[Q] Rmaps issue showing "loading" icon - Android Apps and Games

I created map file with Atlas creator. Used RMaps SQlite format.
Imported it to phone and I see the indication "Loading" and not the map. Tested with 2 different maps. One 300 MB and the other one 30 MB.
I used latest rmaps (0.9.3.1) and MOBAC (1.8) on android 2.1 on Samsung galaxy s.
Any ideas why this is so? Or perhaps test maps I could load or suggested alternative application for offline map browsing?

TOMTOM 5 - No Maps found

Anybody know how to add a map in Tomtom 5?, I have copied Deutschland-Map to my SPV M500 but my Tomtom does not recognize it.
I have tried to modify a file in MyDocuments called "CurrentMap.dat" by way of copy the file on my PC and open it with a notepad. In my case the maps were located on the Storage Card then just insert the path where the maps are located. I.E : \Storage Card\Deutschland-Map\ but still it doesn't work...!! :? Any idea would be highly appreciated..!!!
take the card out soft reset then put the card back in if that doesnt do it try a soft reset with the card in
tomtom map not found
I found this to be a problem also. I've got all the maps on the storage card along side the GREAT BRITAIN map and it doesn't pick them up.
I also tried amending the CURRENTMAP.DAT file to reflect the correct path, but nothing changes. Has anyone else suffered with this that could help us please? as this is getting really frustrating.
yes, this makes frustration as Tomtom5 doesn't pick the extra map like Deutschland, Great Britain, Spain etc etc.
In this case, my standard map is Benelux so after I modify the file called "currentmap.dat" in Tomtom folder like : \Storage Card\Deutschland-Map\, it always returns to Benelux map and no other map options.
Before I changed that file the size was about 31kb, after I changed it became 62kb, however...once I started Tomtom to see whether it picked the Deutschland map, it returned to the original size of 31kb.....****t...!!! (
anyone can help me pleasseee...?
Map Not Found
Hi Guys, i Have had the map not found error a few times, i find its some how deleting this file from my memory card " Great_Britain_Plus.mid " not sure why. Once i put it backin the zip folder all is g00d, think it could be my windows media player adding it to libary en me removing it.. who no's.. hope it helps .. LAterZ
I also meet this problems. Map not found...
any ideas?
map not found
I simpley reinstalled the Tom Tom 5 software and it found the maps straight away!
I found this solution for me.
In each map folder there is a PNA file, e.g. Great_Britain-Map.PNA, this can be opened with notepad.
The last line of this PNA file for the maps that did work no problem were all the same number, 566. So, I opened their PNA file and changed that number to be the same as the maps that did work and bingo. it picked them up.
Give it a go.

USA Maps
I don't have the USA maps for TomTom 5....can anyone help me out!?
Matt
I had this problem when i first used TomTOm
The way i got it working was to install again but make sure you install the benalux map, leave it there then add your own maps.
Once your map is installed and youve ran TomTom, swap to your map then you can remove the benalux map.

Can I create Rmaps from PNG or similar?

I want to use OS maps on my Android device. RMaps seems to be a popular choice for the app but I want to use the 1:25K maps I already have rather than use a tool to download the tiles.
Can I export them from GlobalMapper and get them into a format for RMaps? I've searched extensively and it looks like RMaps wants a SQLite format. I can export from GlobalMapper in various formats including PNG but I can see no way of turning this into something RMaps camn handle.
Any advice on conversion, or a more suitable (free or cheap) app appreciated.
Thanks.
Creating maps for Rmaps
Hi
Rmaps can support a format called 'mnm', as well as SQlite. It does mention this on the rmaps site, but some of it is in russian, so a bit confusing!
(Sorry, I'm also a new user, so can't post links. If you google "welcome to rmaps" you should find the page).
I've outlined the conversion process below:
If you can open your maps in global mapper you should be able to export them as 'geotiff's, which can be converted to mnm maps using a program called 'map nav editor'.
From the rmaps site there is a link to download that program. I downloaded it yesterday fine, but today there seems to be a problem with the other site.
The file I download is "mapnaveditor_59.7z", I googled 'mapnaveditor_59.7z android' and found the same file.
It seems map nav editor only excepts geotiffs with 'mercator' projection. I set this in global mapper before exporting the maps - Tools > configure > Projection tab > projection.
Open the tiff file in map nav editor ('select map to convert') and it should export it as a mnm file and mno file.
The resulting mnm file can then be used with Rmaps, in the same way sqlite maps are used.
The first time the map is used with Rmaps it will be indexed. This took a while on the maps I converted, but afterwards the maps worked fine.
That is how I converted my maps to use with Rmaps. It's not very difficult to do, but I bit of a nuisance when you have a lot of maps to convert. If anyone knows of a better program than Rmaps, I would also be interested.

