ESPN 3 - myTouch 4G General

ESPN 3 works really well with this new processor. On the Nexus it was really choppy watching in the browser. The base requirements are 1.5 ghz processor for optimum viewing experience. With the Nexus I would have to overclock 1152, it was better but still choppy.

Isn't that 1.5ghz recommendation based on you watching on a PC though?

Well it doesn't specify browser vs. mobile browser since it technically only supports (former) Windows, Linux, Safari etc. It is still a little choppy on occasion with this processor, but performs much better than the Nexus or EVO while viewing.

When I got to ESPN3 I get the red screen that tells me I have to pick my internet provider for it to work.. if you do so as well what do you select? are you doing this over wifi and selecting your isp, if so is it possible for it to work on network and not wifi?

Are you serious? You can watch espn 3 on this phone?

Yes. choose your internet provider and sign in remote access. If you are watching over wifi and you already have it with your cable company it should give you access right away.

Speed test

Everytime I run a speed test it will change from Modesto being closer to me which is true but sometimes it will say Kansas is closer. Even though kansas is really far. Anybody else experience that?

Yes i Have that problem now. I tried enabling GPS and clearing the data but that did not fix it either.
uninstalling the app did not fix the location problem.
I connected to my home WiFi and it found the sever that was really close to me.

I think its because of how ATT assigns ip addresses. If you do a who is of your ip it will be somewhere far far away from you lol.

Leave it on the main screen for about 3-5 min then after that go to settings and look for the closets server.

Made no difference. It has to be based on ip address and not phone location. Idk.
Edit: just confirmed this. I turned on my WiFi and it found the nearest to me.

How does Speedtest.net know where I am?
Your location is determined based on your IP address. Speedtest.net then uses GeoIP data from MaxMind to determine your approximate location. We have recently added Location-Aware browsing such as this one from Firefox all of which require explicit acceptance by you to better refine your location. All of these services are utilized to better serve you, most importantly determining the optimal testing server from among the hundreds we have available. Learn more about the MaxMind GeoIP data.

Why is my location not recognized?
If you are testing over a Wifi connection your location is determined by the modem's GeoIP information provided by Maxmind's database. Your GeoIP information must be updated with Maxmind's database before the change will be reflected in the application. If you are testing over 3G, 4G, Edge or a similar alternative, GPS is used to determine your location. Be sure you have enabled GPS locating enabled on your mobile device.

This seems to be correct because this app uses GPS when I open it. But it never seems to find my location.
Just connect to wifi, open speed test let it find server, which with my experience will be the closest to you run it once, open server changesettings make sure you selected closest to you, disable wifi and then run. Takes a bit but thats how I always get the server in Las Vegas

You can't shut speed test down use the task manager. Connect like I said make sure you just opened settings. Then while its opened and your in the server you want, push and hold the home button on the bottom and switch to settings. Turn off wifi and then use the task manager again and switch to speed test app and bam there ya go

[REQUEST] Upload Large Videos to YouTube over 4G rather than WiFi

What is the point of the 4G network if I can't use it. First off all the only way I can share my high quality videos is YouTube. Second I can't upload them to YouTube without having WiFi access.
I'm at college where the WiFi signal is horrible so I was wondering if someone had a work around or a hack that could allow me to upload my "large" video to Youtube over 4G (it's less than a minute of 720p recording).
Thanks for any help.
Tether to your laptop and upload it that way.

The dorms here have terrible wifi, they cap the speeds so you might get 3 megabits down/up. ethernet is the same, and they don't let you use your own routers here. some schools are picky.
also just log into youtube, click "mobile setup" and send your videos to the email they give you.

[Q] using phone and TF as a video monitoring system

Is there an app that will allow you to place your phone somewhere and use your TF as a monitor in real time (seeing what the phone's camera sees?
There are plenty of ip webcam apps in the market.

