Hey guys, my dad is looking for a new phone. He currently has a 3 year old HTC Herald(A beaten up, broken touch screen, piece of ****) and seriously wants to have a replacement. He loves photography(Always tries to learn new things about his DSLR and improves his photography) so wants a phone that has a good camera. He wants a nice capacitive touch screen with e-mail(G-mail push) and facebook integration and GPS(With maps as well as map tracking) and perhaps some decent time-killer games. Nokia N8 costs about 22-24k INR here and sounds perfect for his needs, his other opinion was Dell Streak but it is about 34k INR plus its future of having gingerbread seems weak. Desire HD/Z are not available here plus they might be quite expensive when they make it here. I got a Desire and he doesn't want to have the same phone(Not that he found it to be bad, but he doesn't want to copy anyone. Plus camera on Desire is something he doesn't like(Not that I do)).
What do you think?
This is a matter of preference and I cant say much about the actual phone BUT after using android symbian just doesn't cut it anymore. But again this is only my opinion.
Agree with Daml...if you want to have also a GPS and maps, what is better than Android? I would stick with google OS instead of Symbian...
My GF has the N97 mini & was looking at N8 as hates the N97s Horrid UI, unfortunatly N8 is not a lot better.
Trying to move her to Android as far better OS than Nokia's bodged efforts at making Symbian touch friendly.
WM5 was better than OS on her N97 mini.
the n8 is a brick.
i played with thae phone. Symbian is wack in my opinion.
Well what would you guys suggest?
My wife has the N8. She likes it. It seems like a solid phone and hasn't given her any problems. Battery life is average, nowhere near her old phone, E71. She chose the N8 because of the ease of migration and the familiarity and she wanted a great camera. I forget where I read it, but the tagline was Nokia made a great camera with cell phone capabilities. It seems to be true. The Ovi Store and Ovi Maps are pretty good.
I can't directly compare with Android though. I prefer winmo and only boot to android for specific tasks or some game play.
Found migration using the Nokia transfer a long way from perfect.
The camera & build are only plus points, OS is simply a pathetic effort for aimed market & price.
Don't ask people on XDA about a Nokia device. You will only get troll and false answers. The only minus about the N8 is the application selection. Buy one to open the eyes of developers.
Seems like this post has been here for almost 2 weeks now so not sure if u have bought ur dad his phone yet.
However, i would disagree with the comments of people above me.
1) What is so bad about symbian^3? i agree that symbian1 sucked due to the inconsistent one and two touch to enter thing but symbian 3 has no such problems at all.
2) n8 offers alot more than just a 12Mp camera! It records in 720p HD, has active noice cancellation.
3) What other phones has a HDMI output? after taking pictures u can even just hook the phone up to a tv
4) I agree that there arent that many games yet, but it already has more than 10 HD games already so far and it's only been about 2 months. EA games are even backing the n8 symbian 3 by creating HD games for them!
hmm what else, i guess it does sell itself with the casing etc. I blive the top andriod atm is samsung galaxy s? The screen is nice indeed, but it has no flash and only 5mp camera, so night pictures are totally out of the picture. but yea try it before buying it! It's a really good phone i reckon, love the GPS on it too. oh and also not to mention the photo editing software that it comes with!

oh and btw, i migrated from my n86 to n8 without any problems. All my stuff got transfered over perfectly!
Yeh files migrated after afew attempts but sms dates are changed to date of the transfer which is a bit pathetic.
Had an issue with Thai font turning to squares after transfer, not good as both Nokia devices are Asian market & support Asian fonts so the transfer software appears to have an issue with this !
More customization of transfer options would be good too.
For price & Nokias long running in mobile market I would expect a lot more, the OS is about 3 years behind the compition ! My old WM2003se HTC Magician with Resco Photo Viewer makes an N97 mini photo viewer look completely pathetic, put it next to an iphone or WM6.5.3 OS & it looks like a 1st year students software project.
I'm not a nokia/symbian fan BUT, according with your dad's purposes, i think the N8 sounds exactly like the phone you're looking for.

