What phone are you coming from? - myTouch 4G General

Out of curiosity, what phone are MT4G users coming from? I know personally I am coming from a Vibrant -- had too many problems with that phone, so I jumped ship to MT4G (hoping for no/minimal problems).

iPhone 3GS. I think I've finally found an Android phone that's worth me jumping ship for. I wanted something fast, slim, no physical keyboard and with better data speeds than AT&T. Got it! Ordered my Black MT4G from wirefly just a minute ago with next day shipping hopefully will have it in hand tomorrow!

Just got back from the store...grabbed a white one.
I am coming from the HD2 which is also running Android 2.2 SkinnyEVO...not that my HD2 was giving me any troubles (runs extremely smooth)...I just have a problem

G2 > Vibrant > Mytouch 4g. My main thing was overall phone use and camera. That pushed me off the G2 to the vibrant. And the reason for Vibrant to Mytouch 4g was FFC, 4G and dedicated camera button

Hello my name is David and I also have a problem. In the last 9 months I have had a MT3G, Cliq, HD2, X10, Storm 2, Iphone 3G, and the G2. For anyone that cares the MT4G IMO is waaaaaay better than the G2.

Touch Pro 2.... its time to retire this baby, not up to par way too slow

Coming from a G1. Really liked it but it's time to move on to something faster. Besides my contract expired last month.

Tough decisions... its probably because of the bloated t-mobile software but my vibrant is so much quicker than the mt4g... I don't think I would stick with the mt4g unless I was able to clean it up a bit and speed it up. =\

G1->Nexus One (sniff, will never forget you buddy)->G2->mytouch 4G
Still debating between G2 and mytouch 4G. I wish there was a Nexus 2 out, with all the mytouch features minus all the sense bloat and annoying "genius" button. Although this is a definite step up from the previous mytouch devices, this one still looks somewhat plasticy in comparison to the Nexus or G2.

Today I went to the t-mobile store to check the MT4G and compare it against my vibrant. Really loved the solid feel and quality but I was surprised to see how laggy it was compared to the vibrant even though my vibrant is not rooted and no lag fix on it. The web page scrolling was jerky compared to the vibrant but the screen quality was much better than the G2 although not as nice as the vibrant's IMO. All in all I was kinda disappointed as I still have a free upgrade to choose and I was all set on getting the MT4G.

Coming from the HTC HD2, but running Android. Tired of waiting for builds and time to move to an actual Android phone. Great timing to!

Ran out and got a Vibrant the day it was released, ended up trading it for a Nexus One after it's "GPS Fix" update made it 10x worse than it was before. Nexus was decent but after having played with the MT4G Rom port, I just HAD to get this phone! Glad I did!

coming from a BlackBerry 8220....please god, it better be delivered soon.

Evo...vibrant...desire...hd2....nexus this thing blew them all...nexus 2nd place...

G1 -> Glacier. This is the first t-mobile phone since the G1 that I think «sucks less». I just hope the battery lasts on the level of G2 at least.

I'm coming from my old mt3g. I had a Vibrant for a minute but lack of camera button, notification led, trackball, working GPS, working compass, and the cheap plasticy feel, had me return it within two weeks. I've been waiting for something better to come along. Looks like the mt4g will be my next phone.

I've had a vibrant since july and just got the MT4g and its much quicker than the vibrant. Its not even that close.

Coming from the Vibrant. Even with the custom roms out there, it still doesn't make up for Samsung's bull**** RFS file system. I find that the MT4G is a much smoother experience, no lag at all. The touch screen also responds better.
Having said that, there are a few gripes I have with the phone but they're minor.
1. Why the huge text box for SMS? Annoying, because when the keyboard is out it takes up half the screen.
2. Numbers next to contacts in SMS. I know who I'm taking to, I don't need more wasted space with the number there.
3. The default notification seems to override everything. For some bull**** reason I can't set the ringtone in the mail app but I can on gmail. My initial solution was to set the default notification tone in settings to what I wanted for email. Then I set the ringtone for texts in the SMS app. Well, that didn't work. It was still using the default tone.
Edit: To clarify, the mail app is the only thing that happens on. I can set a tone for everything else without a problem.
To overcome this I just installed chompsms and disabled the stock app. The point is though, I shouldn't have to do that because of tmobiles idiotic design decisions on their android roms.

