[Q] In need of a workaround for the Odyssey AppCenter - General Questions and Answers

Just got a new Intermec N50 from work, wich runs Windows Mobile 6.1.
Now the thing is, the it guys have installed a program called Odyssey AppCenter. This program wont allow any other programs to run other than the ones they have defined. (IE, calc, clock, wireless manager, power, screen and a work program). I can download and install programs. Even run them through IE (file:///program%20files/folder/file.exe) But they are closed almost instantly by Odyssey. I was thinking about a cmd kill file wich would kill the odyssey program. Any help appriciated

Problems accessing logMeIn via pocket pc

Hi I am having a problem accessing my pc from my pocket pc XDA 2i. I can access fine from a "normal" pc with no problems. From the XDA I can log in, then pick the remote pc from the my computers list, then enter my password and username, but the next page which would normally be the desk top, is a page showing the logmein free logo the name of the remote pc, a copyright notice, and an option to end the remote session. I cannot get any further than that !............hope you can help...........Thank you.
P.S. I am running NetFront 3.3 browser

Try it from Pocket Internet Explorer.
Hi, I have tried it with Internet Explorer, and I get the same result
I have e-mailed LogMeIn support 7 days ago but still no answer
I've tried as well on my treo 750 and am having the same problem. I thought I read somewhere that the current version of logmein is not compatible with WM5. It works great between my computer at work and home though.

It's comptible with WM5 as is also pointed out in the Remote Desktop Access Bible ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 ).
I've tried everything and cannot seem to get logmein to work. I log in to the website and then enter the login and password for my desktop computer and all I get is a screen showing the version of window I am using along with some memory usage bars. I can restart or my computer remotely, but that is all I seem to be allowed to do. As I mentioned before I don't have any problems accessing my computer from other desktop computers. One thing I have found is Z2 remote access. It's a bit slow, but works pretty well. The only thing is that it is not free, but it is only a one time fee for the software.
I'm thinking that this might me a browser issue. At least for me. If I use minimo I can at least get to the page that says remote control and end remote session. However when i click on it ends up going to a blank screen with nothing there. Can anyone who has this working tell me what their registry setting are for PIE, as far as showing it to be a PPC app rather than IE5. I think that I've modified it a few time and don't know what the default settings ar.
Hi There is no line saying "Remote Control" unfortunatley
Hi I tried modifying the settings, now its gone very strange, when I select my computer I know get connected to Remotely Anywhere, then a page showing text saying Windows XP, cpu load (No percent shown), Memory load ( no persent shown), Main menu, Reboot, end remote session. But I dont have a remotely anywhere account....very weird
Hey 600bhp. You might want to check on the logmein.com forums. There are two threads. One is titled " Problems accessing via pocket pc" and the other is " Why is Pocket PC no longer supported?" It would seem that logmein does not support ppc's for some reason if you downloaded it after 02/20. logmein is aware of the problem and apparently working on it.
LogMeIn Cab File for Pocket PC
I have been having a lot of the same issues. I have a PRO account so I called technical support. They sent me the following file. I've been connecting like a champ ever since. I use the bleeding edge beta version on my PC. This file also works with the regular version.

Anyway if it's the same then I agree works perfectly.

Are you TREO 750 owners still having issues? I'd like to know as I was
thinking of trying the 750 but need LMI for sure!
I know one this for sure the OPERA browser on PPC (WM5) will just go in loops, so LMI is the only thing I use IE for on my WM5 device(s).
Having have said that if the IE is somehow custom on the Treo 750? Could that be it??
logmein access issue
I'm using my HTC p3600 and trying to download the remote access client sw no chance to obtain it, dwl stopped.
can I download your "ractrice.cab" file and install it directly into mobile device?

I have a Treo 750 with the official ATT WM6 rom. I cant get logme in to work either. Here's what happens.
1) I visit http://logmein.com via pocket IE
2) I get redirected to http://secure.logmein.com/pda
3) I log in with my email address and password
4) I'm presented with "My Computers" and I click on a hyper link of one.
5) I'm asked to download RACtrlCE.cab
6) I save and install to main memory
7) I click the continue link on IE
8) I'm asked to log in again
9) I'm presented with "My Computers" again
10) I pick one, I'm asked to log in again!!!
11) I see "My Computers" again (endless loop)
What's wrong??
Gotomypc worked great when I used to have a free account through my work. Why doesnt logmein work on my pda?
update
I uninsatlled the RACtrlCE.cab via remove programs
I installed the ractrlce.cab from page two of this thread
I tested logmein.com on my treo. When it asked to download and insatll RACtrlCE.cab I clicked cancel to force it to use the other package. (no luck) Ok so I let it upgrade. It uninstalled ractrlce and installed the one directly from logmein once again.
It seems I can get further now for some reason but I'm still not connecting. Here's what I see now. I get redirected to the following url and the page has the following info:
http://asterisk.app53.logmein.com

dweller .exe installer

i'm sure this is a repost as this was quite a popular application i used back in the hey day of pocket pc's, it still works on my 6.0 dash and shadow fine...
this program is to install programs that are in the form of .exe directly to your phone instead of having to do it connected to a computer... basically making a .cab file uncessary, but cabs are still more efficient

Multiple Java instances?