will the uma app below work on the NOKIA N8 does any one know .I am thinking of buying one ..thanks
"T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling app has finally been hacked to work on Google Nexus One. If you are a Nexus One owner on T-Mobile, then you can install this hacked app and make Wi-Fi calls without any pertinent issues. However the installation instructions of this hack are still a bit of a task for novices, as it requires you to flash kernels and libraries before planting the APK file. "

I have both a premium android device (mytouch 4g with froyo) and N8. Although it comes down to individual preference, I prefer the android device. The UI is much more user friendly and smooth, theres actually a portrait qwerty keyboard available. The widgets are also much more customisable and easier to use. Additionally, the apps make the android device much more favourable. As a medical student, I find a plethora of medical apps available on Android (almost as many as the Iphone), and even otherwise there are a lot more apps available to make it feel like a true smartphone. It's also the little things that matter, such as the fact that the Android phone automatically syncs your contacts with facebook and twitter profiles of your friends, whereas the N8 does not appear to have this capability.
Admittedly the N8 feels like a lot more sturdy device (has gorilla glass and aluminised body), but I got it largely because of the availability of Ovi Maps (although I like Google Maps, I don't like the idea of needing a data connection everytime I go outside and need it). One other thing is that the N8 is a pentaband 3g device, meaning it would work on 3g networks in virtually every country and with every provider, although to my knowledge there is no such android device. This would be esp useful if you travel a lot (like me). This is something I personally think the people at Nokia should have actually bothered to mention when marketing the device. I mainly keep the N8 to listen to music, and for when I go overseas, but it is not my main device.
Overall, I'd definitely say go with the android device (esp. as the mytouch 4g is a great device).
it's up to you , but i think HTC is better!
Not in the camera department. If you want a camera phone look at samsung, nokia or sony's selection.

G1 highlights: Android OS
HD highlights: Super 3.8" screen
A good video comparative (Page it´s in spanish): http://www.xataka.com/2008/09/24-htc-touch-hd-y-t-mobile-g1-en-video
G1: Android and Capacitive Touchscreen, along with hardware keyboard
HD: Superior Processing power, WM Customizability, AT&T (maybe) release, and styling. I really wish it had a capacitive touchscreen though.
any ETA on the HD yet? and is it gonna be affordable..to us "commoners" ?
or am i gonna have to dip into my 401k for this sucker?
and am i the only one who thinks the 480x800 WGVA, and 5MP cam is the sweetest thing since sliced bread?
Why is there always a competition thread between phones? The G1 is supposed to be a start for google. . . . and it didn't do so well. Whats next a HD vs iPhone?

What will the Apple fanboys bash? The fact that it runs on WM? Yes, but at least everyone will acknowledge it's failings instead of pretending everything's rosy in the garden like all Apple "enthusiasts" do!

I never said it didn't have flaws. . . .
Thats prabably one of the targets . . lol
I know, the lack of a real keyboard and D-Pad will be a pain, no multitouch, and no complete tactile feedback(latest pre-pro features bottom touch sensetive buttons with tactile feedback). . .there are some others but whats the fun of finding the flaws, then it makes the phone less "wantable" and then we expect to much out of HTC. . .