I am coming from the HD2 with Android 2.2 skinnyevo rom. i hated the little issues they had with it and i hated the battery life. i just wanted a good stock android phone so i heard about this phone right before i was gonna get a g2 so i decided to wait and i could never be happier. i was at t mobile first thing in the morning at 9am here in cali. i was the first customer to buy the mytouch 4g white lol

I am extremely happy. There is not one moment that goes by that I regret buying it and would not change over to the G2.
I bought the MT4G on launch day, returned it for a G2, and the very next day went and got the exact same MT4G back... The hinge on that G2 should never have made it beyond quality control...
Mt4g ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:d

I had 2 different G2's and then I switched to the MT4G. The MT4G is a much better device if you don't need the keyboard which many people now don't as with newer input methods like swipe the touch screen is just as good if not better than the hard keyboard. The G2 hinges were pathetic. The MT4G with Front camera, more RAM and more options is just better. The build quality is also very good.
I love this phone. I had the G2 and returned it. Never used the qwerty on it and that hindge was loose on week two. My MT4G is an awsome phone. I came from an iphone unlocked jailbroken iphone for the past 3 years! Android takes the cake. Now trying to learn about roots, roms ect...Time to have some fun!

Upgraded from the MT3G, and I have to say that I absolutely LOVE this phone! No regrets whatsoever.
Had the G2 for three weeks before the MT4G came out. I have no regrets about exchanging it for the MT4G. My only qualm with the MT4G are the physical buttoms Still, the only thing that would have made me want to return the MT4G is if the Nexus S had been made by HTC. Since it's by Samsung, I'm loosing zero sleep over it (although I still have 5 days in my new buyers remorse).

Coming from a Nexus to this I love the P buttons cause on the nexus I would accidentally press the captive ones and came out annoying sometimes! But I'm with you with Samsung making the upcoming Nexus S! But all in all I like this phone, I'm rooted, still on a stock rom and does not skip a beat! I can just imagine how beastly this phone will be when the Devs work on our phones!
Yup, ive been through my share of iphones the past 3 years, and kept telling everybody that theres nothing better then an iphone. Then I got irritated with not having 3g speeds with it and gave this mt4g a try. And I now theres no looking back. I tell everybody with an unlocked iphone to get the mt4g. It blows all other iphones out the water
+1 for real buttons.... I see this as a feature over the g2.... I'm so tired of touch buttons on the n1.....
Push them *****es all the time in the car... I always find the one I'm after after pushing all the other 3...

Coming from a Vibrant, I truly believed that there was no life after SAMOLED, I can now say w/o a doubt that life just gets better, This phone has surpassed all of my expectations.
Wow, these responses are blowing me away. I purchased my myt4g last night and was kind of unsure because of the nexus s coming. I have to say as of right now I absolutely love my phone. I truely didnt think I would enjoy it this much.

