I rooted my phone, and installed the latest Cognition ROM build. However, I noticed something after using the phone for about 2 days. The startup animation was not animated; it was static. Then, I went into the browser, and now I see that all animated GIFs are all static. It looks like there is no animation working properly on my phone.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
I was slightly wrong. I checked some forums and found that animated GIFs work in some places, not in others. What does this mean?
Also, the startup Cognition animation does not work. It's static. How can I fix this?
Thanks!

okay, so we all know that the 3d gallery app had some issues when you rotated the screen. it'd get all messed up and stuff cause the resolution of that was for the nexus one's screen(a lot larger than the hero). so i'm assuming that because of that, a lot of people would just rather use HTC's album app(just an assumption)
but, i realized when i was testing out darch's aosp rom(darchdroidv2), the gallery app rotated fine. so i'm just posting it here so anybody who wants it can have it
now, obviously, this isn't my work or anything. i don't know whether or not darch edited the apk to make it rotate right, or whether he got it from somewhere else, but still, the credit goes to him for putting it there. i just found it
attached below.
It's something in the ROM that makes it rotate fine, not the .APK. I've been installing the same .APK in every ROM I've tried and the first one I noticed where rotation works was the new DamageControl. Rotation with this .APK is still messed up in DarchLegend.
yep men is fixed thanks and i running fresh 2.0.1D
Thanks for sharing. This is better than the one I found previous.
So, now that we have a Kernel that supports custom boot animation-THANKS IMNUTS-I am curious about something?
Firs here is a thread XDAholic shared with me-thanks-that has a ton of custom boot animations...all credit of this is not mine-thank JaeKar99 for them
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053250
my question is I realize that boot animation while having Voodoo enabled is a bit choppy. Is it for the custom animations as well? I notice some are choppy and some are not. Can others let me know how its working for them? From what I have read if its choppy due to Voodoo no one knows how to fix it yet.
What about being able to change the boot sound? Its still the stock sound even when I put the custom animation in?
Also, while we had the stock boot animation I like others used the boot animation changer app from the market and applied a new animation. Now while this didnt change the animation it did make the animation smooth. I wonder what it did to smooth it out? Anyone?

the laggy boot animation has something to do with the kernel, a bug perhaps but not necessarily due to lagfix/voodoo. imnuts said if you unzip one of those packages and drop the animation in /system/media or /data/local it should work... the stock droid animation will still be choppy as he doesn't know why or how to fix it but new different ones should work fine, as for the sound file it may need to be removed or replaced
blazing through on my VZ Droid Charge 4G
Adding the bootanimation.zip files work perfectly, at least the few I tried, not choppiness like the standard boot animation
To modify the boot sound, you need to remove/replace the PowerOn.wav in system/etc.
It needs to be named with the capital P and O like above.

+1 does work for me too.. I know changing the boot animation seems like a small issue (I think the original Droid one is cool but it doesn't work right lol) but its nice to have options, THANKS IMNUTS
Only the stock animation is laggy with voodoo kernels. Custom boot animations run just fine.
ok can some one help me. I put new animation in data local, then system media. With no success. So then I deleted the stock one. Which on boot displays nothing, but can still here sound. Just want to change the animation. What does it take?
I got it

Ok, so I finally finished my boot animation and loaded it in with the proper coding and it is very choppy (media or local folder). I tried it with heavily compressed jpgs, and full pngs and it made no difference. It looks as if it is running at half the frame rate (or less). I designed it to run at 15fps (which is what everyone seems to believe the "15" means next to the "480 800" in the desc.txt file). I have no duplicate images to slow it down. Also chaning the number at top (15) to any other value causes the animation not to display.
I don't have a lot of pictures, no more than any other standard boot animation.
I do have a lot of folders though (11). What I discovered is that the second number that most people say doesn't do anything, actually indicates how long a single image, in its respective folder, displays, aka a pause. That comes in very handy in saving space, as you don't have to duplicate the same still image to create a pause.
All individule animations are in their own folders. What I could try is have two folders and manually create the pauses with duplicates, and reduce the resolution to compinsate for the size of the folders. I have a feeling it won't help though.
I'm running the Froyo TW4 version of Eclipse.
Recently I made a couple changes to my charge, and one of them has cause the wallpaper on the home as well as the lockscreen wallpaper to appear super zoomed in. The recent changes that I've made to my phone are, I ran the supercharger V6 script, and I flashed the EP1W modem to my phone..
Anybody have this problem or know about it, and know how I can fix it.. Thanks!
Edit: The live wallpapers however, work after appearing zoomed in like the regular wallpapers, but only for a second, then correcting themselves.
wwwwwtttttttfffffff..
I installed Serendipity VII and now have lost my ability to view animated gifs in the stock browser. They just appear as a static image.
Same thing happens in Dolphin.
Any way to fix it? Searching wasn't helpful.
They dont work in most ROMs I notice.
eg. not working in Mosaic (JVR) or Obsession (JVT), but is working in Effin Eh (KJ3
Maybe the actual Captivate ROMs support it? Im not sure about that but maybe other people can report about this also.
I just tried it in Firefox and Opera and it actually works in those browsers. I'm not a fan of those though, so I'm still looking for a solution to get the stock browser to work

Animated gifs work in the stock browser on CM7... you found the only 2 browsers that use their own rendering engine that support animated gifs. I never got it to work on Samsung based Captivate roms.
I browse reddit on my phone so I come across animated GIFs a lot. I complained about them not working on Froyo. They would work once after reboot and then not at all.
I recall now something about Samsung disabling animated GIF support...they have not worked on any i9000 GB ROM for me.
But maybe its re-enabled since its working in KJ3?
Dolphin plays GIFs once in a while, I've been trying since JF6 (stock), JI6 (AT&T Froyo), JS3 (Froyo), and now JVH-JVS (Gingerbread) and KH3-KJ3 (AT&T Gingerbread). The only one that absolutely didn't play GIFs was stock JF6, since giving up that ROM I've gotten GIFs to work probably once per 20 attempts. Haven't figured out any reasonable causes or conditions for GIFs to play.
I don't know if someone had this issue, but I was just curious if I'm "special".
From time to time, when using the default launcher (GEL), setting the wallpaper doesn't stick.
It's either I get a plain black, it's either some of the default wallpapers are set, or some glitches / graphical glitches appear on the wallpaper.
I tried a few "tricks" (closing the Google search processes, launcher and whatnot) but that doesn't work. At times System.UI closes and everything works afterwards.
Usually a reboot fixes everything.
Was just curious if something is "software" broken, or the pics I use for wallpapers (regular pics downloaded from some threads here) are just doing something fishy.
Using 4.4.1 all stock no root, no unlock, just plain N5.
