rom manager fails to install clockwork recovery - Epic 4G Android Development

so, I'm really confused on how to get clockwork recovery installed via rom manager.
I go to install it, I select "Samsung Epic", and it says its installed, I then reboot and it gives an error of failing to verify the signature. and I get the normal 4 line recovery mode and am able to reboot into my rooted stock everything epic 4g.
am I doing something wrong? a search didn't turn up anything about this via rom manager.
thanks.

Doing it through ROM Manager won't work, you need to do the "one click method" to get CW working.

ok, so wouldn't it be nice of the rom manager author to remove it from rom manager at this time?

You need to have a kernel that works with rom manager installed the stock kernel won't work.

so I was wrong to think that I'd use rom manager to install a non stock kernel after the fact? the non stock kernel actually has to be in place before?

Correct. ROM manager is not useful with the stock kernel.
You can, however, use clockworkmod independently of ROM manager by flashing it with the one-click root/CW.

[Q] My samsung infuse 4G, will not allow me to remove 3e recovery??

I have the samsung infuse 4g and I have tried the methods in these forums to replace the 3e recovery with the modified version that allows unsigned zips...but when i replace the reovery file in system/bin/ nothing happens it does not change the recovery at all and it will not accept unsigned...I also tried the odin flasher to put a infused kernal on it and it bricked my phone twice, but I used g2g's ultimate unbrick and it works excellent...what can I do???
PS: I am rooted and used root explorer to replace the recovery file!
EDIT: I did change the permissions, and when I try flashing clockwork mod recovery from rom manager it does not do it...also when im in the 3e recovery there is no option for re-install packages...there is restart phone where that is..help?

Did you change the permissions? Rename the original to something like "recovery.bak." You also need to install clockwordmod from the Rom Manager app(get it from the market) After that boot into recovery and select the "reinstall packages" twice, which should get you into green CWM.

i have some problem
use for copy file recobery "root browser" not "root explorer"
I you are rooted and on stock froyo, use SGS kernel flasher from the market. Use it to flash the community kernel v8. That will give you modified 3e recovery, and in my opinion its the easiest method.
PS. It will take about 10 mins to flash this first kernel because it has to change the partitions to ext4.
You can find detailed instructions in gtgs infused v2 rom.

not exactly,
it will give you cwm recovery voodoo lagfix edition and eliminate 3e recovery all together.
3e is stock recovery for froyo and gb on Samsung phones. what I must ask the op is what OS version and what carrier are you on?
edit: if that's a Rogers infuse as I see you are on Rogers then you may need to use a custom kernel to use cwm. take your pick of any gb kernel, they are all built on Rogers sources.

Option 1:
1.-Download Sgs Kernel installer
2.- Download a Kernel with modified cwm included ( here one choice: http://www.multiupload.com/1E3AWIQYAA <--If you are on Froyo;
http://www.multiupload.com/6ZVYU3F106<-- If you are on Gingerbread) The links ARE NOT mine are gtgx.
3.-Put the kernel in your sd card.
4.-Open sgs kernel flasher and select the kernel.
It will reboot and convert your data to ext4 and also give you modified red cmw ready to install custom roms. It will take about 5 minutes be patient.
Option 2:
1.- Download the Defuse 1.5 one click kernel from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381 (link NOT mine)
2.- Put your phone into download mode
3.- Run the file you downloaded it will do the work for you.
Find Odin preset with 3e and root. Follow directions and run odin properly with phone in download mode (explained in odin post). After that you will be rooted with modded 3e recovery. Then you can download rom manager when the phone reboots and flash for galaxy i9000, reboot into recovery and reinstall packages. You should be able to reinstall packages now since odin set up your recovery. It sounds like you aren't able to put the modded recovery in the system/bin folder; same thing happened to me. I had root, but could not modify the recovery file in system/bin. Odin is a charm, if I had the money I would donate to the guy who made it, unfortunately I don't at the moment. Odin says phone should show as com## yet mine showed as com0 and still worked. Probably depends on which USB port you use. Odin takes about 10 minutes to flash your phone but it will be worth it when you are done. I was skeptical because of the steps but it is very easy, once you get your phone into download mode its a breeze. PLEASE HAVE A FULL CHARGE WHEN YOU DO ANY FLASHING. If your phone dies you can have serious problems during the flash.
thank you all, I am going to try these once I get my internet restored.... this is kinda agony since my t1 line died....

