I am looking for an Android player that is pretty simple but i do not see why its so hard to find?
All I want is something that lets me play MP3's.. that does not scan the entire device (ringtones always seem to show up and I dont want them to)
something that kinda roots itself on the SD Card in a folder like "Music"
with a nice home screen
AND
somethign that will resume the next time it's open. for some reason the media player that comes with my Captivate seems to wants me to start all over when i dont use it for 30 min or so..
simple?
thanks for the advise

PowerAMP. It's in the market, and has a really nice EQ setup in addition to what you're talking about. It's in beta right now.

thank you, Downloading and testing this now. I will keep you posted on my impression!
There is one in alpha
Try this one. It pulls data in from the music folder and allows for pause, fast forward and rewind. However it is still in alpha...
Meridian player has most of the features you are after such as Folder browsing and resuming Videos. Plus it has decent widget also

+1 for Power Amp
Player pro does the folder playing and is very simple, got some nice widget aswell
MortPlayer is another nice light alternative that meets your criteria. There is also a version of MortPlayer specifically for audiobooks that allows you to make bookmarks in your sound files.
I actually use both PowerAMP and MortPlayer: PowerAMP for general music listening and it's very pretty UI, and MortPlayer for listening to long recordings of lectures so that I can consistently come back to where I left off.

Hi,
I would like to know which music player is best for playing music on HD?
I looking for someone good player as Ipod or as build on sence, good-looking and have good management also..
Please give me some tips..
THX
I prefer Kinoma Play.
Others you can try are Nitrogen, S2P, Pocketplayer, Mortplayer, Pocketmusic.
I use Kinoma Free Play. It's really good.
Nitrogen
Nitrogen is the best player!

Looking good but there you can play lot off thing's i wont only for music for rest i have coreplayer but picasa upload ets not bad too..
Big fan op pocketplayer here...
Kinoma Play by far....
I more and more like the built in HTC music player.
To my mind, mort player ist the best. wvga is supported by many skins it's got mp3 alarm (that works), mp3 and ogg support and it is freeware.
here is the dl:
http://mortplayer.softonic.de/pocketpc
I found S2P and this is not so bad..
I used to use Nitrogen but started to get pauses in the playback for a couple of seconds at a time. With Nitrogen installed these occurred in both the built in Music Player and Nitrogen itself. As soon as I removed it though these pauses also disappeared. Now I use the built in Music Player until I find something better that is also finger friendly.
I would like to ask, which player can support AVRCP on HD2?
Nowadays i get back to buld-in music player.. I didn't found any player to be better..
Probably a stupid question but can I still access the built in htc music player if I have SPB shell installed?
Also, why is Kinoma player described as Free? I thought it was a program you have to pay for?
If you want the best equalizer (you have to pump up the low frequencies in order to get a good bass), best bass level (the best for Rock and Metal music) and a very good UI, you should go for Pocket Player. It has tons of functions (playlists and a lot more organizing functions) and it's the most function oriented music player. It works perfectly with the headset (its buttons) when you install the WMP plugin (something you don't get with the other players) . If you use it combined with the AudioBooster of the phone, the sound will be perfect.
But if you want something simple to use, use PocketMusic (the equalizer is horrible, but the bass booster is very good) or Nitrogen. MortPlayer isn't bad. But it can be difficult to use and it's a heavy program.
So there you have it.

There's a free version called "Kinoma Free Play". It works great for music with no real limitations (except for upgrade ads at startup).
nitrogen is very basic, but does the job. PocketPlayer is without a doubt the best player out there though.
Thanks Nsider
I've tried it now and kinoma keeps hanging when it's scanning through my media on the storage card so I've not actually been able to test it. It's the same video it gets stuck on so I could remove it I guess but not much use if that happens whenever there is a file it doesn't like.
Tried Pocket Player and while it looks like it'd do the job ok it seems REALLY slow to run & respond. Any reason why this would be?
Pocket Player is slow at the first time you run it. Because it searches for your MP3 files and it makes an index of them. Therfor it is slow only for 3-5 minutes. After that, it's very fast and smooth. If you have a class 2 memory card, install Pocet Player on your device memory.

Builtin HTC media player in my books, could do with a few tweaks tho, like search/letters down the side. On Coverflo the albums should be ordered alphabetically. Other than that its perfect! I have about 14gb worth of music and it handles it perfectly.
Other than that, I would also go with PocketPlayer, its really good, loved using that on my Diamond.
double twist media player is out in market now! very nice UI. id say best looking player we have so far
btunes > double twist
It's stupid that you need their syncing software to add media. They don't even support linux
U dont. I just unchekd "auto USB drive" in settings, and it found all my songs.
it seems ok but I prefer 3 (cubed), I think its prettier ^^
Killer feature though is that when skipping through a track you can grab the position indicator and drag up the screen to change sensitivity just like on the iPhone. That and that alone makes this the best player for me.
Bring on an EQ and I will rejoice!
I think the best players are: 3, Nemo, and this. Anyone of them can be considered pretty.
I just discovered this music mod for the default music player.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690180
just installed it and I have to say its pretty.
My main player is 3 but I think i'll stick with this music mod.
DoubleTwist doesn't hold a candle to cacheinjection's stock music mod. Not even a flicker of a candle.
It would be great if it could sync with my Google Listen subscriptions fron Google Reader

the only reason for why i dont like 3 (cubed) is that it doesnt have the option to show the list of song titles

