Samsung i5800 (Galaxy 3) Any way to open/replace the cover? - General Questions and Answers

Hi xda-team and users...
recently i bought a real cheap i5800 on ebay. it works like a charme. there is only one problem (probably the reason of cheap selling):
there is some dirt under the display :-| i can live with it when i have to but when there is an opinion.
its there any way to open the cover and clean the display?
or can i get another cover (maybe the "dirt" is on the cover-side and not directly on the display)
someday i saw a replace cover for my old 5230. maybe there is one for the 5800 (tried google and ebay but i didnt found one).
another idea was to buy this:
xxxx://cgi.ebay.com/New-Samsung-I5800-Dummy-Display-Mobile-Phone-Toy-/200539469221?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2eb11575a5
and try to open it and replace the original phone cover with the dummy parts. i know nothing about touchscreens (i am an electrician but in another sector) thats my problem.
maybe any1 here can help me with some information.
thx in advance.
Malte41

Just for you to know: i open the case/cover and cleand the touchscreen. It was not that hard as i expected. If any1 need some help with opening i do it again and make some pics for a guide. Just msg me.

- Updated :
After 5+ hours I successfully replaced back cover and front cover too - As service manual is totally GAY and useless for this, I had to experiment - LCD and touch screen does hold to front cover by glue :-( ... and at grey plast what cover LCD and what is the last visible part at GAY useless service manual - you have tu use little force to make it out and dont be affraid of damage it ... .

Touchscreen doesn't work

Hi,
The thouchscreen doesn't work. I've doa a hard reset, flashed a fresh rom, but stil doesn't work. The phone did't fell, just stoped working suddenly. It responds to the keyboard, but not to the touchscreen. Do you have any ideas about this? Thanks
most likely the digitiser has failed - if its under warrenty get a RMA & send it back. If not, check ebay for a digitiser (if you're less able to repair delicate parts get a screen & digitiser together) or if you really hate/cant/dont want to take it apart some places will replace it for you (either in a store, or online - send it off, comes back fixed!).

I had the same problem. I returned it to AT&T Repair Center and they replaced the phone (under warranty). No mistreatment...it just stopped working after about 8 months.
touchscreen dead
Thanks.
I dont't have warranty, so I ordered a digitizer+lcd. Does anyone have some instructions for me to repair it? The "dismantle guide" I've seen is not very clear on the screen issue.
By the way, do you recomend any online repair service? It's tough to live without my Touch Pro ....
Cant recomend any particular repair center (and you dont say where you are - so wouldnt want to suggest one overseas!) however, i would guess most would want to supply & fit the parts (and you have already ordered).
That said.... Taking things like this apart isnt "too" tricky (yeah, i dismantle stuff for a living as well as a hobby so slightly less phased i know).
The main thing is never rush the job. If it takes you 2 days to take apart & 2 more to rebuild it - so what. Make sure you have a clear work station / desk (so you dont lose screws etc) and have space to put things down. Access to the web is often useful, as is printing out the guide / pics (if you're not near the pc).
From the wiki - Russian - but the pics are good or Mike Channon's service guide mirror - the instructions look great.
Always use the correct tools (phones are often T6 torx screws - but the service guide says its philips 00*50 - so make sure you have!) and some plastic pry/lever is normally essential (dont use a screwdriver / knife / piece of metal etc etc - you will break or damage something)
Good luck!

looks like you don't understand the word "disassemble". It is the opposite of "assemble" i,e. to break down the thing apart. to remove the inner parts separately. It's nothing to do with going back to original ROM.
If I'm not wrong, this guy has two spoiled XT720 sets which he want to take out and put together as a good one.

nope
I just want to replace digitalizer from my LCD because right part of touchscreen isn't working on my XT
ehhhhh sorry, bad translation from google translate jejeje
O yes, i'm interested in this topic, i want to see some information about disassemble guide. I hope some one have it.
mainly you need to unscrew 6 screws. here's the list
-beside camera lens, covered with rubber cap.
-under 8.0 Xenon label.
- two screws above battery. (visible when you remove the battery cover)
- two screws partially hidden under speaker grills. (also need to remove battery cover to see)
the most difficult part will be the two at the bottom under that speaker grills. You'll need to remove the speaker grills to be able to remove the screws and it can be damaged in the process.
Did someone allready managed to get a disassembly guide in his hands? I just dropped my XT last night, and the camera doesnt work now any more. I purchased my one in Germany but I´m in Australia for half a year now and dont think that the repair centers can help me here, as this phone has never been released in Australia.

Here down my problem was...
Hi, friends. I have got dust in front camera of my phone. It had happened three three months before also, but at that time had got it done as only two day of warranty were there. But now it has happened again. So I thought to try to open my phone. I opened seven screws from back side. But i can not open inner back cover as volume button and lock button are attached with it through holes. So need help if anyone have tried before and have opened the phone before. I searched on google also to find proper answer but i didn't get. I found manual of our phone but there was nothing about hardware. If i can open inner back cover and can remove dust by my self. I think if i can solve it by my self and don't have to pay money to sammy as i find that they some times take much money. So if anyone can help here before I need to go to sammy.