[Q] HELP with ROM manager

I just now rooted my infuse 4g with superoneclick and I am trying to flash gtg's infused rom via ROM Manager. I am following all steps correctly and everything is working fine up until I go to flash clockwork mod recovery. It say's to select the galaxy s i9000 and I do, it appears to be downloading it then comes up with the error "There was an error while downloading your recovery." Am I doing something wrong? Is this a server error? I have flashed previously before and have not had this issue. I can assure you that I have followed every step in his guide to a T. The last thing I did was delete the /system/bin/recovery file. Just need to know whether it's a server error or is there something I am missing?
EDIT: I tried to do so over 3g rather than Wifi and it worked. I don't know why this would matter but it did. Flashing now
I have ROM Manager v4.8.0.6 if that is necessary to include...
Did you replace your stock recovery file prior to flashing clockwork in rom manager?
You have to replace it with modded recovery that doesnt require driver signature.
I believe its in system/bin/recovery (someone correct me if im wrong)

I did not. If you go to the infused rom thread and look at the steps for flashing via ROM Manager, that is what I did. I got to the part where it say's to open ROM Manager and select flash clockwork mod recovery>GalaxyS i9000. When I do so it say's there is an error while downloading my recovery.

[Q] used viper modon ic

After getting ics on my stock tf101 I used viper mod 4.5 option 1 and it workedfine.being a noob I tried to use Rom manager clicked on flash clockwork recovery it recognized my tf101 ..then it said not supported then it asked if it was manually installed using 2x or 3x.don't know what it means but tried both versions trying to reboot into recovery to flash a new ROM didn't work on either version.is there a way to flash?or do I have to unroot. Viper mod which kept ics stock but rooted.(from my understanding) or is there a new ROM manager for ics ? Am familiar with Rom manager flashing my bolt several times.or should I just do option 2 unroot and forget flashing.or downgrade to honeycomb and install Rom manager there?

w/o sounding like a 8===) look in the Apps section, there is a .apk that you can download and use to flash the recovery image. Clockwork ROM manager isn't really needed for this device, in fact i don't have the app installed on any of my rooted devices.

Actually last I heard Koush pulled the RM for the TF as too many peoples had problems. Like neidlinger stated, you don't need ROM manager. I got rid of mine even for phone long ago. Everything can be done in CWM recovery itself

Can no longer flash Recovery except via Rom Manager

Anyone else getting this issue? I used to be able to, but now I can no longer install custom recoveries.
I purchased the pro version of Rom Toolbox a while ago, and I'm tired of it not being compatible with my recovery (not allowing me to automatically flash roms, etc). Of course Rom Toolbox has an option to download and flash recoveries but it doesn't work any longer. Regardless of what I pick (rom toolbox allows for the download and installation of TWRP, CWR, CWR Touch, and CWR for Rom Toolbox) It always fails when flashing.
I also tried the app "Recovery Manager" which also failed to update my recovery to CWR Touch. It seems that only Rom Manager can update/change my recovery image, which seems very peculiar if you ask me...
Is there any fix to allow Rom Toolbox to flash my recovery successfully? I tried installing one via fastboot, but my computer couldn't detect my phone. (I probably just need to make sure the proper drivers are installed though) but would that really fix my Rom Toolbox issue?
It would be better to be asking the Rom Toolbox dev rather than the Nexus S community. Most people will flash their recovery using fastboot, because that's the always working way.
Disregard wrong thread

You could also use flash image gui... it's a paid app in the play store, but is also available here on xda by the dev

I was able to flash TWRP Recovery via Goo Manager, so now I know that it was an issue with Rom Toolbox and not my phone.
However Rom Toolbox tasks still aren't automatically done when I reboot :/ It looks like the modded CWR for Rom Toolbox isn't up and for whatever reason the newest version of Clockwork mod recovery isn't compatible with rom toolbox, even when rom manager is installed.
Well thanks. Hopefully Rom Manager and Rom Toolbox get things worked out.
