Stock vs Launcher Pro - myTouch 4G General

what home screens are you guys using?
i just installed launcher pro plus but i noticed that all the widgets cannot be used with it....
what are you guys using?

I'm probably going to stick with stock. I'll make it look nice and neat using Beautiful Widgets or w/e it's called.

I think the Sense widgets are just much nicer (I use the Weather/Clock, Photo Album, Friendstream, Bookmarks, and News), and much more polished than the LauncherPro Plus widgets. Also, the text in the launcher pro widgets are very small and difficult to read for me. The only widget in LauncherPro Plus I like better is the messaging scrolling one. I wish the Sense one had the contact pictures.

Oh, that's VERY easy to create a metamorph for. Just substitute a transparent PNG for that icon.

I actually like them, it's always bugged me that the app icons are not symmetrical. I'm sure I'm in the minority on that but I like that about the MyTouch (BTW, I don't actually have a MyTouch, just running the ROM on a Nexus One in the past, just recently switched back to Desire port, needed a working camera, may actually get the MyTouch soon)

Anyone using launcher pro?
Sent from my HTC Glacier

I am using launcher pro. I actually just bought the paid version for the extra widgets. I like it a lot. The only thing I wish it had would be the Vibrant style app drawer.
I had to get away from having the stock myFavs on the dock. Other wise the stock is ok. The stock widgets are nice but now I have widgets with paying only $3 for launcher pro.

Also the free Sense Analog Small Clock widget from the Android market makes it look just the way I want.

I hear you bro. The faves on the dock is killing me lol. I'm debating if I should use launcher pro or not
Sent from my HTC Glacier

I wouldn't use launcher pro personally because mysense was one of the thing I really liked about this phone that got me to choose other over the g2 and th vibrant. It looks really nice, has cool features, and is very customizable. Plus I feel like launchers slow down phones. That is why I stopped using them on my droid I had before this
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

On my G1 the launcher slowed my phone down but I an not sure anything will really slow my MTG4.
I just had to get a better dock. I couldn't stand so much wasted space on my home. Lol
To each his own.

Using LauncherPro Plus, I tried them all and this one is the best.

Hey, what are those text icons? Looks pretty good if I say so myself Are those LP only or just a generic icon pack?

Search tallmin by lekky on the forum. Launcher pro plus when you add a application to a home screen, you can change the icons. So many things you can do.

Thanks! I found it. I just remembered I can do it in ADW as well, just never felt like I needed to until I saw these.
Once more, thank you!

I like the Sense UI too but have the feeling that it is slower than launcher pro and drains faster my battery. If I open an application with launcher pro it opens immediately. If I use the Sense UI there is a short delay before the application screen is visible, mostly it is a white background with nothing on it.

Sense is sluggish to me also, not as bad as the evo, but still.

Launcher Pro vs Sense?

What has been your experience with these? How does one compare to the other in terms of memory usage, battery life, and user experience? Which do you prefer and why?

Launcher Pro wins....just no sense widgets while using
Launcher Pro used less memory by about 0.5MB, I get a little bit better battery out of it with heavy usage (extra hour), the homescreen and app drawer will turn and adjust in landscape, also you can set programs up like the action buttons from froyo since it is included with the launcher. Just remember though the sense widgets will not work while using the launcher so you will have to download third party ones such as beautiful widget if you really still want the weather/clock widget. If know were to look you can find older versions for free so your not paying for something you already have stock with sense. Also follow the link threads and get the 4G widget from rdude (remember to donate since it is useful) so you can still have this toggle on your homescreen like you would be able to in sense.
I switched to Launcher Pro and am not looking back. Battery life is way better but i suspect its because i am not loading any of those heavy Sense widgets like email, friendstream, etc.
Try Fancy Widget instead of Beautiful Widgets. Fancy widget is free and looks *just* like the sense digital clock.
Beside battery life, Launcher Pro is more customizable especially with latest updates (scrolling dock bar, moveable App Drawer button, etc)

