[Q] Not a clean root? - General Questions and Answers

I'm new on here and have read a few posts here in there in the last few months...I've been having some problems with my root so I decided to post for some help...sorry for the noobiness...
Ok, so I have an Epic 4g and a few months ago I tried to root it with the one click root...I'm not sure where the original thread is :/ but for some reason certain things don't work on my root and others do...I know enough to know that thats not normal but I'm not completely sure why...
For instance I can use Titanium Backup and I can use like SuperUser and that but I cant Use wireless tether.
Also, when I plug my phone into my computer it says "USB device not recognized"...could it be because my laptop is windows 64 bit? or something...
And last but not least theres apps in the app market that I'm unable to find :/ like chrome to phone so idk if thats a related problem or not...idk sorry for the noob question I know it is but I've tried reading up on everything but it seems too complicated...I just wanted to root it :/ I know I'm an idiot haha
Thanks for all the help

[Q] Please help me root my xperia x10 mini pro 2.1 update 1

Hey all, this is a great forum so ive decided its the best 1 to post about my issue too: ive got my phone locked, now ive paid for it to be unlocked and i think its only fair that i can be able to remove the software that comes with the phone from the phone carrier which i dont need: like uno trial, guitar hero trial etc...
So ive heard that i need to root my phone but i am totally unexperient at this as ive never done it before and never had an android phone before so please could someone give me a full step by step guide of what i need to do to root my xperia x10 mini pro android 2.1 update 1? its a great deal for me as not only it should help me remove useless apps that keep installing themselves once i restart the phone but it also helps me install apps on the SD card rather than on the limited 128mb phone internal memory.
Thanks very much in advance!
hey im sorry ive forgot to mention
im running windows xp pro sp3 all updates, if you need to know anything else please tell me what and ill specify it
No one willing to show me a complete guide for this? :\ all guides ive seen so far do not mention "basic steps" which i cant actually guess them if i havent done them before no? ive heard something about installing some drivers and adb but ive got no clue wth they mean with that, any help?
Thanks in Advance!
Every phone is different try going to Google or the fourms search typing in your phones make and model and the word root or how to to root "your phone" good luck
Sent from my hero running froyo with the XDA APP
thats what ive been doing but many ppl were complaining that they were not complete and did not explain what adb meant or what did they mean that u had to install the drivers, all ive seen was replies like "oh how are u trying to root your phone without knowing what a simple thing like adb means" and not helpfull crap like that...
Well thx anyways i supose im gonna keep looking :\

z4 issues

hey guys, i rooted my old x10 without any problems and i wanna do the same to my captivate. so i found some instructions on here about doing it. im running 2.2 on the phone right now. i found a video link through here
youtube.com/watch?v=LFHLVF1aA0Q
ive got the right apps, i downloaded whats needed, but im still having issues.
ill open up z4root and hit permanent root and itll run for a minute or so and then just shut down like its been closed, no errors or anything. i try to fire up titanium backup, i had the pro version downloaded through aptoide but it stopped working so i uninstalled everything and tried again and now cant find it so im using the free market version. anyways it opens up and says i dont have root permision and need busy box, so i click the problems button, click yes do it to install busy box and it gives me an error through titanium and says to refer to a webpage but doesnt bring up anything. as it stands z4 doesnt seem to be working, when i open it up again it gives me rooting options but not to unroot, and i just tried it now and it forced closed and now wont even open.
so yeah, thats alot of info but im lost with this. any help would be great.
an i had an account on here with actual posts but forgot my sign in info, havent been on here in a while so please dont think my first post was one that was just asking for help.
Super one click root Give that a try.
i found that this morning, having issues getting it to work aswell, phone wont go into debugging mode while plugged in and keeps freezing ocl. ill sort it out thanks
When it comes to super one click i found it works best on a non 64bit system.
same deal, it wouldnt work on my windows 7 equiped laptop but my pc has vista and it worked no problem first time. thanks for the help guys
What 2.2 are you running? Why not just use a custom rom that comes with root? I haven't found the need for root because the stock att roms don't come with mobile ap and you have to do a bunch of work to enable unknown sources.

