New kernel schedule - Desire Android Development

Hi there a good news for responsiveness.
A patch of 200 lines have been checked and approved by Linus, improving greatly responsiveness maybe it should be interesting to test it on our phones.
News and links available here.

I saw cyanogen had tweeted this earlier. good idea.

I compiled my own kernel with those patches (partially) applied to the HTC default 2.6.32 kernel. At least the kernel still works but I am not sure how to prove an increasing responsiveness in numbers....

If you want to test it I have now build a CFS version with this patch
vorkKernel

Still not good as bfs

Interest in Inspire AOSP?

I was wondering if any of you guys were interested in full AOSP build or if CM7 was good enough for all you. If so, would you guys like optimized or pure vanilla, or both? I have some time soon, so if there's enough interest I'll compile a build for all y'all.
So who wants it?

AOSP=Android Open Source.
I had to look that up
That would be awesome! Either way would be good
Just how far from aosp does cm7 deviate?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Hellz yes please!
I'll give either one a go.
I, for one, would be interested in a AOSP rom for our Inspires. There are somethings in CM7 that I could careless for, although I found ways around them. ex: Removing ADW launcher and replacing with stock GB launcher.
Alright guys, I'll start work tomorrow and keep everyone posted through this thread, so check back

Sounds great!
Out of curiosity, would this proposed ROM have your OC kernel and battery fix included?
Appreciate the work!

I'm going to make a pure stock vanilla and an optimized ROM, but the optimized would have it.

As in AOSP just as Google intends Android to be... made for the Inspire 4g hardware? Heck yeah!
That would be great. CM7 is awesome but AOSP would be cool. I take it this was said blank canvas?

Exactly I love getting into new things, and AOSP was next on my list. Unfortunately, high school and a tattooing apprenticeship take up a lot of my time, so the kernel went unsupported for a bit. It's going on the backburner, but it'll be re-cooked after I finish porting AOSP. I'm shooting for a fully working MIUI kernel too now that we have gingerbread 1.3.18, but AOSP takes precedence. plus cattleprod should probably be able to beat me to it. so I should be able to get started tomorrow night, or Monday morning at latest.

We talking Gingerbread? If so count me in
Let me know if you want help with this, this is something I've been looking into doing as well.
I've been waiting for a stock build of Gingerbread to be written for a while now! I hope this is made specifically for the Inspire 4G too... I'm tired of everything thinking I have a Desire HD. That noice-canceling mic means so much to me
Utilizing the source coding released by HTC, I assume?
Just an update: i started working on sunday. I made some progress but wubi dicked up my bootloader on my comp so i have to get back into it. I made a lot of headway though, so i'll let you guys know what's up later tonight

Link??!
10 Char.
When did he release it and where is it then?
I only saw a post about his blog update on CM9 on different handsets and a ant about the ICS by Trip not having HW acceleration.
If you are so sure he has posted it please share the link for everybody to enjoy

Keyan Mobli:
The ICS information on Sensation and Evo3D update you've been waiting for - It's closer than you think
So I'm now using ICS as my daily driver on my Sensation. Like I said before I just have a few things to fix (with help (and by help I mean I kang from him) from +richard ross (That's Toastcfh)) before releasing a public alpha. Oh btw, have I mentioned that the Evo3d and Sensation are at the exact same place as far as development goesj? Toastcfh is just more modest than I am.
The list:
BT (easy fix, just have to disable an option in kernel)
GPS (Probably going to be easy, haven't really looked into it yet)
GetSwapBuffers bug (The last remaining egl issue. Will probably be kernel side and come fully from toastcfh)
What will probably be broken in alpha:
Camera - sorry the fix for this will come after release
OMX stuff - This and the camera issue almost go hand in hand, so they will probably be fixed simultaneously.
If you have an Evo3d, the 3d stuff will probably be broken too.
And uh.. that's it? I'm probably missing something, but that'll show up when you guys all start yelling at me when I release an alpha.
Note: the picture is with the statusbar pulled down in order to show the date

Simple answer is no. They use closed source drivers and apps. CM only uses stuff that is open sourced.
Oh.... so thats why there is not sense rom for samsungs right? Then why wont someone hack over it and make it open sourc3?

cm9 official status

Is there anywhere to go see the status or problems finalizing cm9 for the shift? I know there are a lot of phones/tablets that are already getting nightlies. I'm not asking an eta. I know it will come when it comes. Just wondering if there is a place to view the progress from the official cm team.
I've googled several different ways.

Well if you look Zen has a cm9 posted, so the aosp ICS kernel is there, It's more so waiting on HTC to release ICS Sense Source to a similar device so the kernel can be ported, but then you also have to look at will any ICS Sense builds have WiMax? Most likely if the kernel is ported from Kingdom but It's all up in the air right now while everyone scatters to get ICS LOL that's just my opinion though
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
yeah i meant kernel source to be ported i do relize we do have a kernel but yeah from what i understand once the design or the g2 gets it will give us more hope and once we do have a more official build i plan on porting aokp

Not sure if WiMax would work in a gsm kernel, but I'm no kernel dev
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
Waiting for Zenulator to post his source so other devs can work on it.
In regards to wimax, Is that a kernel issue in that each phone has to have that added in seperately, or would it be an easy port once people figure out how to get it working on phones like the 3d? I remember reading on twitter that toast was working on getting wimax onto cm9... so i was wondering if that would translate to us eventually getting it as well

Good thing toast is still active with the shift. :-D
Shifted from Outer Space
4G is built into the kernel. 4G won't be the tough thing, getting a kernel functioning properly is the tough part... I've been working on it here and there but a new job, baseball, softball, wife and kids have been keeping me fairly occupied... I keep up with the good kernel devs on twitter...
Strapped, the kernel I ported from the g2 has wimax, it just has to be written into the source or enabled in menuconfig....

What is a kernal source

Many people was talking about it and i jsut read this post about kernal source got released to the att htc one x
I really don't mean to be rude, but you honestly just spent more effort making that post than googling it.

Best I ca describe and someone correct me if I am wrong.
It holds a lot of the hardware specific code. Without it we are unable to look at problems that may be specific to our device. It is at the heart of every os.
From what I have learned ... its like a bridge between software and the hardware ..

I'm mostly answering this to move towards getting the restrictions off my new account but the kernel source is essentially an oldish set of code that just got released which like has been said ferries info between the hardware and software. This code can be altered to create custom kernels that introduce new overclock speeds gpu overclocks under volting and a variety of other tweaks/enhancements.
Think of it as hardware drivers on your computer. A lot of the hardware cannot be fully utilized or is really buggy if the software does not recognize all the hardware.

Yeah, think of a kernel as a bridge. You click something on the screen (hardware) and the kernel tells your software the screen was tapped. You press the power button and the kernel tells your phone to shut off the screen. The source code is basically the instructions or the "recipe" of how HTC made the kernel. It's useful because developers can tinker easier and add more customisations into the kernel.
