What I do is:use 7zip and put all my apps in /system/app folder, that way if I factory reset the phone all my apps get installed plus they also open up and perform faster in /system/app folder.I used minimist version of Syndicate rom,i have about 20-30 apps,20 live wallpapers, custom ringtones nd themes,3 launchers and with all that my rom is only 124mb!

do u put all the apps from a rom and do it that way then replace it on a new rom?
& yea i can't believe how people are acting in theese forums.when did it become the devs job to make something for them then they just complain pretty sad 8^/

1 install any rom
2 install all the apps u need
3 use an app to make backup of apps u installed(i use and recomend AppControl, its really usefull) but you can user other apps,i think ES FileManager makes backups also.
4 Copy apps u pulled to ur pc
5 I usially get minimilst rom like aosp or syndicate and remove everything I dont need(stock browser, ringtoned, etc),just open up any rom with 7zip,delete apps u dont want and add the apps u pulled to /system/app folder
6 Now u have a custom rom that u can install
Hope this helps,i have posted GalaxyBlue rom on here,u can try it out its based on oasp magic its fast with some really nice apps included,i made new version based on syndicate also but I wont post it cuz alot of people dont appriciate sht on here.

If I do this, will the market show these apps as being installed? Also, is there a way to backup data for certain apps like Angry Birds?

Yes they will show up in market or about 90% of them will show up.
As far as large games go u don't wanna put them in /system/app folder but install them regular or put them in /sdcard/data folder in your rom but you also gonna have to mod MANIFEST.MF file,to make it short its not worth the trouble for large games-just install them regular thats what i do.

First of all, you don't need root to use transparent widgets or change your lockscreen. There's a thread full of transparent widgets here on xda. You do need root to use transparent versions of system apps. You can change your lockscreen by purchasing the app Widgetlocker or flashing a custom rom that comes with a different lockscreen. The lockscreens you generally see in screenshots are from WidgetLocker, though. It's a great app & fully customizable... more than worth the $3.
Before changing any system settings, you'll need to do a nandroid backup via your recovery. This way, if you change anything and it screws up, you can restore from a working backup. You can also use Titanium Backup to backup your apps & data.
But really, the first thing you need to do is read. Read all of the stickies in your device-specific forums. Read everything you can until you understand, if you don't you could end up doing damage to your phone.
Oh, and you may need to install busybox to get some root apps to work. You can acquire it through the busybox installer in the market, or Titanium Backup. In TB, hit menu, choose "problems?" then choose to install busybox.

It is not safe to move everything to your sd card. Widgets, launchers, and a lot of system apps are not okay to move. Don't move any kind of alarm either. Third party apps that aren't what I already mentioned should be fine to move. System apps that need to run constantly are not okay. If you don't know what it is, don't move it. Stuff like the calculator would be fine. The phone app wouldn't. Plus, and I could be wrong, but moving system apps does not give more room for third party apps, but gives more space to the system partition. I could be way off, so you may want to look into that.

Hmmmph, well it worked fine for me before I was rooted. I installed modded apks all the time, just not of system apps. It may have helped to uninstall first then install the new app. Since what makes the widget transparent is stored in a res/drawable folder in the apk, it could've been the apk that you downloaded. Or I guess it could've been the method of installation. As I said, worked fine for me.

You should be fine moving third party apps as long as they don't have widgets that you use. If you're using a third party launcher like ADW or LauncherPro, don't move that. Other than that you should be okay.
If you're having a hard time downloading apps from the market, try going into settings, applications, manage applications, then choose the "all" tab. Find the market app and force stop it. Then clear cache & clear data, then relaunch the app. That should help. If not, you can try using AppBrain along with Fast Web Installer to download apps from the market. I've found this method to actually be faster for me. If you can't get to the market to download the apps, let me know & I'll post the apks for you. Once you've downloaded the Fast Web Installer, you need to open it & follow the instructions to allow it to install apps for you.
Flashing a custom rom might fix your problems as well.
Oh, and no worries, I'm always happy to help out. This community has done great things for me - I try to give back when I can

Yes. You cant uninstall by the way, you need to go to /system/app using root explorer and delete the corresponding apks. Eg. maps.apk. you need to be rooted too
Cheers

How to install gingerbread stock camera or MIUI camera app on ICS stock ROM ?

Hello
Tried install both of these on stock ICS and checked "unknown source" , didn't allow me ...
Can I do it using CWMR ?
Thanks
im not sure if this will work but its worth a shot.
when youre in the rom that you want a system application from get the app called "system app backup" i believe cm made it but dont quote me. Then backup the app you want and save it to your sd card. after copy it to your computer and install the rom you want to have on your phone, once again install system app backup on your phone and recover the app you would like to have on your system.
the only thing that i have done close to this is replace the stock launcher.apk with "launcher 7".
always remember to backup, and if this works let me know!

