[APP] Skype Lite
Hey folks,
I was going through this forum and saw a few people asking for Skype Lite. I found the apk on my G1 and thought i would put it here for you guys. If its against the rules feel free to remove it or let me know.
Vonapets
its on the market isn't it? sucks anyway
It's a chat only skype client... doesn't seem very functional to me
Skype Lite for Android sucks!! I prefer Fring cuz voice and text chat work great, even with Skype web clients...

yes, unforutnately fring is the only real skype platform that works - actually it's quite good, msn, yahoo and twitter integration
i just hate the fring user interface, and it sometimes re-downloads tweets all the time when switching cell towers (annoying)... seems it's not saving the chats/tweets locally
it's not the only one
nimbuzz support skype calls too, and i think its better in that area in comparison to Fring

yes, nimbuzz seems better, although lastly lacks in supporting skype..
i can't get Nimbuzz running.
when trying to call someone the app crashes. I get the waiting tone fine, but then it ends with a crash. can't even find out whats happening.
running aHero 0.5.2 ROM, don't know if that has something to say.
skype lite cause system instability to CM latest rom and force closed all the time.
nimbuzz and fring works great too, but nimbuzz seems use lot of battery life and cant show skype contacts when hiding offline ppl.
fring works great as nimbuzz, and use less memory and less battery draining . and can display both msn and offline skype ppl at the same list .
Here is the Verizon Skype APK's full client that was released this morning. I am sure this will be useful.
Thanks to Dino132!
Enjoy!
** Update **
Sorry for the confusion but this has the two correct files.
com.skype.android.verizon.zip - Came from /data/app
com.skype.android.verizon.apk - Came from /data/app-private
New Download
And.... Pushed both files to /system/app
Thanks man i've been looking for this.
Your welcome installing to Nexus now. I shared before trying myself.
Will post back
I don't think this is going to work for T-Mobile and AT&T customers.
Just pushed the two files but no go, will play some more
Code:
com.skype.android.verizon.zip
com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
Also renamed and pushed but still not showing in Launcher
Code:

I need the old Fring APK that still had skype capabilities. The new one does not have skype anymore. Does anyone have an apk that they can post for me please?
Or at least point me to where I can download it? Muchas Gracias!
Uhh why did you make the same exact thread not even ten minutes after the original?
Hmm lets see....http://tinyurl.com/255l8lu aww shi- could that be it on the first hit?
Try the "direct link to the .apk [Link]" see if thats it. If it isn't sry i tried
Thanks. I did a google search before I posted. I downloaded several old fring apks, but none of them had skype in the add-ons section. Oh well. I'll just have to use google talk. Thanks anyway though, and sorry for being a pain.

apparently they removed Skype capabilities temporarily, not from the APK but from the server, they say because of network congestion... who knows if/when Skype will be added back.

Those in the whatsapp beta for Android should update your software ASAP, because they just put in push functionality for everyone with a 2.2 phone. Is this the only software so far not from google to actually use the 2.2 push function? (C2DM and the likes do not count)
how is it different to what its doing now?? i shall update soon after i finish charging

It doesn't poll like the old version anymore, and after some testing, I am getting my messages a little faster, because there is usually a 10-20 second delay when the app is sleeping, but this time it's like a 2-3 second after my friend sends me the text via whatsapp.
ahh right so there would be better battery life too??
Is the beta app available? Have they mentioned a release date?
Thanks

Whatsapp is probably one of the most useful apps for someone coming from a blackberry and misses BBMs. The difference is the speed but the main upside is that it's crossplatformed. Also the app is good for people that travel and have an open wifi spot. Free messaging to friends back home is well worth it.

Nope, but it should be within the next few months, it's already very stable other than some of the extra stuff like backgrounds, etc.

Yeah, since I have quite a few friends with an iphone and BB, I'm able to send them messages via my data plan.
AppBrain's Fastweb Installer uses C2DM too for installation of applications from your PC browser.
Anything that uses C2DM is immediately interesting, I'll check it out!

It's not using the same type of 2.2 push unfortunately.
hows it different?
EDIT: also seems like there are sometimes big delays between messages. whatsapp keeps disconnecting in the new version
I had to revert back to an older verison I believe. Newest version yesterday kept logging me off also and messages were stalled until I sent one out then they'd all come in.
Looked on the changelog and they took off the "Push Notifications"
Currently running: v1.0.6138
I'm using whatsapp on 2.1. working pretty well so far. ... thinking of getting 2.2 but no sense UI ROM for hero yet.
can we have a link to the apps apk?
Aww man, they removed push notifications via C2DM and the reason was they need to give google a quota? I have no idea what that means.
http://beta.whatsapp.com/test/7/WhatsApp.html
* google push disabled -- we need quota from google
really, what's the difference/advantage of using C2DM. i dont understand what's going on in the background.
Yepp.... just downloaded the APK from the link provided above... You can download and install it, but when it asks for your display name, you will get a message that says "Unauthorized beta user, DO NOT E-MAIL US", or something like that.
That's too bad because I loved it on my BB to chat with my iPhone friends, you would think that it would be easier and faster to create an app for Android and it would already be out in the market !!
it works!! everyone gets that message just wait till tommorrow and try again and it will work. Heaps of people have had success using this method. dont give up so easily
updated yesterday and they've been approved for the push notification via GOOGLE's c2dm.
Only thing i've noticed is that the app unlike iPhone's version doesn't time out while it's in the background. So it seems like you're always logged in. This could be corrected by a task manager app to kill the app but once you receive a new message it auto logs you on and double check marks the message as read.
i installed skype and was able to make a call to my phone but i ended the call now it won't boot up all the way. it starts to boot up then says shutting down and powers off. gonna try to restore a back up now
i would advise against using skype. gonna try fring next to see if it will work. surely theres a video chat app that works with this thing...otherwise why does it have a cam?
my backup cured the booting problems, tried fring with yahoo messenger and it says yahoo does not support video chatting. i also tried the yahoo messenger apk with video chat add on and they do not work either it seems. just sucks that we have a pretty much useless video camera....for now.
yeah I really want a video chat program for this thing that works. Fring displayed video but the audio was crackling. I would love to find something that works so I can chat with my family when I leave town.