I actually agree with Tito here. I'm no fan of iPhone. But you have to give credit to where it's due. iPhone has dominated the American market, not so much the European or Asian markets. You can say that has to do with Apple ability to strike better deals with Phone Service Providers, but you also have to acknowledge that Apple has found themselves a niche market, the portable multimedia market, and has managed to be the frontrunners on that market.
iPhone is essentially a multimedia phone and for it's main purpose, it is "awesome" so to speak and so far WM based devices has struggled to compete with iphone on that front, despite WM more functionability.
The fact that HTC has launched HTC Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Diamond, Touch HD, sort of tells the story of how HTC has faired with WM against the iPhone.
Now one question remains, are HTC devices worst than iPhone in terms of hardware, or HTC is losing ground because WM is just not that good of a program? After all HTC, Omnia, X1 all had to create their own version software UI to make it more "user/finger friendly" for customers.
I for one believe that iPhone is a better multimedia/phone device but because I'm not that much of a multimedia buff, I prefer the all encompassing functionability of WM, which gives me all round advantage.
Now back to the question of HD or G1.
I really have no opinion and I think it's just too soon to make a comparison, as most people have not used the google android yet.
If we talk about hardware then I guess HD is much better than G1, but if we talk about software then G1 has no grounds to compete because it's an enigma still?
imho then unless one really love android then HD will be batter the first g1 imho is ½baked
no teething, no adsp not alot of 3th party progs yet
cant be found without a contract....
but it shows promise
hope sooner or later it will wake the sleeping wm

I'm not sure that Apple have found a niche market. The market was already there but they have been able to exploit it better because of the hype created by the iPod. But let's be honest here: consumers are dumb. If you give something a nice shiny cover people will buy it and that's exactly what happened with the iPod when in reality you could have bought a PPC to not only listen to music but watch videos, play games, surf the net, send emails, etc, etc.
It's no surprise that Apple followed up with a video iPod, iPod Touch and the iPhone. They simply took advantage of MS's inexplicable unwillingness to develop WM into something it could and should have been years ago.
And yet, just like the iPod the iPhone lacks features that could really make it a killer device for EVERYONE. As a techical business user who is also a mass market consumer, for me it's missing 2 fairly essential features: a decent camera (to take spontaneous photos of my son) and the ability to connect it to my laptop to access the internet.
The problem for me is actually a wider one in that no phone on the market does everything I need it to. I want:
- the UI of the iPhone
- the 5MP camera with Xenon flash of the Nokia 6220
- in-built voice navigation of various Nokia devices
- the flexibility of WM
- the inbuilt storage of the iPhone
- the size of the SE XPeria X1
Is that too much to ask? I don't think so but it seems that every manufacturer is reluctant to make such a device when the technology is clearly already out there.
I prefer the HD becase of the hardware specks, the large screen and slick design, also like many others I am windows mobile fan...
G1 design is ugly, they should came with something more slick than this (it looks like the device was made back in 2006 - i am talking about the design)

Yea, but not everyone wants a PPC, they see the iPhone as an easy to use thing that is made by apple(consumer's brain thought: Oh!! Look apple made it it must be good at playing music and junk). I prefer WM because of all the options it has and the more personalization you can do. I would like your idea too, but I wouldn't want the UI of the iPhone simply because as more commands and options add in, your fingers will be too big and its simplistic nature goes away. The UI is successful because it is so restrictive(not too restrictive) and lets things run the same over and over(WM can do the same thing it just depends on the hardware and software support). IDK, I had an iPhone, I loved it but it got stolen and then I realized that I should go back to WM because of the way it works and the freedom it has.
BOT:
I think that the G1 is Google's tester phone to see how far android will go with a simple phone. This will be Google's trial and error. . .

