[Q] Blackberry 9800 Torch or Dell Streak? - General Topics

Which one should I buy? I've never used Android before and only used Blackberry years ago on the Pearl Flip. The useless sale guy at Optus Shop say he likes them both and cannot recommend one over another.
I want at-least a day's worth of battery life. I recharge my phone nightly so I'm not really that picky if it lasts longer then from like 9 am to 9 pm.
What I do on ma phone?
600-1000 texts a week
Always signed into MSN, constantly chatting sometimes
Always checking Facebook or sending messages over Facebook
Retrieving about 10 emails a month. No replies
Maybe a music track download every week
Always playing music. I like my music LOUD
Some web-surfing such as reading reviews on new gadgets
Lots of Google Maps when out and about
Picture viewing such as from files sent over MSN
Tethering phone to laptop sometimes
So Torch or Streak and why? Dunno but the Streak is so big, wouldn't I kinda look like a tool walking around in the mall holding it while checking a text? Also does Android have a official looking MSN Client?
I just don't know which one to get. Both sound amazing.

i would go for the torch based on your demands.
And based on the fact that i played with this device

Blackberry Torch Users, Get The Free Swagg App And Make Your Gift Cards Mobile!
Have you heard about the SWAGG APP? Swagg is a mobile app for your Blackberry Torch that makes gift giving and gift card managing easier than ever. The app allows users to buy and send gift cards to anyone. If you get a gift card purchased on Swagg that you don’t really care for, you can even swap it for one of Swagg’s other participating merchants including; American Apparel, Crocs, ArdenB, Wet Seal, American Eagle, Live Nation, 1800flowers.com, Omaha Steaks & Steve Madden. Then, you use your gift card on your phone, just like a credit card – the clerk just scans the bar code they send you!
Once you’ve downloaded Swagg to your phone, you will automatically receive exclusive offers from Swagg retail partners and other local businesses for discounts towards your next purchase. You can also scan and store your existing plastic gift cards for better, clutterless management and the Swagg App will keep track of your balances at the same time.
Not only is the app free, for every download and activation, Swagg will donate $1.00 to Stand Up 2 Cancerbetween now and 12/31/11 or up to $125,000, whichever comes first.
You can download the App at AppWorld!

Streak. The Torch is a mediocre device at best, poor quality build, and generally poor as a device period. The Streak is large because is a pad/phone in one. I was going to get the Streak until I decided on my captivate. My fiancee works for AT&T and she generally has nothing good to say about the Torch, or blackberrys in general, they're either hit or miss, and the Torch was a miss.
**I am not an all knowing guru. Flame if you must but this was an opinion thread and I gave one.

hai....
if you look at the needs of your reply post, I am more inclined to choose Dell Streak ... one advantage of Dell streak is a larger screen than Torch .. more than that to your desired needs can be found on both the handset .. with a larger screen ... lets you browse and mail management will be better ... more than that all your needs can be met both of them ...
My experience managing email (gmail, yahoo and Corporate mail address) in the dell streak can I do as his only previous Odin. Another case when using google maps, my Dell Streak is the best and more details ....
in 4shared.com I tried to download some mp3 files, and I was satisfied with the audio quality dell streak .. but all returned from the source audio file ...
overalls .. I really like this streak dell ... more have fun and do more ...
bye bye blackberry ...

I would never touch another BlackBerry. Not only is the hardware ancient, but the software is just crap. The app selection is pitiful, the interface is outdated, and customization of a BB is a major pain in the ass. Not to mention that RIM is just horrible at pushing out new OS updates. I'd rather have a crappy Android device over the best BlackBerry ANY day.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk

BlackBerry is going out of style and they can't keep up with the competition. Go with the Streak. You won't be sorry.
Sent from my XDA app on my Nook Color

If you only are choosing between the Streak and Torch, I would go with the Streak. Android is better hands down. I have had two Blackberries in my life for personal and corporate and will never go back. I have a question for you now. If you don't like the big screen on the Streak, which I don't blame you, would you consider a different Android device? There are devices that have a smaller screen yet out perform the Streak with ease.
Sent from my shoe, I mean....Epic shoe... I mean Samsung Epic! http://mobilehighway.blogspot.com/

The Torch is nothing but the Rim and more popular version of the Palm Pre anyways.
Just to clarify with some people because I know some people will say this, I know Palm and Rim have no relations. It is a joke because Palm came out with the Pre around the time the Iphone came out, which was about 2-3 years ago, and RIM released the Torch that is about the same specs as the Pre.

