Unlock/Sound Bar Problems - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I'm running CM 6.1 RC1 and trying to apply a custom theme mixed with a theme done using the UOT Kitchen. The problem is my unlock and sound bars have ended up with two separate colours and I'm not really sure how as I thought the were only controlled by two files.
Anybody any idea why it's ended up two colours as shown in the attatchment?
Cheers,
Ozy

Just figured it out, it seems that the kitchen modifies some of the xml files involving the jog bars and hence they get a little messed up. Fixed it by copying any xmls with jog in the name over to the new framework-res.

Ghetto WM6 Dialer Skins

I modified some of the Windows Mobile 6 dialer skin files to change the appearance. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't look like there are any dialer skins for WM6 yet that works 100%. I tried the PaulyA skins, but some of the hardware buttons didn't work right. Anyway since I was doing this for my phone I thought I would see if anybody would be interested in using these as well. I was able to change the background image and buttons. However I was not able to find how to change the size of any of the buttons. Below are some of the screen shots I grabbed. Plus I can list the appropriate files so anybody else can make their own. The only problem I ran into was that whenever I changed the color of a button it gave me those purple corners. So I just need to spend more time in Photoshop to make sure the corners are the exact color the phone needs to make them transparent. But if you make your own buttons then its easier to make the transparent part the correct color.
Opinions?
I'd be all over either of the two black skins you have there...
awesome!!
These look great... ive actually been looking for some dialer skins that work for WM6 i got mb edition running. So what are the files? and if anyone else knows how to make the buttons bigger that would be cool... if u tell me the files.. i can try to edit them in photoshop also. im not a pro.. but i know a thing or two.
I've attached two skins. The Black.zip is the one pictured above that has the white looking rings around the buttons and the Clear.zip has no border. Also the Clear.zip lacks any background. However you can find it in the Black.zip file or use your own.
These two skins are complete and should work in both portrait and landscape modes. Make sure you back up your existing files before hand. You should be able to simply copy the original files directly from the Windows folder on the phone. To install these files on your phone copy them somewhere like your memory card and then use a file utility like Resco File Explorer to overwrite the files in the \Windows\ folder and soft reset.
Here is the list of the files. The naming convention seems to be fairly intuitive. "Port" and "land" designations are obvious. The "up" images are what you see all the time and the "dwn" are what you see when you press them.
--------------------------
dlrback_land.png--------->Background for the dialer*
dlrback_port.png
dlrbtndef_dwn_land.gif--->**
dlrbtndef_dwn_port.gif
dlrbtndef_up_land.gif
dlrbtndef_up_port.gif
dlrbtnend_up_land.gif---->This is the "End" button
dlrbtnend_up_port.gif
dlrbtntalk_up_land.gif---->This is the "Talk" button
dlrbtntalk_up_port.gif
dlrbtn_dwn_land.gif------>The rest of the buttons are the actual number keys
dlrbtn_dwn_port.gif
dlrbtn_up_land.gif
dlrbtn_up_port.gif
*One trick I used for the dialer background was to take the Default_stwater_240_320.gif and Default_stwater_320_240.gif image files from the Windows folder (when using the default theme). Then take them into Photoshop and adjust the color to match your theme. When done save them as dlrback_land.png and dlrback_port.png.
**These dlrbtndef buttons are the ones on the right side that give you your arrow back and speed dial buttons.
I hope that helps. I'd like to see what others come up with.
Any chance of you pulling the files together into .CABs?
Clear and Black CABS
I took the liberty of putting these in a CAB file. You can uninstall these if you don't like them.
I have tested these cabs and they work finr. But I am NOT liable for anything that might happen by using these cabs.
Thanks cyberdrakula! I've never made cab files before.
Flat Black Theme and Dialer
This is one CAB file that has the ALLBlack theme and the black dialer from raceit. You are able to uninstall this if you don't like it and a soft reset thereafter will set it back to default.
If you have installed the CAB file for the DIALERS from the ABOVE POST, PLEASE UNINSTALL IT BEFORE INSTALLING THIS CAB.
This is a BETA release as I still have to figure out why the black background won't set on the reset the first time. The FIX is to select the Allblack theme on "settings/today". You might have to select another theme and and select the AllBlack.
The Dialer graphics are from Raceit and the AllBlack theme is from somewhere in this forum I forget where.
No warranties or guarantees given for anything and I am NOT liable for anything that might happen to you device or should you have a flat tire after installing this CAB.
I wanted to throw up a few more complete dialer skins. Please check the post below for the zip files. (I seriously need to learn to make cab files.)
Here's the dialer skins pictured above.
Here's my first attempt at a cab file. This is the Black v2 in a cab form. Please let me know if this works and I can update the last few I zipped up.
Thanks.
Edit: The Black v2 is on the bottom of the first page in cab form...

