No Drag Select in WM6 and Multiple Dropdown menu?

Hello.
Coming from using Wm2003 I remember that on File Explorer, you could press down and then drag across the screen to select files. On my device (Its a generic PDA) that I purchased it is running WM6.1. On file explorer you cannot press down and drag to select multiple Items. Sure there is other ways but I really liked it how on wm2003 you can pressdown and then drag the stylus across the screen to select multiple items.
Does anybody know of any registry tweaks that can be used or settings that can enable this?
I have tried Resco file explorer but that doesn't have that feature either, instead you have to go to multiple file select mode which itself is rather time consuming compared to dragging to select.
The second question. I really liked it how WM2003 had separate dropdown menus' at the bottom. But on Windows Mobile 5/6 there is only ever 1 or 2 dropdown menus down the bottom. Most of the times one of them is "MENU" and you have to select that to get a dropdown menu to access all the other dropdwon menu's, In wm2003 they would be all visible separately.
Is there any tweaks to change this?

File explorer: It works fine on my WM6.1. If you have HTC device with TouchFLO scrolling, you have to press and hold for a short time and then drag (just before the tap-hold dots start appearing). BTW I recommend using Total Commander, because there are more ways how to select multiple items - by hold and drag or by pressing the ctrl button on toolbar and then just tap what you want to select.

It's not a HTC Device but a generic device out of china running a 6.1 ROM. If I hold on the Item it just right clicks it and brings the dropdown menu up.
I'm not sure if I have touchflo or not, something tells me I do as the touch behaviour is different to other PPC's i've used.
Let me explain. It acts like a Piece of paper. On any program that has a scrollbar, if I put the stylus in the middle of the screen, then drag stylus upward, the contents from the bottom of the page begins to show (Exactly if you have a long piece of paper and you put your finger down on it and push it upward) Here is a Video :

So as we see above when i drag stylus across the items it doesnt select them all, it just scrolls up and down!
Maybe there was different versions of file manager and some dont support dragging to select multiple items?

This is very difficult for me to describe, but every finger-scrolling software I've ever tried was some kind of "layer" on the screen. If you drag, the gesture is recognized by the "layer" and scroll is performed. If you tap and hold for very short while, the input is sent under the layer to the active program. So if you tap and hold for a while until the item is selected (highlighted) and then quickly drag, you should be able to select more items. But don't hold for too long time as it brings the dropdown menu.
I don't know if I'm clear enough, so I'll describe what happens when you tap and hold.
1. Scrolling software handles input and checks if you are dragging.
2. If you're not dragging and the drag-checking timeout has expired (usually something about 200ms), the input is sent to active program (file explorer).
3. So we've got the input in file explorer, the item under stylus should highlight.
4. This is the moment we should start dragging to select more items, because the dots signalizing you're opening dropdown menu start appearing and if you don't start dragging until all dots appear, the dropdown menu shows.
So it means you can do multiple actions with tap/hold/drag according to how long you hold the stylus down. If you just drag, it scrolls. If you hold for very short while (about 200ms) and drag, it should select more items. If you hold for longer while, it brings the menu.
EDIT: I'd like to show you, but I don't have any camera, only on my device

I tried your suggestion, does not work.
The dots begin appearing then i quickly goto drag, then the screen just scrolls up/down the items and dropdown doesnt appear, but no selected items, it doesnt select them just scrolls up/down the window

Strange, because this is how WM6.5 behave, not WM6.1. I'm sorry, but I think I cannot help you

It's weird, also when i drag across the screen then it begins scrolling, if I quickly take the stylus of the screen it will scroll for just a bit more then gradually slow down, like some sort of scrolling type interface.
Does anybody know what this could be?
Whether it's something that some WM6.1 Versions had? or whether it's something that Somebody has added onto this ROM? Is the UI action defined in any file that I can just change on the Windows folder with another file? Anyway to get rid of it?

I think you should just try another ROM as it seems to be somehow hardcoded in this one.

Problem is I'm not using one of the devices listed in the xda-developers site, it's a generic phone.
So there isn't any roms for it right?
I don't even know how to put it into diagnostic mode (to flash)

It's possible in the Details view, there you can drag on the left side to select multiple files.