I purchased the g2 first day it came out, returned it 3 days later because i hated everything about it.
Just got the MT4G and was skeptical about sense, but after a full 48 hours of use im in love.
the g2 cant even shake a stick at the 4G
The best way to describe my opinion on the MT4G is that this is the phone I was expecting when I purchased the Vibrant back in July. After reading all the hype about the Galaxy S series, I was expecting a true superphone that will exceed everyone's expectations of what a smartphone should be. Needless to say, that was not the case at all.
Although I like the look of capacitive buttons, I accidentally touched them on quite a few occasions while using the Vibrant, causing the phone to perform undesired actions. Going forward, I will try to opt for phones that have physical buttons (unless, of course, Desire HD was released in the U.S.).
It's already been 2 weeks since I bought the MT4G, and I've yet to find anything that I am not happy with. Sure, the speaker could be better, and the screen could be SAMOLED. However, neither shortcoming is a dealbreaker for me, and the phone certainly works the way it was intended to work right out of the box.
I'm EXTREMELY satisfied with my MT4G. So much so that I ordered another one for my significant other! Back on Nov. 4th, I was just about to buy a G2 to replace my old G1. I was in love with the performance of the G2. It had a physical keyboard, just like my G1, and was the next logical evolution of the platform, so I thought.
While the T-Mo rep was ringing me up at the cash register, he casually said "Yeah we're really busy tonight, trying to get ready for tomorrows launch of the MyTouch HD" (he referred to it as the HD from what I remember). He went on to tell me some features, and even showed me the phone and let me handle it for a few minutes. I was so impressed with the ergonomics and the feature set (a 1GHz gen 2 Snapdragon processor vs. 800MHz gen 2 in the G2) that I told him to stop ringing me up for the G2 because I wanted to wait for the MT4G.
I'm glad I waited. While I still like the G2, its durability is highly suspect. It wouldn't be so bad if the hinges were made out of steel or some other durable metal, but they appear to be plastic. That kinda scares me.
And now that I've become proficient at SWYPE, I can crank out paragraphs almost as fast as I can type on a real full-sized keyboard. I could never do that on the physical slide-out keyboard on my G1.
It's no wonder the MT4G is back-ordered everywhere.
Coming straight of a rooted G1, this phone is heaven on a stick!
It's just great - it's responsive, fast, has so many features and the battery life is so much better than the G1. Sense does take some time for me to get used to, but that wasn't a problem since I could always use Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher if I didn't like it.
The main thing is that the performance of the phone has succeeded my expectations.
Coming from an Evo, Droid Incredible, Not one but three N1's , Samsung Epic 4G, Xperia X10, Original MOTO Droid, Droid X, I am actually highly impressed, down to the point where I have actually found what I've always wanted in an Android...

[Q] how is it, Mytouch 4g owners? tell me please. :)

Hey guys!!!
I'm just wondering what you all think of the mytouch. I played with the g2, and I like it. I like the keyboard, and the screen looks better to me IMO.
However, with gingerbread proally coming out soon (PROBABLY) , that'll slow updates, for the MT right, because of mySense?
I LOVE THE MT4G. LOVELOVE.
I use facebook a lot
I text a lot
I like more customization
i'll probably root, overclock, and flash a custom rom when a lot of them become available.
mySense seems allright!
i consider myself an intermediate to advanced smartphone junky.
What phone should I get, and how do you like it?
I'm also worried that it's been a few months since the g2 came out, and its not even at the front at my TMO store anymore. I don't want to sign a contract and want another one before 3 months.
but the mt4g is! ideally, i wish they would add that g2 keyboard to the mytouch 4g and keep that z-hinge, it seems cool to me.
thanks!
so, should i get it? hows your experiences!? thanks.
its really important, i need a new phone before monday .
cmon guys please. 12 views, noone replies?
i just am deciding if i like mysense, and if its worth losing that amazing keyboard the g2 has. though the screen is only .1 inch bigger, the mytouch screen seems way bigger! i like it in my hand.
Well I have no experience with the MT4G yet as I am gonna get it today. My first decision was to get the G2 but after doing countless research (youtube reviews!) and comparisons of the two, I fell in love with the myTouch over the G2. The hard keyboard of the G2 doesn't really matter to me, the onscreen keyboard is good if not better with Swype. I prefer vanilla android over other UIs but mySense seems to have a lot of interesting tweaks and features that I might enjoy having. If we don't like it then there's rooting of course as I'm sure there will be plenty of roms available soon. The updates are the only thing that have me a bit worried but like I said, rooting the phone might ease the pain of dragging updates by flashing 2.3 roms if available.
Not sure if this might help but its worth noting i think.
Good luck on choosing your next phone!
I've had both the G2 & the MT4G and I'm a lot happier with the MT4G.
The G2 seemed too bricky for my tastes and I really didn't use the hard keyboard to compensate. MySense is not as good as full fledged sense but it's not a huge difference.
I know not too long after gingerbread comes out we'll probably have a Rom to flash it on our phones so updates don't worry me so much.
I think it really comes down to if you want a hard keyboard or a front facing camera. I chose the front facing camera & less bulkiness

maybe because this is the 15th "how do you like your mytouch" "is it better then the g2" thread.
people need to learn how to read before they start typing
I have had the G2 and now the MT4G and although the G2 is a very very good phone I must say that I believe the MT4G is the best all around phone I have ever owned, I also have a Vibrant and a Nexus One at this time but I am going to sell the Nexus One. All of these are Great phones IMO but the G2(hinge issues, connection issues, radio issues)and the Nexus One( touch screen issues at times, signal issues) and the Vibrant(virtually no GPS until just a short time ago, lags etc.signal issues) do not seem to compare with the all stability of the MT4G of which the only issue I have found was a slight glitch in MMS messaging which is now covered. All of this is obviously just my opinions but if I had to go with just 1 phone right now it would be the MT4G

