My Custom X10 Boot Animation - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

Once in a while, I get into this modifying mode and this weekend I had time to work on my boot animation. So took some time and searched the forum and did some experimentation and I finally got what I want...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCwIvo-zWtc

Nice work man, *looks for download link* how do you create custom boot animations what program are you using

I used an old program called Animation Shop to create the animation. You can still look it up.. it used to come with PaintShop Pro but I think you can download it for free now.
Once the animation is done, you can save each frame as png file. You can then use this to replace the png files in bootanimation.zip from you phone.
Just make sure it's the right size. The animation size is 480 x 854.
I've attached the bootanimation.zip file below so you can edit or replace the png's.
Just make sure not to compress the files when you zip them.

Thanks for the info and the files, time to make some boot animations!

nice work...can you tell us what software you using for BOOT animations?

Question
So I have a rooted 2.1 X10 ... I created the animation fine, and loaded it into an uncompressed zip file... However how do you go about chmod'ing the system/media folder so that you can copy the file from the SDcard to the boot animation zip on the phone itself? I adb shell'd in and typed su... however I get an error message about cross linked files when trying to copy from SDcard to the phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
(I also tried using Astro file manager to do the copying as well)

Did you try:
(Adb shell) dd if=/sdcard/(where the .zip is located)/bootanimation1.zip of=/system/media/bootanimation.zip
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

I used rootexplorer to rename the original bootanimation and move the one I made into the system/media directory. For permission, just click on "mount r/w" in rootexplorer. This should allow you to do the above in your phone.

Actually, I got the apk file somewhere in this forum. Somebody was kind enough to share it so I'll share the one I have.
Just save it anywhere in your SD or in your phone and launch it..
[highlight]Mod Edit: Root Explorer is a paid app. Distributing it like that is warez activity, which is not allowed on XDA.[/highlight]

could you share the anims in a zip file please? i want to look at the frames how they are drawn, i like the effect with the light beam

[Boot Animation] Nexus One Red Flame Edition w/N1 Text

Basic explanation of this bootanimation. Part0, first part of boot animation starts with N E X U S O N E being spelled out top and bottom, then flying multiple N E X U S O N E letters move from outside to inside being consumed by the "fire" in the middle. Then NEXUS ONE is morphed and twisted into the Image you see below. Second part is Red Flame edition of standard bootanimation. Refined this quite a bit to get the colors to really pop off on the N1 screen.
Enjoy.
bootanimation.zip push to /system/media and reboot

Why not just put it in /data/local the boot animation binary looks there first and you don't have to remove your old boot animation.
either/or good point.

How would I go about pushing the file? I have the option to unzip but it saves it on the SD card. Am I doing something wrong?

I second this as I referred to this forum as to where to delete my custom boot animation from and ended up deleting the original one, (and the entire media folder.... i was drunk) but pushed it all back with the latest update (unzip vanilla update.zip and extract /system/media then in the same folder in cmd go: adb push media /system/media)
What`s with the blue version?
Is there anyway to create a ZIP file that will work as upgrade to add the bootanimation? I'm at work, without my microsd cable... Would like to just download from dropbox.
honestly.. when i saw the screenshot i just thought "ugly...".. then i installed it cause my current boot animation is worse lol
now.. i think: Awesome! Great work, really, looks perfect.

some boot animations

so, some fine work being done up the android theme thread...
i saw this , and thought i would share it, and tell you guys how i finally managed to get it to work.... i got his copy of the nexus one boot animation, because it's the same resolution as our phones. i unzipped the download, and put the bootanimation.zip (NOT extracted) into my sdk tools folder.
if you even want to consider putting the old one back on, it would be wise to pull it first, then rename it something. the original sprint splash is located at /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot recovery
*run custom recovery utility*
adb shell
# mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
# rm /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
# exit
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb reboot
yes, you have to get rid of the copy in /system/customize/resource first, and if you just put the new one there, for some reason it doesn't work.
probably the same instructions for any boot animation you want. only in the future you could probably just do the adb push to /system/media, since you will have already have erased the interfering sprint splash.

what do you mean you're in a windowed mode? if you got any version other than the nexus version, the resolution is too small, and it probably won't fill the screen.
the nexus version should work just fine. just make sure you pull the bootanimation.zip out of the the download.
if it doesn't work, try downloading again. i had a problem originally, and i think that it may have just been a bad download or something
btw, i guess i missed this thread which details the whole process. my bad.

Anyone with a batch image re-sizer feel like scaling this to 480x800? It looks OK at this resolution but would look much nicer at EVO size.

Nothing similar to this was found.
Within the system/media I did find it, was first looking in the wrong spot. However it doesn't let me delete the file or rename it. How do I remove it?
You will need root to delete it.
First remount /system to a writeable state and then delete the file or rename it.
Some advertising:
You can use my app to do that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013063
Start the app, go settings check "Remount /system", restart my app, browse to /system and delete or rename the file.

You will have to use an app or adb. If you don't know how to change boot animations properly, then you should probably stick with an app - no offense. If you're using Root Explorer, select the "mount r/w" button at the top. When you're finished, mount r/o the same way. Otherwise, the app mentioned in the post above mine will work. Do you have a different boot animation to replace it with? If you want the boot animation that came with the rom, just reflash the rom over itself. Just wipe cache and dalvik (don't wipe data) and you'll be good to go.

If you mean the first non animated picture you see once your phone starts, thats your splashscreen! The only way to get rid of this or swap it is to root your phone, & enable a Engineered Hboot & also get s-off otherwise you cannot get rid of it! [MOD]Notification toggles [62][58][42]

Here it is guys, the notification toggle mod for our phones!
I've ported this mod from the X10's T.E.A.M. ROM with awesome help by pvyParts!
This port is bug free and based on the original 4.0.2.A.0.42 SystemUI.

You just need full root acces. Take a look at the dev section.

You flash this in recovery, you need an unlocked bootloader to do this

You cant flash this through recovery because its not a zip file. Best thing to do is get a program like androidcommander and copy the file over manually. (the program does the adb commands for you)
the file needs to go in system/app and cant be installed like a regular apk.
and you don't need an unlocked bootloader, just full root access

Sorry, but could you explain further? I have root, and copy file to system/app wit root explorer, and cant install it...And I lost system bar now...Any help?
I can't get this to work either.
Androidcommander says I don't have root access even though I'm rooted, and the FAQ infers that I'll have to wipe my phone completely with a new flash and a modified boot.img to get Root Access (which would also require me to learn about editing ROM images).
I did get Busybox though, and I backed up my SystemUI.apk from before... after killing it off from the system/app folder I noticed I can at least restore the old one by installing it as a normal application... but getting this new one simply hasn't been working for me.
Ugh... patience is wearing thin.

Boom, sweet victory! I got it working... just had to drive myself near insanity with Android Terminal Emulator.
Added BusyBox to the list of SuperUser Access apps, got Terminal Emulator from the Android Market, moved the SystemUI.apk to the root of my SDCARD and entered the following commands:
su
cd /sdcard/
mount -o remount rw /system/ (somehow [mount -o remount,rw /system/] didn't work because of the comma)
cp -f SystemUI.apk /system/app
...and now I can do something I've been wanting to do for ages... NotificationToggle... get the **** off my system
Got it to work through insecure adb...What i did was install insecure adb via the apk (this cuases your phone to reboot after installing) , typed in "adb remount" in cmd and the simply used this command: adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/SystemUI.apk.
NOTE - You will have to put the system ui.apk into the same folder as adb and browse to that folder using command prompt.
I'm fairly new to this stuff so no idea if what I did is correct...BUT it is working for me now
