[MOD] Remap Sense Rosie Buttons - MT3G Style Launcher - Updated 5/25 for Fresh 2.1.2 - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Attached are a few modified Rosie.apk files for remapping the bottom sense launcher buttons / functionality.
EDIT: Updated 5/25/10 with new versions supporting Fresh 2.1.2. See Here for downloads.
EDIT: This post revised on 5/8/2009, reflecting the fixed version. Some of the posts/comments that follow are referring to the older (original) version and no longer apply.
The first attachment (RosieMT3G.apk) moves the phone launcher button to the left, the app drawer, with fully functioning up/down (open/close) arrows, to the middle, and replaces the 'add shortcut' button on the right with an 'open contacts' button, similar to the functionality found in Zenulator's MyTouch 3G ROM.
The second attachment simply removes the left / right buttons, leaving you with a center only button for opening / closing the app drawer.
This will NOT modify your launcher graphics (in the first example espresso & second example a custom droid style launcher), as this is controlled in com.htc.resources.apk, however, it will switch out the icons (as shown), on your current Rosie / launcher, null out the 'Phone' text, center the launcher icon, and of course, remap the buttons.
What this does/will give you is the entire sense experience, but with a more 'Vanilla' launcher like functionality. For some, the best of both worlds.
Known Bugs:
None currently!
Push the desired apk to your phone's '/system/app' directory, or drop on your sd card and click to install.
You may want to backup your existing Rosie.apk, should you wish to return to stock.

EDIT 2: If you are designing a custom rosie using a concept / look similar to the stock HTC 3-button rosie, see here for an alternative XML file to replace in any of the attached apk files, to adjust the spacing used between buttons.
NOTE: After downloading your desired apk, rename to 'Rosie.apk' before pushing to your phone.

I decompiled Rosie yesterday and found a few .smali's to play with, but I got lazy. LOL Which ones are you looking at?
Edit, another suggestion would be downloading Zen's My Touch rom and rip apart Rosie from there. I loaded it up last night, but the 100% always on was killing my battery.

Yea, it's much easier to edit our existing rosie than to port over a different one using a newer/modified framework.
I was/am all other the place on this mod, but mostly working in 'launcher.smali' and 'Launcher$ButtonListener.smali', in addition to some XML edits.

Yea, I caught a few instances in Launcher.smail. I also saw there was one called slidingdrawer or something...You dont think the My Touch Rosie will give some insight on the bug?

I took a look at it, the framework is very different. Almost like apples and oranges. The bug is more related to the way I "hacked" it to work more than anything else.

Thanks for getting this working, now i can use the theme i made for zens rom the first day it came out, cus i really liked how it just looked cleaner, and the button mapping makes more sense logically. Thanks again.

Thanks. It's by no means perfect, but it's a decent start.

Ha! Honestly, I'm not happy with it yet (it needs to be functioning perfect), but I don't have a lot of time right now to dig in deeper, but I'll get it eventually. However, it is good enough to be functional at this point...

Eclair Icons for AOSP 1.6 - signed flashable .zip!

I really love the AOSP 1.6 ROMs, especially the great work of quietcblongs, but I also love the newer graphical bits from Eclair and Froyo. So, I'm jumping the gun and doing some of the updates myself (that's what quiet wanted, right? Give us a working AOSP ROM that we can cook into what we like... )
I've taken the Eclair icons (credit to user gomorrah on this thread for pulling the icons) and successfully added them to quiet's AOSP 1.6 ROM.
Credit also goes to gbhil for his instructions and tools for making a signed update.zip here.
I'm not expert enough to say that this wouldn't break any other ROM, though... so don't try unless you're brave, k?
So, click on this link to grab the zip file and flash it to your phone: http://rapidshare.com/files/342500349/EclairIcons_forAOSP1.6-signed.zip.html
(Here's a "mirror" on my Dropbox account: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1161808/EclairIcons_forAOSP1.6-signed.zip)
In case I'm not being clear enough on what this is here's a screenshot of most of the icons that have been replaced.
(I'm running an almost completely brand new AOSP 1.6... flashed about two hours ago heh.)

