Cyanogen 5.0.8 with a twist - G1 Android Development

First things first, I am not responsible for your device, if you brick it or kill your sd your on your own.
*special thanks toCyanogen for the rom all i did was make some tweaks to it including my own bootanimation, but if you dont like it, its not hard to replace. Pretty much all i did was make a theme for this rom, download if youd like its what im running on my device with the latest radio and spl. Here is a link to the bootanimation, i took a screenshot and animated it to make it look like the screen is glitching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k98_yFOndvM
This does not include the Gapps package so if your interested in giving this a try you will need to grab that package from the cyanogen posts, once again the only credit i am taking is for the few icon changes i made, if you do have issues with the rom let me know but its functioning perfectly fine for me right now.

[ROM-DEV] Android 2.0.1-r5v0.6 (Dead)

Android 2.0.1-r5v0.6
Dead:
==============
After spending some time and looking over this rom and ways to make it work with out any legal issues. The most viable option was to build something like what cynanogen has built. His process takes the proprietary bits (all google apps including sync) and copies them off onto the SD card before doing a update. After the update it copies them back to the newly installed rom. This method basically does a automated backup/restore of your licensed applications. I can't do this for several reasons including that we are supposed to be coming from a 1.5 OS to a 2.0.1, which isn't compatible with the older application set.
Temporarily Offline:
==============
I am sorry to have to do this but we are now having more then just a small handful goofing with this ROM and I need to take this offline while I inspect each of the parts and make sure all licensing is in order since its a bit more then the google Opensource framework. I know that several other ROM creators have not paid much attention to it as I am going to now but I really don't want to upset any IP holders like what happened to Cynanogen a couple months back.
I will put it back up but I want to make sure that I am totally covered and don't have any issues.
version 0.6: download (offline)
==============
-fixed wifi thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593620
-Now starts up with Android stock keyboard. (No longer needs HTC_IME.apk for second keyboard)
A few have asked for this ROM so I thought I would put it up here for anyone that wants to contribute to or take from it.
This ROM is only compatible with the Sprint CDMA HTC Hero. It is not finished and still requires some work but its good enough for my day to day use and I am sure others may find the same potential.
This ROM is vanilla android and what it takes to actually get it running on a CDMA phone. It is built off of this GSM variant. I am going to try and work to remove the google bits so that you can use Cynanogens method of extracting your own and then doing a follow up update to install them. My efforts for this is not to build a better rom but to build a cleaner base that has limited to no proprietary IP.
Credits to all on this forum how have helped or contributed in any way to building the roms that are here. I would point out names but there are to many to name. I am positive that anyone that pays attention to this forum will know who you are. I used many parts of these ROM's and many others on XDA to build this one.
This is my first ROM and was primarily made for myself to help me learn how to create a custom ROM.
Here is the link to my blog where I originally posted about this and a video of it booting.
Here is the Youtube video of it booting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRTh-rXKe-E
*Warning*: Don't attempt to flash this ROM onto anything else unless you know what you are doing! I am not responsible for any device malfunctions or "Bricks".
Notes on Installing:
- Run a Nandroid backup before you do anything.
- Make sure you do a full wipe first. (Sorry )
- Run the update zip found * Version 0.6 *(offline) from the recovery console.
To get the HTC keyboard installed: (Now Optional as of Version 0.6)
- Follow the instructions here.
Things that don't work:
- Gallery some times has issues.
- Camera
- Wired or Wireless Tethering (Now Testing)
- Orientation
- Trackball light
- Trackball click (Rolling and moving are fine)
- (Let me know if something else needs to go here.)
Possible issues that are not repeatable:
- speaker not working on out bound calls? I made 30 test calls to my home phone and was not able to replicate this issue. Needs to be verified (see here)
Awesome! Thanks! disregard my PM lol.. Great timing.

FYI: The first boot takes for ever as it registers all the APKS.
i just get the HTC_IME fource close i installed the one from the site like you said and installed it and i get this

So you installed both the HTC_IME.apk and the Clicker.apk? Did you do a adb push or a adb install?
Try and go into settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Touch Input --> Text Input?
I think its a force of habit with out really thinking to go there and calibrate but just going there may help.
Try that and let me know.
i just flashed it and pushed the keyboard and calibration app through adb and all is well. its working awesome. Thanks!!!

I would do an install or transfer them to your SD card and grab a app like Astro from the market to install them. Don't worry we will get you worked out.

