mount /system through adb)
Code:
adb push [path to extracted bootanimation.zip] /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
adb push [path to extracted SPC_animation_final.mp3] /system/customize/resource/SPC_animation_final.mp3
adb reboot
I use this on my own phone and love it.... I am happy to answer questions about installation if they come up, but feel the need to post the usual disclaimer of.... while there is no reason this should do anything negative to your phone as long as you follow the directions, should you brick your phone or cause your phone to act goofy, or drop your phone in the toilet, neither the lcars custom boot animation or myself are in any way shape or form responcible for it. If you don't like that then don't download it.
EDIT: Screen Shots as requested
Had to attach because i'm apperently not verified to post images
Can we get some screenshots?
works amazing and i can rub it in all my star wars fans faces
Oh I love it thank you.
These are probably noob questions.
Does this need root? Do I unzip to the root of the memory card? I'm going to guess a rom manager does need root. Is the code only for adb and not if you have rom manager?

Yes you need root because you have to write to the /system partition.
It is easiest to do with ROM Manager's recovery which is why i gave instructions for that.
You extract the zip to your computer and use adb to push to the phone in the correct location.

Rooted, trying to reinstall deleted Stock.apk

I had a questions about restoring the deleted Stocks app. I rooted with the new unrevoked last night and then installed Titanium to remove apps. I prematurely removed the Stocks app and I have been trying to get it back since.
I've tried multiple routes, from this Wildefire thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738147 I tried the apk via adb and Root Explorer. Neither worked.
Then I downloaded the stock odexed EVO rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251, grabbd the stock.apk and moved it to my \system\apps folder with Root Explorer. I've restarted, tried clearing the Dalvik Cache, pushing it via adb, none have worked.
Right now it's still sitting in the \system\app folder.
I wanted to see if there was anything else I can try to get it back? Or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.
I take it you are running stock Rom. I think the best way is to make a nandroid of the stock Rom that you are running, with ClockworkMod. Once done download Myn's Rom or sprint lovers. Both of this Rom's have the stock Sprint apps. When flashing the Roms, please, make sure to use Rom Manager and flash ClockworkMod, than flash Amo-ra; is located at the buttom as an alternate recovery. Than once you flash the Rom, let it load, than flash clockworkMod again, than go into recovery, than restore, advance restore, select the newest nandroid, and just restore data. This will give you all the stock apps. OR just try this.

Here are some more apk's.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901393
grab the apk out of the stock rom you have, then in adb do this
adb remount
adb push Stock.apk /system/app
if you need to push the odex do this also
adb push Stock.odex /system/app
the important thing is the remount to make the system/app read write
you can go to the rom file open the file then open system then open app and add the apk you want and reload the rom into the phone that sit more simple

Yeah it doesn't work right if you are in recovery because it messes with permissions I heard. Just do it with phone plugged in to computer and on. If that doesn't work you can try deleting the apk and then using
Adb remount
Adb install stock.apk
Don't know if these will work but worth a try. Last resort is find a flashable zip that writes something to system/app and drop the apk in there.

cd /system/bin
chmod 777 flash_image
flash_image recovery /sdcard/LGL55C_recovery.img

1) i root with unlockroot pro again, all goes well. i check it and it is rooted.
2)i install a file explorer and term em. i also get cwm 6 because that is what i choose on first phone
3)i checked to make sure recovery image and flash image are named correctly, and put the on sdcard in the right spots.
4)i get su rights and try to get into /system/bin/ i get message "/system/: permission denied"
ive tried doing different ways of getting into just system and still get the same error message.
any help would be gratefully appreciated
again i did this on my first phone and it went flawlessly

replace the update.zip on the /root of the SD. No Odin required. Rename to update.zip, and place it straight on your SD.
That did not work until after I rooted it using RageAgainstTheCage
Re-upped by me here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?hn5ikyt6xpn8d9x
After doing that, then it allows the update.zip to work without failing signature check.
EDIT: Then I also used SuperOneClick to shell-root.

Ok guys the actual problem here is that there is a file missing that you need to push through to your "/system/bin" folder in your SK's root directory.
The missing file is the custom "recovery" binary file that krylon360 created. After doing so, either by ADB pushing the file or copy pasting it with a root file manager, you may boot into recovery then run the 'reinstall packages' command in the stock recovery. This in turn loads the new recovery.....
ALWAYS CHECK YOUR MOUNTS IN CUSTOM RECOVERY. It will save you an accidental pain in the ass. Trust me.
Mounts should look as follows:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-unmount /cache
-mount /data
-mount /sdcard (this sometimes says it is mounted-- not important)
-unmount /system (MOST IMPORTANT. IF IT DOES NOT READ AS THIS SAYS- THEN FIX THAT AND MOUNT IT BEFORE ANY BACKUPS OR WIPES. YOU WILL GET STUCK IN THE SCRIPT)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will see if I can host the file in my Dropbox. As for the help, it is available in many older posts already. But a hitting that thanks button couldn't hurt ;D

Thank you
I would like to say thanks to you all helping out with this. My lack of signing in here has to do with me not even having an Android-powered device anymore. I sold my SideKick and MyTouch together for about $250. I still come back here and look around every now and then, but see that a lot of you guys have it under control. So, once again thank you.:good:
