Moving EXT partition data to a new SD card - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi all,
Hope this is the forum for this question, if not - sorry!
I purchased a new and larger SD card, my old SD has 50% FAT32 partition and the rest as EXT partition.
Most of my applications are installed by default to the EXT.
Is there a way to move all the EXT partition data to the new SD??
I looked all over but couldn't find a way.
Thanks,
JB

[Q] Link2SD and Partitions

I have an HTC Hero rooted with stock 2.1 firmware
I installed Link2SD and read through the development post on this forum but encountered and issue I cannot figure out how to resolve.
I reformatted my SD card with 2 primary partitions using MiniTool. I re-sized my standard partition to allow for an additional 400MB partition then formatted the unallocated memory to ext3 format.
So now I have 2 partitions that look like this in MiniTool (4GB SD card):
Partition FileSystem Size Status Type
-SDCard FAT32 3.30GB Active Primary
-AppsPartition ext3 400.06MB None Primary
(sorry cant get more spaces between words, dont use forums often)
I thought that was all I needed to do but when I put the SD Card into my Hero it just tells me I have a damaged SD Card. What do I do to fix this?
I just wanted to say I figured this out on my own. I don't know what the problem was but I reformatted the SD card from the Hero and it only formatted the SDCard partition and then I had to reformat the AppsPartition to FAT32 file system in order to be usable by link2sd and it worked.
No idea what caused the problem to begin with but got it resolved, that's all that matters right?
I had problems too until I formatted partition 1 as FAT (aka FAT16 - NOT FAT32), and the second as FAT32 or Ext2/3.
The key for me was the first partition being FAT.

Micro SD Card repartioning

So i was looking through 4Ext touch's recovery menu and i saw an option in tools to check for sd card partition alignment so i did and according to that the sd card partitions were not properly aligned (whatever that means) so i backed up the data on my sd card and went to repartition it and now it's asking me to choose a partition size for the 1st and 2nd partition plus the swap. I have no idea what to put, i have a 32gb class 10 sd card. Can someone please explain to me what does this whole sd card partition alignment means and what should i choose?
We dont need to partition SD card for inspire. It is for devices will less ROM space, where you partition SD card and use it as phone storage. So just delete all partitions, and just have one.

[Q] SD CARD Partion

Good morning all !!!!
I have done an ample amount of reading and I am still confused by the topic a little bit. And the post I came across were rather old. I just bought a 32G micro SD card for my galaxy s 4g running (wicked rom 9.1). This rom finally has the ability to move apps to SD. My question is, is it really necessary to partition your SD card for any reason??? What are the benefits? I still do not get he concept. I can only find the ways to do it. but not the reason.
*BUMP*
so.... I still did a bunch of reading, and did a SD card wipe attempted the 2nd partition and using link2sd and seems that the 2nd partition is not being recognized? can someone point me in the right direction?
Partitioning the SD card!
Actually, partitioning gives you the benefit of using space in your SD Card to install apps or use app data, instead of cramming it all up in the phones' internal memory. In other words, the Second Partition acts as the internal memory of the phone. So creating a 1 GB partition for a device with low internal memory allows the user to install more apps and doesn't let the internal memory decrease.
Link2SD can only accept partition with the proper scripts, i.e if the SD card has been partitioned with Ext2 then Link2SD must also be given the command for creating scripts as Ext2.
It is usually recommended to partition SD as Ext2 or Ext3 and create scripts on Link2SD as the same.
Hope it helped :good:

[Q] Internal Storage and SD Card Formatting

Hi all.... I haven't found specific answers to my questions so am posing them here.
I am running CM11
Can you expand your internal storage without doing an entire ext sd card to internal swap? I want to use only part of my ext SD card to enhance the internal storage.
Is there any point in formatting multiple partitions on the ext SD card as fat32 / ext4 / Linux swap anymore? I thought doing this would have part of the partition used for internal storage and part as the ext sd card storage. Formatting the SD card through CWM deletes all partitions and formats it all as FAT32 for external storage only.
Thanks and go Blaze haha

You can partition your SD card on your pc into pieces that android won't recognize..follow this as a guide..the program is fantastic

Thanks ink. I will look at this more tonight but I did use Partition Wizard Home and formatted the first partition as FAT32 which is recognized as the external SD card1 in CM11 but the 2nd EXT4 partition isn't recognized by the ROM it seems. Maybe I just don't know how it would be used but checking the storage in settings didn't have any change to internal.

[Q] Partitions Issue

Hello, I'm having a little issue with partitions, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Ace with Mardon's modded CM11 (nightly build 20140326), and with a 4GB SD card. Since I instaled CWM 6, I can't do any partitions through CWM, so I installed MiniTool Partition Wizard to make them, I formatted the phone an the SD card completely, and I created an ext2 partition (3GB for SD card, and the rest of the space for the partition), but now I get a lot of issues on my phone, for example, Link2SD is showing 3 different partitions, SD Card, External SD Card, Ext Partition, when previously I just had SD Card and the partition.
Also, Total Commander shows 3 folders on the main screen, 2 of them are "SD-card" and "Sd-Card(3)", they have the same free space, and the same files inside of them. The first SD Card directory is /storage/sdcard0, and the third one is /mnt/media_rw/sdcard0.
So, how do I get it to work like it was before? I want just one SD-card folder
(And this still happens if I set the ext partition size to 512 or less, so I don't think that matters)
Thanks for the help, and I apologize if what I wrote doesn't make sense, English is not my main language.
(Also, here's some pics of Total Commander, Link2SD and the MiniTool)

I actually don't quite understand your issue here, but I think MiniTool partition wizard does help.

Basically, my phone shows a "SD card" folder, an "Ext SD Card" folder and the partition folder, but the "SD Card" and "Ext SD Card" have the same content, and the same free space, I just want to delete the "Ext SD Card" folder from my phone, so it only shows the "SD Card" folder, however, in MiniTool Partition Wizard, I only have the SD Card and the ext partition, so I don't know how to erase the "Ext SD Card" folder from the phone.
You can see it on the screenshots, total commander shows 3 main folders, two of them are the same folder, but with different names (1 and 3), and Link2SD shows them as "SD Card" and "Ext SD Card", with the same free space.
I just want the phone to show the SD Card folder and the partition folder, not an "Ext SD Card" folder, like it was before.
Also, if I don't know if this helps but, the SD cards directory are /storage/sdcard0 for SD Card and /mnt/media_rw/sdcard0 for Ext SD Card