Yes, the easy way to do this is to use MeatMorph or one of the other theme-ing utilities.
Personally I just feel that's one more thing that could break *shrug*
Better to just replace the stuff than to rely on another utility.
I'm trying to get the new power control widget and app drawer / launcher pulled and placed into quiet's ROM. Wish me luk.

Thanks to gomorrah, you can download the icons (in their apk file structure) from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5467884&postcount=141
It should work fine if you want to replace the PNGs within each apk on your ROM.

I believe that's voice signal. Haven't thought about it much since flashing the AOSP ROM except to notice that there is one more icon up there lol.
That's correct, the "C" signal is your cell signal & the "EV" signal is your EVDO signal.

yeah honestly its a lot easier to do with metamorph and with all the other available mods for metamorph (launcher, widgets, dialer, etc) you might as well get it and learn to use it
Thanks it looks great!

True, it's a good option. The thing for me is that I am taking quiet's AOSP ROM and treating it as a barebones. The more I find that I like and learn to do the more I'll customize it for myself. I just happen to want to share some of the bits and pieces

[MOD] Remove Text From Home Screen and/or App Drawer Icons (Rosie) - Fresh 2.1.2

It has been referenced that there are alternative home launchers (ADW) that enable you to remove the text underneath the icons on your home screens. The question was posed as to whether or not the same could be done with our stock Rosie, and via a few strategic edits, it can.
Attached is a MetaMorph that you can use to apply to your existing Rosie.apk, that will remove the text from the icons on the homescreen, while retaining any previous edits done to your Rosie launcher. It does not currently recoup the space that the text previously occupied, however, it does allow for a "cleaner" look.
XML MetaMorph Control File <--- Apply using the latest MetaMorph Application
THM MetaMorph Control File <--- Apply using any older MetaMorph Application
Note: When modifying Rosie.apk, any of your existing widgets on all of your screens will likely get reset and need to be re-added.

THM MetaMorph Control File <--- Apply using any older MetaMorph Application
Note: When modifying Rosie.apk, any of your existing widgets on all of your screens will likely get reset and need to be re-added.

Funny you ask, but you might want to pucker up .
In trying to figure out the mod posted, I actually accidentally did exactly what you are asking, but didn't think there would be much use for it, since there are a lot more apps in the drawer, and it may be difficult remembering what they are without the text.
i would also like it with out txt in the app drawer. But I'm using Darchdroid with AWD Launcher. Will it work?

Okay, the first post has been modified to include another MetaMorph for removing the text from the app drawer icons. It is separate / independent of the home screen mod. I personally think it is a little confusing / difficult to easily figure out what is what, but to each his own!
Reference:
Modified it to fit my theme figured I would share it
This looks great. I would love to use it but I don't know much about Metamorph. I have read some of the links that explains what it is,how to use it, and You-tube links where the creators explain stuff and still feel unsure as what to do exactly. My brain really doesn't work well reading stuff, I am more the kind that has to watch and see somebody do it to really get it.
Is there an idiot guide for metamorphing out there? Or somebody willing to walk me through it? The good thing is that when I learn it I don't have to ask again...

Being an end user of MM, it is really as simple as downloading the free app from the market, dropping the download link in the OP onto your SD card (in the AndroidThemes folder preferably), and applying with the MM application.

Sounds simple enough. Will give it a shot later.
Thanks.
To JsChiSurf:
I've applied two of your mods successfully (I'm a big fan). I have been using your "Vanilla Lockscreen WITHOUT Sprint/Time/Date text" and your "Remove 'End Call' Soft Key While Call is in Progress & Vibrate on Connect" for a while.
However, yesturday I applied 3 more of your mods: the "Remove Battery & Clock from Taskbar", the "Remove Text From Home Screen (Rosie)" and your "Android 2.0 Style Vanilla Rotary Lockscreen Clear Version" and I'm now having problems.
8-10 times today without warning, my phone completely shuts down. I go to check my phone or make a call, and as I attempt to clear the lock screen to get to home I find the whole dang phone has turned itself off. I attempt press the 'on' button -- doesn't work, requiring me to pull the battery to reboot (which then works fine). Big problem, as I have missed several work calls. I even put the phone on the charger, and returned later to find it had shut off. Battery temp and life are completely fine.
I ask, not to offend you, but only to ask if you have heard of this happening with any of your mods? I have nandroid'ed back to pre-mod and I am still having this happen. I had no problems prior to the 3 new mods yesturday. Do you maybe have any suggestions?
All the mods were applied successfully and I was very, very happy with their appearance and your awesome work. Could any of these mods maybe be incompatible with each other? Incompatible with Flips 2.1 version 1 ROM?