Not able to get a working Keyboard Now I'm stuck in a boot loop. Tried installing through droid explorer.. no go.. tried installing from astro ..no go.. now it loads lockscreen.. dead... reboot..rinse and repeat
removed SDcard.. boots now trying to push.. but where do I push the apk files to?

Thanks, but I really can't take to much credit. Its a "Pick and Pull" from several ROMs. This one actually came from our GSM Brothers and then I used the CDMA tricks in this form to make it work.
I keep watching and playing with the Google Nexus Dumps. I would really like to get one of them up and running.
Based on your posting and replies I assume you are re-using the 2.6.27 kernel like the other roms?

Wow thats allot in a little space.
What I gather is that it originally booted, then after trying to install via droid explorer and then astro it now just dies after the lockscreen.
I am not sure where to start. I would just say to do a full wipe, then a clean install. Then if you have the sdk try the ADB install method as Cynanogen's post talks about.
I am working on trying to get the stock Android keyboard to work. If we can figure out that then we don't have to mess with the HTC one.
ok i got it i just adb pushed them to system/app works great

Yeah, actually some of your work if I remember correctly, thats why its got the same issues. My first goal when I built this for my self was to get past the blasted google bits sync loop. The more I worked into it the more I moved on to the 2.0.1 build with some of your stuff in it.
Your welcome to anything I have learned, its really not my work.

CM6 nightly: Single file ROM with some Kspec [7/22/2010]

Lately I have been using the CM6 nightly builds for the Evo. Baked snacks is still my favorite for a stable/good battery life ROM but I like playing around with this new faster ROM and I thought you might like too as well. Basically this is what Im using and Im sharing it with you guys. I should be updating it about once a day so I should be able to keep up with CM's daily releases.
I started with this thread in the dev section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729367
And the link to the CM nightly builds: http://mirror.kanged.net/cm/nightly/supersonic/
I didnt need to update my radio or anything else.
The nightly build I take and mod as such:
- I add the gapps from CM back to the zip so it becomes a single file update that includes all the google apps. I also remove the 2 apps the gapps pack removes, provision and quicksearchbox
- I remove rommanager
- I edit the update script to remove all the references to backuptool.sh
- I add in the 2.2 boot animation
- I replace the battery icons with my own and a few menu backgrounds with ones I have used in previous Kspec builds
- I add in my media
- Sign the file, share, Problem?
Download:
Based on CM6 cm_supersonic-07222010-134158.zip: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3000044/Kspec_cm_supersonic-07222010-134158.zip
THIS IS A VERY BAD IDEA...
there is a reason CM doesnt include the Gapps in his builds... he has got himself into hot water before with google over it so he no longer puts them in his builds, only provides a link to the official downloads
so taking a direct copy of his work and putting the Gapps in, then releasing it while still calling it his work is a terrible idea man
i would advise removing this link asap
yeah. they are packaged in different zips for a reason.
Pretty scary. http://shipped-roms.com/?p=199
But good lookin out tho.
Menu background
I love the background you used. Is there a way i can get it as a stand alone apk or flashable zip?
Why make an entire rom download, just make a metamorph pack or flashable zip....

First!!
Just flashing now.. will edit this post with my views and constructive criticism
All boots fine and works seemingly well. It has come to my attention that it is are still many G2 remnants such as quick keys in settings and US tmobiles setup page. However something im slightly more interested about is that if you can easily port over a G2 rom could you do the same with a G2 version of CyanogenMod for our DHD's? Feedback would be greatly appreciated on the matter!
Noted bugs:
Quick keys in settings and setup
Bluetooth doesn't activate
No fastboot(could be added?)
Gtalk etc could be removed due to DHD being UK only
Swype doesnt acctually swipe it works as only a standalone qwerty
I will update when i witness more bugs, extensive testing will occur on weekends only ! BTW IT WORKS GREAT + VERY SMOOOTH!!
Works great! It´s very very fast and smoothy...no issues so far...i´m gonna keep an eye in this rom..looking forward new releases!
Kepp going with ur good job!
Excellent work
Possibly my fault but i cant seem to get my bluetooth working ?
im going to try port cyan mod but it seems to be harder than the stock G2 rom for some reason, there are only G2 parts that i cannot remove as they are more embeded than others, this is only a quick port to see how much work needed doing, i will continue to work on it to improve it, if anyone else can confirm bluetooth isnt working and ill look into it

Im happy to hear you are trying to port over CM6 for the DHD and if you need someone to test roms etc PM me and i am willing to help. If you could add lack of fastboot to the bug list as well, however i was under the impression the g2 should have this anyway, or is it a sense only feature?