yes it does. menu - view - boring, then pick the artist/album and the song list pops up
I use Meridian. The only player that lets you browse by directories, and the only player that supports some other languages for song titles. I dont like playlists
Can someone post the APK for doubleTwist? I'm currently in asian and a TON of apps don't appear in the market.
Thanks in advance
The only issue I have with doubletwist is that it doesn't let me point it at a specific directory, and for some reason it makes and keeps it's own media library xml.
So far no problems here, for me the app is working perfect and love how quick it loads up the videos an I have 100's of them

what i mean is showing all the song titles like the stock music app
DoubleTwist player lists your audio that's on the microSD card that's in \alarms, \ringtones, \notifications folders.
Very annoying if you have a lot of ringers.
Stock music app doesn't list those folders.
Hi all
Im kind of new in this operative system and i'm getting used to it, but I can't specify a Music folder.
Each time I start any mp3 player app, it plays my music and many game sound files that I don't want to hear.
Is there any way to select which folders must these apps search?
Thank you very much in advance and sorry for my stained english!
The stock music player is not that great. I recommend poweramp, which is on the market. It can do almost everything you want from a music player.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz
Another recommendation for Poweramp.
Stock Music Players don't look beyond the default folder and this is where Apps such as Poweramp come into their own, you can customize it to look for other music stored on your phone or sd card.
It also has a graphics equalizer and you can boost the sound to play louder from the PreAmp list.
tinyPlayer - for playing music from folders. Basic, small (60 kb), efficient - my favorite.

Go with Poweramp and you will not regret it. It has the ability to play from folders, organize all your music for you and does it on the phone without using some of the more annoying apps out there!
just create a file called .Nomedia and place it in every folder you dont want to show up in the music app.
well, if you're like me, and you think 5 dollars is highway robbery for a music app, then look into something a bit more simple. I don't actually like doubletwist, but for someone new to android - it's cool because it actually syncs itunes to android as well as acts as a audio/video player (most players will solve your folder issue).
Poweramp is one of these really "I have everything" apps like Handcent SMS (an alternate text messaging app that everyone dies for, when there are plenty of equal or better options out there). Fact is, there are plenty of apps that have what you are looking for. Enjoy the market place, and read reviews. You'll find tons. My guess is since you didn't look there immediately, you probably are feeling overwhelmed and not using your android to its full extent yet. Forums are a great place to start. You'll also quickly realize that "which music player is best" is bound to get a bunch of people in twister - this month it's poweramp, next month it will be __________.
So after some testing I really like using my Thunderbolt for Pandora, but not too sure about trading it out for my ipod...the ipod seems to give better output, as I have to crank it up to about 50 to match a volume level of 38-40 on my ipod. Even at that the vocals are struggling and the bass seems to drown it out a bit even with the bass turned all the way down. This may not be a TB issue but maybe a player issue (I use Poweramp Unlocked version). While Poweramp is nice its not exceptional. At this point I am not sure what to do as I would like to use Google Music instead of iTunes, but I am not sure if its ipod compatible or how big of a hassle is. I am hoping a really nice music player will come out soon...what do you guys think?
I was very unhappy with the default music player.
I would suggest getting doubleTwist, I find it to be waaaaay better than the default. And after you try out the free version, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the paid version with AirSync. It offers an iTunes like interface that can wirelessly (and pretty amazingly and bug free) sync music to your phone over your wifi network.

I was very very interested in this, and now that you mention it I will try it out. The reason I didn't try it was because of all the bad comments on it in the market, but those are always a bit hard to trust anyways, I will definitely give it a shot
I'm a music geek. I have to have all of my music in 320 mp3 or lossless. And I hqvent experienced low quality with poweramp and volume plus. Just make sure you have the eq off.

Give Google Music a try. It's spectacular! I uploaded 6,000+ songs from my iTunes library and now listen (with excellent quality) on my TB. Important note: I uploaded the songs from my Music folder not my iPod. I have not tried uploading from an iPod, although that is offered as an option in the Google Music Manager. Let us know how it works.

Tried google music but 225 of my songs weren't transferred for some DRM problem, even though they are all paid for music. It looks like I will be going back to my ipod. The sound quality is just no where near my ipod when it comes to car stereo. Still turning my music a good 15+ up than with my ipod. Also, for some reason after about 20 minutes of listening the music just suddenly gets quieter...this is a huge problem and I have no idea what it is
Hi all, I am looking for a music app that's easy on battery.
Criteria: Must work without media scanner
I have disabled media scanner, so literally all music apps I got from market can't seem to pick up my audio files. One works -- Music Folder Player Donate. I am looking for something like it, that reads based on folders, or scans music internally, rather than relying on media scanner.
This app is all nice, but it is missing navigation controls in notification dropdown. I am looking for a music app that would provide me these controls too. I am not too particular on lock screen music controls.
Have you tried PlayerPro?
How about mort player, has a nice widget too. I personally use power amp. But i feel mort is just as good. And free.
I would first like to try a free one, n then can upgrade. And then it should be easy on battery too.
Edit: Mort is packed with so many features for a free app!!!
The trick is that you need to check if the player supports GAPLESS playback. Most do *not*. So any live stuff, albums that blend songs together (Pink Floyd is notorious for this) will get a nice annoying pause in between songs that was never intended to be there. Even if some claim they are gapless they in practice are not (believe nothing, test everything). The app needs to actually trim any small dead spot at the end or you will get a click or pop at the end of songs.
The only player I found that does this successfully is Power Amp but there could be others, I just haven't found them yet.

My main criteria is low processor usage when to maximize battery.
Mort is good. Of the time I had the player on and screen off, it was on 200 for about 90% of time. CPU foreground was only 14s for about 47 mins of usage.
