[Q] internet sharing from a WM6.5 phone to Android tablet? - General Questions and Answers

I have an HTC touch 2 running WM6.5 with a custom rom. I use internet sharing all the time with my laptop (running XP) while at work. Much cheaper than the stupid dongles
I am looking at getting an ePad tablet pc running android 2.1 or 2.2 for Christmas.
My question is: can I simply turn on the internet sharing on my phone and plug the usb into the new android tablet; and will android pick it up as a generic internet sharing device like my laptop?
If not is there an app that will allow this?
I prefer to use the usb cable while sharing the connection as it keeps my phone charged up at the same time. If this is not possible will I be able to share the connection over blue-tooth, or will I have to resort to running a mobile WiFi router app on my phone?
Thanks

I'm really surprised that I have no replys to this?
Hasn't anyone tryed it yet??

Quick google search turned up a few ways to make this happen. I for one always used MyWY for my IPhone and used it as a wifi hotspot for my ipad when i had both of them. I'm seeing that you can of course do this with your phone and an android tablet also. If you do not want to use the "hotspot" option and just use the wifi on your tablet to connect to your cellphone to use the internet connection, you can do one of the following instead:
bluetooth using PDAnet (from what I've read) and you can also use the USB connection to tether the two for use of your cellphones internet. I've found nothing that states this is the case for ALL tablets though. From what I see, a lot of the tethering options out there that people are using require you to install a driver to use your cellphones internet connection with a PC/laptop with an USB cord. So using the USB might be hit and miss in this case.
I would look into the wifi hot spot option or using bluetooth. The only drawback to this is the battery usage on your cellphone is going to be HIGH.
I'm not sure if that is of any help to you at all man. It's the best I can come up with right now though, sorry. I hope you get it figured out

I'm using Archos 101 and HTC tytn WM 6.1
I had the same concern for my new bought Archos tablet. It can't pair up with my WM 6.1 and therefore I'm seeking other ways to solve it. such as finding software to let my WM6.1 act as a Wireless router so that my Archos device can connect to it as normal Wifi connection. Hope someone can give advice to this post. thanks.

WMwifirouter should get you guys going. I guess if your phone will connect via usb to the tablet that it will get it's power via that but I can't imagine that the output USB power is enough to charge the phone over it's discharge rate. I guess I mean to say that you will extend your phone's battery life but it will still drain while connected.
That's all I can offer.
Oh HTC has a wifi router app that was free on my last phone...well free in the NRG romz.

I'm still using my WM6.1 Smartphone but carry an Nexus 7 Android Tablet around, too. So I decided to couple them!
Setup was easy:
1. Connect devices via BT
2. Share Internet Connection (WM Smartphone)
3. Use Internet Connection (Android Tablet)
4. Enjoy!
It's similar to using the connection on Ubuntu: http://www.serkey.com/ubuntu-intern...-between-windows-mobile-and-linux-bejgbv.html

Windows Mobile WiFi Signal for Internet on PC

Hey I am just learning the basics of smartphones. And I switched from Windows Mobile to my new Samsung Android. Anyways my question is: I have an old HTC Pure. I was wondering if I can use the phone as a wireless router. Use it to get the wifi signal and then connect it to my pc via usb and use the wifi to go on the internet on my pc.
Here are the basics. I have a PC in a room with no phone jack and the pc has no bluetooth or wifi. So I was wondering if I can connect my HTC Pure via usb and use the pure's wifi to brosw the web.
Thanks

Any app out there to get internet from your PC? Opposite of phone tethering?

Hello everyone. First let me explain that I have a capped data plan since I'm surrounded by wifi besides work.
Now here is my question. On my old tilt and tilt 2 which were windows based were capable of getting internet from simply plugging them into a PC via USB. The phone would then use internet from the computer itself.
I have a galasxy s (captivate) . Are there any apps to do such a feat?

I might have completely misunderstood what your saying, but could you not turn the wifi on from your phone and connect to them?
Wifi is not allowed at my work. Sorry should have said that.

i hope you are using windows 7 on your laptop...if you are, then download 'connectify'...its easy to set up and will turn your laptop into a wifi hotspot so that you can use your laptops internet connection on your phone... cheers
Its possible
It is possible. But there is a but.
It is a standard feature of HTC sync.... To connect your device to your laptop and use its internet connection.
So....I guess someone have to extract that functionality and pack it into something that works on all devices...
I use it quite a lot.. And I have removed sense from my revolution rom with a script from desire forum.
Good luck
hey all!!
Even ill like to know abt it!

[Q] Wifi tethering

Hello,
I have been using Tom Codon XDA wifi sharing app for almost 2 years and all of the sudden it stopped working. I have hard reset the phone and reinstalled the application but no go. The connection is no longer being made to sprint. Wondering i
Any ideas on this would be great. Or even if I can able tether would be nice.
Thanks in advance.
Try Omarket's Mobile Wifi Router
No I dont know how to help with that. I use to use tom codon (and still can) but my Wii can not connect so I got a Cradle Point MBR1000. Im very happy with it. Now all my computers in the house truly are in a real wifi network with each other and can share files. and use the internet through the MBR1000. The mbr1000 gets the internet from my phone via usb. Its great. They make portable routers also. One of there portable routers can grab internet from any source, wifi, tethering usb phone as a modem (internet sharing) , cat 5, express modem card. And combine them for faster internet.