Hope you can follow what I said - I've only converted a few maps, so I'm not sure if it's the optimum way of doing it.
I have found that it doesn't seem to make any difference assembling the mno and mnm files together, just using the original mnm file seems to work fine. (I've edited my first post).
There doesn't seem to be a clear guide on the rmaps site and I don't know exactly what the two types are for. There are some instructions on the rmaps site for converting a mno file to mnm, but I don't know why this would be necessary.

Thanks for the update, I tried one of my 1:25K maps and it took a while so I left it overnight but the first step certainly worked. I had to abort the mno/mnm merge as I left for work the next working so didn't get to test properly. I intend to have another go this w/e when I have a bit more time.
If it works out I'll try to get the process listed on the rmaps site.
I have had good results using the Globalmapper->Geotiff, Geotiff->SQLLite approach. I have been able to get my 1:25 Memory Maps into Rmaps and the GPS is getting the position on the map just perfect.
The only thing I want to try to improve is the zoom level in Rmaps. On Max zoom I'm still one level of detail away from where I would like to be. I believe I'm using the max levels (6) in Mobile Map Creator but need to have a look at the options to see if it can be improved.
Big thanks again to Aled99 for all the help.
rmaps
hi there sounds like I'm doing a similar thing, I'm using global mapper to create ecw maps then compegps land 7 to converted ecw to rmap, ready to use with twonav, android
note when making ecw in global mapper you can set export to current screen pixel size/zoom as long as your map has original detail.

[Q] Downloading all zoom levels to OMM cache

Ok, so I downloaded Open Mobile Maps to my phone, and I must say it's fantastic. The only issue is that my phone doesn't have a GSM/3G/whatever internet connection since I can't afford one, so I need to be able to have maps for the area I'm going to in cache. The problem is, I need all zoom levels in cache for about a 20 square mile area. Is there a way for me to do this?
You may want to check out "Mobile Atlas Creator":
- Start on a PC, no installation required
- Select coordinates
- Map Source: e.g. Open Street Map (Mapnik)
- Atlas Content: add a map name to atlas
- Format: OSMTracker tile storage
- Settings: All default, just set Map output directory
- after finishing, copy all "number" directories to ommcache

Google Maps - GPS - Caching for local use

Is there a surefire way to download maps so the transformer does not need to be wifi/tethered to run this as a stand alone GPS?
I ran across this, anyone used it?
Brut Google Maps 4.6.0.4686-brut17
Not tried that one you mention but this one works great.
Cheers. Just tried that and found it very good. Even has a map with local bus route overlays.

I couldn't find a way to tell it to download the maps in full only small squares.
I had downloaded it on my droid x and it worked great. But it won't download maps to the transformer... My apologies.
Another way..