Hello,
I have been recently thinking about changing my HTC Touch Cruise for something newer. To my mind obviously came: HTC HD2, iPhone, Blackberry Storm2.
I know that specifications-wise, HTC wins. BUT...
I have recently experienced the new Blackberry and realized that: the operation system works much quicker and nicer than Windows which HTC uses. It also seems to have less problems -> my current HTC needs a good hard restart once a week or so, because it freezes on more demanding films or some music.
I thought that Windows has much more applications available - well, I am not so sure any more once I realized that thesaurus.com produced their dictionaries for... iPhone and Blackberry. Windows has lost its market and is not taken into account by the newest developers.
I am also wondering whether 4.3'' isn't a little bit too much -> I won't be able to put it into my pocket any longer!
What do you think? HTC seems to have created a very beautiful palmtop, full of great specifications but it has also committed one crucial mistake - it used Windows...
I would be grateful if you could share with me your opinions. Maybe my fear is unjustified and the newest HD2 works perfectly in all the aspects easily beating the competition?
I have to agree with you.
I have been a WM fan for the last 5 years or so and have become disilusioned with the OS. I too was looking for a change and had been watching the LEO. This is indeed a good hardware spec, but imho let down by WM6.5. I decided that I was after a better consumer experiance and opted for the iPhone. Everyone raves about them for a long time now so I decided (after much researching) that I would try one. I have not been let down by it yet. Mind you, I've only had it 3 weeks. I'm taking a punt that in 18 months or so, WM will have caught up or Andriod will have matured, but until then, I'll take a walk on the dark side.
So far I'm loving the fact that is just seems to work and it integrates with my car hifi perfecly. I can now play music and do hands free over Bluetooth. Under WM I could only do handsfree. Surfing the internet is now almost as easy as on my desktop. Safari browser beats anything else I've tried so far. The on screen keyboard was a worry at first, but it's easy to use, especialy in landscap (I have big thumbs). As a music player, well it beats WM any day of the week.
I know I will eventualy hit it's limitations, and when I do I'll consider jailbreaking, much like using custom ROMs from here realy. Untill then I'll keep an eye on the mobile development and look forward to seeing what happens in 18 months.
Good luck with your search, for now I have found my answer, I hope you find yours.
Mav
Personally I'd go for the HD2, as I rank spec more than software. The iPhone is a but too common and its pricing is a far too high for what you get (mins and txts etc). Blackberry has the same problem its too common, I know loads of people with Blackberrys who only use them for Facebook, but if your the kind of person who send and receieves loads of e-mails get a BB as they do it better than WinMo and iPhone.
Alex
Here we go again..........
Leo of course
Well I have been WM for several years and thought I would give the iPhone a trial. A BIG MISTAKE. Its dredful and im getting a HD2 next week.
I thought i'd add my comments to this, i've been predominantly symbian s60 / win mob for years now due to the fact that they "do" everything. But i think its fair to say that windows in all guises comes with the fact that as soon as you start to ask a bit of it, it sticks it's fingers up at you and stops working (symbian too, but to a lesser degree). Usually resulting in a reboot. I recently had an upgrade to do so i started researching into what i might get. In the end, after a spate with symbian, i v much wanted a win mo device but was ever so curious about the iphone. So many ppl couldn't be wrong, right? I was also deeply tempted by the blackberry bold too. I ended up going for the iphone as the upgrade and bought a TP2 as well. I just couldn't do the iphone thing on its own in case i hated it.
Pleasingly, i don't. The iphone is everything a win mo phone isn't, and vica versa. The iphone is completely dependable, never misses a beat, does what it does do perfectly and apart from some of the crazy apps, completely dull. It is frustratingly good. Even multitasking isn't really much of an issue due to push notifications and the like. I'd love to say the screen res is an issue but it never is. Safari is in a league of it's own. But it is dull. I use it as my everyday phone because it's dependable, but i use my TP2 to mess about with, i've had that many different ROM's on it it's silly, i follow forum progress with different things going on with bated breath, excited to see if they can pull this new rom off, or a linux port. It's exciting, i can modify the hell out of it and personalise it my way. I can send files via bluetooth without having to jump through hoops (unlike the iphone).
So, it comes down to what you want it to do, and if you can put up with less or more customization. There is a lot to choose from out there now and it's hard to decide. Look at the palm pre, and droid, and what about the n900 0n maemo?? Whatever you decide, you'll end up with a really good bit of kit, cos the mobile world it going potty with new stuff at the mo.
Just one last note, in defence of win mo, it may be getting a bit left behind in terms of bling, but it still remains one of the most functional os's out there, it's just that the young guns have caught up now.
Hmmm as I don't like iPhone (because everyone has it) and I wouldn't go Sony Ericsson (because I don't believe in their great ability of doing palmtops), I am personally trying to find reasons for continuing with HTC.
1.Is Windows 7 going to be released "soonish", so that if I buy HD2 now I might get some (hopefully) acceptable o/s?
2.There is also Droid Eris / HTC Dragon / HTC Passion / whatever it is called. If it is "HD2 on Google Android 2.0" then the question arises:
------is it just the case of software? If yes, I assume xda-masters will sooner or later allow easy migration between these two systems, or are there any technological obstacles? If this were true then this would be the best option -> One phone if you get bored - you can always swap to another o/s...
3. What was the market response to Android 2.0? What do you guys think about it, as compared with Windows?
I'm using Android at the moment having used WM for the past few years. It's version 1.5 and I'm loving it. Can't wait for 2.0 to come out for the Hero.
It hardly ever needs a reset - it 'just works'
The HD2 is one bad boy! No one knows when Windows 7 going to be released...maybe 3rd Q of 2010. But WM6.5.1 should be a lot sooner for the Leo...
I think its funny that every ppc that htc release, we seem to have this debate "blah" vs iphone, or is "blah" the iphone killer, this has been going on since the touch diamond, personaly i dont think any ppc can be compaired to the iphone, as ppc's are tools with functionality where as the iphone is a toy, it has no real functionality, yeah it looks good and there are lots of apps availble for them but how many of them are useful? and as for "killing" the iphone its clear by now that it has a far too big a fan base to be killed off, anyway thats my 2 cents lol