Why IPhone will beat them all.

After looking at the presentation of IPhone 3G v3.0 and already have read the articles about the WM v6.5 and v7.0, a huge disappointment came over me.
You see I am a top shouter in my environment for the HTC phones which are all equipped with the WM OS's.
The greatest impression on me where some articles about guys(who seemed in my eyes a real priority on this, i am dutch so not quickly impressed by anything), who wrote all similar story's about the WM v6.5/7.0. Stating Microsoft is not at all doing anything to compete with the Google and APPLE OS's. There are just very few improvements and absolutely not at all impressive enough as the IPhone OS.
Reading some article they are looking for a lead developer for the new core for WM v7.0 are not honored and contradicting, like saying oke guys i know the current OS is ****ty so we need to start over, can anyone help us?
That is not the sort of message I as WM lover like to hear.
It seems that Apple is just about the only one who is really listening to the users and they are working their ass off getting all requested functionality integrated. APPLE have done more on the OS in 1 year then Microsoft did on all development of the WM versions.
I am working at an IT company where the IPhone is making a serious entry and I am working at support and people asking me for information getting the IPhone working with the company applications. and guess what, it is sooooooo much easier getting it setup then every other WM-device i have seen. And they seem to shrink in number at the company.
Now I am really in love with the HTC-devices, but i am slowly getting confused by the latest IPHONE OS.
I expect that Microsoft will loose this battle due to their arrogance and dragging all major mobile company's down with it. So expect another crisis in a year or 3 because now the smart phones are booming but people will come to their senses and they switch to IPhone after their subscriber to the providers has ended.
So please bring me to my senses and say I am totally wrong!!
yes and no
the problem is migrators. people whove had there nokias and stuff then want a better device. theyll run to iphone dueto the flashy marketing and support
bu winmo is more like an old pair of sneakers. sure theyre ugly aan dirty
but they do the job they were built to do. in my opinion as long as they do there job making it work i can do my job making it look pretty. coz id rather get ther in my old confy sneakers to get there than getting blisters from a new pair
i dont think any die hard winmo fan will move not really because at the end of the day we always go back to those old trainers
ive got a headache now
stop making me use my brain
i went from iphone to iphone 3g to windows mobile
i prefer my diamond to be honest even thou iphone can do alot more in ways the diamond does more in other ways
hands down id rather go with diamond or pro
@jayjay8585
Thanks for your response.
I hope you are familiar with ice skating?
They where skating years and years on the normal skates and the fastest times stayed longer and longer on the list.
Then someone decided to change the skate(klikskate, the iron comes half lose when lifting the skate) so significantly everybody said out loud that will not work, so they tried it a bit but went back to their old skates(sneakers).
Until someone who always was just under the top 10 decided, oke I reeeeeeealy going to try this and trained for 2 years on it.
So the next major tournament this person broke all long standing records.
Now everybody is using the new ice skates and up until now, records keep broken almost every new major tournament.
Shortly: I half agree with the sneaker story but it will not hold on the long term.
Microsoft just messed up to big, so if Bill wants to see another billion or 2 added on the Forbes list he has to get serious on this.
Windows Mobile 7 is not even beta yet so how can you be making comparisons with that OS? And while apple has added features to bring it on par with modern smartphones I personally am too used to the freedom of using a device of my own choosing with whatever carrier I choose and not being tied to using apple software and hardware products.
Here is what I have to say about the iPhone. The iPhone............
iPhone = Flashy Fashiontoy laden with DRM Crap no one here wants. Period.

