Who is picking up a MT4G tomorrow? - myTouch 4G General

I will be at a T-Mobile store tomorrow morning to pick up this phone. Sold my Vibrant on Ebay Sunday, GF did the same. She will go pick hers up after work tomorrow. Pretty excited about the phone, not because I think it's leaps and bounds ahead of the competition but gives me the features I wanted that the Vibrant did not have, ffc (I know you can install one but they are still working out issues and I like native support), led notification, flash, and hopefully it doesnt pick up the exhaust noise of my car so i can actually talk in my car. Ive been using my backup, a sony ericsson K810i for the last couple days and wow, i cant believe I had this phone for 1.5 years, Im on day 3 and am going crazy!

Haha.. I'm still on the G2 but I'm exchanging it for the Mt4g tomorrow as well.. what I'm trying to decide on is red or black?????
Sent from my T-Mobile G2

Red FTW!!! I am currently using my daughters mt3g cause my HD2 took a dump it was mine for 8 months when it first came out (I'm dying on this small of a screen. It's like moving into a studio apartment from a mansion). I had the G2 for 2 weeks but didn't like how thick it was. I'm really excited about this phone. Love the actual buttons on the front, and the ded cam button is a huge plus over my HD2. I will be picking this up in the morning.

I'll be picking one up as well. I returned my vibrant last week in anticipation for it. I'm going to call later today and see if they can sell it early like the G2.

I will be waiting for more user reviews before getting it, like you guys! Also need to play around with it in store. It's gonna be tough for me since I really don't want to part ways with the awesome display on the Vibrant, but since I plan to develop some apps, I gotta get a phone that has almost all the features.
Btw, how much did you guys sell your Vibrant for? Around $300?

Go pick up your Mytouch 4g!
You guys can now go to your local t-mobile store to pickup your mytouch 4g, share your first impressions and un-boxing experience

Did stores get the 'OK' to sell early?

I will never get a phone on launch day again after i did with the Vibrant. I will wait at least 2 weeks to study user reviews and possible price drops. Maybe I'll be able to hold out til black Friday. There's sure to be some great deal by then. Maybe BOGO?

The couple stores i called said they arent selling until tomorrow

Just called a couple tmobile stores and they arent selling them early, but yeah im deciding between red and black and my gf is deciding between plum and black. Im also going to see what sort of price costco gets when they get their inventory, i picked up my vibrant for 250 with no contract from them when it first came out.

+1 ya youbetcha

My local store said no when asked about buying today too.

Just called like 6 stores, none of them were selling it. Great topic man.

I'll be at my local T-Mobile store around 10am to pick it up. Definitely going for the red one.

Torn between phones
So I called tmobile today.. and they told me I could swap my G2 for the MT4G. I Love my G2 but I want a FFC...but.. I'm not sold on the development of this phone. The G2 has tons of recognized developers working on it and I'm havnt seen any of the developers I fallow on twitter even mention the MT4G.. what do you guys think? I'm thinking about getting the white one too what do you guys think? I bought my G2 for $100 so I'm getting this phone for dirt cheap.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

how
how can you swap your G2 for it? Are u inside the remorse period?
I'd say do it if you don't need the keyboard and unless you are like a huge texter, who needs a keyboard?

Obviously if you want the newest updates, more roms, etc, keep the G2. If you like a physical keyboard, keep the G2. I doubt the mt4g will have as much developers as the G2.
For me, the front facing camera is just a novelty. I'm pretty sure it's one of those things where you play around with for a few days at most and never touch again, unless you have a specific reason to need a fcc.
The mt4g aesthetics aren't appealing to me as much as the unibody design with the G2. I am sure the mt4g will have some people working on it if you really want the fcc that much, but for now the G2 seems to be like the better phone, unless you really need the fcc. Then again I never really looked at the specs of the mt4g, but I have not heard that much amazing things about it unlike the G2.
This is just my opinion, I would just go with whichever phone you think suits you better.

mytouch 4g
i just sold my vibrant for 260.00 and i ordered my mt4g today early.

Going to get one tomorrow and keep at least through the remorse period.
If not happy with what I can do with temp root and installing apps, will probably let it go back. After using completely open nexas one, don't know how much I can accept being locked down again.
Also, if the other new features (besides front camera) get old, may decide to stay with the nexus anyway. It gets 3-4 mb/second download on local network, so extra speed has only small utility (as opposed to loosing hot spot tether, etc.) and having to reload everything on each reboot.