I gave up my mint N1 for the MT4G. I know there aren't many ROM's for it yet, and God knows how long it will take to get Amon_RA, but it took a good month before there were ROM's to flash for the N1. With Android 2.3 so close to being released it's just a matter of time before we get a vanilla gingerbread ROM for this device.

I'm with ya... Came over from an Evo and just can't get used to the hard keys at the bottom instead of the touch-keys. Also experiencing some automatic re-boots (3 in three days) and some text sending problems (I already turned of the Teklia). If the Evo had been a GSM phone, I would have brought it to TMO (sprint really sucks in this town). I'm looking for a GSM Evo-clone! My only other choice will be ATT in about a month when they come to town, but they don't have any decent androids yet (sorry, the samsung captivate just doesn't do it for me... the touch screen is terrible)

Nexus One owner who absolutely loves the My Touch 4G. Will always keep the N1 for the almost instant upgrades but the hardware on this My Touch is 2nd to none. This phone has it all and it all works. I'm getting use to this non vanilla Android for lack of a better word but using Launcher Pro this thing is dynamite. Best phone to date besides the Nexus One of course. Seriously the My Touch 4G is probably the best phone I have ever owned. The Nexus One will always be my go to phone, I'm just always drawned to that thing.
PS
The HSPA+ was just flipped on in my town. Live in a suburb outside Boston and getting between 3.5 to 5.5 Mbps on download and 1.5 on upload. I was usually getting around 900-950 kbps on the download. What a major diifference and these speeds are in my town and most surrounding towns. T-Mobile is killing this area with their great network. I am in freaken heaven. Thank You T-Mobile.
Those speeds are on my Nexus One. My Touch 4G is higher.
I had the EVO for almost a month (trial period). While I agree the bigger screen is great, it seems a little more washed out, maybe due to the fact that the same resolution is now scretched to accomedate a 4.3'' screen. The capacitive buttons on the bottom was a wash for me. I find myself accidently hitting them sometimes. I much prefer the physical keys. Battery life on the MT4G is much better. I could never manage to squeeze 10 hours from the EVO (moderate use). So, I chose the MT4G over the EVO. The only thing I did like about the EVO was the original SENSEUI on it, Tmobile's version is a little sloppy. Just my experience and opinion.
Your device is clearly defective, get a warranty exchange. That, or your lying.

LOVE the hardware, but don't like Sense. Waiting for CM6 to come out. You could always pick up a used Nexus or Vibrant for $300 or so. Or buy this one from T-mo for $450 ish without contract and then trade up later if you really want...

Finally a good phone :D (New user over from vibrant)

Hello everyone.I just picked up this gem today after 5 of the longest months with a cursed (Vibrant/galaxy S).SO glad to be back on HTC. Hope i made the right move but i think i did.Glad to be here guys
Welcome. I switched over from the G2 just 2 days ago also, and so far with CyanogenMod, I'm doing good. The battery isn't great, but with a few tweaks, I'll get it to be better.
How's it feel though, coming from a beautiful screen to the MyTouch?
I came from the Vibrant as well within the last week or so
The battery right now is worse than my Vibrant was, although my Vibrant was running custom firmware tweaked out the *** and my MT4G is toting stock so far.
I really like the phone...a lot
The screen is ok.I believe i got a good one.The fact that everything works makes up for the display change. Can you put a 32gb card in this?