Well said!
+ 1 for this!
Every new phone and threads start with comparatives...
Very, Very UNFAIR comparison!!!
Seriously, HD2, go against someone ur OWN size (aka Xperia X10, i8910 HD, Motorola Milestone, N900, Acer F1)!
Leave iPhone alone! It's NOT even a smartphone (moreover not even a basic phone as it still lacks some basic phone functionality that people had for over a decade) as it doesn't even do multitasking...
What's "blackberry"?
bye
Hi Guys.
I need help in buying a new phone. I am using a Hyundai A 200 with winmo 5 and i have'nt had any problems with it except for its massive size and low battery life. I wanna go for a new smartphone so after a long research and review reading decided to go either with HTC, Samsung and Motorola. The devices i was satisfied with were HTC HD2, Samsung I8000 OMNIA 2 and Motorola Milestone (DROID).
Price wise HTC HD2 - 28k, Samsung Omnia 2 - 28k and Moto Milestone - 27.5k [Am from India].
A few days ago i visited a mobile shop for a hands on approach to clear my doubts and finally decide. I Liked all the three devices but obviously sided with the HTC HD2. Things that actually blowed my brains were the sheer screen size, responsiveness, capacitive touch screen, 1Ghz Processor & SENSE... Though the Touchwiz interface of Samsung and Android Of Moto were Good but HTC Hd2 was just awesome. It was when i came home and started reading reviews of HD2 in-depth that i realized its camera had a pinkish hue, the device hung up (getting up from sleep mode) etc, that was disappointing.
I dont wanna spend 34k and end up with a laggy phone. I also read that the codec support in OMNIA 2 was way better than in HTC HD2 (not and issue cos I can always convert it to suppored formats ). The guy from the mobile shop told me android sucked esp since file transfers over bluetooth were'nt possible (but later i read that rooting made that possible), and my friends told me that Applications couldn be installed on the SD card in android but i read in the forums yesterday that an app "app2sd" or something similar made this possible. I am open to both Win Mo and Android.
So now am really confused I want to know if the HTC HD2 has these flaws and if custom ROM's covered these flaws? Should I go for HTC or SAMSUNG or MOTO? Which one is really worth the money?
Am gonna use the device for reading e-books & lotsa documents (esp Word and excel files), listen to music and watch a few videos, Gaming (occasionally), as a portable camera and video recorder (shots are gonna be indoors mostly so if someone could give me the results of indoor shots it would be really appreciable) and calls, texts and mails, of course!
I also noticed the poll results for the Best HTC device of 2009 and HTC HD2 bags 46.90%
Everything is pointing toward HTC HD2, so if I get a positive outlook for owners i would go ahead with it or i have to look into the alternatives. so, Please do update me with your suggestions and views.
Also do let me know if I should consider some other device or wait for another few months if any better device is in the making
Thank you in advance.
Send me 20k U.S. and I'll hook you up with any phone you want, ha ha.
Nah, just messin.
Anyways, go with Android, man. I would be so pissed moving from Android to winmo. I like my apps too damn much. I think I'm breaking down and getting a nexus one. Even after I swore I'd never get anything without a physical keyboard again. =[
If you gonna be using Word and excel files alot then you probably want windows mobile...go with the hd2 and its suppose to be getting windows phone 7, which is suppose to be alot better than WM or thats what i hear...
Go for Leo definitely!
Thank You
Thank you so much for your suggestions and prompt replies guys....
Still i read that HD2 in plagued with software lags, Hang ups, and other random issues.... any solutions for these issues??? are they hardware related or software related??? what about the pink hue bug in the photos???

