[Q] Task killer linked to Hardware key? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
But I was wondering if it's possible to be able to Kill all apps with a hardware button as if it were linked to a task killer, for example whenever you press the search key all apps get closed
Thanks

Not trying to be rude, but why would you want that?

Thought of it earlier, Just seems easier than havin to bull down the status bar and close apps in three clicks when you could do it with one on an unwanted hardware button
But I see what you mean

Yes it was in the wrong section but not by much , i moved it 4 u.
To your question yes its possible but i dont know of any one click programs to do this.
I currently have my long press search set to advance task killer, its close enough for my needs, task killer and switcher in one.
I use a program called LauncherKey, its $ on market if memory serves me but its free here on xda, with it u can set any app to long press search.

Program Memory Loss

Does anyone else have this weird memory problem. So I start my day off with my in use program memory at about 49%. Check a couple emails, turn on my wifi, make a few calls and by noon my in use program memory creeps up and up. I close all applications and have nothing running and keeps going up till my TC is virtually freezing up. Any insight?
Thanks,

Well, Windows Mobile alone usually does not close apps. It only minimizes them.
Make sure you have installed HTC Task Manager aka HTC X Button or another task manager like WkTASK. These apps have the ability of really closing the app and thus making memory available.

Do you have it set to close apps on X tap, close apps on tap and hold or disabled?

Then try switching to WkTask. In my opinion it's the best task manager available for the mobile. Amongst other things, it shows you cpu usage and running processes.

Thanks I will try it and post my results. The memory leak is very slow but is annoying to see.

Yeh that was a question that I was asking since day one. If you want to kill it just go to end all or click on the moxiar icon when you see it on systempanel app list.
Better enough open all your important apps, exclude them. Then go to your home screen then add the system panel widget. Its a direct end all function.
also try eRay
Or.. even better, don't do any of that.. and just let the phone sort itself out.. I've got no task managers etc. on my phone and I've had it on for 14 hours now, with moderate use... and I've only used 34%.. 2.5% per hour, roughly... and it runs like a dream too..

[MOD] Remap Search Button to Camera

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837271
This is not mine, but I found it useful as I don't care for the search button as a search button. By looking at the melfas-touchkey.kl in keylayout it seems that the keys can be remapped to whatever you want by simply changing them using a script editor like BBEdit on Mac or notepad++ on a PC. Mapping the search key to the camera, personally I'm getting a 30% failure rate, which isn't good, but some people aren't having the same problems.
Something to look into if you are interested.
Kudos to thatdudebutch over in the Fascinate forum for this, btw.
I wondered about this as well, what do you mean failure rate? You would think remapping would be cut and dry there must be a step missing?

By failure rate, I mean that about 30% of the time that I click the button the app closes automatically or fails to open. In the thread, there are several people who have the same problem, but others that don't. I'm not sure what the deal is, but when I get time I am going to do an adb logcat to see what exactly is happening.
Will this only open if I'm not using an app? I usually use the search button in the browser

[Q] Remapping search button on startscreen to contactlist search?

Since im not a big fan of bing and the app is useless for search results in my country, i dont like the search button at all and it annoys me when I accidently press it and a useless picture with a textbox comes up... now that this problem is solved with the instant start hack its less of a big deal.
However it would be much nicer if we could map this searchbutton to a contactlist search, like when in the people hub hitting search. Having this same action on the main page. Idk if this is possible, since it is possible to tap into the browser search button, maybe it is possible to change the action for the homepage, or something else.
Anybody an idea?
would like to remap that button, too.
For now I just deleted that button, by removing websearch.exe in /windows/ . should be possible to copy another file to that location

Cool, however I have samsung and cant acces the file explorer. Do you know if there is a link to that file specified in the registry? So we could just modifie that link and see what it does.

There is something comming up which can replace the search button for something nicer, they have still some hurdles to overcome but its comming along pretty nicely i believe and it will truly add a usefull function instead of no results bing

Does disabling it on the home screen impact the button's functionality in it's other uses, such as search within Marketplace?

I have no idea, but for us the whole bing thing is useless so i never use it. Have to navigate to google.com to get the results i want to have. However to call somebody it would be really useful to have it working as people search. I dont mind if this behaviour is universal.
However i hope we will have a fully functional taskmanager soon which will override the bing app

Disable search button?

Hi,
i know it's been asked before on other phones, but is it possible on the Sensation?
Thanks
Why would you want to disable it?
Anyway you can use "Launchkey" from market to change its function or launch an application with it.
Secondly you can use 'Button Remapper' to disable it aswell..