Yup! Supports up to 32g.
Another convert coming over from a Vibrant. Although I will miss the screen of the Vibrant, I am loving having a phone that works. No more wonky gps, no more gallery lockups, no more wondering if Samsung will actually ever push 2.2 over.
Did have an issue with 4g reception, but switched to the newer sim that came with the phone and haven't had an issue since.
Have a good display (did my research and have seen the washed out ones to know the difference) and no creaky buttons or anything like that.
Luckily for me, as I was on my 5th vibrant T-mobile offered my a Mytouch4g at no cost. So my Vibrant is up on craigslist now!

Just came over from the Captivate. I will miss the screen, but the MTG4's screen is not bad (guess I have one of the good ones) and for every other aspect of the phone, like the man said, it just works. I am running this thing stock, and so far so good. Was really getting tired of having to tweak/mod things that should have been stock. Just my .02
maybe purchasing a mytouch 4g today at $250 new in box. Coming from a nexus one to vibrant and possibly the mytouch 4g.
Vibrant I'm liking it currently, did the gps hardware fix, currently unlocked & rooted. Very few custom roms out there currently for it. Screen is very solid, battery life is okay, had better life with my nexus one.
What should I expect from the mytouch 4g, still considering if I should make a switch over to tmobile or just unlock it for my local carrier. Mytouch 4g screen doesn't look too bad, vibrant was nice. I do like the home buttons on mytouch, and the trackpad unlock/wake. Vibrant I didnt care for using the power button to wake it all the time.
Any advice for rooting/unlocking the mytouch 4g? Which rom to use?

That's one of my favorite things about going from the MT3G to the new MT4G - I see no need to root it at the moment. Of course, I probably will like 6 months from now when I start to get bored with the phone, but this offers me everything I wanted stock that the MT3G didn't have that I had to root to get...plus it runs better than it ever could have on the older phone. Planning to stay stock for a while

Picked up the mytouch 4g brand new in box, I purchased it off craigslist. Seller was a tmobile rep who won it in a contest and it was never opened. Rooted & unlocked it to use on current carrier, still debating if I should make the switch to tmobile.
Rooting wasn't too bad, just had issue with pushing CWR using adb. Issue solved though, so its time to find a rom.
Initial thoughts of the mytouch 4g...
solid build, very nice!
screen is pretty good.....can't really compare it to the vibrant
trackpad is nice to use in Recovery mode
Screen is alittle small...prefer the vibrant size
Overall Im happy with the phone,
ROMS: I do like the stock rom and some apps, possibly just change the launcher and stick with that.
CM7 isnt too bad from what I have played with, not sure if I want it though.
I just got rid of my vibrant two days ago and got my mytouch....it is much much better...the build quality is insanely good and the screen is very very close to the vibrant but much sharper...battery life seems better and omfg cm7 on here is just so win.
MT4G + CM7
I also came from a g2 and I'm glad I did. This phone is awesome. Welcome!

You know, the more I use the MT4G, the more I like it.
It just makes me wonder how Samsung missed the boat on what should have been a class leading series of phones. Their blunder with the GPS (and now, if you have a look over at the Vibrant forum, it seems as it may have been hardware related after all) and their clueless software support. Maybe they were hoping their amazing (and it is amazing) screen would make up for it.
Anyway, my MT4G has been rock solid so far. My wife got hers a couple of days ago and she is also really liking it.
It's too bad that the MT4G marketing is aimed toward phone novices, kind of like a super phone for dummies. I avoided it because they make it seem more like a toy than the really great phone it is. Too bad, because it could have saved me a painful few months with the Vibrant.
been doing some searching for tmobile discounts...Able to my old university discount of 15% just need ID and email from what I was told.
Probably going to take step over to tmobile, although I do like my current carrier. Solid 3g service at work and for home its okay. Up to 3.2mbs is the highest I hit. Typically averaging around 2mbps.
As for the tmobile are there roaming agreements? Do I need to even worry about that, mainly travel around the midwest.
as for the plans itll either be the following:
1000min unlimited text/data @ $59 plus tax
or 500min " " " @51 plus tax.... only thing worried about is minutes to family members who currently have my local carrier. Guess Ill try the 500 for awhile and switch if needed. 4g service is suppose to be strong at home but reveiws of it at work arent the greatest.