Livven: That's true I forgot it, that's one of main things I'm not using Resco Explorer - I hated that sometimes it scrolls and sometimes it selects items (usually when I use device with my left hand) Anyway, I still recommend Total Commander because of its ctrl button and virtual 2 windowed mode - best comfort for manipulating with files

You can change it to Big Icons view, then it'll always scroll. I did the same.

How to launch a hidden activity?

I'm looking to make a 1x1 shortcut to launch this activity: com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker.UNLOCK
Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

Try:
-long press on desktop
-custom shortcut
-enter label name, click on "pick your activity" button
-choose between "Activities" (adw), "Any Cut", etc, then scroll down to the activity you mentioned

Unfortunately It's not in the list, hence the "hidden" in the title
I can see the app's activities, but not this specific one.

Create new Task
Name it Unlock or whatnot
Add from Misc category "Action Intent"
Action: com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker.UNLOCK
Target: Activity
(Leave the rest alone)
Click Done to finish setting the Action Intent
Tap the Icon button in the bottom to give it an Icon (to the left of the X)
Click Done to save the Task
Click Apply to save settings and exit Tasker setup

Well, no, tapping a single 1x1 button is faster than swiping (hold and drag). But that's not the reason I'm looking to do this. Namely, I don't want to waste a 4x1 row just to unlock when I don't need or want the sliders on either side (I have other widgets that I want to put on my lock screen )

Yes, Tasker costs money. But Tasker can do anything.
Here's a partial list of what Tasker does for me...
Home, Work, Meeting, Sleep profiles... Based on time AND location.
Turns on speakerphone when I'm on the phone and turn it face down
Downloads a zip file of data I want for geocaching daily, unzips it so it's ready to digest
Turns up the volume and backlight when Waze (GPS Nav) is running
Backs up my dcim dir (10 minutes) using rsync, as images sometimes go poof
Pings me at 7:20 that it's time to get out the door with my kid to get her to school
Responds to specially tagged email or sms with info such as GPS location, phone number, last call in and out
Sends the same info above to a fixed number if my phone number changes (SIM gets swapped)
Reminds me if I've missed a phone call every N minutes
Gives me extra notification for important emails so I know to look right away
Uploads my current GPS coordinates to my website every 10 minutes
Backup my SD card over Wifi nightly
That's most of the list I have.. Some people have it read SMS to them while in the car, chime N number of times for the time (coo-coo clock).. Some of these (like back up the SD card) requires more stuff (fixed ssh client, generating keys, rsync, etc) but most of the above are all Tasker. Think of Tasker as a GUI interface to create programs (tasks) that run under specific circumstances (Contexts) that executes about anything in the Android API or beyond (it can use Locale plugins, including the Execute plugin etc..)
I can't imagine Android without it. And in case you're curious, what effect on battery life? None that I've ever measured. When I first started using it I monitored battery life for several days and noticed no increase in usage.

Just disable the lock sliders in Widget Locker, and enable one of the button unlocks.
EDIT: Ok, I did it. Unfortunately, my method requires "ShorterCut" from the market (paid app) but much cheaper than Tasker. There may be other ways. Here's what I did.
1. Go to WL and add shortcut
2. Select ShorterCut from the shortcut list
3. Select empty shortcut
4. Go to "Edit Intent"
5. In the first field labeled "Action" put:

Is it possible to do this with AnyCut?
The fields are Action / Data / Type, and I'm not sure which one to use for the "Component". I got a LauncherPro force close... Weird.

EDIT: Just tried with Bettercut, and same thing happened to me as it did to you. Uninstalling that crap.

I might be missing what you are wanting to do, but you just want to press one button to unlock Widgetlocker correct? I have it installed and in Settings/ Buttons & Imputs there is an option to "Back Button Unlock". I have that checked and all i have to do is hit the back button and it unlocks it for me. There is also an option to unlock with the camera button and/or trackball.

Yes but I don't want it to unlock accidentally, which is possible if using the "back button unlock" feature. And if you put the timer on it, then it just becomes annoying to unlock.

sorry to dig up an old thread but what home app are you using, if you are using a third party app like apex or nova you can just put a shortcut on your widget locker screen to launch that app. thats what i was doing for a while.