You might have luck with the MIUI camera but the GB one is most likely a no go (all kinds of changes in ICS that should prevent GB system apps from working). If you really want to try it then you can use a file explorer with super user permissions (estrongs or root explorer come to mind) and move the .apk to /system/app and change the permissions to match other system apps.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but in case someone actually stumbles on it, here is the answer.. this should be easy. If you can get apktools working on your computer(google is your friend) you decompile the app you want, along with the app it would be in conflict with. The android system has a list of SYSTEM apps that are able to use the same features.. anyways, once you decompile both apks, copy the manifest.xml and meta-info folder(and contained folder) from the built in app(in this case the ICS camera) into the decompiled app you want to install(gingerbread camera), then you recompile the one you want to add(you can just leave the original app installed and delete the one you decompiled). Make sure you give the gingerbread app a different name, and it will work. Literally, I just tested it(it is that quick and easy once you have apktools setup), and it seems to install/work just fine.
Some FEATURES of the app might not work- like you may not be able to preview the pictures you take with it in the system gallery, but all the settings and whatnot of the actual camera app should be built into the apk itself-- besides 4.0.3+ has app associations, you may be able to use that to get some features working by making it your default camera..
Anyways, pretty sure that would help- good luck.

[Q] custom gapps with purchased apps

i want to make a custom gapps.zip with purchased apps. its only for my own phone (same google-acount). i dont want to reinstall all apps, it needs to many time.
how can i extract/porting purchased apps from my phone for a custom gapp-zip?
i only know, i can use an original gapp-zip but cant rezip it, have to open it with winrar and drag`n`drop it... right?
i want to do this because i want to be the maintainer of the HTC One X (endearovu) and dont have a second one... not enough money... but next month i buy a second
its NOT for ilegal use!!!
You can make a new one for your system and user apps. If you know anything about using adb you can manually make flashable zips of your apps and read how to use adb from here.
http://varunbpatil.github.io/2013/03/02/apps-zip/
If you want to use an app to automatically do it you can try ZipMe app from the Google Play Store. I don't know how good it is. I use titanium backup most times. Test it on one app first. ZipMe has worked on my phone.
Make a zip of apps or data or apps + data and then copy it to sd card or to a usb storage then you can flash it using a custom recovery or some other way. Titanium Backup Pro can do it but it's the paid version that has the extra things like making zips.
You can make a nandroid backup then use the nandroid manager app to extract apps and data from the nandroid backup.
I would wipe cache and dalvik cache when flashing any zips before restarting or while in recovery before starting

jyes if you see the fine deathnote font on a 10" screen with 1280x800 where the fine lines betwen the pixels goes lost and see the font (theoretical... dont works ) on a 720p screen with 4,7" that can show the fine lines...
however it feels stupid to use an tablet with a lower resolution than my phone...

[LP][5.X][XPERIA] Debloating Script For Performance , battery Life and more memory

Hey guys, I sharing debloating script for those interested in a higly DEBLOATED LP installation, very slimmed down, battery friendly, faster, with less RAM comsuption etc
It will remove everything that is not important so before proceding be sure to backup full system
RESULT
As said at the top, you'll get a very slimmed down LP FW, battery friendly, very fast, with less RAM comsuption etc
Of course, everything is working great here, I mean all the features I need/use!
you are going to delete more than 160 packages in total with all relevant libs/stuff plus all applications automatically installed by Sony
HOW TO RESTORE SOMETHING
PS. of course I also removed from my FW all the stuff that can be easily downloaded from the Play Store (Gmail, etc)
below you will find the restoring instructions you need to follow to restore any package you may want back
According to what you want to restore, you have to follow two different procedures:
- all the APKs that are inside /system/__Backup/various/etc_custom_apps and /system/__Backup/various/etc_prod_apps are regular APKs that are going to be installed in /data, so you can just run them and then select "install" like a normal APK, easy. You will then see them in Settings > applications > downloaded
- instead, all the things in /system/__Backup/system_app and /system/
__Backup/system_priv-app folders can't be normally installed, but must be restored in the correct /system folders with correct permissions. To do this, see the step-by-step instructions below (in the following example, I am going to restore Chrome app in /system/app and Velvet (Google Search) in /system/priv-app, but of course you can restore how many things as you want at the same time)
Click to collapse
- with a root file manager like ES, go to /system/__Backup/system_app and MOVE the whole "Chrome" folder to /system/app
- with a root file manager like ES, go to /system/__Backup/system_priv-app and MOVE the whole "Velvet" folder to /system/priv-app
- reboot
- done
Click to collapse
PS. don't copy but MOVE things back, or permissions will get messed up and you are likely to end up in a bootloop!
Requirements:
- working recovery
- be on LP already, 5.0.2 or 5.1.1, doesn't matter

If you apply my script again please take care I did a pretty massive debloat as I don't use a lot of stuff (social apps, small apps, many of the sony "addons"/special settings etc!!) and this is a working config for me, but for others some functionalities will be probably missing, so mind what you do before apply them! (but again you can restore anything anytime, if interested just go for it)

So as far as any external application goes, it would think this looks like a non custom rom.
There is a popular apk at the moment that denies working because you have a custom rom or if your rooted

Pokémon Go knows if your phone is rooted or a custom rom and won't load.
Do I need to root my phone?
Is all that happens is that things are deleted and not a customisation?

I don't think this will happen.. Because it is not a custom rom and also this is not root.. This only need recovery to install and root to reinstall the apps..
Where do I find a working recovery that doesn't need root?
It's awesome!
