[Q] Alternative to Android? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

As I understand it, Android is a phone kernel running over Linux.
Has anyone ever run other phone kernels over Linux?
While I love my phone (XPERIA X10a), I hate Android (I can't believe I long for my WinMo phone!)
My question then is... can my hardware run WinMo or something other than Android? Or is there an alternative to Android that I can use?

I should walk over to your house and kick you in the balls for not searching.
BTW the answer is no.

You need to do some research next time before you open your mouth. Android is based upon a modified version of the Linux kernel. Linux is the kernel, not the other way around. Android is the system on top of the linux kernel. As for running any other OS on your phone, why not just buy another phone made to run a different OS? As evilkorn said, the short answer is no.

lmfao, i love the internet

Some people dont love every aspect of android over everything else in the world. I understand what he wants and its a reasonable thing. And just saying most people cant just run out and buy a new phone whenever they want a different experience.

Which Android Bootloader?

Okay chaps and chappesss I am gearing up for my foray into the Android dual-boot wilderness and trying to get stuff sorted.
Whilst still trying to finalise the Android build I wish to use I wanted to clarify BootLoader.
I know of:
-JMZ (the free v4 one!)
-Exceller
-mkskip's
I know with the JMZ I can also use to install Android on first use.
Do the other 2 do that as well?
Does any one offer an advantage in terms of battery life over the other 2 (in the way they load android relative to extent of WinMo still active underneath - if you get what I mean?)
Any major reasons or other features to suggest one over the other?
I like the idea of having a WinMo button to load into Android as per mksip rather than having to power-off and select on start-up (don't know if Exceller does that as well though )
Any others I should consider instead?
Thanks
this is my favorite one

Could you please tell me why?

Wi-fi Xoom; Is it a "Google Experience" Tablet?

I'm looking to buy one tomorrow but I'd like to know if the updates are coming straight from Google or from Motorola?
I dont want to have the same frustrating experience as with my Milestone so this is definitely a deal breaker for me.
I searched on google and all I found were old january posts speculating about this subject.
Thanks!

i think today google announced..or something that you will have like 18months of updates on all honeycomb +, i guess its a good bet on the xoom. Sorry about my english
It is absolutely a Google Experience tablet. It is the device which Android developers are developing the platform on. The update 3.1 was released by Google today and I'm already running it on my WiFi Xoom.
seeem to be on their website http://www.google.com/phone/detail/motorola-xoom-with-wi-fi with the

Yeah it's the honeycomb tester.. can't get much more google xp than that.
and theres definitely no moto bloat to worry about
US version ONLY. Non-US version will be different story.at least for UK version, They have different firmware and even have some kind of MotoBulr service on it.Also the Android Build number look like totally differnet than vanilla HC.

Some might not be aware of what these are so in its most simplistic definition. An os tan is a fictional booth babe for an os.
Windows, Mac, even linux distros all tend to have what's known as a tan or a girl which normally comes in something usable for some fan art if you maybe have a computer fetish (im not going to judge if transistors are your thing)
Anyway my proposal is simple. Make an os tan and submit it in this thread or just post your idea for what features you think she (or he) should have.
Pile them all up and I will collect all the work safe ones for a popularity tournament to see which one will be the peoples choice.

I've found a few on Shuushuu, but can't post links at the moment as I haven't posted here enough. Also trying to draw my own adaptation~ I'll post it here when it's finished. But it seems to me, there aren't actually many about :/
Sorry for the bump

Lol?! BB10 to run android apps?! What are you talking about?
As a side note, we've had one prototype of the BB10N at work for a few months now (long before even announced) and yes, the keyboard is quite nice, yet BB OS lacks a lot of apps for me.
Look to the beautiful SCREEN TOO
My GOD, i hope they won't patent it!!!!!!!!!!
2. You're well positioned, to have played with it Engineer
Well, buddy of mine develops apps for a living... such as banking apps and stuff... he told me that they could create a BB10 app from an android app by some sort of linux script... not sure if this is entirely true, because he's only a graphic designer, but didn't they plan this functionality a long time ago when they anounced the use of a QNX base for the OS?

I have a Samsung Chromebook with a bad TPM. Can I get Linux to run on this thing or is it bricked?

I've tried all the suggestions about 30 reboots, holding various keys, recovery drives, etc. So I know it's bad for sure. When I came into possession of this device it had some sticky keys so possibly fluid ingress could have fried the TPM but I'm not sure if that's how that works.
My understanding is that the TPM is pretty much designed to prevent people from doing anything to the computer of this sort but figured if anyone would know it would be you guys.
Let me know of any ideas.
Thanks!
What is the model? Some run Chrome OS, some Microsoft Windows.
On computers designed to run Windows OS TPM is a hardware thing, integrated in computer's CPU. You can check it's state running console cmd
Code:
tpm.msc

It's comparable to AVB in Android OS.
If your ChromeBook is based on ChromeOS Linux not only WILL run on your ChromeBook - in fact, it already IS running. ChromeOS is based on Linux - and it's quite easy to “jailbreak” it and access the Linux shell.