Hi, You dont say if you have an android phone, BUT if you had a rooted HTC Desire. (am sure it would work with any other htc that has car panel). (my sig says the one im using).
You could do the following;
Either Download a free app from the android market called "OntheflyBackup" run the app and you will now have the "Navigation app" and the "CarHomeLauncher app" and backups of all your other programs so its a win win situation. Or if your winrar savvie just extract the files from a Rom.
Now;
1, Run "Carpanel" app on the phone.
2 Select Get More, and download the maps you want (wifi enabled for speed)
3, Open the sd card either through data link or removing the card from the phone. Look in the folder ".data" you will see a folder "navigator"
4, Now copy this folder to a new ".data" folder on the "Internal" Sd card you acn see in the file explorer on the transformer. It must be in this one and Not the external Sd card.
5, Copy the "Navigation app" and the "CarHomeLauncher app" to downloads or any other folder on the card. placed in the Transformer.
6, On the Transformer, install the two apps and then run "Navigation". The car panel Wont look the same as on the phone It dosnt have the get more button, But will allow you to Navigate to anywhere on the maps you have selected.
Ive tried this from the UK to a area in Germany and it worked for me.

Thanks,
Unfortunately I have symbian phone - hope to get an android phone soon, but just don't use anything but email and calender as far as a "smart phone". And right now I have 15/month unlimited data plan. If I switch to a "smart phone" then ATT will hit me for large data plan.
Oruxmaps enables you to view online maps from many sources including Google Maps.
It will also let you define a location and surrounding area and it will then cache all the Google Maps tiles (or any other service's tiles) to your SD card. You can even define several zoom levels to store for each area.
It does a lot more than just that and is free on the market.

[Q] Sygic. New maps in older versions

I searched almost everywhere for a solution.
I have the Huawei U8800pro with official ICS. I use Sygic a lot. My problem is the maps.
I use cracked versions. When I find a version that works well with my phone (not all are) I get stuck with outdated maps. I tried to download updated maps with the map downloaders but Sygic can not recognize them. I put them in the maps folder, nothing. I rename them, nothing. I can't seem to find a way to get them to work with older version.
Is there a way to get the new maps to work with an older version?
I'm searching the same. Do you find any solution?
Is anybody found solution for above. We use old version of Sygic as interface and serching is good and fast. In new versions, it takes lot of time to search the desired location as well as it crashes frequently.
bump.
to this day the best version is still 14.3.x, mostly due to custom POI sound notification. Anyone found a solution?
yes there is a solution and i have implemented it successfully. download Sygic versions 14.0.1 and 15.3.3 which are of old and new interface respectively.
1. Install the new version i.e. 15.3.3 and download the desired maps.
2. Now copy the files inside the folder containing the maps e.g. sygic/maps/abc.tr.2015.03 . Copy the files inside the folder map.tr.2015.03 and keep them in a separate folder outside of sygic folder.
3. Now uninstall the new version and install the older version i.e. 14.0.1.
4. Now again download the same maps which you downloaded previously.
5. Now again go in the maps folder (sygic/maps) and you will see that the downloaded maps are not the latest maps which you downloaded with the new version because the name of the folder containing the map files will be different e.g. sygic/maps/abc.tr.2011.02. Previously it was abc.tr.2015.03 and now it is abc.tr.2011.02.
6. Now replace the files in abc.tr.2011.02 with files you copied from the folder abc.tr.2015.03.
(IMPORTANT THING IS THAT DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF THE FOLDER. LET IT REMAIN AS abc.tr.2011.02.)
7. Now run the sygic and you will see that it will have new maps in the older version.

the truth is i dont know about greek maps or tomtom maps. i just know the maps that i downloaded from sygic maps manager in settings. i am from pakistan and it worked perfectly. maybe you are changing the folder names. you are not suppose to change folder names. old folder name in old sygic (14.0.1) with new files inside and not the complete map folder only the folder with country maps files inside. and yes it does not work with every version. with me it only worked with mentioned versions 15.3.3 files in 14.0.1. do not try any other version. thankyou
So, the maps are compatible betweeen different versions of Sygic, that is pretty good. But even if the software/user interface is running, is it possible that newer maps include more featureas and therefor require more hardware?
For instance tomtom has different maps for low spec devices and high spec devices, so even having a very old gps device you can have updated maps.
Does Sygic deliver light weight and heavy weight maps?