#1 – Never lose your S Pen!
The S Pen is integral to the power of the Galaxy Note 3 – not something you want to lose. Here’s how you can set the Note 3 to alert you that you may have left the stylus behind:
Go to Settings > Controls > S Pen
Uncheck “Turn off pen detection”
Check S Pen keeper
This will only work when the screen is off, and if you press “okay” when it warns you once, it won’t warn you again until you redock the S Pen and leave it behind again. So be careful!
#2 – Control your Galaxy Note 3 while wearing gloves
The capacitive screen on the Note 3 isn’t only good for writing and drawing with a stylus, it can also be set to operate while wearing gloves, but you’ve got to enable the option:
Go to Settings > Controls > Increase touch sensitivity (it’s the very last option)
Turn this ON!
#3 – Type with one hand
The Galaxy Note 3 is HUGE which may turn some small-handed people away, but if difficulty in one-handed typing is a concern, please know you can adjust your keyboard accordingly!
Go to Settings > Controls > One-handed operation
Check “Use for all screens”
Only check other boxes if you want them automatically resized all the time
The S Pen also makes typing with Swype an absolute pleasure… give that a try as well!
#4 – Block notifications while you’re sleeping
You don’t want to miss an important call or text from a family member or friend in case of emergency, but notifications from apps and drunk dialing idiots threaten to keep you up all night. And those stinking LED notification lights are BRIGHT! Luckily the Note 3 has a feature for this specific problem called “Blocking Mode”:
Go to Settings > Device > Blocking Mode (the last option)
Turn the feature on
Press “Blocking Mode” to set options
UNCHECK “Turn alarm and timer” unless you want to be late for work
UNCHECK “Always” and set the time period you’re sleeping (otherwise turn this feature on/off at night and in the morning)
MAKE SURE you set your list of “Allowed Contacts” who can bypass this feature (family, friends, booty calls, etc…)
#5 – Lower the screen saturation and contrast
Is Samsung’s outrageously bright and colorful Super AMOLED screen a little TOO bright and colorful? You can do more than lower the screen brightness and instead tone down the contrast and saturation:
Go to Settings > Device > Display > Screen Mode
Select “Professional photo” or “Movie” to tone down the screen if you feel the colors are too vibrant
It doesn’t have a huge impact but it can certainly help.
#6 – Vibrations too strong?
The default notification vibrations are pretty darn strong! You can turn them down:
Go to Settings > Device > Sound > Vibration Intensity
Adjust your incoming call, notification, and haptic feedback vibrations as you see fit!
You can also set your phone to vibrate even when ringing (great if you’re at a bar, party, concert, or other loud place) and change the pattern of the vibration from the same settings area.
#7 – Show the battery percentage in the status bar
It can be really annoying trying to guess how much battery you have left by estimating how much of your little icon is filled up with green. We want numbers! Here is how you can put your exact percentage in the notification bar:
Go to Settings > Device > Display
Scroll down and select “Show battery percentage”
Ah… much more helpful.
#8 to #12 – Motion controls annoying? Only enable these!
Samsung has a boat load of features that detect your eyes and your hands and attempt to behave automatically based on your intents. Most can be annoying but some are pretty useful. I recommend turning ALL of them off except the following. Go to the Settings > Controls > Motion Control section for all of the below:
See notifications without touching your phone!
Air gesture > Quick Glance > On. Wave your hand over the screen for a quick look at notifications. (Turn Air jump, Air browse, and Air call-accept off)
Added Stylus hovering functionality!
Air view mode > On > Auto. This provides extra features when hovering over items with the S Pen, for example popping up larger images when browsing the gallery or scrolling pages up/down. Open “Air view pen options” to see exactly where it works.
Special Air Command Features!
Air Command > On: Quickly add recent attachments and frequent recipients by hovering over these respective fields
Turn both Motions & Palm Motions OFF
Prevent screen from sleeping when you’re looking at it!
Smart Screen > Smart stay > On. Uncheck the rest of these features.
#13 – Search for settings
Already overwhelmed? You can now search your settings to more easily find hidden options!
From the home screen press the Menu button
Select “Settings”
Tap “Search” at the top and have at it! Don’t forget this feature is here… it’s very useful.
#14 – Customize your quick settings buttons
Prefer to have different quick setting toggles in your notification bar? You can change them easily:
Pull down the notification bar
Tap the square icons at the top right
Tap the pencil icons at the top right
Drag available buttons to the Notificaion panel (you’ll have to replace an existing button)
Re-order as you like by dragging and dropping
#15 to #18 – Customize your lock screen
Your lock screen can be more than just a lock screen… you’ve just got to set it up. You can find all of these options in:
Settings > Device > Lock Screen.
15) Add quick launch icons to your lock screen.
Shortcuts > On. Further customize by tapping the icons and selecting your own quick launch apps!
16) Add widgets to your lock screen
Multiple Widgets > On > Favorite Apps. The “Camera” option is relatively useless since you can set a quick launch icon (above) to your camera and it launches much more quickly and smoothly.
17) Personalize with contact info and personal message
If you lose your phone, it’s helpful if your screen shows your contact information so a good samaritan can help you retrieve your device. You might also want to add a little of your own pizzaz.
18) Create a memo without unlocking
Action Memo on lock screen > On. To create an “Action Memo” without unlocking your phone, simply hold down the S Pen button and tap anywhere on the lock screen twice. An Action Memo note will immediately pop up at your disposal! Make sure the setting is enabled in