I've been using LauncherPro almost since the first version was released, when I was using a Sprint Hero. It just keeps getting better and better with every upgrade. I haven't looked at the Sense UI on my phone in at least a week. And that was just because I was comparing the flip clock/weather widget from Fancy Widgets with the HTC flip clock/weather widget, to see the differences. They are almost identical, pixel for pixel.
Also, to get more of a sense ui feel out of the launcher, you can set up 7 home screens, and download smooth calendar from the market. It looks very similar to the 1 x 4 calendar widget from HTC.
One of my favorite features of the launcherpro is the 3d app drawer. Also, the row of icons at the bottom, that you can configure however you want.
And it's nice with the huge screen, to have 5 rows of icons on the home pages. I turned off auto-orientation, as 5 rows of icons looks like crap in landscape.

Does anybody have issues with the wallpaper not changing after changing it inside of Launcher Pro? I have to go into Sense UI change it there, then go back into Launcher Pro and change it there. For some reason it wants to default to the HTC default wallpaper. The one with the out of focus different colored circles. Has anybody had this issue? If so how did you fix it?
I prefer ADW.Launcher. More customizable than Launcher Pro. You can set the screens as up to 8x8, choose widget sizes, etc.
BTW is there a link to that 'warp speed' star wallpaper?

For those of you running custom ROMs, do you "ban" Sense while using LP or just set it as default?

Sense launcher

Anyone figure out a way to change the faves button on the right side of the launcher to something else? Contacts perhaps?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Sadly, no. But if you want that, I do have a suggestion. Make everyone in your contact list a fave. Then in the faves gallery, change the layout to list view and boom, you have a slightly less functional contacts app tied to that button!
If you haven't tried it, go into the faves gallery, click menu and "change view". You can make it a lot better than that weird flying tiles view it defaults to.
I think I read somewhere that you can only add up to 20 contacts in Faves.
You can download Launcher Pro, and change it to 5 customizable buttons on the bottom.
Yes im aware of the custom launchers, but thats not what I was trying to accomplish. I am happy with the sense launcher other than that 1 button.

Sure!
For one you need LauncherPro Plus, or ADW.
The live wallpaper is already in your phone, so switch to that.
Clock is done by Fancy Widget. Do a google search for the apk file. I used v1.30
You'll need a transparent icon. Follow this link, and do what the last comment says to get the icon. http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4389
Below I've added the dock for you. Now get everything into your phone, and put them all together. It's really not that hard.
Oh, and I think you need LauncherPro "Plus" to make changes to the icons, but not 100% sure?
Enjoy, and good luck!

Install the FREE launcher pro app and you can put anything you want there along with customizing almost everything on your phone! Did I mention its FREE?!?!?!

Best launcher for galaxy tab running gingerbread

I am looking for best launcher for tab. I installed 3 of them launcher pro, launcher 7 and golauncher.
Launcher pro is good, but need to pay for its widgets. No crashes till now.
Launcher 7 is good but very less home screen options. No crashing but sometime slow to start home screen.
I am highly upset with golauncher, i make my home screen staying whole night, adding widgets shortcuts but when i woke up in morning one of three home screen was lost with all content! !!
I made it again and later find out two two home screen collaspe and became ONE! overlapping apps.
Golauncher has more option than launcher pro, widgets are free to but it crashes everytime, is there any way to fix it ?
Or any other best launcher?

i can only agree with ganj...
i use it for quite a time now and no probs with ...fast and smooth
I use launcher pro, only because of the sexy theme-able widgets
I've run LauncherPro since it was in Alpha, and I can testify to it's performance, both on my Tab and my OG Droid. I love the ability to skin the widgets, and even though it's been a looooong time coming, Fede is rewriting the entire launcher code in order to enhance performance. ADW EX does have benefits though, especially with things like being able to move the app drawer out of the dock, and onto the homescreen. Being able to remove the dock is cool as well. The major issue I had with EX, was with widget resizing and overlapping... I could just never get it to work as well as LP. Either way though, you can't go wrong. They're both great launchers.
ADW Launcher for free is smooth and quite customizable. The EX version is hands down the best, and it's cheap.
And there's VTL.Launcher too
I use Go Launcher Ex and no problem with, for me it's the best, free, many theme for free and you know that widget free also....