Confirmed. Cant turn it on.
Good job on this one.
Bluetooth fix
Adwinp seems to have fixed bluetooth in his AOSP build so you could ask him how he managed to get it done, probably the same fix is necessary. Obviously all credit to adwinp for establishing the fix.

PUREGANDROID V0.2 Beta (PURE ANDROID)

Can you post some screenshots?
Screenshots would be ideal.
I will be brave and try
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Screen shots
here they are
The only things that remain from CM7 is the CM setting in settings (need to see how to remove) and the fist widget ( Hint Widget)
Did you compile this yourself from source or just remove some stuff from /system/app.
deleted the CM apps recompiled and replaced Livewallpapers and bootanimation
I am working on removing CM settings from Settings Menu and the CM widget that first comes up.
Also working on GPS.conf to make GPS lock faster for people in North America and other countries will follow

recompiled or rezipped?, big difference. if you changed cm7 (downloaded the source code, made your changes, set up your toolchain, build the rom and kernel, etc), then compiled it your linux info will be in about phone in settings, not cyanogen. what im getting at is if you didnt make changes to the source code before you compiled it in linux, why not just make an update.zip for those already running cm7 as an add on, instead of people wiping and reflashing something that their already running, with only minor changes.
You must wipe to have live wallpapers be changed and have boot animation be changed. I didn't have the time to change the kernel and everything else. This is just a beta to see if people like the idea and want me to continue in the same direction eventually it will
have its own kernel and be more seperated from CM
okey dokey.

I give you credit for trying something like this. I wouldn't know where to start lol
test it out please tell me if you like it
If you can make a O/C kernel that i could build into this Rom that would be great!!!
PS: I like the one for the captivate.
You call this pure android but you're using the ADW launcher like cm7 is. Drop ADW and put the stock gingerbread launcher. Ultimate Droid is based on cm7 but it uses the stock gingerbread launcher and is so much faster and has better battery life than cm7. Take a note from their book, and good luck.
Where can I get the stock launcher I have looked every where on the internet??
Got the stock will be put into V0.3 tomorrow
Im having a problem when I put Launcher2.apk and remove ADWlauncher.apk I get 2 options on the first boot (Setup Launcher, or com.android.provision ) and when I select setup Wizard it bootloops.
@ OP. Now that you have reach to the 11 post limit you can post links. I will also move your thread to the dev section but first you need to change a little bit your first post with more info as many other chefs do it. Can you look up in other rom threads for a more consistent information? Thead naming..info related. Just the basics.
Thanks,

When I was running CM7 I removed ADW and installed the stock launcher via the first link in this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15106-mod-universal-022611-cm7-gb-stock-launcher-cm7-gb-mod-30/
Take a look at what the package does and maybe you'll be able to figure out how to do it.
I don't know if you can help but ever since replacing ADW with Launcher2.apk I get boot loop at the setup screen even when flashing regular cm7

[THEME][GT-P6200][CM9][Batt%]{DP3 ONLY!!}

just an accurate battery & mod for GT-P6200 for CM9 DP3
Flashing this on anything other than DP3 will likely result in bootloop.
Flash .zip in recovery. There shouldn't be a need to wipe anything.
Tried to keep image/size as close to stock as possible.
Enjoy.
Thanks to Aorth and Locerra and everyone who helped to build CM9 for our device!
Edit: Actually this may be possible with theme chooser. I was planning on making a theme chooser theme, but It seems limited/confusing and actually harder than just theming apks. So I will make a standard flashable themed .zip as well as a back to stock flashable .zip.
thanks for sharing~~~
i will have to refrain from theming until we have more of a final build.
please anyone report if this suddendly doesnt work with an alpha/ developer preview, etc.
thanks.
Not working
it did not work tab 6200 just kept on restarting ,
i even tried to place the stock one it also still doing the same thing
any fast solution i dont feel like restoring from back up wich i dont even thing that will do as well thanx for the effort anyways.
probably outdated, I was suspecting things would change.
just try advanced restore and restoring /system only, you should be all set.
This is why Im not going to theme until we have a RC1.
I could try the Tmobile Theme Engine, but it seems like more work and limited as what you can theme, etc.
I may even wait for JellyBean.
I will make a note in OP. Thanks.
I dont understand why CM9 doesnt have a numbered battery icon option?? just the numerical one with slim bar.
IF you're still interested in this MOD, and you have some apk skills, you can use UOT Kitchen and pick any numbered icon batt %. If it cooks successfully, use my icons to replace them. There are other ways to do this, but I would say that would be the easiest.
Peace.
