[Q] [ALL] Any Google Talk/Yahoo Messenger compatible apps for the WP7? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any applications for chatting on Google Talk (I believe it's the Jabber/XMPP protocol) and/or Yahoo Messenger available for WP7?
Specifically, I have an LG Optimus 7.

Same question here - anybody interested in starting a homebrew effort?

IM+ is coming, hopefully sooner rather than later.
I imagine the lack of socket support makes things a little more difficult for developers.

I heard Yahoo had a webapi (http)? I would try but it's christmas season and I got deadlines to meet at work, with a webapi a yahoo client should be easy to develop

+1 for a yahoo messenger

This, Flory works very well.

Sorry for bringing up old thread.
I just got a WP7 today (T-Mobile HTC HD7)
I'm looking for Flory but can't find it.
Did a few Google searches and found that International English versions is out in the marketplace... but I can't find it?
Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: gah lame, they stopped because IM+ is out.

N/M, it's not out... Flory stopped their app because IM+ is coming out.... sigh.
What's with WP7 devs man? I'm finding a lot are like that, great app then a few weeks later, take it off the market for some stupid reason.

You won't see much until Mango because the API's developers need to really make IM's work isn't in current OS builds. Flory was horrid, and I don't think IM+ will be that great as it still needs to rely on a 3rd party server system to do notifications.
There is also no multitasking until Mango which is needed for the ability to have it run in the background and notify you when somebody sends you a message.

yea i need 1 to

Just released a free version 0.9 with a feedback button.

Messenger "There is a problem with the server"

Hi all,
I am having trouble signing into Windows Live Messenger on my XDA Serra (HTC Touch Pro).
It only happens with my main Windows Live account - when I sign in with my old account Messenger works fine.
The message I get is:
There is a problem with the server. Please try again later.
I have contacted Microsoft and they have "escalated" the problem within their tech support department but ultimately they have not been any use. In the last e-mail I got from them they suggested contacting my carrier. I had already contacted o2 and they said they cannot help in this issue. I am pretty convinced it is a problem relating to my Windows Live account. Hard Reset of the device has not helped.
Please if anyone can help or has had similar experiences post here!
Thanks,
Matt
Bump...
Went to all the trouble of creating a new account, it worked for a couple of days and now it's failing again.
Please help! :-(

I'd never seen this problem until a few days ago. My connection and internet access are still rock-solid, but suddenly I haven't been able to sign into messenger. I re-flashed the custom ROM I've been using, but that didn't fix it. I suspect either AT&T is trying to force me to use their proprietary IM client (presumably so they can charge me for text messaging) or it is indeed something wrong with my Live account.
Please help me too!
Help me too!! That makes three of us. Im using MSN over EDGE/GPRS and it won't sign in for me too. I keep getting requests of contacts that have added me..and when I click on allow, it says "There was a problem with the server". Sometimes, it just wont sign in at all, come what may.
Wow, I'm quite relieved that it's not just me!
Have you guys tried signing in over Wi-Fi? It doesnt matter what connection I use, I can never sign in.
Have you guys updated your MSN client PC side to the new 2009 version? Apparently (after I started having hassle with my Touch Diamond today) as soon as you sign in to MSN PC side on the new 2009 client with multi-sign in it renders your account buggered and in turn WinMo won't sign in no matter what you hard-reset or install.
Try an old account that has never signed in to 2009 version and your fine.

Yep this is the conclusion I have come to.
Sadly, Microsoft customer services really don't want to know. I have been in email discussion for over a month, and they are truly useless.
I guess we're at the development team's mercy, if they know or even care about this problem.
It can't be that difficult to sort out for them. Other third party apps (e.g. IM+) are logging in fine and you then get the usual "you have been signed out" message on the PC. So for now I'm going to use a chain of trial versions in the hope that MS sort this out in the next month seeing as 2009 went official this week.
And don't get me started on the new version of the PC client. What primary school children did they let loose on the design?!

I know this doesn't help but I'm also suffering the same problem and also fixed with a new Live ID not that it's the answer! Been playing with a lot of Live services so wasn't sure if Messenger was the cause...
I changed the messenger version and problem solved!

Hope it helps,
Well, still no news from Microsoft regarding this issue. It has been 11 days since I last received an email stating that resolving the problem was their "top-most priority" although they could not provide a timeframe for resolution.
I've emailed them again to ask if there is any news but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed.
It's pretty disgraceful how the functionality of our devices can be reduced in this way through a problem with the server. I hope it's fixed soon.