#26 – Prevent Air Command from launching when stylus removed
Air Command is greatly, but you might get restless if the menu pops up EVERY time you remove the Stylus. You can choose to turn this off (or toggle to automatically open Action Memo, which is probably more annoying).
Go to Settings > Controls > S Pen > Pen detachment options
Select “None”
#27 – Capture screen without S Pen & Screen Writer
To get a screen capture without using Air Command, simply hold the Home and Power Button at the same time. You can also prevent the screen captures from entering edit mode by going to Settings > Device > Display > Edit after screen capture (the last option)
#28 – Turn your phone into a Senior Citizen Saver
Did you buy the Galaxy Note 3 for Grandma or Grandpa because they don’t need a telescope to read the print on the HUGE 5.7 inch screen? Make things even simpler by transforming their phone into an incredibly basic layout that’s hard to NOT understand.
Go to Settings > Device > Easy Mode
Turn it on!
#29 – Display your app drawer in alphabetical order
If you’ve got a ton of apps, flipping through page after page to get to something specific can be a hassle. You can change the layout of your app drawer very easily to make it more convenient:
Open you app drawer
Press the menu button
Press “View type”
Select either “Alphabetical list” or “Alphabetical grid” depending on your preference
#30 – Unlock your phone by saying “Hi Galaxy”
I’ve seen many people complain that saying “Hi Galaxy” won’t work and they can’t find the option in the Note’s settings. That’s because the option is actually hidden in the settings of the S Voice app!
Open S Voice (double tap Home Button or open from your app tray)
Press the Menu button
Select “Settings”
Check “Wake up command”
Turn “Voice wake-up” On to activate S Voice even while the screen is off!
Note: “Hi Galaxy” won’t simply unlock you’re phone… it must be followed by a voice command to become useful (see below)

^^ This feature won't work if you have it switched on and the 'Palm Motions' off. So, if you want to use the above feature, make sure to switch the Palm motion on.
Also, there are a lot more features which I thought were not working in my phone at first, but then I realised that we need to switch on some other features to make them work. Hence, if you think that any of the motion feature doesn't works on your phone then switch on all, yes all of them and then try it. It should probably work then!

When I tried this using the timer, it never turned off, I missed a call next morning about a job interview.

I recommend turning ALL of them off except the following. Go to the Settings > Controls > Motion Control section for all of the below:
See notifications without touching your phone!
Air gesture > Quick Glance > On. Wave your hand over the screen for a quick look at notifications. (Turn Air jump, Air browse, and Air call-accept off)
Added Stylus hovering functionality!
Air view mode > On > Auto. This provides extra features when hovering over items with the S Pen, for example popping up larger images when browsing the gallery or scrolling pages up/down. Open “Air view pen options” to see exactly where it works.
Special Air Command Features!
Air Command > On: Quickly add recent attachments and frequent recipients by hovering over these respective fields
Turn both Motions & Palm Motions OFF
Prevent screen from sleeping when you’re looking at it!
Smart Screen > Smart stay > On. Uncheck the rest of these features.

