i installed skype and was able to make a call to my phone but i ended the call now it won't boot up all the way. it starts to boot up then says shutting down and powers off. gonna try to restore a back up now
i would advise against using skype. gonna try fring next to see if it will work. surely theres a video chat app that works with this thing...otherwise why does it have a cam?
my backup cured the booting problems, tried fring with yahoo messenger and it says yahoo does not support video chatting. i also tried the yahoo messenger apk with video chat add on and they do not work either it seems. just sucks that we have a pretty much useless video camera....for now.
yeah I really want a video chat program for this thing that works. Fring displayed video but the audio was crackling. I would love to find something that works so I can chat with my family when I leave town.

With fring I just pulled up the test call contact then selected video. Not much to it as long as you use the test contact or any other contact with the fringe client.

Can you post which apk you used and settings? I've tried a cooke and can't get it to work, needless to say when I try to pull from frings sure it doesn't recognize the device.
Will it work with skype clients?

I am pretty sure its this one, i messed my gtab up pretty good last night so i cant be for sure. This is the first time I have posted a file on here but hopefully I am not a total nub.
Edit: I think fring used to work with skype but they got a cute cease and desist letter so they pulled that out. This will only do video if you and the other contact have fring installed, that is why I used the convenient test call contact to test the video. Like i said it looks like the video is working but the audio is crackling terribly on mine. It may be that I dont have the latest apk or just a bad audio driver.
does skype need background data enabled?
Skype.apk
does anyone have the skpye.apk? The crippled market wont pull it.

Steve, are you on the Zpad bulid? I also had problems with the keyboard in that one, but the workaround would be to plug in a usb keyboard. However, Fring works with CM 6.1 Beta2.
Edit: The audio bites bigtime!
Skype works fine for me on full vanilla. Only voice though, it is not made for video. Fring no longer supports link to skype due to skype restrictions once skype licensed to cell providers. Fring works, but as was mentioned, audio crackle makes it useless for us.
I think this has already been posted somewhere and may not be what u r looking for but the yahoo messenger and video add on has voice call

Yes, I don't think Skype support Video yet right?
and Fring can't log onto Skype right?
On CM6.1 I have the yahoo messenger with video working. I can't type and video at the same time, limitation in the yahoo app, but I have video and sound working just fine going both ways.
I've got Skype installed on my ViewSonic GTablet and can make calls, but I get no audio?? any ideas? People can hear me fine, but I can't hear them at all.
odd
I have used both skype voice calling and yahoo video chat successfully on my tab. (currently running TnT lite 2.2)

yes, unforutnately fring is the only real skype platform that works - actually it's quite good, msn, yahoo and twitter integration
i just hate the fring user interface, and it sometimes re-downloads tweets all the time when switching cell towers (annoying)... seems it's not saving the chats/tweets locally
it's not the only one
nimbuzz support skype calls too, and i think its better in that area in comparison to Fring

yes, nimbuzz seems better, although lastly lacks in supporting skype..
i can't get Nimbuzz running.
when trying to call someone the app crashes. I get the waiting tone fine, but then it ends with a crash. can't even find out whats happening.
running aHero 0.5.2 ROM, don't know if that has something to say.
skype lite cause system instability to CM latest rom and force closed all the time.
nimbuzz and fring works great too, but nimbuzz seems use lot of battery life and cant show skype contacts when hiding offline ppl.
fring works great as nimbuzz, and use less memory and less battery draining . and can display both msn and offline skype ppl at the same list .
Here is the Verizon Skype APK's full client that was released this morning. I am sure this will be useful.
Thanks to Dino132!
Enjoy!

One of the reasons I picked up the transformer was the hope that I could make video calls of some sort with it. I remember some youtube of the TF101 doing it at CES and now that I own one, I'd like to see it work.

Dunno about other apps but I know Google talk video chat works great.
You do this in Google Talk, find one of your Gtalk contacts that has a little camera icon beside their name, and click on Video call.
If you dont have any, pm and you can add me as a Google Chat friend, and test a video call.

My mistake.
You can install Tango, this one allows video call cross platform i.e. iPhone users too.
The quality is excellent if you have a strong WiFi connection ( and the person your calling) also works from 3g if used from a handset or tab that uses it.
Also try qik.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I would like to be able to do video calls to computer with gtalk or any program... tango is only phone to phone.. so which rom has the bread update that makes it work?
You need 2.3.4 Gingerbread (CM7) and the correct updated version of GTalk that supports video. I've never used it but I've heard some people have success with it while others can't get it working. Video in GTalk is not yet released officially so your mileage may vary.
I was in the Tango beta which works well now. It is a free download from the Market.
I tried this out on my phone today, running the CM7 RC1, and it did not work. After entering my credentials for login, the app window minimized, then after several seconds came back up asking for the credentials again. I tried several times, making sure I was entering everything correctly. Oh well, no surprise here, nothing seems to work with this phone.

Vtok, out of the box, does not work at all for me. It gets to the contacts screen and displays all of nothing. As I understand it, those apps all require some sort of package file renaming that I am quickly growing weary of.
I appreciate the info. I'm really looking for a solid phone-to-desktop video chat client that has NOTHING to do with Yahoo--I abandoned them some time ago, and none of my contacts use them, either.
It just feels like the Google and Skype devs don't care whatsoever about our devices. I understand that the Tegra chips are sort of new in the Android world, but it feels like they are just being ignored when it comes to apps that utilize the hardware.