Quoted for the Mo-Fo'm truth!
How about the g1? It listens to its users the users and devs nake this phone better everydaay. I have had my for just over a week and don't know how I livd without it. I love how it works It can do all the iphone can and more. My main thing is it needs flash player other than that. also anyone seen or have any ideas on the new plam?
I personally wouldn't touch the G1 even if my life depended on it... Someone has to remove all the frickin' Google Crap from the OS (mandatory googlemail acc, anyone ?) before I'd be willing to shell out a few hundred bucks for one of these.
I'm not willing to let Google put a leash up my ass...
To the above guy. Besides making a mail account that's ur only leash. That beats being to to steve and bill in my opion. U can change the browser and well just about every u can get a lot of apps on line. U don't have to use the market that came on the phone everything is open.
the G1 I tested required a Googlemail Account.
Granted, I already have one and only Spam gets redirected there, but I don't want Google to know who i have as Contacts on my Sim and my Appointments no one has to read either.
Google on G1 = No Phone for me
Well whre are getting that they do that? And if they do why dosent everyone else? I figuer all cell phone data is almost public anyways
just wanted to add my 2 pence worth.
I've only had 2 WM devices so far, the XDA Exec and now the Touch Dual.
As much as I've enjoyed playing with these, I'm starting to really like the look of the iPhone. Everyone I speak to that has one say they love it because it does what is says on the lid. It works.
I'm fed up with having to reset my phone when it crashes on an incoming call, or re-syncing it to my BT car Hands free set...............
I've had to work hard and rely on the good devs here (thanks folks)to be able to get to a point where my phone is just about stable.
The iPhone is starting to look like a possability when my contract is up in six months
WM 6.5 will make it better as well as ROM Cookers. I have the Iphone 3G - in the box. Yes its flashy and its more fluid I like the control I have over my Touch HD. I like being able to flash it and try it out. I like the fact that I can change the BATTERY out on it. I like the ability to sync with Outlook, I like the fact that there are many many apps for the WM 6.1 and 6.5(when it becomes available).
And I like my screen resolution and Garmin XT NAV
Oh yeah.. Did I mention that I hate ITUNES and DRM?

you do realize that you can turn off syncing, which means that you wont send any data to the google acct. so none of your contacts/appointments will leave your phone, and gmail wont sync. if you root your G1 you dont even have to use a google acct.
This is an article from BRIGHTHAND:
Cut, Copy, and Paste
Confirming the earlier rumors, iPhone 3.0 will -- finally -- allow iPhone users to cut-and-paste and copy-and-paste. Naturally, the process for selecting text will take advantage of this device's multi-touch screen. This feature will be available in Apple's own software and third-party apps.
And it extends to more than just text. Users will be able to copy images and paste them into an email.
MMS, A2DP, Etc.
iPhone 3.0 will also mark the arrival of other features long available in the iPhone's competitors, including MMS messaging, Stereo Bluetooth, device search, and voice memos.
In addition, landscape support is being added to more of the bundled applications.
Apple is also going to release a new SDK (software developer kit) for handling streaming audio and video, including HDTV streaming.
Still No Multitasking
Apple had some good news and bad news for users. The bad news is that it's still not allowing multitasking because running third-party applications in the background is more than the device can handle. Scott Forstall, Apple SVP iPhone Software, who handled much of today's presentation, said that an IM application running in the background reduced the iPhone's standby battery time by 80%.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think the iPhone is able to beat anybody yet, as you can see, the above upgrade or fix to the coming iPhone 3 are qualities that should have been there since it's first release. They are still playing catch-up to Windows Mobile.
The only thing I like about the iPhone is the speed. Other than that, nothing else. With more powerful processor coming out, this will definitely be a brighter future for WM.

