Now, you may have seen the other CM7 thread, and those who saw it know it was a cluster*MOD EDIT*. I'm just going to clear up some of the misinformation about the port.
1. I am currently running CM7 on my phone.
2. It is not a dual boot, unlike supercurio's NSONSGS work, it is an actual rom.
3. It is only being developed for the i9000, but with a few reorientations, it's usable as captivate rom.
4. There are no official releases for either phone, you must build from source. Instructions are on the CM forums.
Any other questions, I'm happy to answer. I just don't like when misinformation is wrongly spread.
Sorry about that. Heh heh. I apologize for that thread.
So couple questions.
1 If it's a full ROM did you have to convert NAND to EXT4 as well? My understanding was the WHOLE file system on NS was EXT4.
2 If you did have to convert it, have you tried going back to any other "regular" ROM's?
Thanks for the information/clarification. Honestly though, I think it's unfair to single out DG, he's helped alot of people here. If he is wrong he's wrong but no need to hate.

Thanks for starting a new thread, as you said, clusterf*ck. Out of curiosity, as I'm still syncing repo, did you reorient the kernel yourself or did it come with the repo?

misinformation? They are using supercurios kernel work to boot it. (i said KERNEL not initram, where the dual boot comes from)
If there is any further work being done by codeworkx and others, its in private., but I can tell you there is NO chatter in the dev channel, hasn't been in some time.
Can't we just get over everything and stop with the petty insults... This thread is going downhill already, lets try and keep it clean.

1. Nope, everything is mounted as yaffs2. When you flash the "initial" zip, it creates all the partitions.
2. You can, but you must either use "repartition" in Odin, or use the one click to stock.
And I know, I was just joking about. I can certainly edit that out if it offends him.

Do you wonder why SC stopped deving it and is never in the dev channel for HIS kernel anymore?

They may be using it, but they've done a ton of work on it. Are you looking at sc's repo, or coolya's? Cause coolya's is the one with CM7.
EDIT: DG, it's not a dual boot. They may be using his kernel as a base, but a lot of the work is from there.

Thanks again for the info. I may take a crack at this this weekend.
I've a question..
If the CM/SGSTeam's Source is Open Source.. Why the team will piss off if we compile from it source, and post it?

Because when stuff doesn't work, people ***** at them and they have to fix it, taking time away from deving. That, on top of the captivate not even being an officially supported device.

They probably will get mad. Honestly, even though its open, there are still moral issues. Its basically taking someones hard work and passing it off as your own, because you know that people will credit the one who built it and made it freely available.

The android repo really just points to all the other repos, so CM base stuff, their kernel stuff, etc.

Hey, man. Just thought you should know that out of curiosity, I took the firmware folder from the Epic 4G CM 6.2 rom and cooked it into my Epic SK4G rom.
No issues so far. I know it may be no big deal but I wanted to share that. Maybe bhundven can take a look at the kernel?
EDIT: It is no big deal.... it's just Froyo 2.2.1. Forget it. Goddammit.

I would have kept my mouth shut if he fixed the op. Either [PORT][WIP] CM6 for the sidekick 4G or even [PORT][PRE-ALPHA] CM6 for the sidekick 4G. BETA is reserved for working ROMs/PORTS. This was obviously an epic fail.
He's also stated before he does not know how to modify kernels. In order to port cm6 you will need some kernel hacking skillz.

He also said this form of porting was documented to work, which it didn't in this particular case. And if you've forgotten, he can't test it. His SK4G is with bhundven. So, he couldn't have known that it was pre-alpha material.

Exactly my point I was trying to make.
That all depends on what he had to go through those last 5+ months. Assuming everything was peachy, yes, a month is feasible. But say, you had court battles and other stuff to worry about, do you think you could throw something workable together in a month? Doubt it. And if you say you can, prove it. Otherwise, you're full of yourself. I'm not gonna try myself, because like I have said before, i've only done small stuff and I know my own limitations. But by all means, go ahead and ridicule someone who is making a conscious effort and not just sitting back and waiting for someone else to do the work.
Btw, Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas to the both of you, despite your overinflated egos.
What 5+ month are you talking about? Phone was sent to Bhundven at the beginning of october, so it's 3-, not 5+. And yes, life's more important than ROMs.