Hey everyone,
I am a newly transitioned Smartphone user (from Windows Mobile Professional), and I'm loving every bit of it thus far. Back on my Wizard, when I would run Java programs, I would be able to use multiple Java programs at one time. For example, if I were running both Opera Mini and Gmail, when I clicked on the Midlet Manager, it would take me to a screen where I can choose between which program I want to go into.
So, much to my chagrin, after having tried different midlet managers on the smartphone, it seems as though I can only run one program at a time. Whenever I go to open the program, it brings me straight to whatever program is currently running. Is there any way around this? I am trying to use some sort of instant messaging program at the same time as Opera Mini, yet it seems as though I am not able to do so. I am currently using the Pantech Duo with WM6.1, if this is at all relevant.
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
- Mark

WM6 memory manager: possible to leave more apps open?

Hi, I have moved from HTC Tornado to Samsung i600 (with WM6), and I think that it kills background applications very eagerly:
For example, on HTC Tornado I could run JVM (opera mini), media player, browser, IM, Total commander and even though the memory was almost full, everything worked, and I could return to a page in opera mini after a day of other work.
Not so on i600, usually running WMP and IE is enough to get JVM in background killed, even though there's enough (12MB+) of free RAM. I think that it kills background tasks too eagerly...
I did know about a registry key that changes memory manager's behaviour, but I cannot google it (no matter the phrase I use, I get mostly task-manager tools).
Can you remind me of correct registry path? Thanks!
I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=228 , but it is only for HTC devices (I don't have the HTC reg key). And http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373128 discusses this as well, but again, no solution for non-HTC phones.
Wohoo, it should be this: http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/540062-1.html
Trying to make the best of both worlds, I decided that perhaps the MPx220 is worth taking another look at if the memory management issue could be resolved. After all, with Media Works, I want to keep Agile Messenger open all day to receive IMs, while using the phone, surfing, playing games, etc.
Then, it dawned on me - why is the Audiovox SMT5600 with an apparently older revision of WM2K3 running things better than the newer MPx220?
A couple of registry keys.
MPx220:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\LowMem ]
"ResetDivision"=dword:1
"ProgramMem"=dword:32
SMT5600:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\LowMem ]
"ResetDivision"=dword:0
"ProgramMem"=dword:96
After forcing in the SMT5600 settings on the MPx220, I ran Agile Messenger and connected. Then, I ran Internet Explorer. Launched Agile again, and same copy of Agile still came back, still connected. Launched MSN Messenger. Launched Agile again, still accessible and running. Launched Tasks, Contacts, Calendar, File Manager, Resource Management. Returned to Agile Messenger, still running! With all these programs running simultaneously, Agile Messenger is still active and connected!
With the original registry settings, Agile Messenger would get lost in the memory and a new instance of Agile Messenger would launch, and not be able to connect because the original copy was still connected.

I'd be happy if I had those registry entries... but I don't. Did it really work?
Yes, it works, now I can have many apps open, and even with 2MB of free RAM, none will be closed. If you don't have the keys, try creating them, as far as I know, it should work on at least all smartphones (maybe touchscreen devices as well but I don't have one to test)

LogMeIn + Windows Mobile 6.5 / 6.1.4 Problems

Hello Guys,
I recently contacted the LogMeIn Mobile support team and there are lots of people here which has problems using Logmein with your phone. Here is their reply:
--
Hello,
You can use a Windows Mobile device to connect to your LogMeIn computer.
Device requirements:
Windows Mobile 5/6/6.1
Touch Screen
ARM CPU
You must use Pocket Internet Explorer as third party browsers are not compatible with the LogMeIn Remote Control plug-in. You must also use the generic Windows Mobile keyboard, as specialized software keyboards may not transmit characters correctly.
Successfully tested devices:
Model
Also Known As
HTC Apache
PPC-6700, XV6700
HTC Mogul
PPC-6800, XV6800, P4000
HTC Touch
XV6900, P3450
HTC Touch Diamond
PPC-6950
HTC Touch Pro*
Fuze, P6500
HTC TyTN
Hermes, 8525
HTC TyTN II
Kaiser, Tilt, 8925
HTC Wing
P4350
Palm Treo 700wx
LG Incite CT810
Samsung Epix i907
Samsung Omnia i910
Samsung Saga SCH-i770
Samsung SCH-i760
Samsung SGH-i830
Note: If you're unable to use your HTC Touch Pro's keyboard during a remote control session, this is due to a key mapping problem brought upon by the device's eT9 text prediction software. While we do not directly support this, you can find other users' best practices and workarounds on the LogMeIn Community http://community.logmein.com.
Also, we have discovered an issue when connecting to a LogMeIn computer using a mobile device running Windows Mobile 6.1.4 / 6.5 and IE6 Mobile. Currently, it is NOT possible to connect with these devices due to incompatibility with the plug-in.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

