[MOD] Remap Sense Rosie Buttons - MT3G Style Launcher - Updated 5/25 for Fresh 2.1.2

Attached are a few modified Rosie.apk files for remapping the bottom sense launcher buttons / functionality.
EDIT: Updated 5/25/10 with new versions supporting Fresh 2.1.2. See Here for downloads.
EDIT: This post revised on 5/8/2009, reflecting the fixed version. Some of the posts/comments that follow are referring to the older (original) version and no longer apply.
The first attachment (RosieMT3G.apk) moves the phone launcher button to the left, the app drawer, with fully functioning up/down (open/close) arrows, to the middle, and replaces the 'add shortcut' button on the right with an 'open contacts' button, similar to the functionality found in Zenulator's MyTouch 3G ROM.
The second attachment simply removes the left / right buttons, leaving you with a center only button for opening / closing the app drawer.
This will NOT modify your launcher graphics (in the first example espresso & second example a custom droid style launcher), as this is controlled in com.htc.resources.apk, however, it will switch out the icons (as shown), on your current Rosie / launcher, null out the 'Phone' text, center the launcher icon, and of course, remap the buttons.
What this does/will give you is the entire sense experience, but with a more 'Vanilla' launcher like functionality. For some, the best of both worlds.
Known Bugs:
None currently!
Push the desired apk to your phone's '/system/app' directory, or drop on your sd card and click to install.
You may want to backup your existing Rosie.apk, should you wish to return to stock.

EDIT 2: If you are designing a custom rosie using a concept / look similar to the stock HTC 3-button rosie, see here for an alternative XML file to replace in any of the attached apk files, to adjust the spacing used between buttons.
NOTE: After downloading your desired apk, rename to 'Rosie.apk' before pushing to your phone.

I decompiled Rosie yesterday and found a few .smali's to play with, but I got lazy. LOL Which ones are you looking at?
Edit, another suggestion would be downloading Zen's My Touch rom and rip apart Rosie from there. I loaded it up last night, but the 100% always on was killing my battery.

Yea, it's much easier to edit our existing rosie than to port over a different one using a newer/modified framework.
I was/am all other the place on this mod, but mostly working in 'launcher.smali' and 'Launcher$ButtonListener.smali', in addition to some XML edits.

Yea, I caught a few instances in Launcher.smail. I also saw there was one called slidingdrawer or something...You dont think the My Touch Rosie will give some insight on the bug?

I took a look at it, the framework is very different. Almost like apples and oranges. The bug is more related to the way I "hacked" it to work more than anything else.

Thanks for getting this working, now i can use the theme i made for zens rom the first day it came out, cus i really liked how it just looked cleaner, and the button mapping makes more sense logically. Thanks again.

Ok so i have spent the last few days rebuilding this rom from the ground up and i think it has a lot more potential...a lot of hard work went into it so far and i know there's a lot more work to go...This is update to my first rom for android but for those of you know my work with windows mobile you know to expect nothing less than quality from me.

...A lot of detail went into themeing this rom for literally 3 days of hunting pecking and modifying .9's and png's. so i hope you can see it for the beauty that it is...I will be working with konikub sometime in the near future on new themes for my rom...as well as others in the community.
You must be rooted with the latest build and radio in order to flash this rom!
A WIPE IS NO LONGER NEEDED!!!. If you are currently having any issues in your current rom, a wipe (data, dalvik, cache, and sd:ext) would be suggested.

and on a side note please pay no mind to the icons on the screen they're only there for the testing...i am currently creating a tinted window icon set for the evo that will be released with the final version of my rom...its going to take me that long to make them so work with me a little...thanks!!!

Just downloaded/flashed and am getting it set up. There are some pretty neat little surprises in the ROM. I wasn't expecting the lockscreen, which I really really like it.
Flashing the Novatec kernel and will likely overclock to 1.113ghz. Been running the Fresh ROM currently with those settings, and it'll be a little different going back to a Sense ROM, but I think I'm going to like it.
Much props on the design and all, is there any chance on getting the background without the HTC logo on it? I don't use the 4x2 clock and prefer to keep my main screen very clean, but man, I love the design on the bg.

not unless i spend another 34 hours editing it...unfortunately that is how the wallpaper came to me.

what you see in my rom is a heavily modified version of the enamored theme put out by konikub...i have not put a theme package together yet...