Unless I'm missing something here, the GTalk part of Fring doesn't allow video calls. I am completely not interested in phone-to-phone video calls, as no one I know has a phone with a front-facing camera. I'm looking for phone-to-desktop solutions, and I don't see a desktop Fring client--not that I'd accept that option because Google and Skype are fully capable of video calls. If my contacts have to sign up and install some new service then this is still a failure.

Nope. They don't need file renaming. You just need one file to be put in the framework folder and that's it.
Fyi, more phones and tablets are coming out with tegra 2 chips so what you are saying about "ignore" is a myth.

Hi guys,
As you know, our i9003 is not able to make video calls (3G or wifi). In Gingerbread doesn't work in any app, and only Tango and only in Froyo. As anyone port gtalk with video calling for our devices? Or mod some app like Skype, Tango, Fring or Ooovo to have video calls?
For a long time I have contacted a lot with the support of Tango, Fring and ooVoo. I have sent videos, many logs showing the issue, all they have asked me. But they aren't able to fix the issue. Even look at ooVoo email:
"Hi Unkalo,
Due to Ongoing Problems With This device is going to be it removed from the market. I'm sorry We Were Unable to get it working for you.
ooVoo is also available on PC and Mac, I hope you can join us there.
Best,
Roberta "

Nobody want to help with videocalls?
In the last days, I have been working with Fring and Tango support. They send to me mods of Frings and Tango, and I reported them the results, and I sent them logs, videos, and screen captures showing the issue, and they sent me a new version, I tried, and started over with logs, videos, screenn captures ...
Today, the results are:
Tango: In Froyo Ok. In gingerbread, fixed black screen, fixed rotation issue, and tango developers are working on zoom issue and audio issue.
Fring: In Froyo I think that green flickering issue, but I haven't been able to prove because I'm on Ginger. In Gingerbread: Fixed black screen, fixed rotation issue, fixed upside down issue, and fixed zoom issue. In Gingerbread after fix rotation and zoom, appears green flickering again. Fring developers are working to fix it. But they are working on it, and that's good news for our i9003, as developers tend to ignore our device.
Skype and oovoo. KO in Gingerbread (black screen) and KO in Froyo (green flickering).
Gtalk video: KO. If someone could carry a gtalk mod to our devices, would be the best of news.
I shall tell you of new results.
We really need to get Fixed VIdeo Call Issue on I9003
Skype, Yahoo..Paltalk video calls also not working. we can see others. they cant see us..
phone to phone video calls working on my device. but not on Internet video call
If you keep autorotate ON always also. camera freeze sometime.
I don't know why they don't want to fix this issue.. if u start Yahoo video call. phone just rebooting.. on Skype. only one side video working..
Expecting fix on future version!!! Lets all shout together..
Jei - Techsafe
XXKPQ 2.3.6
To see what's new today
Fring support sent to me this:
"Hi.
Our developers suspect it's a device driver issue or memory issue.
We'll keep Investigating .. I hope we find something.
I really want to thank you for your Enthusiasm and help, Could we have got so far Without it. "
Drivers or memory problem ....??
In addition, ooVoo, launched yesterday a new update, I've tried a video call to PC (I couldn't try with another i9003) and for the first time, the video works perfectly! Only with the audio I have a problem, that my voice is very very distorted ... You can try oovoo and report here your results. I'm ginger, would be nice if someone with Froyo can tell us how it goes.
Come on guys!
in ovoo front video is working but no sound and back camera
Hi Guys,
Fring support send to me a new version, and no green flickering, no audio issue and no rotation issue, only zoom issue. Fring uses 640x480 resolution (native resolution of front cam), with 320x240 no zoom issue but appears green flickering. We can almost make video calls. I show a picture:
But using the camera's native app, using the front camera on froyo, the preview image was similar to when there is green flickering at Fing (320x240):
but after upgrading to gingerbread, the preview shows different, like full screen . I send you pictures so you can get an idea:
I think that here comes the problem of zoom, can be caused by this.
This week will prove this version of fring with my girlfriend (she has a Froyo i9003) and see how it works.
But if successful, someone could port drivers or libs of Froyo, to work well in gingerbread?Any developer could try that?
What do you think about it?
Please respond any developer
PD. Here you have, but beware the fring.log, it is getting bigger and bigger. Can you tell me how it works in Froyo?, in ginger only zoom issue, but and in Froyo? Feedback please.
If you want you can add me as Fring friend, my fring user id is: unkalo

With the new version of ooVoo, at in gingerbread, video usually works well (if you have black screen, switch off cameras and it will works well, and if not send picture, hang up video call and call again), the only problem is with the audio, is heard very distorted and not understand anything. To fix it, up or down the volume of the call volume using the physical keys on the device, and that will fix the audio issue.
For now is the best we have so far, almost 100% functional.

Hi Unkalo. by any chance, have you tried this one already?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18290748&postcount=1492
DO NOT download the latest one. Click on v11 and try that one out. you need to uninstall your current skype if you have one installed before installing v11. after that:
1. go to menu -> advanced settings -> force enable video calling
2. go to menu -> advanced settings -> use valid preview surface
3. go to menu -> advanced settings -> front camera -> rotation -> 90 deg
I haven't tested this myself but based on the loooooong thread I read, this might work. I'll give it a try myself tomorrow afternoon (i9003 is my gf's phone and I won't be able to meet her until then). I'll try to post back the result as well.
a little off topic, I can see you have gone great lengths to make i9003's video calling possible and we highly appreciate it. thanks man!