Sorry to see you are having trouble, but for me, my setup is very stable. No crashes nor freezes, so I am happy with Windows Mobile. BT works flawlessly too. I believe stability is related to what applications you have installed. I have about 350 applications and games installed, you just need to try them one by one and see which one causes the problem. This is the proceedure I do each time I upgrade my device. By the way, I have an HTC Advantage X7510. I just use my HTC Universal as the test subject nowadays.
I'd like to thank those brave enough to say that the iPhone does in fact pose a huge problem to WM, and those brave enough to say that they're willing to move away. Another thing I'd like to say is that being tied to a carrier/network that you don't like is not actually an argument against the iPhone, rather the circumstances surrounding it. Let's keep this thread based around an SIM-unlocked iPhone for a change. Also, let's just look at the OS, and not the extras HTC/Samsung/SE has overlayed on top.
Now, let's face it, WM is losing appeal- fast. WM is dynamic and flexible- almost like an open-source OS, but the UI is outdated and still bears an uncanny resemblance to it's oldest predecessor almost 10 whole years ago. Also, it can get laggy, and crashes even on stock ROMs, so there's another bunch of disadvantages.
Not much left. Let's hope WM7 saves MS.
I agree 100% with cktlcmd.
Thanks for putting it exactly how I would,
so I don't have to think.
This is what I'm feeling so far.......... (my two cents)
I love my wimo (6700, 8525, tilt and now touch Pro) and at first I use to tell people that only way that iPhone is making a killing is because how they advertised the phone.
People with iPhones use to be like your phone looks and feels like a brick. I will tell them how the wimo can do all types of things, so they started coming back to me and showing how once they jail break the phone they can do about all most the same thing. I would laugh and say well you still can't get mms, teathering, or cut/paste......3.0 is coming out for the iPhone, now I feel like hiding from the ones I laughed at.
If Microsoft is reading......please help us out, because the reason I love the phones is because they can do wonders but now I'm starting to feel like an old school guy with and old phone not willing to give up.............We (I hope I can speak for all the wimo people) spend at alot of time and money on these phone and just want a little something back, beside a new phone......think about the inside the phone and help us out so we can stay and be the top dogs again.

Droid does

Don't know if anyone caught this, but Verizon has launched an anti-iphone/anti-AT&T campaign, for the upcoming motorola droid. One of the commercials lists some of the things that the iphone doesn't do, but that their phone will do. Couldn't help but notice that a lot of these things the HTC dream already does. And a lot of other HTC winmo phones do. Plus I gotta say the anti-iphone angle made me smile.
Here's the ad: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/17/verizons-anti-iphone-gets-its-first-commercial-droid-does/
Saw it today
I just saw that commercial too. Now I'm in a dilemma as to whether to wait for the Droid and see how it is, or go ahead and upgrade my Touch Pro to the Pro 2...
LMFAO That was great!
Excellent!!
I don't want this to turn into a commercial for the iphone but....
After being a loyal Verizon customer and windows mobile user for about 7 years, I finally got fed up with verizon and windows mobile cr*p..
Verizon
1) Charging about $20/month more than anyone else
2) Constantly nickle and dimeing me about this fee and that
3) Locking my gps and me in their walled garden
4) Waiting in huge lines just to talk to one of their techs
I now own an iphone 3g on tmobile (jailbroken and unlocked). I pay ..get this $30 less a month for comparable minutes, unlimited internet.
Windows Mobile:
One could trick out the windows mobile devices by using great programs like Wisbar Advanced Desktop (WAD), etc...but in the end, the windows mobile device was a hodge podge of desparate looking interfaces, installing this and that to make things work.
On the iphone everything works and it is slick - no fussing.
The browser is AWESOME. It seems Google and Yahoo worked with Apple to get their apps working great on the iphone.
It is about twice as fast in response time compared to the omnia running WAD.
I can finally get ALL my email in one place (two yahoo accounts, gmail, verizon) using IMAP on the iphone. It was simple to set up!!
The iphone is also relatively easy to repair/take apart. I replaced the screen..2 screws, 3 connectors, and a little prying.
We'll see what Verizon does with the Droid phone. They'll probably lock the GPS and charge $100/month for it. At this point, I think the Apple/Google boat has left the port with Microsoft still on the dock. Where in the world is windows mobile 7?
Sorry for the Rant

Well, Welcom over to T-mobile...the best bang for your buck. $56 dollars for unlimited data, 300min with free my faves, and 1500 messages! Seems to me that most your problems were with Verizon and not WinMo. All I have to say is you'll be back. I know all too many a people who switches to the iphone only to be dissapointed and come back. They were as excited as you are.
I can get all my email on my TD2 with easy setup on a Mobile Web Data Plan... No full web for me... and yet Opera still works fully and great..... And yes the iphone is simple to repair. I've fixed 3 for my freinds. But it is no easier to me than repairing and of my other phones. I plan on changing out my TD2 housing soon since it's all beat up. 4 screws and a couple connectors. Very easy.
Atleast your on T-Mobile where I can safely compare edge to Sprint and AT&Ts 3G at moments. Thats Denver for you.
But back on topic..... Android will be the top OS in the next few years. Not specifically this Moto Droid but the OS because it woks. and unlike the iphone is available in a variety of flavors and people can individualize themselves.... oh and the software too. I know I got tired of my Ipod touch in a week. Bought it off ebay with a broken touch screen. Fixed and jailbroke it and gave it to my sister.
I thought this was an Android ad when I first saw it until I went to the website. Funny it doesn't show the phone and bears no mention of Verizon. There's nothing anti-AT&T about it though. It's about time someone attacked the iPhone on its many Achilles heels. The only one before was the Pre on multitasking.

