Firmware update - myTouch 4G General

I just got one, but haven't installed...anyone get it and install yet?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

listen whatever you do dont download or install the update yet leave it on the screen asking about the update and contact a dev that can help pull the update then you can GREATLY help the community

Worrrrd. I got the notification right before I left work at tmo. I installed it, however, on one of the demo devices there in the store, and left mine alone for now. In a moment, I'll post some pictures of the differences in software numbers for reference.
Could we use log-cat to find the download link, similar to what was discussed with the fake G2 OTA? and would the update package itself even help?
Edit: Here's the after-image. Haven't made a before one yet.

Dudes I downloaded the update and it installed fine. I didn't even stop to think about it before i downloaded. Does anyone know what the update was for?

Please tell me they added a microphone button in swype! Sucks they left that out ..

I got and installed the update as well. My friend at HTC told me it would come tomorrow but I got it as soon as I got home tonight. The update was just to update the device to the production software in light of tomorrows launch. It's pretty much bug fixes, do far I haven't noticed the double url bar in the browser since installing it.

Ah, makes sense. I was noticing a few quirks like that. Also, I remember the slide champions getting a similar update the day before launch. I'm curious if Visionary still works.. anyone care to try?

I have also noticed a jump in my Quadrant Scores! getting over 1900!!

does the speaker sound any better/louder?
Its amazing HTC already has a software update out when it took Samsung 3+ months.

My speaker was fine to begin with! Better than my nexus ones speaker was.

Getting a logcat of this update is very important! It can give devs a clue on what can be done to get rw access in nand. Run a logcat before you install anything. When you have it post it in the dev section for mt4g and g2.

I might be going crazy, but it feels a little laggy after this update.

So its like a mirror reflective from the back camera to your face? Pretty clever I say.
They haven't release it yet they call it onemoreface, I think they are still in the state of building it maybe a few more months hopefully january and when they finally release it hopefully its compatible with G2. This addon will solved my issues regarding my constant use of video call :happy:excited:

I Hope this will get released soon and for a few different models other then the Nexus One in the picture, I will buy at least two one for my Nexus the other for the HTC Desire Z , but I got a funny feeling that by the time this rolls out it might be to late, within the next six months most smart phones will all have what Nokia has been doing for years, front face cameras, then this gadget will be to late.

It would be too late if in six months everyone ditches their phone for one with an ffc. Ill have my g2 longer than that. And I don't know why it would take 6 months to release two mirrors that mount to the top of your phone. You could ?ake this for yourself right now it looks like.

Its not that odd, as HTC as always been one step ahead of the others, when it comes to updates. It will most likely see 2.3 as well long before we do.

Well the update from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 is a few bug fixes from what I have seen. Like an sms fix for sending out wrong sms to the wrong person, but if going from 2.2 to 2.2.2 then there are alot of extras like BT dialing, better support for exchange accounts, the SMS fix and a few other things I am sure

As for your question yeah it is normal for HTC to be ahead of the rest on updates. To be honest if ATT had the Inspire when I got the Galaxy then I would have gotten it instead as I know the updates are more often and they are easier to mod. Thanks for the SS

That is the one I read about for the update.
I know it would be a fair amount of work and I don't have the moxie to do it, but it would sure be nice to have an objective pro/con list of Froyo, 2.2.2, 2.3, and a few of the top XDA Roms now available. I'm happy that I've gone to the "dark side" but I have to admit that I'm curious about the pros/cons of returning to stock versus all the other alternatives. I really wonder if 2.3 will/would be a significant advance over what we now have available. Any thoughts?
No problem.

2.3 Doesnt have that many new things, but still awesome. I know you can get it through CM7 and other roms, but an official rom will help future ports and increase stability of user created roms, possibly the stability of CM7 on mt4G.
HTC rep told me it was coming end of feb, then saw her again and she told me it was definitely coming middle of march. So while not exactly a lofty goal projecting an entire quarter of a year for a release date, I'll just acknowledge that it's probably coming. someday. definitely maybe.
Sweet! I cant wait for this update!!
It should be in June when the evo 3d comes.

Those of us who are brave enough, have had 2.3 for a while thanks to Cyanogen, etc. I will not wait for HTC, they seem to take their time. Not to mention they still haven't put out 2.2 for the MT3G Slide... Besides this will be the last update from HTC if the buyout goes through. Why support a phone that will be a paperweight in a year or so...