Forced to sell :\

Hi guys.
So on friday my car broke down, and is going to need almost £500 worth of work doing to get it up and running again. That, coupled with my daughter's first Christmas coming up, means I'm going to have to sell my Galaxy S. I put her on ebay last night .
I've only had it about 2 months, and it's easily the best phone I've ever had. Gutted to be going back to my crappy iPhone 3G again.
Just wanted to thank-you guys for all the info etc on the site. I found I didn't even need to post many of my own questions as they'd all been answered before.
Thanks again, hopefully il get myself another Android phone sooner rather than later.
Why don't you sell the iCrap?
At the end of the day, you have a kid and I assume you have a wife. So that means you are an adult and there are things that matter more than a cell phone and its features. So like my grandfather always said, "be happy with what you have and be thankful".
On a side note though. If you really want another android phone get on Craigs List and place an ad. Put your IPhone on there FOR TRADE. List the phones you would be interested in trading for mainly and then put, "open to other phone trades, let me know what you have". You should have no problem trading that phone for an HD2, Nexus One or something like that. There are a lot of people out there that hate the IPhone (that will change when these people an get one through their own carriers) but there are still a lot of people that want them also. I've seen hundreds of ads on Craigs List where people are wanting to trade an Android phone for an IPhone. If nothing else, I've sold all of my 3G 8gb IPhones for $250 each without a problem and never took longer than 2 days to sell them on there. $250 is more than enough to get you just about anything Android USED. People get upgrades and then sell the phones without even using them a lot of the time.
Yup, definitely more important things than a phone, hence me selling it. I'd rather be able to fix my car and still give my daughter an awesome first Christmas, which is why there was no real decision to be made. Doesn't mean I'm not sad to have to get rid of my favourite gadget though.
The only real point of this thread was to thank you guys for the work you put in and the help you gave me.
I can't sell the ****ty iPhone cos its pretty screwed up and has a cracked screen - worth very little to anyone.
My Fiance's upgrade is due in March...got my eye on a shiny new android device then if she isn't too fussed .

canceled my gtablet order

I just canceled my order that I placed on woot.com because all this talk about the viewing angles and no market or honeycomb and I really like to have my devices ready fresh out the box so im just gunna wait for the Samsung 10.1 coming in june with its gorgeous display and slim design .I was having that feeling of buyers remorse after I ordered the gtablet lol
Those were the debates I had in my head when I was deciding whether to purchase the woot deal or not. You know what it came down to for me. The cheapest gtab with 16gb internal will be $499. $499-274.99=$224. That's practically 2 Gtabs for the price of one Samsung Galaxy Tab. Plus I will NEVER trust Samsung again when it comes to software. They have screwed me enough times and still are the slowest Android manufacturer at updating software.

I no have any problem with the viewing angles. For me it is ok. And don't expect cheaper tablets unless the unknown brands... The Gtablet is one of the most versatile tablets, you can flash freely almost anything without brick it.
And of course always is gonna be a better deal around the corner, if you wait, but it can keep you waiting for life. I rather prefer live the present.
Just my 0.02 cents
Angles do not bother me at all. In fact, I was traveling this week and the guy next to me kept trying to see what I was doing and I was glad to know that he probably was having trouble.
I have not doubt somebody will figure out how to get Honeycomb on this thing, but right now, I am happy with it as it is with Vegan. My plan is to keep this for a year while HC gets its bugs worked out and the technology drops in price. Then I will buy a new one and give this to my kids who use it over 50% of the time anyways...

I'm about to return my 2nd gtab.
I picked up my first Viewsonic gTab from Tiger Direct in Canada. The battery wouldn't charge right out of the box. I ordered another one and sent the first one back. The second randomly loses power while on battery. I have to tap it in the right spot to get it back up again.
I think the build quality is suspect on these units. I'm going to wait for Xoom/Asus Transformer/Samsung...I have to be patient...I don't want to get sucked in to the iDarkside available in stores now.
If every device worked "out of the box" sites like XDA would not be around. XDA is here to help improve the out of box experience. if you don't do that what's the point of coming here?

if you think buying a samsung product will get you a great out of the box experience you are sadly mistaken. the samsung vibrant was pretty much useless and took forever to get the froyi update necessary to make it run at even reasonable speed. cannot compare apples and oranges - this is a 285 dollar tablet

