[Q] App to show network downtime? - Android Apps and Games

Hi!
I'm looking for an app that can log when my network provider goes down. The network is down a lot right now and I need some statistics on it to get a discount...
The app should track GSM/3G(UMTS).
Any clues?

I'll guess I'll answer myself. The app is called "No signal alert".

[Q] How do I prevent Samsung Galaxy S 4G from connecting to AT&T?

I have Samsung Galaxy S 4G with T-Mobile in San Francisco.
Whenever I go to an area without T-Mobile signal, the phone connects to AT&T. I called T-Mobile and they said that's because T-Mobile has roaming agreement with AT&T so my phone would connect.
The problem is, when my phone connects to AT&T, I can't make any calls. It says the phone's not registered. T-mobile says that's because I'm in an area that has T-Mobile coverage.
You'd think that the phone would be smart enough to figure out that only emergency calls can be made (which is what BlackBerry does and shows SOS sign). The real problem for me is that, I have WiFi calling enabled with cellular preference, and when I'm in the basement of my office building where there is no T-Mobile signal (but there is WiFi signal), my phone thinks it has cellular signal so it doesn't activate WiFi calling, yet no phone calls are coming in b/c it's not registered to AT&T's cellular network.
Is there a way for me to force my phone to only connect to T-Mobile? I know there isn't on the regular settings menu, but perhaps experts could tell me how to do so using those star-sharp keys listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842134)?
Thank you!
Set wifi preferred instead of cellular.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me because I move around a lot, and Android WiFi calling feature doesn't have handover.
There's got to be a way to prevent this phone from connecting to AT&T at a low level somehow, no?
How do I do that? Have checked the manual but can't find location where explains how to select wi-fi preferred instead of cellular. Your kind advise will be appreciated
Open WiFi Calling and select settings. You'll see Preference. Select Cellular Preferred.
I think in setting then wireless and network, then mobile networks then network operators click the default settings.... select manual and wait for the carrier to pop up.
Will this solve your problem?

yep manual is exactly what OP should do.
if the settings for network operators are set to manual then u select the network u want and it sticks unless u manually select a different network provider. u are in select automatically mode so the phone can switch all on its own. this should solve your problem as other people have already mentioned
I have tried this many times and works as long you don't turn the phone off. After I forced the phone to manually select T-Mobile I checked many times the default setting and it remained in manual until the phone was turned off. When I switched it back on it was again in automatic mode and switching to ATT when signal is low.
Is there a way to prevent this? If not, well , first thing when phone is on in the morning is to check default setting.
5/24 I finally gave up and sold the phone. Samsung says they have not received any claims regarding this issue eventhough you see it frequently in the forums. I returned back to my HTC HD2 and will wait for the G2.

These are the changes that Tmobile made to the phone

By going through the manual & comparing it to the EU version I've compiled a list of things tmous has changed on the phone. (in case anyone was interested)
Removed:
Quick Lookup - ability to select something & choose lookup through Google, Wikipedia, etc
Show Me app
Ebook reader completely missing even though HTC widget is still there
Voice Recorder
Voice Dialer
Dock settings
Locations
The Device Setup on first boot is missing things
Added:
Wifi calling (Tmobile's UMA feature)
I wonder why Tmobile removed all of these?
Here is a Voice Recorder app in the market that someone recommended since ours is missing:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.tokasiki.android.voicerecorder
Did they keep Locations? And the quick look up thing is actually useful...dumb.

Is there anyway to add any of those features back in or are they hard built into the rom?

What do you mean by "wifi calling"? is it calling via wifi using SIP provider?
If so, we do have it on our Vodafone UK branded units.
If it's something else, please explain.
well I guess it's good I havn't waited for the 4G to come and pre-ordered the British version.. just one thing, the WiFi Calling looks good.. (first time with Android and HTC xD) is there any way to get it in the UK Sensation Z710e ?