The only reason an official 2.3.3 is good, is for the kernel source and the new lib files for sense and 2.3 that are native to our phone. Makes future ports that much easier.

I know, Ive been using CM7 for a while, but the official 2.3 from HTC is still big news for those who prefer the stock rom. Ill probably go back to stock once the OTA's start rolling out. Also, as stated before, native and official kernels and code will make future ports a lot more easier and stable.

I have an issue with mine, but its when I plug headphones in I have to pull them back out slightly to get sound working in stereo, otherwise it only comes out of one side. Now when connected to a cassette adaptor to play through my car stereo I get a high pitched popping sound occasionally, an issue I did not have with the same adaptor and my HD2 or G2X.

I have the same exact issue. I work for T-Mobile and it's happened to the last four devices I tested the issue on. Sucks..
I've experienced a similar problem as well, when you pull the connector a little to the left (with minimal force) the right ear bud would stop working completely. This happened on two devices which i purchased from a T-mobile store in NYC yesterday. I have a third exchanged model right now, but haven't tried it yet as I don't want to be disappointed . The devices were built on 6/3/11, 6/1/11 and 6/3/11 and originated from Taiwan. Could this be a bad batch or just a design flaw?

I have an AUO screen, Taiwan origin, shipped 6/1/2011. No issue whatsoever, also tried to replicate with battery cover off (seems more vulnerable that way) and nothing. Are you sure your devices were actually made on that day ? The box date is when it was shipped, the manufactured date should be stamped in black on the inside of the back case.

I didn't spend too much time with those devices, I guess it was the shipped date then instead of the built date. You must have been lucky then since all three of my Sensations have had this issue.

I wish I could figure out when mine was built. Since I have an Asian Sensation there is no date on the back sticker under the battery. I also looked on the box and didnt see a date there either.

T-Mobile has confirmed Marshmallow for Note 5

Take this with a grain of salt but the Software Updates page at T-Mobile has been updated and the Note 5 is on there. Now we all knew that it would be updated to Marshmallow but maybe this is a sign that we will see it sooner than later.

When this is released by T-Mobile will i need to un-root to get the OTA update? If so, will there be a root in the works for Android M? I am rooted on 5.1.1 BOH6 with Arter97 Kernel, Xposed and the latest TWRP. Just curious thanks for all the hard work devs.
My reason for asking is probably the same as anyone else. I want the newest OS but I want to keep the tweaks made possible through root such as, modifying the build.prop file to fix the RAM leak, better battery life through titanium back up by freezing apps and adding some features by editing the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db in SQLite Editor
Great, get ready for all the complaining about the update not being fast enough to arrive. Only to be followed up with complaints about how the update made the phone slow and the battery drain.

Yes, if you want to get OTA updates the phone cannot be rooted.
Good luck,
Have a great evening!
You won't have to unroot to update. Not with smart switch on your computer, however it will unroot your phone, and generally when android updates a whole system, root is lost till someone figures it out, when kit Kat first came out root took forever

Funny when I read that I was like wow no matter what forum I am a part of these sad to say but real bad (tried to keep it clean) questions get asked. Come on people do your research before you root. Also how do you expect people to see into the future and answer what will happen down the line

Hi, I'm from the future. What was the user's question? </sarcasm>
Hopefully it can be ported for note 3.

Maybe January or February which is good

Do you ever feel like you don't care either way unless they bring something new and innovative. As long as it works as designed, who cares.

Which makes no sense to me because my Note 4 was fantastic with Lollipop.
tMOBILE is in their testing phase for Marshmellow - it won't be much longer

Wow, that was quick. Tmobile has been pushing updates out pretty fast over the past year, so maybe we'll see it this month.

Edit: I think that's wrong. If you click testing phase it brings the pink line over to testing, if you click completed it brings it all the way over. If you click note 5 under the updates, it shows that it's still under manufacturing development
still shows manufacturer development for me.... hopefully changes.. .the marshmallow leak has been pretty stable, but it occasionally reboots while on calls still.

Not to be an ass, but your not understanding how to use the site, you have the scroll down to your phone then it tells you which stage it's in. What your showing is examples. We're still in manufacturer development

Save your finger until Mid-Late January.
International versions updated by Samsung haven't even gotten it, and historically they get it a month or more before the carriers in the US release theirs.