The iphone is on AT&T so it's a stab at them also. What about the "there's a map for that" commercial Verizon has out? That one still takes the cake.

Which Smartphone? Your opinions please

Hi Folks,
I'm looking at getting a smartphone and would like your thoughts?
I've currently got a BB Bold 9000 and am getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of apps and the price of them as well! Not only that but a few apps slows the bloody thing right down!
I did have my eye on the HTC Touch Pro 2 but am not too sure now?
Now i'm thinking which OS should I go for, which phone etc.
I will be using the phone mainly for work but do like my gadgets! I like the email functionality of the bold and the qwerty keypad but the screen is too small now, the calender really irritates me because when someone wants to book an appointment and i'm out and about it's difficult to quickly see what appts I've got for the week.
Also the speed of the internet on the bold is rubbish!
I have friends with iphones and am jealous because they've got loads of business apps and cool apps, whereas my apps are pants!
I need a unlocked 3g phone to use here in the uk so any suggestions would be welcomed, also not looking to spend megabucks on a handset.
Windows Mobile is by far the best OS if you use your phone primarily for work. So I'd get the Htc HD2 if I were you. Don't get the Touch Pro 2 now as it'll probably soon be replaced by a similar device to the HD2. If a physical keyboard is a must, then go for the nokia n900.
The HD2 isn't out yet is it?
When it does come out won't it cost a small fortune to get?

If you are comparing things to the iPhone, more than likely you'll be dissappointed at the app selection for Winmo as well. There may be a lot of them, but were for the most part designed years ago, are not finger firendly, and cost a lot more than iPhone applications ($9-25USD vs. $1-$5USD for iphone).
That being said, it sounds like you are a busy man, and managing your life is important. Winmo paired with SPB Mobile Shell 3/3.5 puts a simply phenemenal quick scrolling calender on your homescreeen, (this is among the many things it does for you). As for out of the box, the WM 6.5 lock screen also shows you your next upcoming appointment. If you are sycning with MS Exchange, you get built in access to your companies directory when sending e-mails or trying to pull up phone numbers. You also get more control over what content and how much of it syncs than I believe the other platforms have.
in your place i would wait until february or march 2010 then the mobile phones will get 4g which will allow you to surf with 100 mbit in the internet the max now is hsdpa with 7.2 mbit

Don't think we'll even have functioning 4G networks by then.
Go for TP2!!
It´s a great superb device
I was thinking of going down the route of the TP2. Have seen it being reviewed on youtube.
What's it like to text and email on the touchcreen without using the slide out keypad?

Should my dad go for N8?