LogMeIN IE6/8 workaround
I have found a work around there is an ap called I.E. Toggle I got from PPCGeeks.com that allows you to switch back to Pocket IE from IE6. This is a great tool and use it just for this, best of all you dont need to soft reset it does it on the fly.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=65154
No joy in Win Mobile 6.5
I had logmein working nicely in win mobile 6.1 using IE Toggle, unfortunately having upgraded to 6.5 it no longer works.
When I log into logmein using PIE it directs me to download and install the RACtrlCE plugin but when I go to the link it downloads RACtrlCE.tsk (which does nothing useful) rather than RACtrlCE.cab like it used to. I tried installing it from a cab I had but that didn't work either so after searching around I ended up here. I guess logmein and 6.5 is still a no go, I have contacted logmein support to ask if they have an eta on a fix.
I really wish they'd just do a stand alone app for windows mobile, it would be so much easier.
I was actaully able to run logmein using IE toggle and a cooked rom on my TP2 using WM 6.5.1 (one of the *energy* roms). Although I just re-flashed to another rom that was more stable overall running WM 6.5 and now encounter the same problem described above. I am directed to the .tsk instead of .cab for the plugin, which does nothing...

wow. thank you. logmein finally works on my samsung saga. i am however very dissapointed in the support from logmein. i had an email chain with their support dept about the issue with windows mobile 6.1 . First they said it works, then i finally got them to achnoledge that logmein has an issue with wm 6.1 . After that they would not even respond to my emails. I would ask them when they expected a fix and no answer at all.
i wish there was an alternative to logmein other than rdp or others that require port forwarding .
I've now found that if you rename the downloaded RACtrlCE.tsk file to RACtrlCE.cab it will install and then logmein will work using IE toggle. Hope that helps you out.
I got logmein to work on my TP2 WM65. I installed PIE
Rebooted the device.
Then installed IE Toggle
Launched IE Toggle and selected Pocket IE and went to logmein
Logged in installed the plug in and it worked.
Sorry if this was posted previously.

Spoke to soon, there is an issue with it that I could not fix. After loading these cabs Logmein did indeed work.
However the changes caused my TP2 to not be able to display text conversations. You click on a text message and it would display the keyboard and say one conversation selected but you were still seeing the default list of texts, you couldn't see what you were typing? SMS messaging still worked but you couldn't use the default conversations lists.
I have since removed all the cabs for logmein and SMS messages are displaying perfectly again?
This cab breaks the text messaging, it seems: XDA WM 6.1 P.I.E For WM6.CAB.
I'm able to get everything working if I don't install that cab. My only issue is that the key mapping with KforTouchPro_v1.0.0.3.CAB (which I believe is needed also) isn't quite perfect, from what I can tell.
SOLUTION - this works
Heres a solution for those of you who have been finding that logmein wants to download RACtrlCE.cab file to install on your phone and that this doesnt seem to do anything, it wont install. Heres why. Youll love this, its actually quite simple.
When the file downloads it says its a cab file, which should by all rights install, however on my phone it brings up the "Windows Mobile Today" which allows you to select backgrounds/screensavers for your mobile. Why? Its because when it saved the file it put a hidden .tsk on the end a on windows mobile file name extensions like .tsk .jpg .avi etc are hidden from you so all you get is the name of the file but not its .jpg bit so "john.jpg" becomes just "john"... its named the file RACtrlCE.cab.tsk but your mobile doesnt show you this file name is says its a .cab so this is why it doesnt fire up.
So what you need to do is rename the RACtrlCE.cab.tsk back to RACtrlCE.cab and it will run.
2 WAYS TO DO THIS....
Sync your device on your pc or mac and use "explore" to get in to your mobile folders from your computer and find RACtrlCE.cab.tsk and on a PC it will show the needed .tsk bit
**(provided your PC views mode isnt set to hide filetypes - if it is go to windows explorer on pc, tools menu at the top of screen, folder options, and untick "hide extensions for known file types". If your on Win7 youl find the folder options in CONTROL PANEL... does the same thing)**
Right so now you can see your RACtrlCE.cab.tsk and youve renamed it RACtrlCE.cab unhook the phone from pc and go to the folder where RACtrlCE.cab is and click it and hey presto, it installs perfectly.
Now the next bit is to use the IE6 toggle software if your getting problems and this will allow you to switch from IE6mobile to PocketIE6 which can run the logmein application. (IE6 toggle page is listed earlier in this same thread
METHOD2:
Oh yes if you want to do this renaming of the file on your phone without PC connected, "File Explorer" wont show you the .tsk bit on the end, its hidden and always will be because "file explorer" is dumbed down. What you need is a tool called "total commander" which I think is free (?). Install this and its a powerful file explorer which does show you the .tsk bit which you can easily rename to just .cab and then you can double click the file RACtrlCE.cab in total commander and hey presto the .cab installs.
Hopefully this fix will blow you away.
This was done on a HTC Touch HD2 phone with original T-Mobile ROM unlocked and put on to the latest generic HTC official ROM.