It may not seem like too much, but I must say, these modifications were so burried and locked down its not even funny. HTC obviously did not want resources like these to be modified, so flash at your own risk. I'm not responsible for any damage caused as a result of using these modifications. They are for educational purposes only.
New! Custom mappings! (Google Voice, Handcent, and Browser. More to come!)
(flash just like any rom. since this is a rosie replacement, there is a good chance you will need to redo/re-add all of your third-party widgets)
Sexy Rosie with Custom Mapping for Google Voice! 1.0
Sexy Rosie with Custom Mapping for Handcent! 1.0
Sexy Rosie with Custom Mapping for Web Browser! 1.0

hehe thanks for the kind words.
Any chance of getting this in a MM? I really do not want to apply this and erase my current theme.

thanks for your hard work this exactly what I've been looking for as far as the Rosie is concerned. It kills me not to use this I can't give up my manUp rEVOlution them. This post is probably useless, but I just thought I'd let everyone know that this does indeed work with the latest Froyo leak (possibly the official OTA). As always, make sure you backup before installing.
Great work on this btw, this has made Sense UI tolerable for me. Much appreciated.

I would be surprised to see if some rom cookers didn't start asking to use this one.
only bug i've seen has already been mentioned, the phone button doesn't light up green like the others.
only request I have is to see if you can make the notification pulldown be a transparent grey instead of the bright white..
Awesome work.
Hey guys,
Bumping for suggestions.
I was able to successfully remap the right 'add to homescreen' button to any application. I'm looking for suggestions as to which applications you guys use most, that may need sexy rosie's attention.
So far I have
1- Google Voice
2- Handcent
3- Web Browser
4- Gmail
Looking for just a few more. Let me know what you think!

Would web browser go to the built in one or one that is set as default... for example if we install dolphinHD and set it as default, would it load that? (or perhaps just have an addition for dolphinHD if not).
besides that, the list looks good to me.
I would say the browser would be the best. Thanks for the rosie mod. The dock was the only thing I didn't really like in sense ui.

Nice. I don't think I even have any TouchPro roms on my PC anymore. My PC did take a crap a while back, so I always backup the important **** these days.
Be Helpfull
Guys, would you knock it off with the useless posting.. these messages don't help anybody, and they're not even funny.
Has anybody tried this ROM out yet? is it any good?
Any issues so far?

I still have a Diamond sitting here, and I'm pretty sure it has a grooveROM on there.
Lotta good options here for the EVO- looking forward to trying this one out.
Welcome groove, seing so much more faces from the nold winmo days on here now. I used your ROMS on the diamond and Touch Pro, This one should be great too.
Just got done flashing and setting everything back up.
Pros:
Stock Look
Snappy & Fast
Cons:
No battery percentage in statusbar
Stock Rosie (I prefer expresso)
I'm going to play some more and report back. Great work!!
EDIT:
I've got an update.zip that changes the Cons mentioned above, but the internet nazis here at work won't let it upload. I'll post it later tonight.
FYI: I used Calk's current Rosie, a previous version of Calk's lockscreen, and a white gauge battery meter.
Thanks for the kind welcome guys. There sure a lot of Evo roms to choose from in this forum, so I do appreciate anyone who tries mine out.
Hey Eric, I will likely switch up to espressio rosie in the future, but trying not to move too fast with changes. That's something that I learned in my WM cooking days -- just do a few mods at a time, so you don't screw to pooch entirely.. That battery mod I'm kinda on the fence about though. On the one hand it's nice to be able to quickly know the exact battery %, but on the other hand I find myself becoming quickly obsessed with watching the battery levels all day. Personally I usually add the HTC Battery widget to one of the Sense screens to quickly get exact battery % when I need it, and don't have to get too obsessed about it. I would like to see the espresso.zip you are using, so I can test it out if it works well with this rom. Thanks.
Smooth sense is an easy mod ... puts the percentage in the battery icon. Good to see you working on the Evo ... missed you, Bud.
Wow, Inda finally jumped over to Android, where ya been man??. I remember the good old Diamond and Winmo 6.5 days. I am definitely interested in seeing you work some magic for the android community. Nice to have you here.
Good to see you here groove. I loved your Diamond's roms.
I totally understand on not applying to many mods at once. I remember searching through the WM kitchen trying to figure out what happened. Not fun.
Here is the link to the .zip file I mentioned earlier.