Yea and I read in the thread somewhere that viewsonic didn't even make the device or something like that. Altough I know it is a great device for the price, I just don't want to settle for less when there's better tablets coming out in a couple of months

Used the screen to your advantage huh lol nice, and yea I get you by christmas the xoom will probably be around 400$ and also lg tablets toshiba tablets and the rest of the bunch
For the price, I'll take the drawbacks. I just need to do a bit of reading to figure out how to tweak it once it arrives. Hopefully some of my experience with the DX will come in handy.
Samsung makes decent hardware (though my sig might suggest otherwise) but their software sucks. Go look at how stressed out the CM guys are trying to get CM on the SGS.
At $280 the gTab is in the toy category. If I paid $400+ I would expect the thing to work flawlessly.
To each his own really, for me the excitement around the gTab is that it is nearly 100% unlocked so tinkering with the thing will be super easy.
Even some of the complaints people have with the device with the newest patches are kids play compared to some of the crap I had to deal with on my SGS in order to make it work the way I wanted.
That ran through my head for about 5 seconds. Then I remembered that I have a Vibrant.
The hardware's fantastic, but the software it shipped with was garbage, and samsung clearly doesn't give a crap about showing the modders any love with releasing source. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone, but it's the combo of Samsung hardware and Team Whiskey software that makes it good.
Personally, I'm avoiding giving Samsung any more money (Android-wise) unless they start acting more like HTC (who mostly does well, I think) or something.

Really if you have a personal preference like this, why even come on to a GTab forum and post something that you know will possibly start a flame war.

Even with Buyers remorse why would you not sell the tablet for more on ebay or craiglist to make some extra cash???

Time to abandon ship?

Meh, prices have been dropping like rocks for the GNex
That's the problem with android phones, there's no residual value.
It's not worth it to buy the flagship phone this early. As a general rule of thumb, I only buy android phones that are a year or older. Or phones that are known to have bad resale values. All 4 of my past android phones I haven't paid more than $180 for new And they aren't exactly low end either
It is possible to find great deals on recent phones as well. You just have to look hard enough.
Includes Cliq $150>>$180 4 months later
3G Slide $180>>$215 6 months later
G2 $180>>$255 8 months later (although I think I undersold this one)
4G Slide $180>> not sold yet
Best part is, the deal I get is so great, that I can sell the phone back about 8-12 months later, and still make money off it to buy a new phone.
Great way to recycle money for phones. Been using the same $200 I started with for the past 3 years. And you get fresh phones all the time Ever since my old Nokia 5800 from 2009
Apple products however retain their value so much better, so they're much easier to flip when you're done with them

I haven't paid for an Android phone, yet. I bought my first smartphone, a T-Mobile DASH, on ebay for $50. I "jailbroke" it and had it running Win6.5 really well. Then, my ex gave me his brand new Moto Cliq (he preferred Blackberry). I kept it about a year, then it started messing up so T-Mobile traded it for a new white MyTouch 3G Slide. I kept it about a year, then decided I wanted the new MyTouch 4G Slide. I talked T-Mobile into giving me one for $50 (have been a good customer for over 8 years). Then I sold the MT3GS on ebay for $165. So, I'm happy with how my phones have been. I would love to get the GNex, but I'll wait.
Depends on what you want out of it. To some, money is immaterial.
I have quite the depth of knowledge to this phone specifically, now, and have for some time.
If i'd waited until now to get it, then i'd just be starting and playing catch up. By purchasing one of these within a few days of launch (truthfully, I had to come back the day after because the store didn't have them in yet) I was able to start learning about it a long time ago.
Someone has to break new ground, and that means picking one up around launch time. For all you that come in late to the game and have roms and how-to's, methods of doing this and that - it has to come from somewhere, and doesn't make itself.
If you want to look at just the $ part of it, and ignore anything else, fine - but don't forget what you get for that investment or the inherent value in being an early adopter.

