Gtab will support up to 32gb microsd. so yes 16gb will work just fine, this is what I am currently using as I don't want to pay around $100 for a 32gb card. I am using a 16gb class 4 (Patriot memory) and it works really well, I have also tested a 16gb class 2 (SanDisk) and I really don't see any difference in the feel or performance. I assume that higher class would be faster data transfer but haven't had any issues with a class 2 or 4 yet (I keep my music library on SD2).
I purchased a couple of those from NewEgg. That manufacturer has given me NOTHING but problems with their SDHC cards.
Just an FYI

They also have the Patriot Class 4 might just go with that 30 cheaper....
What were the problems you were having with the a-data?

I have an OEM 32GB Sandisk microSD, and it works just fine in the device (so far).
As for ADATA, I have a relationship with them now which I will pass on... in 2008, my wife had gotten me a Class 6 16GB SDHC by ADATA, it had a "lifetime limited" warranty. Last July, I started using it pretty heavily in my Pandgital Novel, a LOT of remove / reinserts as I was testing mods on it. It quickly disintegrated (literally, the outer case fell apart - I have never seen anything like it).
So, I called them. Several times. At first they weren't going to honor the warranty as they claimed it was unusual wear and tear. But, I was persistent and slightly irate at points ("I will never buy from you again, and neither will anyone in Slatedroid!") and they eventually caved and gave me an RMA. It was a long process but my replacement card is now on its way to my home. So, in the end, they did honor the warranty but "the squeaky wheel gets the oil", as the saying goes.
Very insightful..Thanks for the replies..Won't know till I am there.Might just get a 32gb and be done with it...At work and can't wait to get off so I can root this thing...

Just a reminder (its been pointed out in this forum and many others), but you're wasting your money on a "faster" class micro sdhc card for use in a g-tablet. The higher class cards are all with respect to WRITE speeds. You also need special hardware to take advantage of the faster write speeds. Usually fast writing hardware is only found in expensive digital SLR cameras. If your device doesn't mention the ability to make use of the faster write speeds then a class 2 card will perform identically to a class 6 card, etc.
I am 95% sure that Adata makes the cards that Micro Center sells cheap, under their name.
With that in mind, I have bought many MicroSD(HC), SD(HC), and USB flash drives over the years from them, and had a few fail. However, they have a lifetime warranty on them too, and all I have to do is take it to the store, and they replace it on the spot. No receipt, nothing.
They don't have a 32GB MicroSDHC card yet, but I am eagerly waiting for them to so I can get one. Best they got for now is a 16GB for $24.
Like roebeet mentioned... nothing but failure after failure on all of them. Lifetime warranty or not, it's not worth the hassle returning it, copying data, etc..etc..
I guess, it all depends on if your time is worth more to you then a few dollars more for a "name brand" SDHC card that won't fail after a few months.
Size of card.
I answered this 3 weeks ago. The limit is 32GB, and my Sandisk works well on my stock gTablet. I bought the micro card locally at a Verizon Wireless store. No other retailer in the Philadelphia area carried a 32GB micro card, not even on their Web sites. I have audio and video files on the card; no hiccups when playing same.

64GB microsd limt
According to the manual (gttp://w w w .viewsonic.com/assets/104/20736.pdf sorry can't post URLs yet) on p. 54:
"The G Tablet currently supports up to 64GB micro SD cards. It
is recommended that the G Tablet be used with at least a 32GB
micro SD card to ensure the best user experience."
I've been using a 32GB SanDisk class 2 which seems to be working well.

Try to find one. I did and failed completely. 64GB SD and CF, yes. But no micro I could find anywhere. I got a couple of 16s from Amazon, and almost filled them with media (left room for a backup folder on each) and I am going to rotate them.
Here's a 32GB Class 6 for only $56 http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SKUSearch_v3.asp?px=PW&scriteria=AB02429
It would be nice to know if the gtab supports SDXC as well as SDHC. What say you Viewsonic?
Supposedly there is no real distinction between SDHC and SDXC 3.0 specs. Hardware wise it is the same. Other OSes (Android?) should be able to support SDXC with support drivers. This would mean any current SDHC device can be SDXC with a software update. SDHC won't support SDXC 4.0 specs (which isn't final yet) which features higher data transfer rates. That is according to wikipedia at least...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital
I don't believe micro SDXC cards exists just yet.
I still don't understand why manufacturers aren't using full size SD cards, they're cheaper and with tablets the size they are, a full size SD won't add much to it. It would save everyone a lot of money.