No worries, I just wanted to see if you happened to have a non-edited background available. I might try to see if I can photochop something together if I pull apart the .zip file. I'll post it on here if there is any interest and you give the ok.
One thing I noticed was that it seems all of the Facebook integration has been removed. I understand why (to cut down as much bloat as possible) but I wanted to see what .apk files I would need to pull from another ROM to get the FB contact sync working. I didn't realize how much I use it until I went to send a buddy an SMS message and realized I don't have him in my Google contacts.

so far so good. just got it up and running. one thing thus far, facebook would not set up for me on initial set up screen. kept tapping it but nothing happened. will try again but wanted to let you know. thanks.

Facebook for HTC was removed from this ROM. You will have to push the right files from a ROM that has them to get it working on this ROM.

Facebook was removed...still a wip...just get the HTC Facebook apk to suit your needs.

Best rom for the evo to date. Amazing color and phenomenal performance. Excited to see where this goes. Great work!

First off, this is in beta. Meaning I'm happy to help you if it gives you problems, but I might not care enough. This was made and tested on CM6, but should work on any AOSP Froyo ROM. Might work on 2.1, as well, as long as it is AOSP (dunno how many of those exist, people seem to actually LIKE Sense UI, which baffles me).
Been working on this since I got my evo rooted. I started out with just the circular status indicators, something I made for my iPhone years ago, but quickly became more than that (but honestly, not that much more ).
A quick list of things I changed off the top of my head:

Very pasible! Actually, no, I'm not going to make a special one for 2.1. But as I said, you can flash it on an AOSP 2.1 build (as in NOT sense based) and it might work! Good luck!

Fancy Widget but it was taken of the market a week or two ago, because the dev was hit with a C&D from HTC. You may be able to find an old apk in the forums. Good luck.

Yes, it will work on any CM6 build.

one last question, i'm not sure if this applies to you, but, since it's a theme issue, i might as well throw it out there: will using metamorphs to get transparent widgets work on this?

Well, tried to flash it to Fresh 1.0 and it just froze the splash screen.

Well it definitely won't work on Sense 2.1, sorry I should have made this more clear. It probably (almost definitely) will work on any AOSP ROM, 2.2 or 2.1 or whatever (Actually probably only those two).
Sense (and the ilk) based ROMs use a different framework, so even if it booted up you wouldn't see any of the changes I made.

I wish someone could port these to the evo. They are a lot smoother than the originals and the battery has the percentage built in to the graphics.

So, maybe you'll want to look into some of those options

I have flashed the services.jar on the last rom I was on and it worked good. Haven't tried it on Froyo yet. Just thought he had done a good job with the stock icons. Didn't really realize how much work it would require. But as I could see after your 1st post that there probably isn't going to be anyone willing or wanting to this anytime soon.
Edit: Cant say that I blame them, If I knew what I was doing I probably wouldn't want to mess with that many files.

services.jar just added the battery percentage.
I did read on another thread that someone installed the updated icons on an evo and the only part that didnt work was the battery icon. It worked while charging but that was it.

I ported it but didnt work it was off by 9% sorry guys

somebody should port this the animations are awesome

I've managed the port the graphics over to the EVO. Hopefully this doesn't get lost at the end of this thread. So far everything is working for me, but if anyone encounters anything let me know.

Awww, I ported it yesterday but didn't post because I was waiting for permission from Jerick. Oh well, at least it is now public for the Evo.
EDIT: Actually my version is slightly different graphically. I kept some of the Evo 2.2 icons instead of replacing them with the Desire ones, which I think are worse. Mine also has white text for the battery % instead of grey and the animated sync icon is green.
Mine works for Baked Snack 1.2.5 but I can make it work for any Evo rom if there are problems. You could also just copy my icons over to persibro's port if you want.