With fring I just pulled up the test call contact then selected video. Not much to it as long as you use the test contact or any other contact with the fringe client.

I am pretty sure its this one, i messed my gtab up pretty good last night so i cant be for sure. This is the first time I have posted a file on here but hopefully I am not a total nub.
Edit: I think fring used to work with skype but they got a cute cease and desist letter so they pulled that out. This will only do video if you and the other contact have fring installed, that is why I used the convenient test call contact to test the video. Like i said it looks like the video is working but the audio is crackling terribly on mine. It may be that I dont have the latest apk or just a bad audio driver.
does skype need background data enabled?
Skype.apk
does anyone have the skpye.apk? The crippled market wont pull it.

Steve, are you on the Zpad bulid? I also had problems with the keyboard in that one, but the workaround would be to plug in a usb keyboard. However, Fring works with CM 6.1 Beta2.
Edit: The audio bites bigtime!
Skype works fine for me on full vanilla. Only voice though, it is not made for video. Fring no longer supports link to skype due to skype restrictions once skype licensed to cell providers. Fring works, but as was mentioned, audio crackle makes it useless for us.
I think this has already been posted somewhere and may not be what u r looking for but the yahoo messenger and video add on has voice call
I have the Zpad T2 and in order to make skype to work, I need to change the checkjni =0 in build.prop

Yes, I don't think Skype support Video yet right?
and Fring can't log onto Skype right?
On CM6.1 I have the yahoo messenger with video working. I can't type and video at the same time, limitation in the yahoo app, but I have video and sound working just fine going both ways.
I've got Skype installed on my ViewSonic GTablet and can make calls, but I get no audio?? any ideas? People can hear me fine, but I can't hear them at all.
odd
I have used both skype voice calling and yahoo video chat successfully on my tab. (currently running TnT lite 2.2)
So,
One of the reasons I picked up the transformer was the hope that I could make video calls of some sort with it. I remember some youtube of the TF101 doing it at CES and now that I own one, I'd like to see it work.
Can anyone step me through how they have done it, or if it's not workable or ....
Cheers,
gpearson1968
Dunno about other apps but I know Google talk video chat works great.
You do this in Google Talk, find one of your Gtalk contacts that has a little camera icon beside their name, and click on Video call.
If you dont have any, pm and you can add me as a Google Chat friend, and test a video call.

My mistake.
You can install Tango, this one allows video call cross platform i.e. iPhone users too.
The quality is excellent if you have a strong WiFi connection ( and the person your calling) also works from 3g if used from a handset or tab that uses it.
Also try qik.

very new in the android world so can someone list the steps for this to work.
Has anyone managed to get the leaked Skype Mobile with Video apk installed?
When I try it just says "Not Installed" - restoring with TB also fails.
Can someone tell me how to get the video chat to work between my transformer and a windows account using the Google Talk/Chat.
I was able to install the software on the windows machine butr not on my transformer. The google chat software said it was for windows (i.e. xp, win7 etc) only. Android was not mentioned. I also checked Android market and was unable to find anything related.
Thanks

I tried this out on my phone today, running the CM7 RC1, and it did not work. After entering my credentials for login, the app window minimized, then after several seconds came back up asking for the credentials again. I tried several times, making sure I was entering everything correctly. Oh well, no surprise here, nothing seems to work with this phone.

Vtok, out of the box, does not work at all for me. It gets to the contacts screen and displays all of nothing. As I understand it, those apps all require some sort of package file renaming that I am quickly growing weary of.
I appreciate the info. I'm really looking for a solid phone-to-desktop video chat client that has NOTHING to do with Yahoo--I abandoned them some time ago, and none of my contacts use them, either.
It just feels like the Google and Skype devs don't care whatsoever about our devices. I understand that the Tegra chips are sort of new in the Android world, but it feels like they are just being ignored when it comes to apps that utilize the hardware.

Unless I'm missing something here, the GTalk part of Fring doesn't allow video calls. I am completely not interested in phone-to-phone video calls, as no one I know has a phone with a front-facing camera. I'm looking for phone-to-desktop solutions, and I don't see a desktop Fring client--not that I'd accept that option because Google and Skype are fully capable of video calls. If my contacts have to sign up and install some new service then this is still a failure.

Nope. They don't need file renaming. You just need one file to be put in the framework folder and that's it.
Fyi, more phones and tablets are coming out with tegra 2 chips so what you are saying about "ignore" is a myth.