Hey guys, my dad is looking for a new phone. He currently has a 3 year old HTC Herald(A beaten up, broken touch screen, piece of ****) and seriously wants to have a replacement. He loves photography(Always tries to learn new things about his DSLR and improves his photography) so wants a phone that has a good camera. He wants a nice capacitive touch screen with e-mail(G-mail push) and facebook integration and GPS(With maps as well as map tracking) and perhaps some decent time-killer games. Nokia N8 costs about 22-24k INR here and sounds perfect for his needs, his other opinion was Dell Streak but it is about 34k INR plus its future of having gingerbread seems weak. Desire HD/Z are not available here plus they might be quite expensive when they make it here. I got a Desire and he doesn't want to have the same phone(Not that he found it to be bad, but he doesn't want to copy anyone. Plus camera on Desire is something he doesn't like(Not that I do)).
What do you think?
This is a matter of preference and I cant say much about the actual phone BUT after using android symbian just doesn't cut it anymore. But again this is only my opinion.
Agree with Daml...if you want to have also a GPS and maps, what is better than Android? I would stick with google OS instead of Symbian...
My GF has the N97 mini & was looking at N8 as hates the N97s Horrid UI, unfortunatly N8 is not a lot better.
Trying to move her to Android as far better OS than Nokia's bodged efforts at making Symbian touch friendly.
WM5 was better than OS on her N97 mini.
the n8 is a brick.
i played with thae phone. Symbian is wack in my opinion.
Well what would you guys suggest?
My wife has the N8. She likes it. It seems like a solid phone and hasn't given her any problems. Battery life is average, nowhere near her old phone, E71. She chose the N8 because of the ease of migration and the familiarity and she wanted a great camera. I forget where I read it, but the tagline was Nokia made a great camera with cell phone capabilities. It seems to be true. The Ovi Store and Ovi Maps are pretty good.
I can't directly compare with Android though. I prefer winmo and only boot to android for specific tasks or some game play.
Found migration using the Nokia transfer a long way from perfect.
The camera & build are only plus points, OS is simply a pathetic effort for aimed market & price.
Don't ask people on XDA about a Nokia device. You will only get troll and false answers. The only minus about the N8 is the application selection. Buy one to open the eyes of developers.
Seems like this post has been here for almost 2 weeks now so not sure if u have bought ur dad his phone yet.
However, i would disagree with the comments of people above me.
1) What is so bad about symbian^3? i agree that symbian1 sucked due to the inconsistent one and two touch to enter thing but symbian 3 has no such problems at all.
2) n8 offers alot more than just a 12Mp camera! It records in 720p HD, has active noice cancellation.
3) What other phones has a HDMI output? after taking pictures u can even just hook the phone up to a tv
4) I agree that there arent that many games yet, but it already has more than 10 HD games already so far and it's only been about 2 months. EA games are even backing the n8 symbian 3 by creating HD games for them!
hmm what else, i guess it does sell itself with the casing etc. I blive the top andriod atm is samsung galaxy s? The screen is nice indeed, but it has no flash and only 5mp camera, so night pictures are totally out of the picture. but yea try it before buying it! It's a really good phone i reckon, love the GPS on it too. oh and also not to mention the photo editing software that it comes with!

oh and btw, i migrated from my n86 to n8 without any problems. All my stuff got transfered over perfectly!
Yeh files migrated after afew attempts but sms dates are changed to date of the transfer which is a bit pathetic.
Had an issue with Thai font turning to squares after transfer, not good as both Nokia devices are Asian market & support Asian fonts so the transfer software appears to have an issue with this !
More customization of transfer options would be good too.
For price & Nokias long running in mobile market I would expect a lot more, the OS is about 3 years behind the compition ! My old WM2003se HTC Magician with Resco Photo Viewer makes an N97 mini photo viewer look completely pathetic, put it next to an iphone or WM6.5.3 OS & it looks like a 1st year students software project.
I'm not a nokia/symbian fan BUT, according with your dad's purposes, i think the N8 sounds exactly like the phone you're looking for.

will the uma app below work on the NOKIA N8 does any one know .I am thinking of buying one ..thanks
"T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling app has finally been hacked to work on Google Nexus One. If you are a Nexus One owner on T-Mobile, then you can install this hacked app and make Wi-Fi calls without any pertinent issues. However the installation instructions of this hack are still a bit of a task for novices, as it requires you to flash kernels and libraries before planting the APK file. "