Android's still got a lota snags right or thats what i understood after reading a lot of posts in this forum. Its Open source so we can expect nothing but the best and comparing it to the i phone or winmo doesnt do it any justice... Which is the better phone for the Android platform??? I was thinking of Se Xperia X10 or HTC Legend..... But after going through XperiaX10's wishlist i have second thoughts....
The Nexus is an awesome android device...and I don't have any snags that can't be tweeked
wow all the prices are very high.. you say HD2 cost still 34K which is circa 5900HKD here in Hong Kong the HD2 goes for 24.5K (4200HKD)
Anyhow as previously some mentioned if you need to sync with your PC and with Microsoft outlook for your PIM WM is the best.
Until now I can’t really see the advantages of Android over WM and especially Motorola which has not much devices on the market therefore it will be difficult to get support even here.
For my opinion it comes down to HD2 or Samsung. Between them I would choose HD2. However again for my opinion paying 34K for device that will not get an official upgrade is far too high.. I hope you guys going to not kill me but what is the price for Iphone???

I got a cofirmation mail from my phone retailer that the price is actually 28 k and not 36 k as mentioned in their site....
Moto is out of my mind too... HTC legend and se Xperia x10 were taken up in favor of android but still HD2 kicks butt when it comes to screen size....
Iphone 3GS 32 GB is 39 k here....
Pink Hue camera issue...
i read in a lot of forums that the hdt hd2 is plagued by a pink hue in the pictures taken with its camera and few say that its a hardware issue and others say its a software issue any ideas on this???? in the support page of HTC this update [Update for HTC HD2 – Digital Picture Enhancement
This update for HTC HD2 ensures every picture is captured in the clearest digital quality. The HTC HD2 and its twin LED flash will take beautiful pictures so you can cherish your memories forever] is available is this for the correction of pink hue????
Hey friends,
whats up? How you like Android? Is it fulfilling all of your need? Have fun
Being someone that moved from Palm to the Android, I am fully satisfied! The only thing that I missed from palm is the ability to record my phone calls. But this is not Android OS issue it is hardware issue. So I am a happy Android(HTC Desire) user!
Of course! Everything I need in one homescreen, custom ROMs, plus it beats the hell out of an iPhone!
Most of my needs...
..and for the others we have women
Completely satisfied... Anything it didn't do straight out of the box was easy and painless to add. Having been a BB and iPhone user before, I can safely say Android is by far the best for me.
Although... It doesn't make my coffee in the morning and run me a bath when I finish work, so I've been forced to get married to cover these missing functions...
It has far surpassed my needs!
Even satisfied needs I didn't know I had!
Only drawback I can point to with switching over is there needs to be a way to get out of the cloud if you don't want to have your head, contacts and Calendar in those clouds.
And the lack of Sync with PC for Outlook built in is a major inconvenience.
(I have found some 3rd party functionality here none of it perfect yet)
I used to use my WinMo phone like it was intended, mostly as a communications device and for a wireless hotspot. Sometimes a MP3 player and rarely to get web pages or manuals for the devices I use in my work (Broadcast Video Engineer)
Now on android I have dish pointer that lets me know what satellites I can hit through the camera, I have better web to read and get Manuals where I can zoom much quicker and precisely than I could before.
It automatically will update all the programs I have gotten from the marketplace keeping itself up to date.
And the resposiveness of the hardware (1.2 Ghz) is just a pure pleasure!
It allows me to set the machine up in a sense like format (different tabs for different functions) and the widget is everything WinMo Today plugs SHOULD have been.
I am all for brand loyalty and I understand it is hard to leave a house that you spent so much of your life in but I can't ever imagine wanting to go back or onto the very simplistic and uncustomizable WinPho7.
Android isn't perfect but it sure is a lot better than the other OS' I have seen.
Coming from IOS it doesnt seem as smooth or polished but it has been able to do everything I need...
^^
+1...android has lots of customizations..great features but it isnt just as smooth as my iphone was.