Little story about the MT4G and the Nexus S

I had for two months a MT4G and first I hated it because it was so different. I came from a Nexus One with Stock Froyo and Sense UI was overwhelming me. After 2 months I really appreciated all the small nice features that HTC integrated that stock android never had. Additionally, the MT4G is a great, fast and well built phone (I had also trouble with squeaky buttons and the bad screen) and Froyo 2.2.1 with Sense was running very smoothly on it. Last weekend I dropped my MT4G and the screen broke and the buttons and trackpad scratched. So I took the opportunity to buy the Samsung Nexus S. I wanted to give it a try and wanted to see how gingerbread looks. The phone is nice except the already known flaws. The SAMOLED is for my taste too dark and not sharp enough. But I could definitely live with that. The most disappointing thing was gingerbread. I couldn't believe what a half baked version of android Google put on this phone. It's embarrassing. The browser is useless with or without flash because it is not hardware accelerated? Everything is choppy and laggy. I had the MT4G before and its browser is smooth and fast. The NS is a pain while scrolling between homescreens....it lags, it misses swipes it drove me nuts. I tried several homelaunchers and the lag on the homescreen and the missed swipes were still present. I wanted to try the FFC just to realize that it is not supported by any 3rd market software (Tango doesn't really work) and neither by Google itself. Are you really kidding me? Yesterday after a week I had enough. Today I returned the phone mainly because of gingerbread and I am happily awaiting my MT4G. I will buy one tonight and I couldn't be more happy with HTC and Sense. I am not even anxiously waiting for gingerbread anymore for my MT4G.
thanks, may pass on the nexus s and wait for another 4g phone before switching to tmobile. thought about buying a new mytouch 4g and trading it for the nexus s and going on a two year contract .

The problem was probably it being by Samsung. Many users have reported Gingerbread running fine on HTC phones.

Could be. But most of the bugs should have been observed prior to release of this phone. The browser lag, flash unusable and that the phone reboots while on the phone doesn't sound like they tested the NS vigorously. The Nexus S is officially not a dev phone and to put something like that to BestBuy is unbelievable. BTW I had two Nexus S and both were buggy.
gingerbrad on the mytouch 4g runs amazing.. its the nexus s lol.
id still trade my mytouch 4g for one though. idk why

I'm tempted to, hopefully going to check it out tomorrow. If I like it I may purchase a mytouch 4g for $99 on a two year contract. Trade the mytouch 4g for a nexus s then, and still have my old mytouch 4g which I purchased off craigslist for $250 brand new.
I have now my MT4G again and I am so happy with it. Try the Nexus S before you buy it. Stock Android and the Nexus line are dead for me.

I do like cm7, haven't really used the stock mytouch rom since I'm unlocked many features for tmobile. would keep the nexus s as a back up

I would buy an NS again if they will figure out which are hardware defects and which are bugs.
Got the best of both worlds here... MT4G running cm7 which is basically gingerbread ..

I had the same experience like you. I bought one of CL pretty cheap and sold it shortly after, later on i acquired 2 brand new in box Nexus S and sold it, the thing is i was never tempted to try on the phone again.
I found the same flaws you had in the Nexus S. The phone feels slow, more like a reskined vibrant with gingerbread. While i think 2.3 is nice because higher build android means always better but after using so many stock roms i don't buy the GOOGLE EXPERIENCE anymore, let me explain:
Basic things like dialer, is a pain in the a** to scroll through the call logs or contact list to call someone, yeah favorite helps but that is another extra step you have to take when making a call. HTC's dialer while overloaded it can easily search through your contact list when you touch dial their name on the numpad. Then you get the bonus of recording calls for important things you need out of the box without the need to wait for the deving team.
The stock browser sucks, no text reflow, well yes the nexus s owners will tell you to press on the zoom in/out soft buttons to reflow, again another extra steps.
Then the whole lag in a phone that is not suppossed to lag. Browser lags and the OS just doesn't feel as smooth as one hope to be, well feels smooth brand new but after some usage it starts to drag on its knees.
Well again the GOOGLE EXPERIENCE of customizing your phone the way you want is just plain old when back in the days android was in the baby stages the theme builders and custom launchers did a great job but i think that the users want something that works out of the box with higher level of customization than iOS.
I've went through 3 mytouch 4G, because my family members keept liking the phone so much that they wanted one for themselves and they are all been pleased, and none of them are android savy and cared enough about rooting or custom roms.
So in summary the nexus s is a nieche phone, the phone is for people who can put up with the shortcommings of a unfinished product and the patience of waiting for google to release updates. While new phones are released in the market every months I bet the nexus model will not have many followers after people see google released a half baked phone and OS when in a few months people can get dual core phones and LTE phones, google nexus one owners are still with their FULL GOOGLE EXPERIENCE and patiently waiting for "optimizations" from google. I just find it funny, it was a great thing with the nexus one because it was actually a great phone but the NS is just a quick wrapped product for the holiday season.
I know if I said that in the Nexus S forums, i'd get flamed because there are a bunch of nexus s owners that dropped 580 for the phone and need to somehow keep their ego high but this is how i feel about this whole nexus s phone.
So in summary if google released another phone, i'd really have to consider it because plain android is getting boring after 2 years of the same stuff from the G1, MT3G, Nexus1, G2, Nexus S...
Not to diss on custom rom builders either because custom roms takes time to build and by the time you have a very well composed rom, the phone has reached its EOL.
yes the nexus s does seem half baked, the nexus one was a solid phone and wouldn't mind picking up another one.