Yup. Adw ex is my fall back launcher. Its the one I end up running on most kernel and rom combos. Open home, based on Adw too I believe, is fantastic too. Great customization and a solid feel bit its a limitless over priced, its confusing about the whole 5/6 thing and it seems wrong to have a commercial launcher called "open" is a bit cynical. It might be just my setup but I also had battery issues from it.
My latest favourite is actually GO launcher with weather and task manager widget and am running go SMS too. Just realised I never even installed Adw when I last flashed.. hmm well there you go. Been a good solid few days with no issues at all and thinking about it I've had no lag, good battery and yeah forgot I was even running it if that makes sense. Free is free too afterall and the only real complaint is the limited premium themes but there are loads of free ones, some quite nice too.

Go Launcher EX. So far it shows the best perf and usability combination for me on both froyo and gb.
BTW, I am willing to switch to TW4 if I can see a good perf (not yet, at least with Overcome GB Gold).
@gandroid and all who thinks ADWlauncher is good, i am preety pissed of with it. I bought without trying its free version now they will not make refunds.
I even cant figure out how to add awd widgets , it just takes me to market where there is option to buy only. Is there any free widgets and themes that comes with it or we have to buy everything. I dont want to pay more for launcher only.
I bought launcher pro also, which has itself free widgets. Its worth of 3 somthing dollar.
Somebody please tell me either i dont know how to use adw or it doesnt have any widgets.

I use VTL.Launcher, its a fork of ADW designed for Tablets. Brilliant launcher imo, a LOT of customisability and options, and not exactly expensive either.
I prefer the Go Launcher, too. It can has an unlimited number of screens and is VERY customizable, even the shortcuts/icons on the desktop. Before, i used launcherpro. But Go Launcher is free and even more customizable.
Go and ADW
Originally I was a fan of LP but since my discovery of ADW Ex I have been using the latter. Excellent launcher in every respect. Go Ex is also extremely good. My comments would be : Go Ex seems to me the best as far as the usability and inteface is concerned (if it works properly), it probably has the best themes as well. Another great point is the ease with which we can put multiple icons on the screen. BUT, I am having a few problems with it. Everytime I reboot the widgets disappear and I have to put them back again which is a pain. That is happeneing with ADW as well, perhaps its my ROM or kernel. It also seemed to be obviously slower than the ADW. So now I am using Go Ex with my tab and ADW on the Galaxy s phone. So ADW is definitely faster.
I used Go Launcher EX. Because its free.

Favorite clock/weather widget?

So one of the only things I find myself salivating at on my wife's HTC Incredible 2 is the Sense weather/clock widget. Thing looks badass. I've found some of the ripoffs on the appstore, and have installed Beautiful Widgets, which has some pretty cool clocks, but a lot of them look like janky crap.

Fancy Widget Pro is great. I prefer it over Beautiful Widgets and Weather Toggle & Widgets.

I guess the new version is called just Fancy Widgets
Weather and Toggle Widgets. I use the Digital Clock skin:
Thanks for the suggestions The couple of clocks I've downloaded for Fancy Widgets(I only had free before, but just bought full version) are already way better quality than the ones on Beautiful Widgets. Will try to post a screen shortly

Second to that, plus they had it as an Amazon Free App of the day once. Woohoo!
Beautiful Widgets all the way. I've been using the destroy skin with a transparent background. Around 50% that way I can see my screen background.
DroidX Eye Clock widget
At some point in the last nine months I had a DroidX Clock widget on my OG Droid. I really was just a clock widget that used the DroidX Eye as a background, and offered a choice for the eye color (red, blue, green, yellowish). It was lost at some point in one of the many times I flashed different roms to that phone. I have looked a few times in the last couple of months, but have been unable to find it.
If anybody has seen that widget, or has it, I'd love to get it installed on my Droid Charge.
(BTW: Verizon tunred on 4G in my area today, and it is crazy fast... loving it).
Actually. Use go launcher and then get.goweather. your wife will be salivating looking at your phone. They.have an htc style clock that is better than htcs. And the coolness.of go launcher is a "see it to appreciate it" thing. Set your app drawer to have the blind effect. Its awesome lol.