Haha, that's good to know. On a side note though, I think someone should make a new official thread for this in this section. Worst case is that many people won't come into this thread since the subject line is a question. I nominate you, faster, since you have a customized icon set.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. Mine isn't really that customized so much as it is using the stock Evo icons and not the other HTC icons. From my understanding the Evo has different (arguably better) stock icons than the other phones. At least, that is what I can gather. Your version has the other icon set.
I didn't actually change the battery percentage to white, Jerick did iirc. I found it a couple pages in on the thread for the Incredible's port. I only optimized them since they were pretty large files sizes.
The only real image editing I did was to make the sync icon green and fix the stat_notify_sync arrow positioning. In Jerick's rom the arrows are in the center but the stock icon (used in Jerick's version) has them 1px to the right. This difference bugged me.
What rom is your framework-res.apk for and have you tested it yet? I couldn't find any significant differences aside from the ones I mentioned above, and that your default_wallpaper.jpg is smaller than mine (which I will steal), compared to mine. I think that is a good sign. I also noticed that we both fixed the battery on sleep, which wasn't in the version I was porting.

The framework-res.apk is from flipz's rom, since that was as close to the stock framework-res that I had readily available. Since I use Calk's rom and it's semi-themed, the only testing I've done is flashing it and getting the modified icons to show up to see if they were displaying correctly. Everything seems to be working.
As for the battery on sleep thing, I honestly had no idea what the zzz xml files were for. I just saw that on the other framework-res files that had the battery displaying every percent had both the stat and zzz_stat xml file to have all of the icons displaying at their respective times, so I just swapped that too.

I just changed two of the icons so I will need to make a new update.zip. I will post the new one when I make the thread.

No, that isn't how it works. The icons are all inside the framework-res.apk, which is what themes change, so you can't just change the images you have to replace the entire thing. You can, however, make both of them work together. Send me a PM with a link to the theme and what you want to keep/change.

Enigma v1.2 is now up!! (see link below). was hoping there would be few people out there who would be willing to try it just so that i knew the installation i put together goes well, but no had no luck there lol
Everything is pretty similar to slideshow below.. just done few modz to lockscreen & some icons here and there. far from perfect but i thought its decent enough to release (i hope lol).
As for timescape.. not sure if it would automatically change or not! if it doesnt, u may possibly have to pick the theme from the themes menu. it would be the red 1. i know about the white text being wider than the button itself.. not exactly sure what button it is but pretty sure its based in framework-res.apk, which makes it harder. luckily its only a slight problem here n there but if anyone knows exactly which 1, im all ears!! lol
For changing fonts to your own liking please follow instructions from this thread - Changing Fonts.
Credit goes to XperiaX10iUser for the font, Chewitt for the installer, which i later modified & Calum for the Timescape support
Update - I have put together the font files & wallpaper within the theme package. have added the commands within main command file for installing the fonts and also updating the wallpaper section with the wallpaper that i use. should work!!
P.s - if anyone has market issues just after installing theme successfully. go to settings, applications, manage applications, choose market, uninstall updates & clear cache.. should do the trick!.. if not try the same routine except reboot before reopening market n accepting terms & conditions!!

Great work - it must have taken ages to complete!
Also, if you want to, I think that nearly all of your theme can be ported to 2.1 easily, without any editing or file renaming; you just have to put the files in the 'drawable-hdpi' folder of the apk you're changing, instead of the current 'drawable-240dpi' one.

It looks good mate, but I really like the goto lockscreen background!

I've been looking for some themes as well. But unfortunately, we don't have them on here. What apps or program did you use to make the theme work?

Hey if you make something nice some people will donate, but nowadays it's less. Look at the other one who made all the coloured themes, a few people donated but most people will Just use it, you shouldn't expect to get some, than everything you get is a bonus. I just donated to the other guy a few euro for his themes as I love the way my x10 is looking now. Personally I prefer reading lots of people appreciate your efforts and photoshop skills than earning a few bucks...but if it is outstanding some will donate to say keep on the good work.
For the wallpaper, I already found with google one which I will work on in cs4. Thanks anyway.

As for theming I used android sdk, the adb files, paintshop pro n winrar, also the converters calum had made.
Zyexx.. most are free from the market n others r paid for. Some of the icons u c on mainscreen r modified apk's.. not really appropriate cuz you lose the market connection for updates.. but I'm not really too bothered about that cause.they still work fine as is.

This may not be correct but it maybe combination of couple of buttons in framework-res.apk : btn_circle_*.png and ic_btn_round_more_normal.png
But it is possible that they may be same and i am still using default one .( i don't remember how they looked default )