I used the framework-res and com.htc.resources from your ROM so that I didn't accidently revert to a previous version or create a conflict.
The only thing I wasn't able to quickly figure out this morning was how aamikam was able to make the icons in the app drawer not so close together and smaller. Oh well, I'll leave that up to the pros.

I love caulkins rosie, my favorite. Is this the one with the sense icon while in app drawer and right hand browser?. Will this file give me that as is? or would i need to swap the framework? Thanks.

[App][Updated: 3/17/2011] Inverted Contacts Application - HtcContacts.apk

After much consternation and having stepped away from my first attempt for a few weeks, due to issues finding a few troublesome locations for inverting, I believe I finally have a version adequate for release. This inverted app is based on Sprint release 3.70, deodexed ROM.
The inverted HtcContacts.apk supplied is 100% stand-alone, meaning all elements needed to support the application inversion, which were previously part of shared resources in com.htc.resources are now stored directly with the supplied apk. While doing it this way requires a significantly greater amount of work, it is beneficial in the long run, as inverting as a stand alone application means NO impact in any way on other applications that share resources within com.htc.resources (or framework-res for that matter). Inverting in this manner requires extensive XML, resource, and .smali code edits.
Please consider this a work-in-progress. I believe I have found most locations, however, there are so many screens, fonts, backgrounds, etc, that it is certainly feasible that I missed a few things. If you find such instances, please report so in this thread and I'll do my best to track down. It's also important to note that after some clicks, you may see the old school white background with black text. In such instances, you are likely being taken out of contacts and into another application altogether, such as when you click the 'Facebook' link in the online directories tab (tab 3), or 'Company Directory', etc.
Per user requests (and I agree), I've also renamed the application to 'Contacts', as opposed to 'People', so when you go looking for it in your app drawer, be sure to look farther up in your list than its previous location.
Here are a few screen captures of the inverted application:

}
The attached zip file, to be flashed via recovery, now supports both old school update-script, and new school updater-script syntax, which means it should work for any recovery version you may be running.
Update 3/14/2011: Version 2.0 provided with fixes to 2 screens that were missed originally (setting a default action from the people widget & settings screen for specific contact's updates & events)
Update 3/17/2011: Version 3.0 provided with with fix to text on contacts photo picker dialog screen.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo =]
about to test this out!
Your the best! I know you can port over the aosp phone.apk!

Awesome work again JS. Just wondering, is this completely free from com.htc.resources? Meaning, you built in everything like com.htc.widget.TabSwitchWidget, etc. that handles the bottom slider? Or you just replaced xml and image references to com.htc.resources only?
EDIT: Thanks.
i know its a minor thing to ask for but do you have this with the original name, People?
if not where is the string located? thanks. =]

Thanks. It is not completely free from com.htc.resources, rather, anything that is related to being able to invert the application ONLY, is free from com.htc.resources, which is mostly XML and PNG related.

You simply modify the app_label(?) string in the string resources that the manifest points to.

Flashed on chingys incredibly. Re-engineered no problem. Nice work, now I need to find an inverted dialer to go with it.
Js. Are you going to be working on this for Myn's Z ROM also? Thank you again for this. It looks sick!