I think it all depends on your perspective. As somebody who makes a hobby out of learning a phone from the inside out, its an investment that is worth the price of early adoption.
For those who do not intend to study their phones, for whatever reasons, and whom are not likely to ever spend time developing, its better to wait to see if a particular phone will mature in development before buying it. For a user, the real value of a phone lies in its usability, making a phone with ample development much more valuable.
So for a user, a well developed phone comes at a discounted price but is far more valuable than its less developed successors.
P.S. Some might argue that the time you save waiting for cm9 to compile on a shiny new quadcore is well worth the cost of no more than 2 doubleshots!
Talk about prices dropping, ever since HTC announced they're not making keyboard phones anymore, G2 prices have been falling to no end.
You can get one in good condition for <$150 on ebay right now That's one of the biggest drops I've ever seen on a phone. I only sold mine 2 months ago for $255, granted it was in mint condition.
I'm so glad I dumped the phone when it still had value. I knew this would happen. hehe, maybe I might even buy one back, now that its lost all of it value
But definitely keyboard phones are getting rare. Diehard fans should start stockpiling now

[Q] Exchange One-S for galaxy S 3?

I specifically asked the salesman at TMobile about the GS3 because if it was to come out soon, I would wait for it. he said it would not be until fall or winter. I believed him and opted to not wait and got the One-S for my upgrade/2 yr renewal. That was 2 weeks ago. I had an issue with the phone (lock screen would not unlock, Maps was all pixelated, random apps not working..) and got a replacement. I am still not completely satisfied with the phone (maybe I was just used to my previous phone, GalaxyS, but some apps I use on a regular basis do not work the same on the One-S) and now I hear that the GS3 is hitting TMobile in a few weeks. Is there any chance I can call and complain about the issues with my One-S and get the GS3 to replace it when it comes out? I loved my Galaxy S and opted for the One-S instead of the GS2 due to it having ICS, but really want to go o the GS3 if it will be available in a few weeks. Is TMobile going to tell me to screw myself?
the S3 is in stores everywhere from tomorrow here in Italy and Austria. (29.05.12).
Wow... tl;dr
If like phone, keep phone.
If not like phone, don't.
Same here I would love to know this.
Return in the first 14 days, and can't remember if that charges a restocking fee. 30 days for exchange and whatnots. Gs3 coming on June 20 and the day you bought the phone counts as day 1.

When you exchange for a different phone its 50 bucks restocking fee
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
I have not seen anything that proves the SG3 will come to the U.S. before the fall. There are only rumors that it will come in the next few weeks. It still has yet to be approved by the feds... so I'll say the Aug/Sept time frame is reasonable.
As the other members have stated you do have a 14 day return policy (if purchased at a corp T-Mobile location) with a $50 restocking fee. It is highly unlikely that if you are out of your return period that they will replace it with a SG3. I would sell the One if you really want the SG3 after I get an unlock code for it, and pay full retail for the SG3, or I'd add a line and get the SG3 at a discount, toss the line to a family member make a lil profit off of it, or simply pay the 200 etf and say 199.99 off the cost of full retail for the device.
Just my 2 cents.
Noone's mentioned this yet, but I'd be wondering why anyone with a One S would be wanting to switch to the behemoth that is the SGS3.
One of the greatest selling points of this phone besides its speed is its size. It's 4.3 inches, and is PERFECT at this smaller size. OP -- if you get an SGS3, remember that youre getting yourself into a device that has a 4.8 inch screen, and STILL has capacitive buttons. It'll be an absolute giant. One-handed operation will not be possible for most.
Just food for thought....
After having this phoen for a while there is no other phone I would trade this for I had the gs2 and the 4.65 in screen was to big for me and I have big hands. And development for this phone is really starting to boom
sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
I had the same concern and asked but like mentioned above they will charge you for the restocking fee if your over the standard trial period, new customers is 14 days and customers over 5 years get 20 day which is cheap if you ask me if you've been there over that you should get 30 at least.
I'm torn myself and long story short a friend got the One S and now he's looking at ATT for the Note the only way this was going to work was buying in with the Buy-1-Get-1 free deal and selling one to get the money to get the SGS3 when it gets here.
I also put a few (the wife has no clue) bucks aside just in case because that's going to be one hell of a rainy day in the US when it does arrive.

Im pushing for the S3... I love the One S but........
With my provider, Vodafone UK, I cannot get a strong signal in any HTC phone, I had this exact issue with my last phone, The Sensation, I sent it for repair but they couldnt find a fault, I kicked up a fuss and they offered to give me the One S free of charge.
However i have the same issue with this phone, Ive sent that for repair too, Its due back tomorrow so i will see what they say in the notes.
If they find no fault im left with this device that has weak signal, some places it has 0 signal... I refuse to keep it for the next 13.5 months so im gonna push for an S3, Ive never had signal issues with any other phone other than HTC, I know its not HTC at fault either as this is a common issue with Vodafone & HTC devices, I dont know how this is possible but it is..
So it looks like the only other phone, Thats equal / better than the One S is the S3.. So lets see how things go.