Microsoft really needs to get more people working on Windows Mobile products. Out of nowhere, all of their mobile products (Live Mail, Live Messenger, Live Contacts, Sideshow) failed to work since the beginning of January and there is no support what so ever.
So it's been about 4 months now since I was last able to use Windows Live Messenger on my Windows Mobile device.
This is so far beyond a joke that it's become funny and then lost all funnyness again.
I am tired of using Palringo, though I do appreciate their free service.
Has anybody managed to get any information about a possible fix? I've read elsewhere that Microsoft have suggested to some people that they just create a new Windows Live ID. This is quite franky a ridiculous suggestion, as I am sure many people are quite attached to their e-mail address. Personally it would be a huge inconvenience for me to have to change my address.
The problem seems to be with the live mail address book. I managed to get it working by exporting my contacts, deleting them, and importing them again. Has been working fine now for several weeks. More info here:

I have deleted all my contacts but I am still getting "Problem with the server".
Is there anything else I can do?
I thought I should wrap this up... a few months ago it just magically started working again.
While I'm happy it is working, I'm still left concerned that the functionality of my device is purely at the mercy of Microsoft, and I am utterly helpless to do anything about it or even find out what's happening.
Uncheck the synch contacts option when installing is the solution..........in step 4 in ver 10.6.***

Windows Live Messenger UK

Hi, i have searched the dream forum but have not found any conclusive answers to my specific problem. I know that T-Mobile do not allow MSN/ Windows Live Messenger in the UK and as such do not bundle the G1 with it. However it is bundled with the American G1 as far as I am aware and was wondering if there was a way for somebody to upload the application so that i could install it manually, an .apk maybe. I have tried all of the other messenger substitutes and have found them to be satisfactory but have individual downfalls. Since i have used the Windows Live application on the Xperia I have realised how good mobile MSN can be and would like the true experience if at all possible.
i guess the application is actually shipped with every build, but you will need a non-uk sim to activate it.
Please post the apk, worth a try
well i don't really know anything about the application itself since i've never had it, but is there a way to get the application from the phone and upload it or is there any source code that an application can be built with?
Hi!
I would reccommend the program Hi MSN! from the Market. I used to use the "native" IM app, and have to say that I like Hi MSN! more. I am also a UK user
Try Hi MSN, and if you don't like it I will find the old IM.apk

I've tried Hi MSN but i always get connection issues. Most of the time it does not connect at all and other time it disconnects whilst i am logged in without it telling me. I have also tried Meebo and few others but even when they work they do not give me all of the features i would like. The windows messenger on the Xperia is very much like the computer version and i would like something like that.

AFAIK, the bundled MSN messenger use text(!) to send and receive messages if you're not on wifi - unless you have an unlimited sms/text plan, you might be up for a nasty surprise.
I too use Hi MSN, and for me it works flawlessly.

er why not try meebo, it's on the market and a free download. It a very good msn, aim yahoo client. Been using it for a long long time no had any issues at all. i m also in UK
I had it on one build, it wouldn't sign in for me
My gripe with Meebo (as with Palringo et al) is that it's not an MSN (or Yahoo or aim) client - It's a Meebo client, and you connect to MSN/Yahoo/whetever thru their service. An added layer I'd rather be without.

Yes i agree with that but i also think that while Hi MSN is probably the best version out, it still lacks some features that are already available in mobile MSN applications.

Facebook Chat on HD2

This one goes to all the windows phone newcomers who are looking for a way to use facebook chat on their new HTC LEO / HD2, which lacks from both native winmo facebook app, and HTC Sense facebook integration.
The software name is FIM (Facebook Instant Messenger) and beside the fb chat it integrates many of the core facebook features like status feed, notifications, photo post, and pretty much everything else via Facebook's mobile site.
Most important is that the software is finger friendly and I'm using it myself on HD2, so later I will post a video of the software on HD2 for those who still consider buying this awesome device.
You can find the rest of the details here
You can also download it directly on your device by navigating to http://get.mosko.mobi
will give it a go
Good job

excellent app, congrats
fantastic app! best facebook app ive used on the HD2 yet! thank you!!!
does not work on 3G -1
How much is this likely to kill the battery if it was left running in the background?
I'm fairly sure it was Palringo that gave me my battery issues when I first got the HD2.
While we're talking about Facebook app on HD2, how come i can't see my thumbs of my uploaded pictures? Is this a setting somewhere or just a bug?
Thank you very much, been looking for exactly this.......
I am trying to dl this, but it looks like the website is down?
same here, seems broken? anyone got the cab?
great ap though it does drain the battery got a percentage icon running and you can see it counting down
Site seems to be working again!
Hi, excellent app! love it. BUT......
...95% of the time when I open fim and try to sign in it fails to connect and pops up with the message "Failed using the internet connection. Try to restart your data connection". This is on my HD2 which I've only had for a few days and it's also my first winmo so I'm a complete noob. It doesnt matter how many times I turn on/off wifi it makes no difference and I get the same error both on my wifi at home and at work so I'm a bit baffled - especially as it does occasionally work first try.
If anyone can point me in the direction of where I'm going wrong I will be eternally grateful lol.
Cheers,
Matt
Thanks a lot for this, it's a damn shame the official Facebook app totally sucks compared to the iPhone version which allows for so much more. It's small things like this that make the whole device user experience suck. It's not HTC's fault.