^ This. On an iphone sized device, sure uSD makes a decent savings size. On a 7+ inch tablet not so much. I wouldn't mind playing around with some USB SD readers and seeing if they work. If so you might be able to fit one somewhere in the chassis. There is the USB port, just need space to solder to the leads and add a hub and/or reader.

I think I have the same Patriot 16GB SDHC Class 4, and just like the reviews on NewEgg state it seems to run @ Class 6 speed. The price was good and so far I'm happy with it.
Shortly after I posted that, I went and looked around and couldn't find one either.
I also realized I am only running a 16GB SD card... thought I had a 32. Doh!

I was trying out the camcorder functionality of the charge but I was getting an error whenever I tried recording video. Then I took a look at the sdhc card and saw that it was a measly class 2 which is apparently too slow for recording video on the charge even at 320 x480 resolution. I swapped out the card with a class 10 and now I can record without any problems.
Did everyone get a class 2 with their phone?
That's so funny you just posted this, I was going to post similar.
My DC came with a Class 2. Dirt slow on writes.
My Thunderbolt came with a Class 4 and I replaced it with a Patriot 32gb Class 10. Made a big difference in how fast camera pics were saved.
I ordered the same card today to put in my Charge. Should really speed things up when writing to the sdcard.
Hmm, Class 2 here, but photos and video just fine on the highest res. Almost no delay either...
Though, now I'm tempted to get a Class 10 just to see if I notice a difference.

Class 2 in mine but I pulled it and threw a class 10 I already had. Also have a Class 6 and that works much better also then the elcheapo class 2 it came with but I thinking I'm sticking with the Class 10 for now
This is the class 10 card I bought for my Thunderbolt, and have the same arriving today for the Charge. Patriot Signature 32GB Class 10 from Amazon.
Solid performer, very reliable so far.
Those of you who say the class 2 performs well, set your camera at the highest resolution, super fine, etc, everything to make the saved pic as large as possible and take a pic. Once the shutter snaps, start counting "one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, etc..." On my Charge just now with a class two the picture isn't finished writing to the sdcard until somewhere between four and five. I'll do same test once I get the class 10 installed.
On my Thunderbolt, the exact same test just now and the pic is saved instantly; I can't even start to count. Granted, the software in the TB may just be better for the camera, but on the Thunderbolt with the Class 4 it shipped with I saw a noticeably quicker save.
Benchmarks on the two phones class 2 write 7MB/s, read 16MB/s; class 10 write 13MB/s, read 24MB/s.

Patriot, $130ish from amazon
Posted via tapatalk from my Samsung Stealth.
Is it worthwhile for me to blow that much money on a Class 10, or does the phone itself have some sort of capability cap that would make a Class 6 or something a little lower just as good?
It was $87 for the Patriot 32gb on Amazon. I've purchased two at that price over the last three months. No tax, too.
Only you can decide if 50-100% performance boost is worth the price. I can tell you that the difference between Class 4 and Class 10 is noticeable, very noticeable. I've had Class 6 cards, but never in the same phone as a Class 10, so no direct feel for it. You might compare some benchmarks.
Thanks for info, just pulled the trigger on the Amazon one. The camera slowness, including audio not matching the video, is the only part of this phone that made me miss the iPhone.
It's my primary camera for taking pics of the kids so it us to work well.
Thanks!

Unless you're running Linux on your PC, this would be bad because Windows can't see Ext4, so you would not be able to transfer files to it.
I got the Patriot 32gb class 10, but I haven't even took it out of the package because of all the negative reviews it's getting (i got it from newegg):