LOL. I know what you mean. I still don't understand why some people with NS have no problems at all; I had two and both had the same problems. Either they immediately root their phones and put some custom roms on it or they are ignorant. I try yo get the best bang for my bucks and at the moment it is the MT4G with Froyo. I don't even want a custom rom with gingerbread 2.3.1 on my MT4G at the moment. I wait until Gingerbread includes the new music player and GTalk supports the FFC. Let's hope soon
I had the same experience. I had a Nexus S for 2 weeks and it was terribly laggy.
I sent it back. Lucky I hadn't sold my MyTouch yet because now with CM7 Gingerbread is super snappy and amazing.
I blame Samsung. I had the Vibrant before the MT4G and it sucked as well.

I actually did like the vibrant, voodoo lagfix was pretty solid but kinda sucked having to turn it off to flash another rom. Loved the screen, but overall the phone did feel cheap

I agree. Post voodoo the vibrant was a beast. It's just too bad Samsung couldn't get it right out of the box.

Regarding the screen on the NS, I just realized that I am not a big fan of SAMOLED displays. I would always prefer a SLCD. I like the bright and sharp displays over the more vibrant but less sharp SAMOLED.
I got the NS and had it for a week and returned it.
So disappointing, the worst was not having a track pad.
Same day bought a MT4G off Craigslist.
First day I hated it, the stock browser is the worst I've ever seen.
Then I got Skyfire off the market and now I think the MT4G is the best
phone I've ever used.
I'm not giving up on the Nexus line, I still have an N1, I'm just giving up on Samsung.
Is anyone here are excited about Samsung Vibrant 4G? FFC and HSPA+ up to 21mbps? but the same old style lol..what is up with Samsung? can't they change their style? hehehe
Ewww I see Samsung failed and at it again, they have a thing for repeating and screwing users over and over. IDK why people even buy Samsung based phones these days didn't they learn from being abandoned?
BTW epsix read this thread MT4G is capped at 14.4 mb's about new Vibrant 4G in this forum we all covered it there. Its just marketing gimmick hence TMO haven't officially updated the Vibrant with 2.2 OTA? You know why? due to Samsung telling them not to as there is no diff between 4G and reg Vibrant lol other than it has AOS2.2 lol man you have to love Samsung they sure thing people are crazy or something.
PS: Folks stick with MT4G is superior than NS.

[Q] Sensation or G2x?