Here's my personal modification that's similar to the blue one Raceit pictured in his first post (4th picture). I wanted a dialer skin that matched the rest of WM6. I tried to match the buttons as close to the taskbar as I could.
Looks nice BBowermaster! What do you guys think of this one? It seemed like a good idea, but I think it still needs something more.
WM6 Theme/Dailer (Wizards/HERMES)
I have created these a Theme & Dailer cab. I am going to do somemore dark themes as I am into them. Any ideas or requests are welcome. Raceit, you're a BAD BAD person as you've got me started on this and it is taking away from a couple of apps (business related) I was working on for myself.
Tested on Wizards & HERMES
-------------------------------
The main dailer graphics I used to create this were Raceit's clear dailer files. The main reason I turned this into a cab was for it to be able to uninstallable in case you want to.
I still have to figure out why the theme won't set on the reset the first time. The FIX is to select the cyberdrakula theme on "settings/today". You might have to select another theme click OK go back & re-select the cyberdrakula theme again.
No warranties or guarantees given for anything and I am NOT liable for anything that might happen to you device or should you have a flat tire after installing this CAB.
Can someone please make a cab of Raceit's blue dialer? I would be very thankful.
I just updated my post on the first page for the blue skin so its a cab file now.
Sorry about that Cyberdrakula!!
Hey people, what reg keys and dlls are concerned with skinning the dialpad and pin entry pad??
I wish I knew. Although a member that goes by the-equinoxe asked about a tapres.dll file. I don't know if he's on to something or not.

White Background
Any idea why my background is staying white, I have tried several different cabs and even copied the black background, but it stays white. The background files are black, dlrback_land.png and dlrback_port.png, so I don't know what is going on.

Couple questions... Is it also white when you switch the phone to landscape mode? Also if you browse to your Windows folder and open up those two files are they the correct looking images or all white?

Change default dialer background (help!)

I am trying to reskin the dialer of an iPaq hw6945. I'm having trouble with the default background. I've tried any number of skins and skinning tools and none seems to change the default blue backround.
My first thought was to simply replace the background image. On the iPaq hw6945 that image is "dlrback_sqre.png". Unfortunately that seems to be a ROM image so even if I change the file attributes, I can't replace it.
Any ideas?
try making the files into a .cab...
How will that help and how would I do that?
I tried to install a couple of different dialer skins, an SPB dialer skin, and one of the DirkGently dialer skins. The former used a PC based exe installer the latter a cab. In both cases they failed to install their backgrounds. The buttons installed just fine but the background didn't change. So I thought I'd "hack in" the background.
So far I haven't been able to do it.
I unsuccessfully attempted the fore mentioned image swap, then I went poking around in the registry.
I found "dlrback_sqre" in two places in the registry. I replace those values with "dlrback_square" the name of my image in the same directory, but that didn't seem to do a thing.
Moved as not theme release.
Sorry... new to the board. I thought this would be the place to post.
Thanks bilbobrian for your help. It lead me in the right direction.
You're right all it took was a signed cab (and a background image with right name) to overwrite the background. I took one of the DG skins opened it with a cab editor and inserted the right file.
When I get some time I may just make a set of custom skins. I already know how to do the calculator, and WM player, although I might just make a skin for Coreplayer which I use more often. TCPMP was a such a great application, I decided to spring for the licensed version.
Hope to see the results of your work!
Good luck

[WORKING/DOWNLOAD] Services.jar for Centered Text for Circle Battery w/Black Themes!