T-Mobile is a pretty cool system. When you're at home (or on a WiFi network that doesn't do much filtering), phone calls, SMS, and MMS inbound or outbound route through WiFi instead of the cellular network. I've noticed this has the benefit of improving battery life while on WiFi, as it turns off the WCDMA (3G/4G) radio. It actually seems like it might turn off the cellular radio completely, I'll have to check when I get home.
The one downside is that if you are on the phone and walk away from your WiFi network, it will drop the call. It can't hand off.
I'm not sure if this is common in Europe, but in the states, many wireless carriers offer femtocell units that users can install in their home if they have bad reception. WiFi calling eliminates the need for that.
Wifi calling will notify you of a mms but it will not download the message. At least that's my experience with the G2x.

ah sorry was just going off what I've been told regarding MMS. I actually don't use SMS or MMS, I use google voice for "SMS" purposes and don't have any use for MMS (if someone wants to send me a photo they just email it).
I have an unbranded phone from HK but also have Show Me and Locations. (Maybe the other stuff too - didn't check).

I think it shuts off the radio as well. My buddy had it turned on by accident & was freaking out because he was on wifi & showed no signal bars.

A similar feature to the TMOUS "wifi calling" is offered in the UK by BT Mobile. They call it BT Fusion.
Fem2cell is available here from Vodafone, known as Sure Signal

Good call, I'm gonna need wifi calling at the very least before I'll hop over to an alternate ROM (who am I kidding I'm sure I won't be able to resist). The my account app is handy but it's in the market anyway (there was an update a day or two ago).
When you say Dock Settings is there a separate App/Icon for the EU version or are the settings completely gone from withing the Settings Menu?

Apologies beforehand i'm a complete android n00b having come from a stock HD2.
So i'm going on holiday and don't want my sensation to roam whilst i'm out there (will cost a fortune in roaming charges) so i was wondering if there is an app out there that will allow me to block the internet connection so stop chekcing emails, facebook etc
i still want to use the phone for phone purposes.

Find APNdroid on the market, it will disable your data connection.
Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks >Mobile networks, Uncheck Data Roaming.
I think this prevents your phone from connecting when it is not on its home network
Turn off mobile network and turn off your roaming. You should tell your network you are going abroad, they can sell you cheap data roaming bundles.
Sent from my brain
Usually, default setting do not permit data roaming. If you want to be reassured, there are two HTC widgets that you can add to a homescreen. Mobile network widget and data roaming widget are simple on/off switches. If either of these are turned off your internet connection will not be used abroad, and mobile network off will really save your battery.
These widgets are found by choosing settings from the widget list.

Why is my Moto G constantly dropping calls?

I'm using 4.4.3 and every phone call my moto G drops the call and the 3G symbol changes to E. I'm using straight talk AT&T sim.

Believe he/she is referring to the app named "network" which apparently switches berween network modes which maybe its an app (not legit) I wouldn't install as you can do so in phone settings -> more -> mobile networks -> preferred network type. Not sure how worthwhile that is, its worth a try, even if its not the greatest thing to manually keep on switching if you want 4g.
I've had some dropped calls with the phone when the cells are very low, and was impossible to talk to anyone because of it. But, you could always use google hangouts etc. and make free internet calls too with no drops.
Unsure if anyone has released a tweak or if one of the custom roms will help out there.

[Completed] Calls On CM based Roms Are Always Unknown (Mongolia)

I have posted this in the Samsung galaxy S5 forum, but I am not seeming to have any luck. I have been searching for the answer for days.
I really like all CM based roms and I do not want to switch to another ROM. However, only on the CM mods, all of my incoming and outgoing calls show up as unknown in the caller ID. There is also an exclamation mark in the symbol that shows my service in the top right.
I live in Mongolia and all the numbers are 8 digits long. If I add the country code (+976) when I make an outgoing call, I can see the number. However, when people call me, it still shows as unknown. When using the stock rom or the MOAR rom, it works fine.
I use a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5 on lollipop.
I have searched everywhere, but I am not sure what to do. This is really a deal breaker, so please help me out.
Thank you
Hello,
The exclamation mark in your signal icon indicates that you are getting cellular service but you are not getting mobile data. This is because you either have an issue with your SIM card or because you need to edit your APNs to your cell carriers' APN values.
Try posting your question in the forum linked below.

The experts there may be able to help. Good luck.

Thank you. However, I DO get mobile data when I turn on the data. I changed the APN. When it is off, I don't get that symbol.
I will post in the forum that you provided.

It shows the symbol when turn mobile data on but it gets data and can browse the web? If so that's strange.

The caller ID may need you to gave data turned on when a call comes in, it may get its' information from the mobile network instead of from cellular signal, it could depend on what phone app and calling setup was used in making the ROM.