The only thing is miss from my iphone is the ability to listen to podcasts at 2x speed. I know there are some apps out there that have a solution for this but they dont work on my Streak.
I would say i'm very Satisfied with android coming from a iPhone was a big upgrade to me. I like the freedom that we have and can customize pretty much everything. But I will admit that the only things I missed from having a iPhone is the music player and some of the apps were pretty sweet.
Very much!

I guess it depends on your phone and ROM. I use a Galaxy S, and Doc's ROM (fully customized from the kitchen), and my phone literally couldn't be faster. I click something and usually it's done before I lift my finger. Except for 3G (which is pathetic in Australia).

Absolutely! I used an iPhone for a year before switching to Android. A couple months ago, I decided to sell my iPhone so I booted it up to clear everything out, and couldn't figure out how to do anything! Simple actions, like turning on wifi, and finding an app, are multi-step processes there. Android is awesome, simply put.
Android has not failed me so far, not in regards to software. Apps are great, software gets better every update, account syncing makes adding contacts so much easier... I could go on.
That said, I've had my truly great experiences with the software only after I rooted my device, shortly after HTC pushed out their 2.1 Sense ROM for it. Since then, I've used a variety of amazing ROMs, both 2.2 and 2.3, which are much more representative of what Android is capable of when truly optimised to a specific device. I've used Symbian and iOS, but I don't think I'll be looking back from Android any time soon.
Yep! I find it can do everything I want and really fast, plus more. I must say there are some really handy apps out there.
One area which I think could improve is GPS software, I'm talking about offline map GPS software. I use CoPilot and while it's the best I've seen so far on Android, iGO8 on my i900 WinMo is much much better.
Great for multitasking, smooth, very customizable. I love android and will never switch to another os