I`m coming from an iPhone so this will be my first android phone. I'm very familiar with jailbreaking so I'm looking forward to rooting my future phone.
I was comparing the specs of these two but I kind of like the screen size of the Sensation, but love the exterior of the G2x. right now I'm leaning towards the G2x but I heard that the interface is fairly bland compared to the HTC and that it has a lot of problems. I'm sure I'll be able to add a theme or skin by rooting, correct? I also heard the HTC has a locked bootloader, whatever that means. I'm guessing that plays a big part in rooting. Any idea which I should get? Also, I was wondering if I do get an HTC would I be able to remove the Sense(the interface)?
G2X. all the way. I came from an iphone as well and was looking for a new UI but if you're looking for a sweet iPhone-ish UI definitely flash MIUI. Great battery life, stability and usability.
You should go with sensation, fancy right out the box. You don't have to root for custom skin or theme. If you are a person, who do not mind some little problem to get the best out of other thing like speed, smoothly, the handling of the hardware on your hands, then go with g2x. If you go with gwx you will need a good amount of time to find out which rom + kernel will be the best for your need, nobody will be sure that rom will be best for you seen some ppl have luck with all different rom. Seen you from iPhone you should try Miui rom 1st, you can dl it here or one from rootzwiki.
sensation is a POS with POS reception. Grip of death issues make wifi weak to unusable. skinny screen makes landscape the only way you can keyboard, but then wifi goes out.
Lots of great ideas put into something with ****ty implementation. My g2x has 2x the reception of my sensation. I'll never buy an HTC phone again.
EDIT: BTW, it got lower reception than our motorola cliq's, by 1-2 bars all the time, but if you picked it up, it lost another bar. Moto cliq would have 3-4 bars at my house, or my dad's house, where the sensation had 1-2, and if you picked it up, it became 0-1 causing dropped calls. Horrid.
What kinds of problems have you guys encountered with the G2x? And is it true that it has more dev support than Sensation?
I don't have a Sensation but I came from Mytouch 4G, which is a great HTC phone and still wish if I could trade my G2X to get the MT4G. I got this G2x as a replacement for my MT4G (insurance) about 2 weeks ago and i went thru 4 times of exchange due to reboot, auto turn off problem. G2X forum doesn't have much dev support (you can always check and compare between forums to see).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278780
Good luck with your choice.
btw, G2X doesn't have build-in LED, which is a big - for me
If u plan on rooting, go with the g2x because it was my first android phone too and it was easier to start of with since it is easier to root. Sensation u can root but it has more steps to it. My phone only rebooted once.

Ohh btw if u use GPSa lot go with the sensation.

Thankds for the info so far.
Is the screen bleed on the G2xs a common problem? What about the dust under the screen of the sensation?
EDIT: And what other androids should I consider other than the SG?

Neither, wait for the S2 or the Amaze aka souped-up Sensation.... or wait for the Prime.

+1 on this.
The G2x is an amazing phone, but it's going to be outdated pretty soon, sadly.
Im trying to get a phone off craigslist for cheap. Found a couple HTCs and G2xs. Doubt there will be an Amaze when its released. Looks great though :O
I have a g2x and a Sensation. The Sensation has a bigger screen, g2x wins hands down everything else.. the Sensation does not even have reception at my house, G2x and even Mytouch 4G have 2 bars, G2x feels twice as fast and the battery lasts longer..
My only small beef is the buttons are in a different order on the G2x and I really love the HTC Sense lock screen and weather Widgets.
But to me the G2x is a better phone..
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Just a warning if you use bluetooth stereo for like your car or headphones, it'll only work on the G2x on roms based off the official 2.3.3 rom. So you won't be able to run CM7 or MIUI without losing bluetooth stereo support.
I love my G2x (mine has no problem), and the recent Gingerbread update seems to have solved issues in most case.
With the Galaxy S II's coming out to major carriers, and the Nexus Prime weeks away... I would wait.
But seems like you need a quick phone now.
I love my G2x. We have working CM7, MIUI, and lots of custom roms. Since the Sensation has been unlocked, I'm sure they are starting to pick up some stuff too.
Most people think the development has been slow, but we have LOTS of roms... the problem is that nothing new has come out to develop. We have the latest CM7 builds based on AOSP 2.3.5, we have the latest MIUI, and we have several stock-based roms. What more can you ask for?
New G2x's come with Gingerbread out of the box so they typically work better then the original outlook (boinked software). My cousin has a new stock GB G2x and has no issues with it (came from an iPhone 4). The Sensation also has/had some pretty major issues out of the box with their touch screen not being responsive and dust under the screen (hardware problems). I don't think you can fix a boinked Sensation with a bad touch screen sensor with custom software.
The G2x can be a beast if you want it to.