I have made the Battery Percent in the middle again in CM-5.0.6 so far its working and i havent had any issues yet but i am still testing with it...
Services.jar is from CM-5.0.6 with moditfications made by me with the help from:
david1171 - Pointing me in the right file paths
sn0wmis3r - His theme Inspired me and pointed out the cc3.jar doesnt work with the percent icons. lol
brandenk - Created the battery icons.
enomther - Who made the guide to manually make text black to white
Cyanogen - The creator of CM
UPDATE 4/30/2010 - My custom made Services.jar is now able to be downloaded. I know it works for what i have with my theme. anyones elses theme i do not know about. This is not a update.zip nor a morph themed install. this is unzipped to services.jar. I made my own custom CM-5.0.6 the day after it was release and have been working on it since then till it was finished on 04/21/2010 and working.
How to use my services.jar:
If you bake your own Cyanogenmod-5.0.6-N1 Rom like i do, and also theme them with the circle battery and would like to have it centered plus running as a Black Themed base this is for you.
1. Download and unzip CM-5.0.6-N1 to its own folder.
2. Make the changes to the files that you need to do to make your theme black and with circle battery.
3. Unzip the services.jar into the /system/framework/ folder
4. repackage it up as a store only zip with the name of the zip not containing any spaces at all. (example: CM-5.0.6-N1-Themed.zip Not CM 5.0.6 N1 Theme.zip)
5. then sign your newly made custom rom of CM.
You are then ready to flash it to your phone.
NOTE: I am not responsible for your mistakes. do a nano backup before anything to your phone always.
If your wanting this into a morph well then you need to download this services.zip and extract the classes.dex file from the services.jar and place it where it needs to go.
I'll be working on a morph as soon as i can i have other projects i am helping with other on and i am busy with personal work crap as well lol...
again this is set for a black theme with white text and a centered percent numbers with the circle battery.
I can help you make the morph for the battery if you'd like. Just pm me the images and the services.jar with only the battery placement configurations?
I'm looking for the circle battery aswell
Sweet alright well i know sn0wmis3r will be updating his black matte morph soon as well. I will be making my own over the week. If i need help I will take you up on your offer Papichulo06 :-D
Thank you!
What color? I'm using the blue one found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652450
Same as found in this thread on post 4

Just wanted to let you know, the Kspec morph is currently working on my N1 running CM 5.0.6. I used the Lite 1.1 version.
Are we talking about the same thing or am I missing something?
Dunno I havent seen what his icons are and if it shows the battery percent in center or not. i'll look into that later and find out what battery icon he has.
What exactly did you edit to get it to change?
I accomplished it by going in and using PSPad's text diff feature to see what was different in 5.0.5.3 com/android/server/status/StatusBarIcon.smali to the one in 5.0.6, and changed pretty much every difference, and I got it working (or well, I just copied the 5.0.5.3 one to 5.0.6, but when I did it for the different versions of the trackball successions services.jar, then I did it that way, only changing certain things).
Copied kinda like what you did only made sure i did not change pswitch and some other numbers. I dont use the trackball successions i dont believe (unless that built into 5.0.6 then i do) but so far my trackball works fine lights up with no issues. even on the live default wallpaper on cm-5.0.6 it works fine. I used Notepad++ and just used the clone to make one side one document and the other side the one i am messing with (basically the same thing but i just like notepad++ more). I'll up the services.jar file this weekend for sure.
With Pix now
can you share your wallpaper?
Wallpaper is fireworks Live Wallpaper in market. it will allow you to select different types of backgrounds with fireworks going on. :-D
Re: [WORKING] Circle Battery w/Percent in Middle CM-5.0.6 w/PIX
thx, and the dock that is rear the icons???
dock comes with helixlaunch2 also in market :-D got to love free stuff thats AWESOME!
the dock image comes with helixlauncher? i Have the helix2 that works with 5.0.6 and i dont know how to show it :S Thx for all
okay with helix 0.7 go to the config part and under the shortcuts advanced only you will see "Show Dock" that should put the dock on there for you. :-D
Do you have the newest version from HelixLauncher2 from Market? This has the dock.
This appears to be the battery I created for my Kspec themes located at http://alldroid.org/forums/911-Themes.