I have both a premium android device (mytouch 4g with froyo) and N8. Although it comes down to individual preference, I prefer the android device. The UI is much more user friendly and smooth, theres actually a portrait qwerty keyboard available. The widgets are also much more customisable and easier to use. Additionally, the apps make the android device much more favourable. As a medical student, I find a plethora of medical apps available on Android (almost as many as the Iphone), and even otherwise there are a lot more apps available to make it feel like a true smartphone. It's also the little things that matter, such as the fact that the Android phone automatically syncs your contacts with facebook and twitter profiles of your friends, whereas the N8 does not appear to have this capability.
Admittedly the N8 feels like a lot more sturdy device (has gorilla glass and aluminised body), but I got it largely because of the availability of Ovi Maps (although I like Google Maps, I don't like the idea of needing a data connection everytime I go outside and need it). One other thing is that the N8 is a pentaband 3g device, meaning it would work on 3g networks in virtually every country and with every provider, although to my knowledge there is no such android device. This would be esp useful if you travel a lot (like me). This is something I personally think the people at Nokia should have actually bothered to mention when marketing the device. I mainly keep the N8 to listen to music, and for when I go overseas, but it is not my main device.
Overall, I'd definitely say go with the android device (esp. as the mytouch 4g is a great device).
it's up to you , but i think HTC is better!
Not in the camera department. If you want a camera phone look at samsung, nokia or sony's selection.

Slightly Off Topic - Any Fans of WP7 in here?

I am loving my SAMSUNG INFUSE...I am nearing my 30 day return policy and I've been tempted to go get the AT&T HDC HD7s only because I've had my eye on WP7 for a very long time...but I realize that while that phone was pretty good when it was released with T-Mobile, it's hardware is aging and even Mango isn't enough to lure me...here's why:
Front Facing Camera: I've used it several times when my daughter and I are out and want to snap a shot together. My wife and I have also used Qix video chat a few times a week to chat at lunch.
4G: Yeah, it's not "real" 4G but it counts...
Customization: If I want a totally new launcher screen (live tiles on WP7), I can go from my built in touchwiz, to LauncherPro or my currently in use SPB Shell 3D. I like having "tiles" of screens of categories of apps/functions. On the flip side, I DO like live tiles in WP7. I did convince someone to purchase a WP7 and I played around with it for a while and it seemed more like SPB Shell in a sense...nice look, low utility value.
Here is my "day to day" that I use with my Infuse
Outlook Syncing: I sync Contacts, Calendar, Tasks AND Notes via Companionlink/DejaOffice...it works rather well...not as clean as ActiveSync did but it works well and wirelessly. I used ActiveSync for 4-5 years and simply can't live without syncing with Outlook.
Remtoe Desktop: When I get paged, in a pinch, the VPN and Remote Desktop (especially Citrix receiver) come in handy with my Android Phone.
Dropbox: I am a heavy DropBox user. I know better SkyDrive functions are coming with Mango but I need this now. I can also do the same with SkyDrive on Droid with an app called Sorami.
I am not trashing WP7 at all...just couldn't take a step back for 18-24 months (contract). The HD7 is a fine phone but it does lack some in the camera area compared to the Infuse. Considering I don't want to lose my most important features now, I could really never leave Android...they are now leading the pack in terms of being cutting edge...thoughts?
Personally, not a fan of WM7 at all. Used WM devices in pre-android era and loved it, but as soon as I saw the horrific (personal opinion) WM7 interface, immediatly switched to android and never looked back.
In my opinion, the whole design idea of WM7 (partial display of a big palette with info) is ballsy, but incredibly stupid.
Personal opinions aside, WM7 has many limitations which I won't list here. Also, their sales are terribad, Microsoft just confirmed that themselves (see engadget). Also, merger with Nokia (WM7 may suffer from that), slow buggy updates (Mango, cut/paste).. Plus, u'll be throwing away the huge android community.
My personal advice is that switching from Android to WM7 is an all-around a really bad idea.
But, your decision.
I would never take a windows phone over an android. Better programming, better phones, now support on Android.

i like windows layout but could never leave android for it. but i do occasionally use launcher 7 in the market to get my fix. the dev has done a great job with it. but even using that you soon realize the limitations of it. i do like that focus though.
not really. i used to laugh at the guys that started all the " can we port wp7 to the captivate" threads, i couldnt understand what the appeal was when andriod already had a huge comunity and range of hardware. i think the vertical scrolling is a good idea if you keep the number of apps down. it is good as a phone but not good as a smart phone.
There's no apps. Simple.

Oh, I am not...I would lose too much functionality. Is it me or is Android like Windows Mobile but much better? Maybe it is me...
android is android
i like the whole simple live tile interface.
thats about it,
WP7 is really good at basic functions like phone calls, texting, pictures, sharing pictures, email, etc. The lack of apps is the real deal-breaker for me. I generally like it, though.