Theres dust in your front cam glass means your touch screen glass has slightly come off near the front cam. Try to just pull out a little bit.. N insert a ear bud... Yess a ear bud to wipe the dust off. And then a couple of adhesive drops will stick the screen back.
It had happened to me.. N this is what i did.

@nitinvaid:- Thanx, typing "disassembling galaxy sl i9003" helped me a lot. Even i got all types of maual for hard-ware and soft ware base. Almost every stuff related with our phone both hardware and software....
@chinmay_7d:- I didn't get this "your touch screen glass has slightly come off near the front cam"... I cleared the dust with ear buds..
After all I did it my self. However it is quiet risky and one needs to be very care-full. One can brick his\her phone and divide it into little stone. I got one little crack on inner back cover but i will solve it and i got an ic loose which i had to attach with tap and cotton. However i got to know very much about the spar-parts. I am think of making this thread base on hardware help with all manuals available.....What do u say guys??? Should I or not.

[Q] self-replacing a broken digitizer

Hi everyone,
My friend's got an HTC explorer which he dropped recently (probably) breaking the touch screen digitizer. It boots up fine until the lockscreen but touch doesn't work. Unless high pressure is applied in which case the small wheel thing(stock ROM) moves ever so slightly but still not enough to unlock..
The part seems to be easily available online (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Explorer-Screen-Digitizer-Mobile-Replacement/dp/B007TGXVYA) but I'm not sure if I can replace this myself, having zero experience opening a phone, except an old nokia 6233 once. So what do you guys say, should I buy one and replace it myself or get it done outside for double the cost?
P.S. This is where I would refer to for opening the device. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFtdxiX6YSM
Thanks!
go for it and replace it yourself. it's very easy. that video was very helpfull for me too.
you'll have to be carefull with flat bands at 1:15-1:22. also be carefull at 2:35 when display is removed.
you have to order (if notincluded with digitizer) a double adhesive band to use it between digitizer and phone body. there already is some sticky material but after removal of broken one (I managed to do it with an old sim card sharpened on sandpaper)you'll have to remove the remains and replace it with new one (double adhesive band becouse you don't have that kind of material)
I used something like this (of course not all of it )
LE: actually if you order from amazon or elswere you'll get THIS . the real name

Broken touchscreen

Hello dear community, my dreadiest fear just realized today :
my X2 decided to make one with the concrete...
luckily, both with my heart, only the touchscreen shattered from this unholy union.
So now I want to replace only the broken thing (less expensive) with a replacement part I found on aliexpress (25 € for those wandering), BUT I was unable to find any clue about the separation of the LCD and the touchscreen :
Are they inextricably bound together as the galaxy S series are ?
Or are they just attached with some tape as any good reparable phone should be ?
I was also wandering whether the screen parts were the same between the X1 and the X2 !
If you have any material showing how to proceed with the separation, and care to share them, I'd be in your dept forever !!
Boujou bien !

The disassembly should be the same as the X1 video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NOG1SISbKw
Yes I have seen this video, but it is only showing the removing of the screen/touchscreen from the phone, not the separation of the LCD from the touchscreen (they are both broken in the video, hence no point to mess with them !)

They are fused together so it's not even worth trying to remove them. 99.99% of the time you won't be successful.
Good to know !
I almost succeeded once, with a heated bench, But I'm not willing to try that again…
Did you have to fix yours already ? Any clue about backward compatibility with the X1 assembly (20 % cheaper !) ?

I imagine they would be the same display assembly but I'm not 100 percent sure.
I Sat on my Huawei honor X2 -Screen is not working Properly
Hello (posted this in wrong area a few weeks ago)
I sat on my X2 GEM-703L under several pillows - bend was 1/2 inch - the top & bottom were 1/2 inch lower than center . I carefully bent it straight (there is a small kink in metal frame right side just above center button. Everything else seems to work beside the screen. *** I will push "4" and the key adjacent character is recognized, also it will type on its own or type 3-5 characters when I only pushed one...
Questions:. Does this sound like touch screen Replacement will fix these issues??? Or is thier additional interface hardware attached with the touch screen, or both?
- I really like that phone - hoping it is not a lost cause...
Thanks for your help

Hello Gary, sorry just saw your post.
I Think this might be fixed by a change of screen, but the problem might also come from the bent frame too.
For the tactile to work properly, and not register wrong input, the screen needs to be grounded and I think also calibrated to the phone caracteristics. If you just replace the screen, it's environment would not be the same as it is suppose to be anymore (frame with a kink) hence there is a risk that the new screen might reacts weirdly, registering ghost input etc... Because the screen might not rest flat on the support frame, and the contacts used for grounding might not be working anymore.
I have a spare screen that I*just bought for mine, unfortunately my problem seems to come from the motherboard, so the screen is useless for me.
If you want to give it a try, and live in the US, pm me !
If you don't want to do it (the screen comes without a frame, so you have to use your old one)
I'm willing to buy your phone to try to save mine !
Best,
Quentin.