Totally hear you. I had this issue on my Galaxy S 2. I actually barely got a discount on my One S because the 3 months I owned the GS2 it simply could not get a decent signal, even compared to my Vibrant. I almost paid the $200 fee and switched carries as it was simply unbareable. Of course my wife's GS2 not as bad as my GS2 but wasn't close to the One S but it just sucks when a phone has awesome specs but fails to do the most important thing well.
If the GS3 build design is anything like the cheap feeling GS2 and GS1 for that matter... count me out.
Yes ! Samsung's biggest failure is Build quality other than that i cannot complain, Except TW, but that would be gone in a flash (pun intended!)
Saying that, Every phone ive had has always had a case on, to add that extra protection, even on the HTC's ive had cases, even tho they are not needed. So i guess a case would hide the cheap plasticky feel...... If it has it of course !

My U11 was stolen, no hope of getting it back. I want another, however...

Sprint no longer carries HTC. If I got one of the unlocked versions, could I get it to work on Sprint? I was really happy with it and don't want a Samsung and not sure about LG.
I'm so angry about having it stolen... all I want are my pictures! Hoping at least some of them were backed up on google...
Thanks!

I literally just purchased a Sprint Sim Unlocked one from this seller last week for $150, and I can only recommend him highly.
Phone was closer to 10/10. It looks brand new. Not even any scratches around the charging port, usually the first place to see wear even if the phone is in a case.
I converted mine to a US Unlocked CID and flashed a US Unlocked RUU to it and am using it on Tmobile, but if you are a sprint customer
you shouldn't need a Sim Unlocked version and can save $30.
I came from an HTC 10 and I am LOVING this phone, btw.
Good luck!!

Thanks guys! Well guess what? It WASN'T stolen! For some reason Find my device was showing it five towns away, but it wasn't. I had searched everywhere for it, and tried calling it to hear it ringing somewhere, but when it rang through one time, then went to voicemail the next, I figured they turned it off and checked FMD. I freaked out and spent 4 hours changing all my passwords, calling my banks, etc. Well, a week later, I was looking under my bed for one of my cats, and there it was! It must have fallen off and bounced all the way under the bed! I looked around the bed but not really under it, never thinking it would go that far. The battery died after the first call to it, which is why it went to voicemail. I'm really pissed at find my device showing erroneous info.

...and to think you coulda been using fingerprint unlock the whole time. It may cause general paranoia, I only recently adaptered it after seeing someone going into multi profiles using different fps.
However it brings a definitive quantity of security in case of just such loss

Oh ya? I have the HTC 10. It's my third one because of the terrible luck I've had with it, and this one is on its way out now. Screen is cracked pretty bad (especially around the finger print reader) and the camera app won't boot up anymore.
I was thinking of getting the LG G7, but I'm hearing some really shady things about LG phones, so I may stick with HTC and hope that I can get some quality time out of it. I think I'll grab one of those phones you got. Seems like a good deal and I really can't be bothered to spend lots of money on a phone these days. I just want something that works and has good sound quality.

I like the U11, and it is reportedly getting a pie update very soon as I see two or three posts in here in a few threads over the last 10 hours reporting Pie update just released for U11.
It takes pretty good pictures and has pretty decent speakers. Not as good pictures as some modern phones.
What I find crazy is that phones in the last year that cost as much as this used but are new (midrange so called phones) have equal hardware specs to this.
I would pass on an HTC U11 and get a new Samsung A70. Porcelain case, Base version 128 GB and 6 RAM, Android updates for 2 more years, flashy new battery, can be found for $275 slightly used.

This would make the most sense for an average user but what I love about HTC phones is their audio capabilities (headphone output and video recording). I'm almost certain that the mid range phones cut back on that stuff, cause 99% of the consumer market doesn't care about that (same way I don't care about self cameras). I think LG is the only other company that cares to put that kind of stuff in their phones, but from what I read about them they're pretty ****ty when it comes to support. So I'm stuck with HTC for the time being.