Android is the best upgrading i ever did, switching from my dumb nokia n97..
The only thing degrading rite now is the android market.. Slowly, day by day, the android market has turned into itunes app market.. Lot's of crap apps rather than really useful apps.. Seriously, what's up with fart apps, stupid bikini puzzle, pointless sexy girl wallpaper apps?? We don't need million stupid apps that cluttering the market.. That is one of the reasons i stop myself from buying an iphone4..
No offense..
it is more than full filing my needs . I do everything with it fun, work, multimedia etc.
Far from satisfied.
Navigation isn't as good as on WM
Keyboard sucks, had to get swype
Can't make calls using phone numbers emailed to me
Email client is soooooo basic, only good thing about it is the ability to connect to 2 exchange servers
Browsing the web is a PITA, go to zoom in, accidently hit a link instead which is too small to read (hence the need to zoom in) and then have to go back and do it again. Also there are many pages/links which it can't handle using default browser/firefox/opera
So many apps, so few decent ones
Hello dear,
I have one question before I get my new smartphone.
I'm currently using WP7 which is Samsung Omnia 7.
I finally think it's not mature enough to use now in terms of some crucial features and a lack of apps. But actually I like the hardware such as super amoled and 4 inch screen.
Ive been searching for my new handset for few days and it's the time to make a decision.
My priority when I consider new smartphone is screen.
After I've used galaxy s, iPhone 4 and omnia 7, I think I will never get htc devices unless they will have amoled, though I like the sense UI. Because Amoled is one of the best screen ( black is real black.)
Google nexus s has super Amoled as well as Nokia N8(just amoled though)
And second priority is map. Nokia n8 has it's an own map app which is called ovi map.
And it works without wifi or 3G data as it's integrated. It's one of the attractiveness for me actually.
in google market, there must be some navigation apps but they are not free and cannot work without data.
Last thing I care of is multimedia function. I don't know if you guys know that Nokia n8 is called camera phone as it has 12 mega pixel camera. While nexus s has only 5 mp.
And Nokia n8 can connect with hdmi on tv as hdmi cable comes with handset when you get it.
What is the advantage for nexus s compared with Nokia n8?
Can anybody give me some answers or advice for me to decide?
Nexus family of products are showcases for the latest Android state. There are a lot of features that are not released with this phone. FM Radio, for instance.
I like to believe that a Nexus is a more geek friendly phone. People who like to thinker with its capabilities. Trying several ROM, etc, etc... In my opinion it's not a consumer phone, per se.
If you are only interest in the final features. Multimedia, camera capabilities, etc... I advise you to look for more friendly consumer products.
Seriously...? Are you comparing an Android phone with a symbian one? Really? No further comment.
All Android phones have Google Navigation and it works beautifully. While the camera quality of the Nexus S isn't as good as the N8, it still works pretty good in my opinion.
Also Symbian is a dying OS. If you haven't noticed Nokia is committing itself to Windows Phone 7 as their primary OS.
And finally the Nexus S is a whole lot faster and "sexier" then the N8

N8 has the best camera 12mpx with the real xenon flash. Nexus S will have better gaming experience with better 3D graphics.

Oh I know the OS is dying but not yet. Still they update the firmware every 3 month.
And as I stated the above, I'm not playing game often and I do care of offline map and multimedia features.
I just want to hear you guys from the advantages on Nexus S compare to Nokia n8.

Riiiiiight... So it isn't already dead for 1 year or so ? Clearly...
And what's up with the hole offline maps thingie ? You've got Maps 5.0+, which has offline caching, vectorized maps and offline re-routing. What the heck do you want more ? And you wish to sacrifice Android just for this ? Really ?
Size of memory and as I said, multimedia function.
Nexus s camera isn't great I read it from the review.
And I like Samsung made hardware but not camera and speaker.
Is there a hdmi port on nexus s?
All the multimedia features on n8 are the strongest attractiveness for me.
If there are something special things on nexus s, please let me know about it.
I had used android phone such as galaxy s and desire hd but I dislike android system as it looks unstable and fast but not too laggy.
The spec, the number of apps and speed are not important for me. The most important thing is if it is suitable for my needs.
Therefore, please give me some feedback from your experience.

The camera is more than adequate for taking pictures and video, MP is only really good if you want to blow the picture up to 'x' size. 5MP is more than enough for taking snaps.
No HDMI port, never really had any need for one myself, just chuck my files over onto the PC.
' I dislike android system as it looks unstable and fast but not too laggy.'
Really? Then you have made up your mind already! Its far from unstable or laggy. I came from a Nokia phone, it was all I would buy the last 10 years odd. That was until a friend showed me his Android phone. They really are awesome bits of kit. Symbian? Pah, thats so last gen ;-)
If you want a good camera, symbian, ovi maps than choose the n8 but If you want very good software, much apps, android, big screen etc. than go for the nexus s.