Already overwhelmed? You can now search your settings to more easily find hidden options!
From the home screen press the Menu button
Select “Settings”
Tap “Search” at the top and have at it! Don’t forget this feature is here… it’s very useful.
#14 – Customize your quick settings buttons
Prefer to have different quick setting toggles in your notification bar? You can change them easily:
Pull down the notification bar
Tap the square icons at the top right
Tap the pencil icons at the top right
Drag available buttons to the Notificaion panel (you’ll have to replace an existing button)
Re-order as you like by dragging and dropping
#15 to #18 – Customize your lock screen
Your lock screen can be more than just a lock screen… you’ve just got to set it up. You can find all of these options in:
Settings > Device > Lock Screen.
15) Add quick launch icons to your lock screen.
Shortcuts > On. Further customize by tapping the icons and selecting your own quick launch apps!
16) Add widgets to your lock screen
Multiple Widgets > On > Favorite Apps. The “Camera” option is relatively useless since you can set a quick launch icon (above) to your camera and it launches much more quickly and smoothly.
17) Personalize with contact info and personal message
If you lose your phone, it’s helpful if your screen shows your contact information so a good samaritan can help you retrieve your device. You might also want to add a little of your own pizzaz.
18) Create a memo without unlocking
Action Memo on lock screen > On. To create an “Action Memo” without unlocking your phone, simply hold down the S Pen button and tap anywhere on the lock screen twice. An Action Memo note will immediately pop up at your disposal! Make sure the setting is enabled in

When you’re on the home screen the following buttons provide extra functionality.
19) Hold back button to enable/disable Multi Window
20) Double Press Home Button for S Voice
21) Hold Home button for Recent Apps and access to RAM Manager and Google Now
22) Press Home Button for My Magazine
23) Swipe up from the home button for My Magazine
24) Hold Menu Button for S Finder
25) Press Menu Button to edit your Home Screens, access settings, and read help docs
#26 – Prevent Air Command from launching when stylus removed
Air Command is greatly, but you might get restless if the menu pops up EVERY time you remove the Stylus. You can choose to turn this off (or toggle to automatically open Action Memo, which is probably more annoying).
Go to Settings > Controls > S Pen > Pen detachment options
Select “None”
#27 – Capture screen without S Pen & Screen Writer
To get a screen capture without using Air Command, simply hold the Home and Power Button at the same time. You can also prevent the screen captures from entering edit mode by going to Settings > Device > Display > Edit after screen capture (the last option)
#28 – Turn your phone into a Senior Citizen Saver
Did you buy the Galaxy Note 3 for Grandma or Grandpa because they don’t need a telescope to read the print on the HUGE 5.7 inch screen? Make things even simpler by transforming their phone into an incredibly basic layout that’s hard to NOT understand.
Go to Settings > Device > Easy Mode
Turn it on!
#29 – Display your app drawer in alphabetical order
If you’ve got a ton of apps, flipping through page after page to get to something specific can be a hassle. You can change the layout of your app drawer very easily to make it more convenient:
Open you app drawer
Press the menu button
Press “View type”
Select either “Alphabetical list” or “Alphabetical grid” depending on your preference
#30 – Unlock your phone by saying “Hi Galaxy”
I’ve seen many people complain that saying “Hi Galaxy” won’t work and they can’t find the option in the Note’s settings. That’s because the option is actually hidden in the settings of the S Voice app!
Open S Voice (double tap Home Button or open from your app tray)
Press the Menu button
Select “Settings”
Check “Wake up command”
Turn “Voice wake-up” On to activate S Voice even while the screen is off!
Note: “Hi Galaxy” won’t simply unlock you’re phone… it must be followed by a voice command to become useful (see below)

Do you want a start menu to start apps conveniently from any screen of Android phone ?

Contacts app crashing

Hi, does anyone have similar problem I got, or even better, a solution to fix it.
If I open phone dialer, type in a number and tap the "Create new contact" (+ at top right) button and select "Create new contact" all I can see is contact photo preview and "Cancel" & "Save" buttons at bottom. No fields for any contact information.
After couple seconds the app closes, phone goes back to home screen and I get the pop-up saying "Contacts keeps stopping".
Nice to have phone where you can't add contacts to.