Thank you both very much....I'll check them all out....
Who are you creeping on?
Lol...no creeping...just messing around with my new TF....
I've done this using ipwebcam (from market) running on my nexus one and tiny cam monitor (from market) running on my tf. Works great and quality is pretty decent. I used it to spy on my dog.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That IP Webcam app is decent. Been trying to use it to remotely monitor some newborn puppies. I prefer to just put a password up and use the TF's web browser to view in javascript.
I'd like a way to prolong my phones battery though. The phone gets too hot when plugged in via charger. I tried selecting the option to allow it to switch off the screen, as that gobbles a lot of power. Unfortunately this stops it broadcasting. I have my phone so it keeps the wifi on when the screen is off, but cant find out whether its switching off the camera, the cpu, or what its doing when the screen goes off.
Anyone know of an app to keep things alive when the screen is off please?

I have a linksys web cam that allows me to view on a dyndns site. It's all black in the cam box. It does require activex installation so I don't know if that is the issue with TF browser and if it's possible at all to have add-on.

Did you by any chance download over 5 gigs?? ever thought you might be throttled?? did you get tmo message saying you went over your download limit?? If you did then your download speeds are throttled to 56k until the billing cycle ends.

Don't know why your 4G is slow, but I'm in Hawaii and I too sometimes have horrible 4G connection...BUT, I have found an AWESOME solution for this and not will it only speed up your browsing, you will also extend your battery life and be able to multitask, with live active tabs that will keep streaming video and audio in one window while surfing on another!
The solution is download for free from the market Opera Mini 6 for the FASTEST mobile browsing and if you want Flash videos and live active tabs that will still stream while jumping between tabs download Opera Mobile 11.
Then you can disable 4G and opt only to use 2G, which increases your battery life by up to 4 times, because the Opera browsers renders the web pages server side, thereby speeding up the browsing experience and lessening the data that you would otherwise be using up on your limited or "unlimited" plan.
If you're not familiar with the Award winning Opera mini browser at first you might be appalled that it looks to basic and doesn't support flash (Opera Mobile does support flash videos), but after you learn and get used to the browsers, you'll find that it's the BEST, most refined browser for a mobile device. Period.
Don't forget to enable Turbo mode if you opt to use Opera Mobile, but Opera Mini is still by far the fastest mobile browser on the planet even if you only use 2G. Hope this helps with your slow connection and the G2x horrible battery life.
EDIT: besides setting network to only 2G and using the Opera mobile or mini browser to surf the web, another tweak for even longer battery life is to disable background data. As always you can always enable 4G and background data if you don't care about battery life by downloading the 2g-3g OnOff widget from the market to easily switch between 2g and 4g.
Sounds like you work for Opera.

I was thinking the same thing. damn.
Yeah, I can say so myself that 4G is slow. Using the speedtest app, I get .90/.70 on average. My wifes MT4G, gets an average of 5.60/1.0. I benched the phones on our kitchen table. Ran the speed tests 3 times on each phone. For signal strength, my G2x has 1-2 bars, while the MT4G has full bars.
Edit: and no, im not data throttled.

I've tried Dolphin, it's a nice fancy browser like the stock one and safari, heck I've tried alot of mobile browsers, but the flaw with these "high profile" browsers is that they're not true multitasking browsers.
Yeah they may pretend to look like how it does on a desktop, but the moment you try and open more than one window, you effectively make the others inactive. Not only that, but to really enjoy Dolphin, Skyfire, stock, etc. you NEED to have a good 4G connection, and we all know how much energy 4G sucks out of the battery.
Opera Mobile on the other hand has true desktop mutlitasking experience. You can open many "Windows" and say watch an interview on Youtube on one, then switch to another tab, like say XDA G2x forums and read up on recent updates, while still listening to the interview that's playing on the Youtube window, then when you get bored reading XDA, you can open a 3rd window and search for online radio, all while the other windows are alive and active. All this can be done using 2G because Opera renders pages on their server saving you data usage and giving you sufficient speed on "slower" connections, all this and saving you much needed battery life.
Don't get me wrong I love the other browsers, but until they come up with a fix for the horrible 4G network and update those "high profile" browsers to use less battery, Opera Mobile and Mini are the most well thought browsers meant for mobile use.
EDIT: no I don't work for Opera, I just feel that I've found the perfect solution at the moment for some "flaws" I've discovered with the G2x and Android battery demand, and I just wanted to help out the G2x community to love even more this powerhouse of a phone without having to have battery anxiety and still enjoy a full featured internet experience on a not so fast 4G network.