No issues with the Patriot here, but all those reports of corruption on NewEgg are disturbing. No sign of it here, but gonna be more diligent in backing up. I've had the card in the Thunderbolt for about 10 weeks I guess (got the TB on first day, got the Patriot a couple of days later).
However, I installed one in my Charge and while it makes a bit of a difference, the difference is not nearly as noticeable as the upgrade from C4 to C10 on the Thunderbolt was.
Camera is still slow to save a maximum resolution image, maybe 3 seconds, compared to 4-5 on the C2. On my Thunderbolt, image saves are almost instantaneous. I need to test this a bit more.
Patriot Class 10 in both Charge and Thunderbolt, the Charge benchmarks slower with SDTools app. Like 11MB/s writes and 20MB/s reads. This is pretty squarely in the middle between the TB on C10 and the Charge on C2 I posted earlier.
Seems like i/o on the Charge not optimized perhaps?
I still endorse upgrading to a C10, but not quite as strongly as I had earlier. I'd certainly buy it from Amazon or someone else who has as liberal a return policy (Amazon = 30 days, no questions asked, they pick up the postage) in case you decide the cost/performance-upgrade ratio isn't satisfactory.
Anyone using a 32GB SDHC card in their Fascinate? Just asking because there's one on sale on the Newegg Shell Shocker later today (check at 10AM pacific time). Wondering about speeds and such, and whether Class 10 is worth it (seems like if you want to fill such a big card, it'd be nice to have the faster write speeds of Class 10 but I've seen some reports of incompatibilities/problems with C10 devices).
I was just benchmarking the card that came in my Fascinate (which is supposedly Class 2) with SD Tools and I get 5-8MB/s writes and 16-18MB/s reads which is way better than the Class 2 minimums. The one on the shell shocker is a Class 4 so I'm just wondering whether it'll be a downgrade in terms of speed (just because it's rated for significantly lower speeds than what I'm getting with the internal one). I'll probably end up getting it anyway because I've got ~1GB free on my current one and I want to play with an Ubuntu chroot install.
i got the sandisk 32g class 10 it was worth it. Seems to R/W faster but that maybe due to the SD card boost read ahead cache hack. I think mine is set to 512K. Whether its faster or not the extra space is always a plus
Guess ill find out the hard way with ya, bought one as well. Was also wandering about the speed difference. Noticed the one that came with was class 2 and the 32 was class 4, hoped it at least wouldn't be any worse as i am content with the speed of the included sd. Was really surprised to see that it was a class 2.
Oh well just have to wait until it gets here and see.
DO NOT BUY THE Patriot LX Class 10 32GB CARD!!!
After a few months of light usage (i hardly ever connected it to transfer anything, just had HD seasons of breaking bad, chuck, human target and sparta that I never had time to finish watching) I finally hooked it up for maybe the 6th time since i purchased it, and after transferring some music and more shows, i got a "Damaged SD Card" error. For the last month since that occurrence, I have had to reformat the card at least once a week, and set up my music and just a few episodes at a time (because whats the point of putting seasons on if i'll just have to transfer them over again in a few days) consistently. Sure, it moves along at 12MB/s, but certainly not worth the hassle.
This is not an issue that I have heard of with Class 2 or Class 4 32GB micro SDHC cards, and Patriot says they are working with Microsoft and Google to determine the cause of the issue, but Newegg reviews indicate that this is not an isolated incident.
Good luck with the SanDisk card!!!
Mhm, I got the A-Data 32GB class 4 from Newegg. I benchmarked it and it's not as amazing as the built in card (around 5-6MB/s write and 12MB/s read) but it's not super slow. Yeah, I ended up avoiding the Class 10 cards for that reason actually. It's nice to have so much free space now; I think I'm going to try installing Ubuntu in a chroot jail again.
The new PNY class 10 for tablets is now in stock at Newegg, just ordered one with free shipping.

I got this exact card -- Just arrived yesterday.. I am getting AWFUL performance from it. I mean it performed like 3MB/s write and 8MB/s read.. It only fluxuated by about +-1MB with various SD read_ahead changes.. So disappointed. The worst thing is my phone is NOTICEABLY worse-off with the card in (weird stutters, etc).
Which leads me to something else altogether -- Has anyone noticed that with no SD card in the phone it just flies? I mean even the old SD card which didn't SEEM to give me any stutters was a matter of night and day with it in our out.
jt's CM7 Test Build 10 / EC09 radio / OBT .13 kernel @1400mhz

So I hadn't tried the card today with the EC09 radio (why should it make any difference?). It seems to have made a difference. Below are my results (with SD Booster app to change Read Ahead value, and AnTuTu benchmark just doing SD Card IO).

512, 6.0MB/s, 16.1MB/s
256, 7.4MB/s, 16.3MB/s
256 (2nd pass to verify), 7.4MB/s, 15.9MB/s
128, 6.9MB/s, 14.8MB/s
FAT32 / 16GB Partition
I hope this helps someone. Still not sure why my write speeds are so slow on Android when I've seen them hanging around 12MB/s in Windows (When using FAT32).

No, but I have found that cheaper/nonbranded cards tend to be slower. Read reviews before buying.
I've got a lexar 32gb class 10. It's absolutely terrible. It takes so long for pictures from the gallery to load after you take a picture for example. Anything using hte SD card is slow as molasses. Oddly every benchmark I throw at it shows high speeds, so I have no idea what is going on with it.