Hi all, +1 for the same problem. but i'm not a complete noob and not in wifi.
edit: I may have found the solution "Incorrect Email/Password Combination": but you are positively sure you entered everything correctly? well, if you have special characters in your email or password replace them. only numbers, English letters and of course @ at the email allowed, also keep in mind that facebook passwords are case sensitive."

Official MSN Messenger for Android

MSN China has just released the official msn application for android phones.
I don't think it has been released in the market yet.
It is free but it contains ads...and yeah
the app is in chinese!!
I hope the english version is going to release soon!!
http://3g.msn.cn/MobileMSN.html
Thanks for sharing but not gonna download it until an English/International version is available.
Suweeeett! Even seems to support sending photos/voice like the WinMo app. Too bad I don't understand a single word Chinese, so I can't even find a download.
I downloaded it from your link, it works on English systems in English.
Here's the link to download the .apk installer (I choose Hero in the list, but it should be the same for other device I guess)
I upload it on megaupload because I was able to download it from a javascrip popup so I could not copy the link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4IMRJX9C
I gave it a try and didn't find it revolutionnary, I guess some other apps on the market are better. What do you think?

Well, I just tried it as well and it's quite good. Even supports real file transfer. Just amazing. The UI can use a little polish but it works. For me it's almost all in Chinese by the way.
I managed to pull of the direct link.
Here you go guys.
http://download.get.live.cn/components/mclient/msn_pc/568.apk
Think it's possible to translate it to English in some way?
This app is so ugly, it makes me depressed.
I could possibly help in translating it if I know which files contain the chinese characters that way i could replace them with english.
I'd say the app is pretty good and packs a lot of features which are better than many other IM apps.
It would be perfect if they can polish the interface more a little bit and add call or video call feature.
Great find, finally Microsoft is doing something. But sadly they could do better with the graphics.
Ok. MSN for android is really fugly. Microsoft made such a prettier version for the iphone. http://www.walyou.com/blog/2010/06/24/microsoft-windows-live-messenger-iphone-ipod-touch/ I've downloaded it on my ipod touch and it is simply stunning.
I have 4 digit pincode and this official version is not accepting my pin code which i use with other 3rd party applications with no problems, just because it is 4 digits.Anyone has an idea??
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sign in not allowed for me :S
i quiet like it, i hope it's released into the market and we see updates
This is great. I've been waiting for an official MSN messenger app for Android for some time. Works good on my Nexus One.
UI isn't that bad guys...
App works brilliant, and all in english
BTW there is a hacked version out there without ads
And I believe this app was not developed in house by microsoft, instead by "pica", but it still is official in a sense, as it is featured on the official msn china website.

I guess you need to set your phone's language to English. Bleh, I want a normal decent multilangual msn app.
Come on, its time for one. Android's market share is pretty big so why not, MS? Of course! Because it's an open-source system.. great..

[Q] Need a chat app, that is NOT palringo

Palringo straight up sucks. as of right now it has been "Logging in" for 3 hours, tried rebooting phone, checked connection etc etc.. Of course there is no visual cue that you have a message,(blinking LED) or when you are disconnected.
it sucks, i hate it, want something, anything else.
tried to get ebuddy, cant, says its not authorized or something to that effect..
is there ANY program out there (other than junkringo) that works on this phone? without having to do any mods BS to get it to work?
I take it you're not looking for MSN then?
something that DOES NOT use sms to send and recieve yahoo chat messages.
How about this. Not the most obvious thing in the world I suppose, but I thought of it...

Wow, thanks for the smartass answer an all..
but have you even tried to install it on an HD2?
hmm?
does your say " 'ymsgr-ppc' is not a valid pocket PC application"
maybe i should google it.
mmm... yea, well it says its for winmo5.. so I googled the HD2 and found it with google, it uses winmo6.5 and then googled again and could not find where it said that app supports winmo6.5.... but I did find where it said it does not support 6.1 but maybe it skipped 6.1 because it wasnt cool, or didnt use google enough... hmm
maybe i should google some more.
too bad i cant get it to work too, what with a rockin rating of 2/10 i think you managed to google up the one chat app that might suck worse than palringo..
At least I tried, which is more than you could be bothered doing.
Couple of options
BeeJive for WM 6.5 works, but is no longer being supported. It's in permanent beta and every once in a while their servers go down for a few days.
You can get the ebuddy java app to work. You need to install Mighty's Photon jBlend java app on your HD2, then you can get java apps to install fine. I don't have a link handy but you can find it on XDA.
Try BeeJive first, if it's working, it's really good.