Replacing Icons in framework-res.apk

I've been opening up framework-res.apk as a zip file and changing around icons for my status bar with other themes. I just replaced the signal bars icons and the 3G icons, repackaged the framework into a zip file, and applied it via rom manager. No Icon change. I've been able to replace several before, any ideas why it wouldn't work now? I reopened the file and verified the icons had been changed.
The icons you are looking for are in com.htc.resources.apk
If you have something specifically you want changed I can tell you where it is located and what the filename is. I am building some theme tutorial videos because I had a hard time finding all of this information. I want to make it easier for others. I remember all the way back in June when I got frustrated finding what files went where. I am making a list to help others out, let me know what you are looking for.

subscribed as well, a video with some info would be great. I am definitely no developer, but not afraid to mess around a bit. I was also interested in making similar changes as OP.
In fact I am using Jerick's smooth sense mod with white letter mod by squintz, and a couple of the icons were coming up out of order. I was not cool enough to be able to repair the info that points to an icon so I found the icons in framework-res.apk and changed the names of them so that I would get the correct icon in status bar. But obvously that is not the correct fix. However this is where the icons OP is talking about. So if I can make a name change to a png can't you also replace that png. I believe that the apk has to be signed correctly after manipulating?
Anyways any basic info about doing such would be greatly appreciated

You don't need to resign the apk unless you completely extract it. Then good luck trying to get a system apk to work. Just open the archive and replace needed imgs then update the archive and you're done. All depends on what os your using. Linux makes it easy to edit apks without extracting. In win you have to rename to .zip then do line I said then rename back to .apk

Which files specifically are the signal meter? I just want to change those ones back to the stock icons.

I can tell you later (i dont have the dump on hand) but the signal meter pngs are located in com.htc.resources.apk under /res/drawlablehdpi/ thay have a name like sys_status_cdma1 or something like that. I think if you get that far the images might jump out at you. If you want the exact ones I can tell you when I get back from work.

Found them. Thanks for the direction. I was looking through the folders and I couldn't find them, because they are transparent backgrounds, so the white on white blended right in. I changed out the signals for the ones I wanted and everything looks like its working now.
Thanks for your help!

Sense 4.0 Skinning Question

I'm trying to make my first custom skin for my EVO 4G LTE, but am having problems making any modifications stick so I know I'm doing something wrong. I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I'm basically following these directions, which are for Sense 3.0, but I imagine most of the steps are similar.
I have installed Apk Manager 5.0.2, and I extracted all the files of M10 Tools, but I don't think I extracted them to the appropriate location (those instructions are unclear about how to set up M10 Tools). However, given the changes I want to make (a simple color change), I am of the impression that I may not need M10 Tools, yet. Of course, I may be wrong and this could be my entire problem.
I'm starting with HTC's Matte.apk, and I simply want to change the blue highlighting to red (after all, while ICS's color is blue, my phone is black and red).
Steps 3 through 8 and 10 (extracting the apk and renaming it) went fine. My new theme shows up with the correct name. I couldn't make any sense of step 9, so I basically skipped it. I assume this affects how it shows up as a file name, so after packaging it up as "signedMatte.apk" I just change that name to my desired name, and it worked fine.
I tried changing a few .pngs (blue stuff to red stuff), and I modified the progress_horizontal.xml file to have reds instead of blues. I started with minor changes just to see that the process worked, before jumping into the deep end and changing hundreds of images and files.
I recompiled, signed, moved it to my phone (system/app), and rebooted. Obviously, that skips a lot of M10 Tools steps, but I figured if my .apk has the changes I wanted, that should suffice.
So I went into Skins and selected my skin. However, the settings icons glow GREEN, and the volume bar (which I understand is controlled by the progress_horizontal.xml) is still BLUE. Why is anything the default green? And why is the volume bar still blue? Obviously the changes I made aren't taking affect.
Help on this is greatly appreciated, as it bugs me that HTC's Burgundy skin (which is essentially what I want) doesn't exist in Sense 4. I'd also like to be able to help out with releasing skins for people (I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants a red skin for Sense 4), but am obviously facing a road block here.