Awesome! Thanks for 2sharing
Just be careful and make sure its genuine, I have heard a lot of stuff about fake cards claiming to be class 10.
Whereas if you go for a good brand it might actually perform better.
I have a sandisk, 32gb, class 4, and i have 20 gb of music of my sensation, it works perfectly, better then my ipod touch! So I wouldnt pay much attention to the class but more to the quality of the card.
Granted the write speed is slow, took me a long time to get the 20gb of music on, but reading speed is somewhere around 10 to 16 mbps, and thats from a class 4!
This one is legit- got suckered in some ebay buys of fake cards, went ahead and bought this one a while back from NewEgg and never looked back. PNY is a good brand. I use this one currently and have had no issues .

I put in my order at Newegg this morning. Coupon code worked. Unfortunately, since I live in California, I had to pay sales tax so it cost me $3.99 extra
Yep, I bought this card from newegg. It is legit!

I got the email promotion and bought it as soon as I saw it lol. Got it in the mail yesterday. Noticable space and performance improvement from the stock 8 gb card. Everything that is on the sd card loads much faster now. This card may not be a high end class 10 card but it is that of a high end class 6 card which should be good enough for phone usage. You will be able to record hd with this card just fine. I've been waiting for it to be instock and on sale since the day i have my Sensation lol. Gotta love new egg.
How can i buy this card from Europe ? The Newegg don't send to Europe.

Unfortunately my stock 8gb card died. Contemplating between this or the 16gb class 10.
This one (DMY 32GB class 10), at this price, is fantastic. I already put it in my Sensation and the phone is flying (like a pig) with 32 GB. My laptop geting jealous. I warmly recommend it !
I have a 16gb PNY in my Sensation and I have to say I am disappointed with the performance of a so called class 10 card. SD Tools reports write speeds of <8MB/s which is no better than the 8GB Kingston class 4 (though seems to be under rated) that come bundled with the Sensation. Alarmingly, that falls below the 10MB/s minimum for a class 10.
Is SD Tools a reliable app?

Rating is for write speeds. 10MB/s should be minimum, PNY packaging states up to 15MB.

Also what is better about the SDXC or SDHC? Does it matter? If its a class 10 card?
Depends on what the transfer rate is pretty much
So SDXC vs SDHC we should just check the transfer rates?
Sdhc n sdxc are just different storage capacity. I think after 32gb it goes to sdxc. Write speed is what determines if a card us good or not. Sandisks 30mbps cards are faster than some other brands 45mbps cards

Wow you guys are really liking the San Disks. All the other threads had everyone saying they have went to hell on their cards. So I had kinda written them off. I mean I know Kingston cards aren't good I had many of those die back in the days when I needed them before LOL. What would be the min speed on transfer for storing video on one? Like vacation movies etc.
60mb/s should be enough for anything you throw at it
None of the ones I have looked at are 60MB a second. They run from 30 to 48, where could I get a 60mb per second card?

Hi,
If it is not too much trouble, can you run the A1 SD Benchmark on Android and post a screenshot? I am debating between getting the Samsung and the Lexar 128GB microSD card.

LOL is it really mandatory to have that speed of card to record HD video? I know I need a big card but can the Note 4 even use the speed of that card?
Lexar
From my experience, Lexar is good, but not their Micro SD cards. I went with the Samsung EVO 128GB card and I have had zero issues with It. As far as SanDisk goes, I have a 32GB SDHC and a 64 GB SDXC. The SDXC card gets noticeably hot when reading/writing lots of data. On my Samsung SDXC, I xfr'd the same file and it took about 10 seconds less (out of 45 seconds, big difference) and didn't get nearly as hot. As far as class goes, A class 10 is good for archival usage but if you plan of recording anything more than 1080p/30, I would use a UHS-1 or 3 card. UHS has a higher minimum transfer rate than C10 does. I have recorded 4K video on my Note 4 directly to the Sammy SDXC for almost a full uninterrupted 45 minutes and had absolutely no problem. Immediately following that, I recorded 1080p/60 and still had no problems. My Logic was, Samsung phone, Samsung card, less chance for something to go wrong.
I purchased this on black friday for $99.99 and been using ever since its great!!

On your phone recording 4k it writes 6.25 or so mb/s so even getting a 30 mb/s card you'll be fine
