[Q] Removing Apps with Titanium Backup - General Questions and Answers

I am trying to remove apps from my HTC Hero (Sprint) by using Titanium Backup. I have the lasted Cyanogen ROM installed.
I have installed the BusyBox. I click on the app I want to remove and go down to Force Remove App (by recovery exploit).
It then reboots. However, it stays on the screen with the exclamation point and the android guy. When I hit a button on the phone and comes up with this:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package....
E:Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.0.1.3
Any suggestions?

Same problem here.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

Try This
This worked for me...let me know if it works for you...
Download BusyBox (by hitting Problems)
Go to Backup / Restore
Now just click an APP, don't hold it.
You Should be able to select Un-Install from here.
That's it!

Same problem here. Last proposed solution doesn't work, removed application is back after reboot.
Update:
Managed to remove Facebook using shell commands in ADB (http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/10050-how-to-uninstall-facebook-after-installing-gapps/)
I really hated that Facebook service running in the background, now it's gone!

Lastest Version
Are you running the lastest version of Recovery?

[Q] Cognition Update Issues

I got my captivate, I rooted it, then I did the leaked update to Froyo and since the update I have had constant problems. Apps freeze, the phone locks up and eats my battery minimum two time a day, average three or four.
So I decided to install Cognition 2.4. Well, I have a full version of Rom Manager. So I click the install rom from SD Card. I select the cognition2.4.zip file. And it makes me click the clear data option and click ok, then it reboots and a status bar appears that starts to move to the right, then I get the messages below....
-- Novi_check already executed!!...
-- movi_check done!...
update media. please wait
update media, finished
--Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file structure
E:signature verification failed
-- Appling Muti-CSC
Installing Multi-CSC
Installation Aborted.
So I really need to get this thing updated. This ROM is driving me nuts and I need one that doesn't crash three or four times a day. I need one that will allow me to actually run apps and open my settings menu. It's irritating. Anyone else have this issue?
Should I try flashing it back to stock or does someone actually know a way around this one?

You are going to have to use odin because the froyo leak does not support clockwork recovery...

Odin is a pain in the ass to get rid of. I tried a Master Clear and I still have JI6 even though I did a master clear on JF6. And my firmware is still 2.2. I have to figure something out.

[Q] How can i cancel update download

I accidentally started downloading the 2.3.6 update and o don't even want to update because I want to keep root, anyway to cancel the download?
I am not sure if you have used CWM but i had done a nanodroid back up before i had pressed the update button. So i restored the old back up and now i have no problems with the update.
There's two steps to the update process- download and install. Once it downloads it asks if you want to install. You can say "no" and I think it will prompt you every hour or something. If you want it to stop prompting you to install the update, you will have to be rooted. You can either delete the update file (it's the only .zip file that's located in the /cache directory) or you can freeze the following apps: "2.3.5 updater and upgrader 1.0.0" (thanks unsivil_audio).

[Q] Help, No Play Store Installed

Hope someone out there can help this noob out.
I have a Galaxy Tab GT-p5110. Yesterday I rooted it, installed Titanium Backup and did a full backup.
I then installed CWM and managed to install cm-10.1.3 and a package of gapps.
Very happy so far to get all the bloatware off the unit but there is no play store in the gapps package.
I cant install any apps, I have tried to do this via the browser. it says installing etc but the app never appears.
when I try to update the rom via settings/about phone CyanogenMod Updates it downloads the new ROM and reboots but then aborts the install. When I try to install a gapps package it says it cant verify the signature file.
I guess the main fault is the lack of Play Store, without it you cant do anything.
I have Odin and cant find a file .md5 or tar file to install.
Edit: I have since found i can drop the Play Store .apk file and install it from the sd card, this process worked but when i try to open Play Store, it opens momentarily, then closes......
Any help much appreciated.

1. Disable data packet/use airplane mode
2. Force Stop Playstore, clear cache n data
3. Go to the setting, clear account
4. Reboot
5. Open Playstore then login again

Please help when you can, thanks and regards
Be sure you flashed the 4.2.2 gapps, the latest gapps (gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip) is for 4.3.

Ok, got gapps-jb-20130812 which is the correct one. went into recovery mode and selected "apply update from external storage" selected the file then I get:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Then it all stops and i have to re-boot. I think if i can get this package onto the device then all will be good,
thanks in advance for your help
Hi, i would recommend you to do the following:
1) Download cyanogen mod 10.1.3 stable(4.2.2 android version) and gapps package 20130812 which is compatible with that version of cm
2) Copy them to your sd card (internal or external)
3) Download a md5 checker ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135620 ) and verify that the files in your tablet have the right md5
4) boot into cwm, do a wipe data/factory reset (important), wipe dalvic cache and install cyanogen mod first and then the google packet
its important to make a factory reset as there are data in your tablet which will conflict with other versions of gapps
Solved
followed the steps carefully and it all worked fine, I cannot thank katsika and nasheich enough, you guys rock and roll.
Muchos Gracias

[Solved] Android 4.4.2 not working due to TelephonyProvider.apk

Hi,
I can't update to 4.4.2, because "TelephonyProvider.apk" has unexpected data. I'm not aware of any changes I did to it. Where can I download the 4.4.1 version? I found something here*, but it'll still not update to 4.4.2. Is there any other possibility of fixing this issue?
I use the Xposed Framework and AdAway, but deactivated both of them, rebooted and wiped the cache before trying to update.
Here is the whole message:
Code:
Installing: /sdcard/0/airdroid/upload/KitKat4.4.2.zip
Finding update package. . .
Opening update package. . .
Installing update. . .
Verifying current system. . .
" /system/app/TelephonyProvider.apk" has unexpected contents.
E: Error in /data/media/0/airdroid/upload/KitKat4.4.2.zip

Installation aborted.
Thanks in advance!
*Not allowed to post outside links yet, sorry: http: //storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/Nexus%205/System%20Dump/app/&sort=size&order=asc
EDIT: Despite backing up TelephonyProvider.apk and TelephonyProvider.odex I can't use my N5 as a phone any more. The error message "Unfortunately, Phone has stopped." pops up every second or so. The only reason to avoid is is to enable Airplane mode. I copied the original files to /system/app using Root Browser, but it seems not to be recognized as installed. I can click on it and choose "Install". Anyways, after verifying the permissions it gets, there's a simple "App not installed." Sorry for being such a noob
I found it in this post. Now everything works just fine again

Is the truecaller app the latest version?
Try reinstalling it.
Also try updating your CM11 to M9.

You download it from here: http://get.cm/get/iwr
You then put it on your phone's storage.
You boot in recovery.
You create a backup from recovery.
You then simply install the zip, without wiping anything.
You reboot.

Disable signature checking from recovery. There should be an option that sounds like:
Toggle signature check

Okay then... apparently dirty flashes don't work.
Well, you either stay with M8, or backup your apps with titanium backup or such and do a factory data reset before you install.

thanks alot for taking ur time out and helping /guiding me through this problem
just 1 last question pls (3 parts )
suppose i take a nandroid backup and factory reset then when i restore will EVERYTHING (apps+data) come back as it is except that i will be on the M9 version?
i already have a titanium backup transfered on my dropbox will that do the trick? or will i need nandroid also?
if i do it through titanium and then factory reset all i will have to do then is just re-download titanium n then restore missing apps+data right? or can i just do it through dropbox?
pls ive never done done this so a link to some guide will be extremely helpfull
As long as you backup with titanium backup you will be able to restore the applications but may have to log in to a lot of them again