I've been slowly working on a JB Sense 4x project for fun. as I learn I go back and make changes here and there hoping that maybe, just maybe, one day it'll boot. As I was working on it yesterday I realized that with my Shift not working there will not be anyway for me to test it so I thought I would ask if anyone is interested in helping. It is a port from the One X. I haven't asked for permission from the original dev to release anything publicly yet (because I don't know if it'll work) so I'll have to pm links for now. Where I am at with this at the moment is the updater script. I've been through the rest of the ROM and think I have a good start but I haven't done anything in the META-INF folder. I am still reading up on how to write my own updater script but I'm not capable yet so those who want to help, this is my immediate need. It would be good for folks to go through the build.prop also. I'm still a little unsure about the changes necessary to go from a GSM ROM to CDMA.
Edit: I probably should have put this in General instead of Q&A. Sorry...

I was sort of hoping that somebody who knows how to do this stuff might try to build it as i cant even attempt to start for about a month as i am in the process of moving across the country. Figured if maybe people saw how many options there are in this rom it might spark some interest and get some more variety of roms to choose from (not that the roms available aren't already awesome )

I did notice, I just didn't think you'd appreciate someone else doing your job for you.
Lets keep on topic here ... if the mods want to move this, that's up to them.
And speaking of on topic, build is just about done. Had to restart it twice for a couple minor things that I messed up with the device specific inclusions. The vast majority of packages built just fine though, so it should be too much longer.
I also elected to build it with the Marla kernel, not the stock CM10.1 kernel.

yea, but they still dont allow these. the answer will be the same always, read the threads/ops, decided yourself what you want to try out, try out different roms/kernels, then decide for yourself. they have threads here, so you can read them, not so others can read them for you.

Okay yes, I apologise if this is not allowed in this thread. But im asking for a ROM that HAS Multiwindow function built into it. Yes, trying different ROMs and Kernels will eventually help me find the answer, but there are so many ROMS out there and I'm asking for a ROM that has this function in it. Instead of me searching around which will take me a while, I asked here to save me some time.

Then why the heck is there a Q&A section then?

Okay yes, I apologise if this is not allowed in this thread. But im asking for a ROM that HAS Multiwindow function built into it. Yes, trying different ROMs and Kernels will eventually help me find the answer, but there are so many ROMS out there and I'm asking for a ROM that has this function in it. Instead of me searching around which will take me a while, I asked here if any of them have this function.
Then why the heck is there a Q&A section then?

Flashing every ROM and seeing if it has Multiwindow would take a few days. If you don't know the answer, dont reply to this thread. simple.
Multiwindow is big deal. If a ROM has it, its listed in the OP.

q&a is for many things, but not for others to tell you what ROM to run, that's your job. read the q&a titles, no one else is asking what ROM they should run.

lol, days my butt. you'd be lucky to use a partial day flashing Roms with multiwindows, maybe just a few hours total.
Well you just download a bunch, stick them on sd/otg flash, boot, flash , boot. You don't need to reconfigure the OS every time just to see if it has multiwindow

@Andypandiiee I'd highly recommend looking at the OPs and see which has multiwindow. Part of being on XDA is reading and discovering for yourself. I don't think this is a best ROM/Kernel thread so I don't see any problem with it. But there are plenty of ROMs, and people do use a multitude of them.
Yes, as mentioned...ROM opening posts almost always list the features, or links to a site that does.
If you don't want to read the opening posts and look for multi window listed....perhaps flashing ROMs isn't for you? Reading and reading and reading some more is what XDA is all about. Especially the opening posts of ANYTHING you are thinking if flashing. ?
Edit: the amount of time this thread has gone on.....you could have found your ROM long ago by reading the different rom features.
It seems apparent no one is going to go look for you.
We got an RC party going on here? I had to hand in my RC badge a while back but I hope you guys still like me!
As stated ROM and kernel choice are influenced by a huge amount of variables, that's something you'll have to find out yourself by trying a bunch and seeing what works for you. "What ROM should I use?" is just a thinly veiled way of asking what's the best ROM, so it's against the rules.