[Q] Computer internet connexion sharing via bluetooth with android device...

Hi,
I'm a happy owner of both a Nexus One and a Nook Color, both rooted and running CyanogenMod.
I got a full data access on my mobile so I can tether its connexion to either any laptop (using wifi or usb tethering) or the Nook Color (using wifi or bluetooth PAN). That's working quite fine even though this requires to get a good data signal strength covering the place you are.
Unfortunatelly, at work, I almost got no data access.
My laptop got full internet access via its LAN Ethernet adapter and has both wifi and bluetooth available.
My question is simple : How can I share my laptop's internet access with my android devices using bluetooth ?
PS : Even if I can only pair one of the two android devices with my laptop at a time, that still would rock !
Thanks !
Bump... I have the same question and exactly the same situation...!!
I have same problem here. My computer get full access internet via LAN, and just only have bluetooth connection (no wifi). How i can share it? symbian can share bluetooth internet connection with apps called GNUBOX. How about Android? Anyone can help??
I think that you can't use internet over bluetooth,
maybe you can try using internet over usb cable - it is supported in newer android updates

[Q] Sharing Connection from PC

Hi,
so my scenario is the following:
My PC is connected to the router via cable and has no WiFi connection. My router has wifi, but the connection is very bad in my room.
Is there a way to share the connection of my pc (running win 8 pro btw) via bluetooth (it's onboard) or USB?
Thanks!
edit: Just tested it with my HoX and there I have an option "Internet Pass-Through", which works fine via USB. But on my GNote 10.1 (wifi only) the option doesn't exist...
edit2: I guess I found out what the problem is: It's called reverse-tethering and the problem is, that all tethering options are not available in the systemsettings, because tethering is not available, because it's a wifi only model. On my HoX the option for internet pass-through are in the tethering section, though it's reverse tethering. Any ideas how to get there on the wifi only Note?
Use a second ethernet-slot on your pc, buy an usb-lan-device and connect it via otg and crossovercable.
Or use bluetooth, if your pc support that. (Maybe a cheap usb bt device for your pc?) To share internet on one android device to another via bt is no problem. So it should work te same with your pc. Dunno by windows settings or any third party software.
AW: [Q] Sharing Connection from PC
Allright, I have Bluetooth onboard but can't get it to work, I guess the problem is with windows here. The other idea is very good thanks, I'll try that.
Send from my HTC One X - Kernel 3.1.10 - Build 3.18.401.1
Before buying check for well known usb lan devices. Especially for samsung note, note 2 and up.
How far is the router from your room?

AW: [Q] Sharing Connection from PC
1 floor ~3 walls
The closer I get to the door the better it gets. At the door the router is basically directly beneath. On my couch which is near the door the reception is okay. But in my bed and near my PC (furthest away from door) the reception is very bad or no reception at all.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 10.1 with the awesome CM 10.1 HumberOS Rom!
edit: So, I finally found a working bluetooth driver for my onboard bluetooth and win 8 (it's a P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen 3 btw). The standard win 8 bt driver seemed to lack some features. Okay, now I am able to have a real pairing connection to the GN10.1. I enabled ICS in windows connection option and then tried to do a "connect to personal network" in windows. It fails with no notification at all on the Note. Then I downloaded Bluetooth PAN app from play store. Funny thing is: If I click connect in windows (in the "connect to personal network" window) and shortly after/before click connect in Bluetooth PAN the connection does not fail in windows (it shows as connected), but the Bluetooth PAN app doesn't show any established connection, very weird. I tried the app "BlueVPN", but also no luck. Oh btw I found the following:
Obtain a network connection via Bluetooth tethering
If you have a computer or other device that can share its network connection via Bluetooth, you can configure your phone to obtain a network connection by Bluetooth tethering (sometimes called reverse tethering).
1. Configure your computer to share it’s network connection via Bluetooth. See your computer’s documentation for details on how to do this. Typically, it involves making your computer discoverable via Bluetooth and allowing incoming PAN connections.
2. Pair and connect your phone to your computer via Bluetooth.
3. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
4. Check Bluetooth tethering.
Your phone connects to the Internet via Bluetooth and your computer, and a Bluetooth icon appears in the System bar.

So I had Bluetooth Tethering enabled all the time. It didn't make any difference, except I got a noticifation "Tethering active" when connected, but I didn't get a reverse tethering.
Next thing I did, I tried connecting to my HTC One X's bt hotspot, didn't work either.
My best guess is still that there are too many tethering options missing due to the fact that it's the wifi only version.
What I'll try next is this. I'll let you know if it works.
edit 2: Oh, I also tried reverse tethering with my HoX to the PC, also didn't work.
Didn't worked because of firewall on windows 8?
Try to establish tethering through ur mobile phone via bt to wifi or [insertnumberhere]G internet.
Maybe in both directions (mobile<->10.1) to see if that works... and to decrease potential ...errrm... fehlerquellen.
Any update on sharing the internet connection of the pc to the note 10.1. I am especially interested in doing it via the USB.
It seems you can update the Note 10.1 via the USB, so it must be possible to connect to the internet via it. I think.
I don't own a Note 10.1 yet, but I am really interested in getting one.
it is old but maybe for some people the first gibt. nowadays it is easier in Windows 6 and above. you'll make it.