I didn't pay for it, so I must have found the apk via Google. I remember searching for quite a while because HTC had been putting the smack down on any developers who used the flip clock style.
Currently it is on the market (website only, it didn't show up when I searched using the market app on my Charge) for $2.00. Since I'm a "noob" I can't post the direct link. Search for GSFlipClockWallpaper by Sergey Golovanov

What's the best Launcher?

So I've never used a launcher before this day. I always knew they had cool features but just didn't feel like learning a whole new launcher. In your opinion which one is the best? I will try any launcher paid or free. If it's free great but if it's worth the money I'll surely support the developer.

I guess, I put the Sense theme on(latest one) and it was bugged like ****, the menu buttons were covering the Sense buttons so I couldn't use them and it didn't even have the carousel effect, it just moved between pages normally. I don't know if I did something wrong(I even tried rebooting, still nothing), I just ran the Launcher and applied the Sense theme from within it. So from my experience this Launcher already sucks which brings us back to the main point of this topic; what is the best launcher(your personal favorite)?
I prefer ADW launcher. Small memory footprint, fast, does everything I need it to.

Does it have a good Sense theme? I'd really like to run Sense3.0 on the Charge
I really liked whatever launcher was included in GC 1.9.1.

I have been using Zeam launcher for about a month now because it is fast and no frills with an extremely small memory footprint at 8.3MB on the settings I am using (most likely not what you are looking for). I have also used GO launcher, Launcher Pro, and ADW. All of them seem to work well and are less laggy than the stock Touch Wiz launcher.

Not sure about Sense 3.0 (as I am not familiar with Sense), but I am pretty sure HeLauncher is supposed to be a Sense clone in appearance.
Go Launcher
I prefeer launcher 2... Aosp all the way

I like the stock AOSP launcher but hate that you can't tweak it or remove screens.. so ADW is a suitable replacement and they have AOSP themes in every color you could want

Having used stock, Launcher 2, and now Go Launcher, I can say without a doubt that Go Launcher is the best of those three.
A lot of people really like ADW. Is it free?
Go Launcher is and is extremely configurable. Check out all the preferences you can customize, then check out the themes. (Some paid themes and a bunch of free ones...just have to search for them.)
I LOVE the transparent theme combined with the transparent dock theme. You can apply themes to the GO Widgets also, which makes them look pretty nice.
I've been using Go Launcher for about 2 weeks now and have really enjoyed it.
I've tried them all on multiple ROMs & IMHO LPP+ is the clear cut winner, it's all I use now.

IMHO LPP+ ummm whats that?
I've been happily using Launcher Pro since I retired the stock launcher. Tried using Go Launcher EX (again) the last couple days, still don't find it better than LP, YMMV.

Launcher Pro Plus.

I've used AOSP, LauncherPro, ADW, 7Launcher, Windows 7 Launcher thingy, Go Launcher, Zeam, and more.
Go Launcher is by far my favorite. It has all of the bells and whistles I need. Well, mostly all of them. I never have home screen redraws with Go Launcher, either.

Not true, I didnt see clear in there.
I've used all the popular launchers. My favorite is MIUI, but that requires MIUI Rom, which we don't have. My current launcher of choice is GO Launcher. It used to kind of suck, but they make improvements all the time and there are many really nice free themes for it. Right now I'm using Windows 7 theme.
Go Launcher fan here.