[Q] Frozen on "running psneuter"

Greetings!
I'm new to all this so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place. Please forgive me if I am.
I've spent the last hour searching all over these forums and the web in general for the answer to my question, but I haven't seen a resolution.
I have now tried the SuperOneClick root for my Nexus One about a dozen times, and it keeps freezing on "Running psneuter..." and never ever goes any further.
I have tried this on two different computers, I installed the USB drivers from the Android SDK, and I have USB debugging turned on. I've followed those instructions for what happens when you get in the loop, even though they don't seem to apply to this exact situation.
There have been a few other threads here that seem to be about this topic, but they simply die out with no apparent resolution.
Please help! I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Any ideas? I'd really like to root my phone, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...
Yeah, USB debugging on is fine..
Have you tried the gingerbreak APK?

I apologize for being such a noob to all this, but I'm not familiar with what that was. All anyone talks about in the "blogosphere" is SuperOneClick.
Does the gingerbreak APK simply root the phone and not mod it? For the moment I really just need to root. Eventually I want to MOD too, but first I want to get Titanium Backup Pro on there so I can save some game data before I MOD.
Again, sorry for being such a newbie. I haven't done rooting/modding since my G1 about 18 months ago, and things have changed since that...
I have to admit, I'm surprised how many posts I've seen with the exact problem I'm having, yet nobody has responded with an answer to this issue. There are dozens of comments on the Shortfuse site from other people who are stuck at "Running psneuter," and there are no fixes or even responses, really.
There seem to be many smart people on these forums, so it's strange that this hasn't been worked out or even addressed...
Exact same problem as above.. Locks at "running psneuter"
Pulling the usb then goes to ***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING.. Etc *** and then killing ADP server..
Nexus one
2.3.4
GRJ22
From what little I've been able to get out of others here, it seems that the problem is there's no exploit for 2.3.4 yet.
However, I found a guide to rooting here: http://goo.gl/oCWvR
It requires you to have an unlocked bootloader, a process that basically wipes your phone, so be aware of that. But I'm all rooted now so it's definitely possible to do.
Good luck!
I used the exact same guide.. went to post it to a thread here but as I have low post count I cant post links..
Bootloader was already unlocked.
Heh, well, once you get to SIX posts like I have, you're clearly a big-shot poster But yeah, that's a very good guide.
In the end, though, it wasn't what did it for me. I was still having issues with it, but it got fastboot on my system and got me started. I then followed the instructions on Cyanogen's site and put a different recovery on there in order to get CM7 installed on my phone.

[Q]Can someone help out an Android/Smartphone Noob

Hi there, I am new to the xda forum although I have been reading on it for quite some time. I understand all the work and time that the developers and others put in here and I would like to say thanks.
Ok so, I just bought my first smartphone(infuse) and I am wanting to root it. I have read alot on here (extremely informative forum) and have decided that by rooting I would be able to accomplish some things I wouldnt otherwise be able to do. I was hoping that some folks here would help shed some light on a few things for me. I keep reading about titanium backup and 3emod recovery and I was wondering if those are needed before I try to root my phone or if those are for rom flashing and kernels. Are there are any key things that I need to do like back up my original settings or something on my stock phone before I root it? If so, could you please explain the easiest way of doing this. Again, I am not wanting to flash roms(waiting for GB), just to root.
From what Ive read it seems all you have to do is install some samsung drivers(kies) and run a superoneclick program and thats that. Is it really this simple?

If all you want to do is "root" your phone. Yes, install the samsung drivers ( I downloaded kies mini and it installed them for me, from samsung ) And hook the phone up with usb debugging checked and use the superoneclick, it really is that simple.
Titanium backup is great so you don't have to go and redownload all your apps again, even saves the information, like if you were 8 levels into a game. Very useful app.
3emodd is used to get to the clockwork mod so you can install "roms", since you don't want to do this don't worry about it.
Hope this helped.

[Q] Nook Tablet Flash Question?

Sorry for posting in this section about the nook tablet, but i cant post in that section until i have 10 posts and im a complete noob and dont want to randomly reply to posts trying to sound like i know what im talking about. Anyways, quick question: am i going to lose my flash support on my nook if i root it?
No, flash still works. Rooting will just let you install a new launcher, android market, amazon market, and lots of other things that B&N wont allow you to. You will still have access to the B&N store and apps as well.
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487 . It worked great on mine. Only had a minor issue getting Windows to not auto install drivers so I could use the USB Drivers for root. Also dont be a noob like me, turn off your wireless after your initial registering of the device. My Nook updated to 1.4.1 which broke my root while I was screwing with the USB drivers and before I finished Indirects script and had OTAs blocked. So I had to do it twice
EDIT: Im also working towards 10 posts so I can think Indirect in his thread ;P
thanks man! my root went well. i had the same problem with the drivers but i just decided to use another laptop. thanks for the help
